If you've been asking, “Is My Child's Behavior Normal?” you're not alone. Knowing when to wait and when to act can feel overwhelming—but it starts with understanding patterns. Dr. Roseann Capanna-Hodge, expert in Regulation First Parenting™, helps you decode dysregulation with clarity and confidence.Worried and constantly Googling, “Is My Child's Behavior Normal?” You're not alone. When big reactions, meltdowns, or mood swings keep showing up, it's hard to know what's a phase—and what needs support. Here's how to read the signs and respond with confidence. Is My Child's Behavior Normal or a Sign of Something More?If you're asking this, it's not coming from curiosity—it's coming from concern. You're seeing patterns: big emotions, tough recoveries, or ups and downs that don't quite sit right. Here's the shift: Stop asking if it's “normal” and start asking what the behavior is telling you about your child's nervous system. Behavior is communication. All kids have big feelings—that's developmentPatterns tell the real story, not one-off momentsYou're not overreacting—you're noticing something importantHow Often Is Too Often for Meltdowns?Frequency matters more than labels.A meltdown once in a while? That's part of growing up. But when struggles happen daily or constantly, it's a sign the nervous system is overloaded.Occasional = expectedFrequent = a signal something needs supportLook for patterns over time, not isolated eventsOne parent shared her child melted down every night after school—it wasn't “bad behavior,” it was overwhelm spilling out.Why Does My Child Overreact to Small Things? If your child explodes over something minor, it's not about the moment—it's about capacity.Big reactions to small triggers = a stressed nervous system.Does the reaction match the situation? Are emotions escalating quickly?Does it feel bigger than it should? When the brain is dysregulated, even tiny stressors feel huge.Want to stay calm when your child pushes every button? Become a Dysregulation Insider VIP and get the FREE Regulation Rescue Kit—your step-by-step guide to stop oppositional behaviors without yelling or giving in. Go to www.drroseann.com/newsletter and grab your kit today. Why Does It Take My Child So Long to Calm Down?Recovery is the piece most parents miss. Some kids bounce back in minutes. Others take hours—or even days. That's not defiance. That's limited regulation capacity.Long recovery = full stress cupKids can't “snap out of it” when overwhelmedRegulation skills are built—not forcedThink of it like this: if the cup is overflowing, adding one drop causes a flood. Why Is My Child Fine at School but Falls Apart at Home? This is more common than you think—and deeply misunderstood.Kids often hold it together in structured environments and release it where they feel safest—you. It's called after-school restraint collapseNot manipulation—it's nervous system depletionSafe environments = emotional releaseExample: Josh looked “fine” at school, but had daily meltdowns at home. His brain used all its energy holding it together—and had nothing left. When Should I Worry About My Child's Behavior? Here's your guide. Look at four key patterns:Frequency – Is it constant?Intensity – Does it feel extreme?Recovery – How long to bounce back?Impact – Is it affecting daily life?If you see increasing intensity, longer recovery, and growing impact, it's time to lean in—not wait it out.

