The River Ridge girls basketball team got its revenge on the ultimate stage, winning the Class AAAAAA state championship 68-50 over Lovejoy on Friday night at the Macon Coliseum. It is the first team state championship for River Ridge in any sport, and the Knights are the first girls basketball champion from Cherokee County since Etowah in 2005. River Ridge played with a chip on its shoulders, going up against a Lovejoy team that knocked the Knights out in the quarterfinals last year. This was the matchup the Knights wanted, and they pulled away late for the history-making 18-point win. Mataya Gayle took over in her final opportunity at River Ridge, scoring a game-high 25 points, surpassing 2,000 points for her career, while picking up nine rebounds and five assists. Behind Gayle, two sophomores had major contributions. Kayla Cleaveland scored 15 points despite fouling out in the fourth quarter, while Sophia Pearl finished with 11 points and five steals. River Ridge limited Lovejoy's talented guard duo of Bryanna Preston and La'nya Foster to 29 combined points. Foster's 16 points led the way, while Preston was forced to the bench after picking up her fourth foul with 2:30 left in the first half. Cherokee's run came to an end Saturday night, with the Warriors falling 78-58 to Wheeler in the Class AAAAAAA state championship game in Macon. It was nothing like the last time these two teams met. Cherokee was within striking distance for much of the game and trailed by just nine points in the third quarter. Wheeler's size and athleticism ultimately helped it pull away late, but the Warriors were anything but an easy out. Saturday marked the Warriors' first trip to the state title game since 1982, behind the late Tony Ingle, the future coach at Kennesaw State and a Cherokee County Sports Hall of Fame honoree. Wheeler's win gave the program its ninth state championship all-time and third in the last four seasons. It was the fourth time Cherokee had seen Wheeler during the 2022-23 season, and after falling 94-41 in the Region 5AAAAAAA championship, the Warriors played like they had something to prove. Saturday marked the end of just Coach Joe Veihman's second season at Cherokee since taking over for longtime coach Roger Kvam. He led the Warriors to a 41-17 record, and now, a Class AAAAAAA runner-up trophy. A former Holly Springs educator has been sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to child sexual abuse during his time as a teacher at a private school. Robert Vandel, 65, of Canton was sentenced Thursday to eight years in prison followed by 12 years on probation after pleading guilty to child sexual abuse crimes while he was teaching science at Lyndon Academy in Holly Springs. This sentence will run concurrently with a 10-year prison sentence Vandel is serving in Fulton County. Vandel pled guilty to his Fulton County charges in May 2022, admitting to rape, aggravated child molestation, false imprisonment, and child molestation while he was a science teacher at Fulton Academy of Science and Technology Charter School in Roswell. He was sentenced to 10 years to serve in prison followed by life on probation with sex offender special conditions. In September 2021, Vandel was arrested at Lyndon Academy by Roswell Police on charges that he sexually assaulted one of his students at Fulton Academy of Science and Technology Charter School. He was charged in Roswell with rape, aggravated assault with intent to rape a child under 14, aggravated child molestation, sexual assault by persons in supervisory authority, enticing a child for indecent purposes, and false imprisonment of a child under 14. After his arrest, Vandel was terminated from his teaching position. Since he was teaching in Holly Springs, Holly Springs Police Department initiated a separate investigation. A forensic interview showed that Vandel had been showing the child favoritism and giving her answers to test questions, before engaging in criminal acts, prosecutors said. In a negotiated guilty plea, Vandel admitted to intentionally making physical contact with intimate parts of the child's body, including pressing the front of his body against the child and smacking her buttocks with a ruler, prosecutors reported. In an impact statement, the victim said she has had sleepless nights, and they have felt betrayed and afraid, waiting for justice, prosecutors said. Lyndon Academy Headmaster Linda Murdock declined to comment on the civil case Friday due to the case being open. Records on the Georgia Professional Standards Commission website show that Vandel's teaching certification was revoked in October 2020. The commission had suspended his license in 2006. Last year, Murdock told WSB-TV that when Lyndon Academy hired Vandel two years earlier, the alleged sexual assault in Roswell had not yet been reported to authorities, and he passed a background check that included the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, social media checks, references, and recommendations. A 37-year-old woman from Woodstock has been arrested after authorities say she had a sexual relationship with a minor starting when he was 15 