The awards recognized their heroic responses to five major incidents. Notable awards included Unit Citations for teams handling a mass-casualty incident, a critical motor vehicle accident, premature labor complications, a traumatic injury case, and a house fire rescue. Fire Chief Eddie Robinson praised their dedication and invited Fire Chaplain David Price to lead a prayer for those facing personal challenges. The awards program, launched last year, celebrates outstanding contributions to public safety. STORY 2: Cherokee Schools Names Student Advisor and School Board Delegates The Cherokee County School Board has recognized its new student delegates for the upcoming year. This program, which began in 1999, includes high school seniors who provide input to the board and superintendent. This year, the program has expanded to include a delegate from i-Grad Virtual Academy. The student advisor is Samantha Stahler of Etowah High School. Other delegates are Will Rusbridge (Cherokee High), Andrew Hammond (Creekview High), Alex Johnson (i-Grad Virtual Academy), Lavanya Shankar (River Ridge High), Zahira Ambriz-Villela (Sequoyah High), and Sophia Foisy (Woodstock High). They will attend board meetings, offering insights on various issues, and the program has received the Georgia School Boards Association's Leading Edge Award. STORY 3: New 55+ Neighborhood Opening Soon in Towne Lake Community David Weekley Homes is launching a new 55+ community, Maple Grove at Towne Lake, in Towne Lake. The developer will host drive-in preview events on August 24 for registered VIPs to explore the neighborhood, learn about floor plans, and discover amenities. The gated community will feature a clubhouse, pool, pickleball courts, community garden, and walking trail. The model home will open to VIPs on September 15, with contract appointments starting on September 21. The community will be open to the public soon after. The Chiefs, who finished 8-4 last season and made it to Round 2 of the Class AAAAAA tournament, are now in a new region and classification. Coach James Teter feels his team, led by returning quarterback Kolby Martin, running back Will Rajecki, and two-way star Ean Marria, is ready but acknowledges the need to refine their game plan. Denmark, coached by Mike Palmieri, has a strong track record and poses a tough challenge. Sequoyah must maintain focus and adapt to key player losses, including top receiver Jackson Hancock. The season's success hinges on their ability to adjust and perform under pressure. STORY 5:   Tacobar Taqueria Opening in Holly Springs Tacobar Taqueria, a new taco restaurant by Woodstock resident Jovito Garcia, is set to open this week along Highway 140 in Holly Springs, replacing the recently closed Cactus Cantina. Garcia revamped the space to offer a unique menu of authentic street tacos, wings, nachos, and burritos, along with breakfast options. The restaurant features a larger bar, more TVs for sports, and both indoor and outdoor seating. Garcia aims to provide a fresh experience with simpler, high-quality food and a focus on community engagement. Casey Stengel sure was right about the Mets picking Hobie Landrith at the start of their expansion draft, that without a catcher, you have a lot of passed balls… but in the era he grew up in, it didn't seem to matter.The active leader in passed balls, Yasmani Grandal, has 92. There were seven seasons in the 19th century where that wouldn't have led the league, from Rudy Kemmier's record 114 in 1883 to Doc Bushong's 95 in 1881.Only one post-integration player is even in the top 50 all time for passed balls, and it's eight-time All-Star Lance Parrish, who had 192 of ‘em from 1977-95 with the Tigers, Phillies, Angels, Mariners, Cleveland, Pirates, and Blue Jays.In 600 major league games this year, there's been a total of 31 passed balls. In segment two Tom discusses getting signed and heading off to the minors for the Braves. It was culture shock for him. First time being away from home and it wasn't college but professional baseball and it was his job. Mark Lemke was his roommate in Bradenton, Florida and it was an eye opener for him being a professional athlete. Lot's of adjustments and huge learning curve. He had to learn new pitching mechanics and how to throw certain pitches. The work load was different in learning all these new things. One big thing was the "grind" as it were being a baseball player in the minors. Had to learn to keep busy between starts as he was not an everyday player. Had to learn focus on his job. As we continue with Tom talking minor leagues he highlights his call up to the Braves on August 17, 1987. He was in Toledo and had lost a game and his manager called him to tell him he was called up by the Braves and headed to Houston to meet up with the team. Great story of how he was getting ready for his first start in the majors. All the emotions he was feeling at the time. As he was with the Braves he had a turning point with manager Russ Nixon. Tom had been struggling a bit and he was called into the office in Wrigley Field by Russ. He told him they believed in him and he was there because there was no one in the minors who take his place, so figure out what you have to do to be successful here in the "Majors". One thing Tom highlights is in the majors you are going to have about 35 starts. 1/3 of time your are going to be on, 1/3 your going to be terrible. 1/3 your in the middle, that is where you have to figure things out and how to win those games.  Tom also, highlights how he and Greg Maddox, Steve Avery, and John Smoltz would talk pitching all the time. How to set guys up. Certain pitches to throw. What is working and not working. One guy early in his career who was great for him was Ted Simmons. He was Tom's catcher and used to talk him about all different things in between innings. It is a great listen into what is going on during a season and games.

At the end of the first decade of the 1400s, everything seemed to be going peachy for John the Fearless, the Duke of Burgundy. He had resisted a large rebellion and maintained his centralising influence over most of the low-countries as well as nurtured and made official the alliance his father had created with the other major powerbase in the low countries, the Count of Holland. By the end of the second decade of the 1400s, however, fate, in the forms of an English army with long-bows, a mad dog, and a treacherous bridge, would intervene and John would be dead. With their departure from the scene, the fate of the low countries would once again be thrown into the realms of uncertainty.