The Healthcare Heist: Why Costs Keep Rising and What We Can Do About It Why does healthcare feel so expensive, complicated, and—at times—frustratingly broken? In this episode of Something More with Chris Boyd, we welcome back Dr. Jordan Grumet to explore his new book, The Healthcare Heist, and unpack the root causes behind rising costs and declining patient experience. Drawing on his background as a physician and financial expert, Dr. Grumet explains how the modern healthcare system has evolved from a community-centered model into one heavily influenced by third-party interests. Insurance companies, pharmaceutical firms, and other stakeholders—many driven by profit rather than patient care—have reshaped incentives in ways that impact both costs and outcomes. The result? Patients and providers often feel caught in a system that doesn't fully serve either of them. Beyond diagnosing the problem, this conversation dives into what meaningful change could look like. From understanding the role we all play as patients, to exploring how storytelling and collective awareness could drive reform, this episode offers a thoughtful and balanced perspective on one of the most pressing issues in our lives today. If healthcare is something you've ever worried about—whether it's affordability, access, or long-term planning—this discussion will challenge your thinking and give you a clearer lens on where we go from here. Estate planning isn't a separate "legal chore" you do once and forget — it's a core part of financial planning that helps your money decisions work the way you intend, both during your lifetime and after. In this episode of Something More with Chris Boyd, Chris Boyd and Russ Ball explain why estate planning belongs in the same conversation as retirement planning, tax strategy, investment design, and risk management. They break down the foundational documents (wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives), but the bigger point is how these tools coordinate with everything else you're doing financially. Your account titling, beneficiary designations, cash flow plan, tax planning, and long-term projections can all be impacted by what your estate documents say — and by whether your plan is properly implemented and kept up to date. The episode also highlights a common gap: people often have an attorney, an investment account, and a tax preparer operating in silos. Chris and Russ discuss why integrated planning helps "connect the dots," so your investments and planning strategies align with your estate goals, family dynamics, and potential tax exposure over time. If you've ever wondered "Do I really need a trust?" or "Is my plan still accurate after life changes?" this conversation reframes estate planning as a practical, living part of your overall financial strategy — designed to reduce confusion, improve outcomes, and support the life you want to live (and the legacy you want to leave). #EstatePlanning #FinancialPlanning #WealthStrategy #TaxStrategy #RetirementPlanning #LegacyPlanning #SomethingMoreWithChrisBoyd
The Tragically Hip On Shuffle - Live Stream: Country DayOne random shuffle lands on the last song on "We Are the Same," and the panel ends up arguing about Bob Rock, Canada Day, and whether Gord wrote a love letter to his producer.Episode Summary On this week's The Tragically Hip On Shuffle live stream, jD and the panel pull 'Country Day', the closing track from 2009's "We Are the Same," and dig into one of the most debated records in the catalogue. The conversation circles the Bob Rock production question first: the smooth backing vocals, the strings, the sense that the band got pushed to the edges of their own album. From there it opens up into three competing readings of the song itself. One hears a straight-up love story. One builds a detailed Indigenous and Canada Day interpretation, rooted in life beside the Alderville First Nation. One reads the whole thing as a coded note from Gord Downie to Bob Rock, threaded through to 'Something More' on "Lustre Parfait." Along the way the group gets into Gord's live vocal in the aired Artpark performance, the band's later run through "Now for Plan A" and "Man Machine Poem," and why a record some fans skip rewards the people who stay. It is a fan-first look at Tragically Hip song meanings, the kind of close listening this community does best. The episode closes with poll results, a spin for next week, and the full version of 'Last of the Unplugged Gems' on the way out.GuestsMike from Haslett, Michigan. A restaurant owner who found The Tragically Hip through a 1996 newspaper clipping his dad mailed him, started at "Day for Night," and has been to 20-plus shows. He hears 'Country Day' as a love song tied to meeting his wife.Jeff from Belleville, Ontario. Lives right beside the Alderville First Nation, which anchors his reading of the song's Indigenous and Canada Day threads. This is his second pass at a track from "We Are the Same" on the show.Greg from Tacoma, Washington. The panel's resident music guy and the one who sourced the live version aired on the episode. Calls "We Are the Same" his least favourite Hip record, then makes the case for why this song still