Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz explains how his songwriting process has changed over the years, and offers insights into some of his songs, from early classics to recent compositions. PART ONE:Paul and Scott discuss judging a book by its cover and their possible status as idiots. PART TWO:Our in-depth conversation with Adam DuritzABOUT ADAM DURITZ:Songwriter Adam Duritz is best known as the lead singer of Counting Crows, which formed in 1991 in the San Francisco Bay area. Their 1993 debut album, August and Everything After, which was produced by T. Bone Burnett, attracted attention for songs such as “Mr. Jones,” “Round Here,” and “Rain King.” The album earned the group two Grammy nominations and was certified seven-times platinum. The double platinum follow-up album, Recovering the Satellites, reached number one and produced the top 10 pop single “A Long December.” Subsequent #1 singles on Billboard's AAA chart include “American Girls” with Sheryl Crow, “She Don't Want Nobody Near,” “Accidentally in Love” from Shrek 2 (which earned them an Academy Award nomination), and “You Can't Count on Me” and “Come Around” from the band's fifth album, Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings. In 2021 Counting Crows reached #2 on the AAA chart with “Elevator Boots” from their EP Butter Miracle, Suite One. Their eighth studio album, Butter Miracle, The Complete Sweets!, will be released this Friday, May 9. You'll hear clips of some of the new songs during our conversation, but to hear others Adam discusses, such as “With Love, From A-Z” and “Boxcars,” you'll have to wait a few days for the new album. In all, the band has sold over 20 million albums and established themselves as vibrant live performers who often put a fresh spin on the recorded versions of their classic songs.

JUPITER, Fla. -- With three weeks of spring training remaining before opening day at Busch Stadium and three weeks to make decisions on the bullpen, three weeks to explore any last-minute trades, three weeks to stir the offense, and three weeks to make that first free-agent move of the offseason, the Best Podcast in Baseball considers camp with a pair of threes. Three up. Three down. Post-Dispatch sports columnist and instant offense for StlToday.com Jeff Gordon joins baseball writer Derrick Goold to discuss three ups of spring (players who have stood out) and three downs (trends of note), and all of that leads to the one major lineup dilemma looming over the team. Manager Oliver Marmol likes to say it will take a larger room to come to a conclusion on some of the defining decisions of March. This is a look at how those talks could go. Gordon joins the podcast from St. Louis, while Goold is in Jupiter covering spring training for the Post-Dispatch's constant Cardinals coverage. The Best Podcast in Baseball, sponsored by Closets by Design of St. Louis, is in its 13th season. It is a production of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, StlToday.com, and Derrick Goold.
Aaron Jacobson begins the hour with news that an ABS will be implemented in some levels of minor eague baseball this season and talks about what rule changes he didn't like at first that he now does.

Don't waste your time and the opportunities that God sends your way because they don't always come around again and if someone tells you to go on line and find the things that you need and God has put it in their heart to pay for it for you don't expect them to do it because you are not interested do it because that opportunity may get lost sometimes we can be lazy and miss out on the blessings that we should have but we will waste our time on doing things that are not that important. When you've had a Dogman encounter or encounters, it's stressful enough. Imagine how much more stressful it would be for you if that Dogman you encountered or the Dogmen you encountered, seemed to know when you've told others about them. Imagine the heightened stress you'd feel if the act of merely talking about them would, consequently, make them more likely to seek you out. Tonight's guest, Tiffany, says that's her situation. She wants to come on the show and share her encounters but is afraid of reprisals on the part of the Dogmen, around where she lives. Of course, we hope they leave her alone, but Tiffany is willing to risk that happening. She wants to be able to share her experiences with you so that you'll know what she's been through. We hope you'll tune in and listen to her share those experiences. Premium memberships are now available! An enduring song that stands out because of the contribution of an unlikely collaborator, and a cover so steeped in genius it'd be hard to imagine the possibility if you didn't hear it with your own ears. Don't Come Around Here No More, originally by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, covered by Rhiannon Giddens, featuring Silk Road Ensemble and Benmont Tensch. Outro music is Texas Hold ‘Em, by Beyonce, which features Rhiannon Giddens on banjo.
Oh this album y'all! There are few things I love more than early 70's soul. The Delfonics, Bobby Womack, The Crusaders, Marvin Gaye. Sooooo much good music! Jalen Ngonda has really leaned into the early 70's sound with his 2023 album Come Around with Me. The title track is gorgeous and the perfect thing to listen to on a summer evening that turns into morning. Once a month, I eagerly share a song that resonates deeply with me. Music has been an unwavering companion in my life, consistently infusing immense joy into my days.My musical taste knows no boundaries; I effortlessly traverse genres like punk, folk, pop, hip hop, and grunge. These songs, whether they carry a touch of melancholy or exude the sweetness of candy, play a vital role in my creative journey. They set the rhythm and tone, whether I'm dreaming big, taking a bird's eye view, or diving into the intricate details.Subscribers to the newsletter receive an exclusive treat—a thoughtfully curated playlist that captures my musical selections throughout the year. Welcome to the Cadillac Jack – My Second Act podcast. At first, Caddy wasn't so sure about Jelly Roll. Was he mocking country music? Was he a serious musician. Well, he's sold now. But first, Donna wants to check in with you guys on how those New Years resolutions are going? We are three weeks into 2024 and she's still rowing away, but how you doing? Also, has anyone seen Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani? Seriously. They used to be hand in hand all the time on social media, but Donna thinks that something is up. Are the on the rocks? And can she please just pull over and give herself up like a lady? No need to take everyone on an adventure through the wood. And lastly, Caddy's has some thoughts on Jelly Roll. At first he wasn't so sure about him, but he has definitely come full circle. Especially after his recent testimony before congress urging the government to take the fentanyl epidemic seriously. Hat's off to you, Jelly Roll. Have you left us a review? If not, we'd really appreciate it. Your support helps others find the podcast.