years old. Brittany Stetson is charged with child molestation, aggravated child molestion, sexual assault by teacher, according to her arrest warrant filed by Holly Springs Police Department. In the warrant, police say that in February 2021 Stetson initiated a sexual relationship with a boy who was 15 at the time, which continued for over a year. The woman is a former substitute teacher at Cherokee County schools, including the high school the teen attended. A representative of the Cherokee County School District said that the alleged sexual misconduct was not connected to Stetson's work as a substitute teacher, and she is no longer employed by the district. Stetson was arrested March 7 and booked into the Cherokee County jail. As of March 10, she remained there without bond, according to the Cherokee Sheriff's Office. A team of students from Etowah High School recently won first place in a statewide career skills competition for their public service announcement on mental health awareness. They are part of their school's HOSA chapter, advised by Career Pathway healthcare science teachers Megan King and Amber Thayer. The PSA is currently available on You Tube. The team will compete nationally this summer at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas. The Cherokee County school board and superintendent will recognize the team at an upcoming school board meeting. Trailing by two points with two minutes to go, Braylin Giddens tied the game with a layup through traffic. Tayden Owens connected on a 3-pointer with one minute to go, giving Cherokee the lead, and Cameron Pope drained two clutch free-throws with 20 seconds left to seal the win. Dastin Hart finished as Cherokee's leading scorer with 22 points and hauled in 12 rebounds for a double-double. Pope had 15 points, Giddens scored 11 points and Owens finished with 10 points. Lawrence Sanford added eight points off the bench. Hart was key in his second game back from an injury suffered in the region championship game. He played well in the 73-58 win over Berkmar, but he returned to his typical dominant self on Wednesday night. Cherokee will take on Norcross on Saturday at Georgia State University, the team that knocked it out of the playoffs last season. Freedom 20 Brewery, LLC is applying to rezone of a little over five acres at 11058 Cumming Highway, near Domino's Pizza, from estate residential to general commercial. The business is also requesting a special use permit for a brewery with office, retail and restaurant space within the area. In a separate application, Countryside Ventures, LLC is seeking to rezone 16.76 acres from agriculture single family residential to general commercial at 14045 Cumming Highway, near Hopewell Road. The applicant is also requesting a special use permit to build a 6,400 square feet of special event facility. If approved by the county, the 117-seat facility would be called Countryside Ventures. After a tight first quarter between River Ridge and Blessed Trinity, the Knights made a change to their defensive approach and took off from there in Friday night's 65-47 second-round Class AAAAAA playoff win. The score was knotted at 11-11 through the first eight minutes, with River Ridge coming out in a press. The Titans were able to break it, though, and with their potent guard play, quickly move down the court and score. River Ridge changed its approach in the second quarter and outscored Blessed Trinity 16-2 going into halftime. River Ridge will face off against Marist in the Elite 8 after the War Eagles jumped on Tift County 61-37. Marist beat Blessed Trinity 49-34 earlier this season. In other girls' playoff action, Sequoyah pulled off the rare feat of sweeping a non-region foe in three games when they beat North Forsyth on Friday. Sequoyah jumped out to a 10-0 lead after bringing defensive pressure, forcing turnovers and scoring in those transition opportunities. The Chiefs took care of the ball on their end and knocked down shots. Sayler Davies hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first half, and Addison Ghorley connected on another. With the raucous Raiders' crowd, Sequoyah had to nullify its impact. After falling to Woodstock in the Region 6AAAAAA championship, Sequoyah has now won three straight games, with the last two coming by double digits. The Chiefs will meet Brunswick in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night. The Pirates defeated Woodward Academy in Round 2. With a hobbled Dastin Hart and a substantial size disadvantage, Cherokee's defense rose to the challenge in Saturday's 73-58 home playoff win over Berkmar, sending the Warriors to the Class AAAAAA Elite 8. Cherokee's shooters caught fire early, with Tayden Owens connecting on two straight 3-pointers to start the night. Berkmar went to Mekhi Ragland early in the paint, but the Warriors defended him well throughout the night and denied easy entry passes. Owens was the game's leading scorer with 26 points, followed closely by his backcourt running mate Cameron Pope, who finished at 22 points. Lawrence Sanford pitched in 15 points off the bench. Cherokee moves on to face Carrollton in Round 