kicks.Resources, Links, and References'Country Day' live, sourced by Greg from Tacoma: Artpark, Lewiston, New York, June 4, 2009. Markets are hitting new highs—but with inflation pressures, AI enthusiasm, and massive IPOs looming, what's really driving the rally? And more importantly, how should investors be thinking about it? In this episode of Something More with Chris Boyd, Chris is joined by Russ Ball and Brian Regan for a wide‑ranging conversation on artificial intelligence, market concentration, and the surge in expected IPO activity from some of the world's largest and most talked‑about companies. They explore how AI‑related earnings—particularly in semiconductors and data infrastructure—are powering recent gains, while other parts of the market lag behind. The discussion goes beyond headlines to examine inflation risks, consumer stress, and the growing "K‑shaped" economy—where financial outcomes look very different depending on where you sit. The team also unpacks what trillion‑dollar IPOs could mean for liquidity, spending, and future market dynamics, including potential ripple effects across housing, inflation, and asset prices. Throughout the episode, the focus remains practical and grounded: understanding what's happening beneath the surface, recognizing both opportunity and risk, and keeping long‑term planning front and center in a rapidly changing environment. #InvestingInsights #MarketTrends #ArtificialIntelligence #FinancialPlanning #WealthManagement #EconomicOutlook

Are you truly a conservative investor, or has your life experience shaped you to think about risk differently? In this episode of Something More with Chris Boyd, Chris sits down with Brian Regan and Russ Ball to talk about how personal experiences influence investing decisions and why two people can look at the exact same opportunity and come away with very different perspectives. Brian reflects on entering the workforce during the financial crisis and how that period shaped a disciplined and cautious mindset while still recognizing the importance of investing for long term growth. The conversation explores the challenge many investors face: Protecting what they've worked hard to build while still pursuing enough growth to support future goals. Chris and Russ also discuss how this balance changes in retirement, when preservation becomes more important but growth still matters in order to keep pace with inflation and longevity. Topics include: • Why volatility is not always a bad thing • The importance of understanding what you own • How diversification and asset allocation help manage risk • Why risk tolerance is personal and often tied to your own experiences and perspective At the center of the conversation is the idea that investing is not one size fits all. The best financial strategy is one that aligns with your goals, your experiences, and your comfort level with uncertainty. #Investing #RiskManagement #BehavioralFinance #StockMarket #WealthBuilding #FinancialPlanning #PortfolioStrategy
Tom Jenkins looked functional from the outside. He held down jobs, travelled the world and kept life moving forward. But underneath, he was trapped in a cycle of binge drinking, gambling, shame, self-destruction and trying to outrun himself. In this brutally honest conversation, Tom talks openly about: blackouts, cocaine and waking up in places he couldn't remember the loneliness and low self-worth driving his behaviour erectile dysfunction, porn and why so many men suffer in silence why “having fun” slowly became a way of escaping himself the moment he realised he couldn't keep living this way But this episode isn't just about addiction. It's about the deeper question underneath it all: What are men really trying to numb, avoid or hide from? Tom also shares how he slowly began rebuilding his life through honesty, changing his environment, self-reflection, healthier habits and eventually exploring psychedelics and ayahuasca in a controlled setting. This is a raw conversation about shame, masculinity, loneliness, self-forgiveness and what recovery actually looks like when you stop pretending everything is fine. You can find Tom's book 'The Drunk Gambler with Erectile Dysfunction: Searching for Something More' on Amazon and through other online retailers. Should you convert to a Roth IRA, or is waiting the better move? In this episode of Something More with Chris Boyd, Chris and Russ Ball take on one of the most common questions in retirement planning and explore why so many investors hesitate when it comes to Roth conversions. Drawing from advanced IRA planning education and real conversations with clients, they break down the concerns that often stop people from taking action. Topics include the fear of paying taxes today, the possibility of higher Medicare premiums, and uncertainty about where future tax rates may be headed. Chris and Russ also look at the opportunities that can make Roth conversions worth considering, especially during the years between retirement and required minimum distributions. The conversation focuses on understanding the numbers, avoiding common misconceptions, and recognizing how delaying a decision can sometimes create larger tax consequences later. Topics include: • Why many investors avoid Roth conversions • How today's tax environment may create planning opportunities • The impact conversions can have on Medicare premiums and future taxes • Why timing matters in retirement income planning • How Roth strategies fit into a broader long term financial plan This episode is not about pushing a one size fits all strategy. It is about helping investors better understand their options so they can make informed decisions based on their goals, income needs, and future tax considerations. #RothIRA #RetirementPlanning #TaxStrategy #Investing #FinancialPlanning #WealthManagement #IRA #MoneyDecisions

Markets are hitting new highs but is the foundation as strong as it seems? In this 19th anniversary episode of Something More with Chris Boyd, Chris is joined by Brian Regan, CFA, for a deep dive into the latest quarterly market insights. While earnings remain impressive especially driven by AI and large-cap growth several underlying risks are beginning to emerge that investors can't afford to ignore. Brian shares why inflation remains a key concern, how geopolitical tensions and energy prices are influencing economic trends, and why the Federal Reserve's next moves may keep interest rates higher for longer. He also highlights lesser-discussed risks gaining traction, including private credit liquidity concerns, shifts in construction employment, and the evolving role of cryptocurrency in consumer behavior. Together, they explore what a "K-shaped" economy really means for investors and why markets can perform well even as large segments of the population struggle. Perhaps most importantly, this conversation focuses on how to respond thoughtfully not react emotionally. Rather than making drastic portfolio moves, Chris and Brian explain the value of making measured, strategic adjustments to navigate uncertainty while staying invested for long-term growth. If you're wondering whether today's strong market performance is sustainable or what warning signs might lie ahead this episode offers timely perspective and practical guidance. #FinancialPlanning #Investing #Markets #WealthManagement #EconomicOutlook #PortfolioStrategy #RetirementPlanning

In this episode of Something More with Chris Boyd, Chris is joined once again by Brian Regan, Senior Portfolio Manager on the AMR Team at Wealth Enhancement, to explore how leadership changes—at major corporations and within the Federal Reserve—can materially influence investment outcomes. The conversation begins with high‑profile leadership transitions, including Apple's succession from Tim Cook, shifts at Berkshire Hathaway, Netflix, Starbucks, and Simon Property Group, and why investors should care not just who leads a company—but how they got there. Chris and Brian unpack what they look for in effective leadership: Founder-led vs. externally hired CEOs Long tenure and institutional knowledge Capital allocation discipline Governance structures that protect shareholders The risks of concentrated control and weak oversight They also discuss: Apple's strategic restraint in AI spending—and why that may be a competitive advantage Governance failures that create "value traps" Why leadership continuity often trumps flashy turnarounds The coming transition at the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell's legacy, and what uncertainty at the Fed could mean for markets Why strong bank earnings are a reassuring economic signal The episode concludes with a candid discussion on financial advisory fees—when advisors do earn their keep, when they don't, and how good advice extends far beyond investment selection into behavioral coaching, planning, tax strategy, and risk management. A thoughtful reminder that people matter behind the balance sheets—and so does the advice you rely on.
We're now two months into the conflict involving Iran—so what does it really mean for markets and your portfolio? In this episode of Something More with Chris Boyd, Chris is joined by Brian Regan, Senior Portfolio Manager on the AMR Team at Wealth Enhancement, for a timely and grounded conversation about geopolitics, market volatility, and long‑term investing discipline. The discussion revisits the market's initial reaction when the conflict began in late February, the sharp but short-lived selloff, and the subsequent rally back toward all‑time highs. Chris and Brian explain why markets often recover faster than headlines suggest—and why investors who remain disciplined are often rewarded. They also explore: Why the Strait of Hormuz matters so much to global energy markets How oil price spikes ripple through inflation, interest rates, and portfolios Which sectors have shown resilience during the conflict Why earnings expectations—not fear—ultimately drive markets How yield curve shifts impact gold, banks, housing, and private credit What could happen if the ceasefire holds—or breaks down Most importantly, this episode reinforces a timeless investing lesson: Short‑term geopolitical events are rarely a reason to abandon a sound long‑term plan. If global uncertainty has you questioning your portfolio, this conversation offers perspective, context, and calm.

In this episode of Something More with Chris Boyd, Chris and Brian dive into two of the biggest areas where families unintentionally sabotage their financial success: retirement savings missteps and education planning mistakes. Brian discusses patterns he's seen after reviewing hundreds of 401(k) plans — especially the surprising frequency of investors mixing target-date funds with additional stock funds, inadvertently doubling their risk. Chris and Brian explain how target-date funds are designed, why adding extra funds defeats the purpose, and how investors often fall into the trap of chasing performance or comparing themselves unfairly to the S&P 500. The conversation also unpacks: Why the S&P 500 is not an appropriate benchmark for most people How risk tolerance, time horizon, and personal financial stability should determine allocation Why short-term performance viewing leads to emotional decisions The "illusion of diversification" when holding many similar stock funds How to properly evaluate whether your portfolio risk matches your goals The importance of focusing on time in the market, not timing the market Then the episode turns to education planning mistakes — an increasingly urgent topic as college costs continue skyrocketing. Chris and Brian cover: Why early and consistent saving matters most Why 529 plans remain the best savings vehicle for education How the new Trump savings accounts fit in (and don't) How costs differ dramatically between public vs. private education Why parents often damage their own retirement security trying to pay for college The importance of setting expectations with children early Brian's personal system for projecting education costs to 2044 Why lifestyle decisions (cars, home choices, spending patterns) impact your ability to fund education Finally, the discussion closes with a thoughtful segment on whether buying a home is always the right move, especially for Millennials and Gen Z. Chris and Brian outline why today's high prices and high mortgage rates reduce affordability — and why renting may sometimes make more financial sense until conditions improve. Why panic selling backfires — and how proper planning prevents emotional mistakes. In this episode of Something More with Chris Boyd, Chris and Brian Regan tackle a timeless question: Why do investors feel the urge to sell when markets decline? They explore the psychology behind market fear, why this instinct is often counterproductive, and how disciplined planning helps investors avoid costly emotional decisions. From there, the conversation moves into today's market environment — including the global tensions, oil price changes, sector‑specific volatility, and what these disruptions mean (and don't mean) for long‑term investors. A major focus in this episode is private credit; an area Brian has been warning about since early 2025. He outlines why the surge in private credit inflows, liquidity mismatches, rising default rates, and cross‑ownership structures between private equity and private credit funds are creating instability beneath the surface. While not a 2008‑style crisis, Brian explains why investors — especially those unknowingly exposed — should pay attention. #MarketVolatility #InvestorBehavior #FinancialPlanning #WealthManagement #PrivateCredit #SomethingMoreWithChrisBoyd

Have you ever done everything right — and still felt something unresolved living in your body? Maybe it's not a dramatic story. Maybe it's just a moment you can't stop replaying. A decision you can't forgive yourself for. A version of you that acted against your own values — and your nervous system never got the memo that it's over. That's what this episode is about. Gregg Ward accidentally took someone's life at 18. For 46 years, it lived in his body — flushed skin, tense shoulders, a loop that no amount of success, service, or self-improvement could stop. In this conversation with Dr. Aimie, he shares what moral injury actually is, why the body keeps reliving a story with no ending, and how movement became his nervous system's path through what therapy alone couldn't reach. This is not a story about grief resolved. It's a story about grief metabolized. And the moment the burden finally lifted — not when the pain disappeared, but when the purpose stopped being about him. If something in you has never fully quieted — no matter how much work you've done — this conversation was made for you. Hello to you listening in Jakarta, Indonesia!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. As the old ones say, “If we are not grateful for what we have in this present moment, what makes us think we will be happy with more?” Maybe it's true and maybe it isn't but long ago and far away there lived a man in a small country village. He had everything he had ever asked for: friends, livelihood, wife, family - and yet and yet something was stirring in him: Looking around he asked himself, Is this all there is? Perhaps I am meant for something more, something better. Perhaps I should go and seek my happiness outside the village. One summer morning he left his home, carefully closed the garden gate behind him and walked away. He walked for miles and miles until he could no longer see where he had been. Night fell and he found himself deep in a dark forest. Having no other shelter he took off his shoes, spread his coat on the ground, and fell asleep against the trunk of a tree for he was very tired.Watching him sleep his angel shook her head at the folly of his adventure. But what could she do? She could turn his shoes around facing them back in the direction from which he came. And so she did. When the man awoke he pulled on his coat, put his feet into his shoes and began to walk. After many miles of walking the man began to see familiar fields, a few farmhouses, a village - all looking very much like what he had left; but how could that be? People in the village market greeted him as if he was familiar to them; but how could that be? Arriving at a cottage with a garden gate he was startled to be greeted by children and a woman as if he were their long lost father and husband; but how could that be? They welcomed him inside, took off his shoes, sat him at a table very much like one he knew, fed him food that tasted like home; but how could that be?To this very day the man lives with that family in that home in that village and wonders, “If this isn't happiness, what is?” As the old ones say, “If we are not grateful for what we have in this present moment, what makes us think we will be happy with more?” You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!"