2, which defeated Parkview 58-56 on Saturday. Top of Form In other boys' basketball action, Etowah coach Jason Dasinger said the first half of Saturday night's high school basketball playoff game was on him. He let the players take over the second half, and that propelled to a 59-42 victory over Pope in the second round of the Class AAAAAA tournament. Aiden Weaver led a trio of Eagles players in double-digits with 16 points. Mason Etter and Brandon Rechsteiner added 15 points apiece. Sixth-ranked Etowah (21-8) moves on to the quarterfinals and will play at No. 2 St. Pius X on Wednesday in Chamblee. St. Pius X beat Lakeside-Evans 62-57 on Saturday. The Magistrate Court of Cherokee County has received a Judicial Excellence Award for Clearance Rate Excellence. The magistrate court received the award Jan. 25 for the 2021 calendar year, the court announced. This marks the fourth year the Cherokee County Magistrate Court has earned the award. The award is presented annually by the Administrative Office of the Courts' Standing Committee on Judicial Workload Assessment to the top 10% of counties in terms of clearance rate (16 counties out of 159). A clearance rate of 100% or greater demonstrates that the court is keeping up with its caseload. Deputy Clerk Elaine Ellis added that “it is truly amazing to see what can be accomplished when a team works together to achieve a common goal.” A former Woodstock High School teacher will serve three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to touching and groping six underage high school students, the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office announced. Ryan Parker McKendrick, 40, entered a negotiated guilty plea to nine counts of sexual assault of a student Feb. 9. Senior Judge C.J. Gober Jr. sentenced McKendrick to 20 years, with the first three years to serve in prison and the rest on probation. Upon probation, he will be under sex offender special conditions, and is forbidden to have contact with the victims or minors under the age of 18. In September 2018, administrators at the school became aware of a text conversation involving McKendrick and two female students that led to an investigation. McKendrick had been the school's chorus teacher since 2007. Investigators with Cherokee County School Police and Cherokee Sheriff's Office determined that many students had experienced similar behavior from McKendrick, prosecutors said. Eight of the victims delivered impact statements at the plea hearing, describing the abuse as traumatizing and a betrayal of trust, according to the district attorney's office. They said they continue to feel self-doubt and insecurity, and they struggle to trust anyone, especially those in positions of authority. Victims said they were relieved that the defendant admitted to the charges by pleading guilty. Holly Springs residents will soon see new playground equipment, as well as a dog park when visiting Barrett Park later this year. The Holly Springs City Council unanimously approved a $16,323 professional design service fee for improvements to Barrett Park Thursday to BM&K Inc. Another design service fee for $12,123 to the same company was approved for maintenance to the Barrett Springs detention pond. Improvements to the park include replacing the current playground equipment with new equipment, as well as replacing the basketball goal and improving the court. The city also plans to add an off-leash dog park, closed in with a chain length fence and connected to water to accommodate canine watering stations. The off-leash dog park will be inside the park on the west side of the gazebo, Holly Springs City Manager Rob Logan said Friday. The project also includes installing drains at the playground and refreshing the site with play-safe mulch, constructing a closed stormwater system from the east boundary of the park to the creek, and resurfacing and striping the parking lot along with the entrance road. BM&K will provide demo plans, a grading plan, drainage design, utility sheet and erosion control, according to city documents. Visitors of all ages are invited to play different games throughout the day, and there will be kid-specific games in the youth activity room. There will be a craft market, Breath of the Wild scavenger hunt, a fan art display and more. The last event, hosted by the Woodstock Public Library, is a cryptids program. The itinerary includes activities begin at 10:30 a.m. and include age-group crafting hours, X-Files trivia, a Pet Semetary stuffed animal craft, ectoplasm slime making and more. Etowah's Rechsteiner and River Ridge's Gayle led their respective squads to No. 1 seeds heading into next week's region tournament. The Eagles are 11-1 in Region 6AAAAAA play, while the Knights went undefeated in the region for the second straight year. Eight honorees came from River Ridge, including five from the girls team alone — Gayle, first-teamer Sophia Pearl, second-teamer Kayla Cleaveland and honorable mentions Allie Sweet and Makayla Roberson. Through 25 games, Gayle leads River Ridge with 17.1 points per game, adding 5.8 assists and 4.6 rebounds on average. Mason Etter joined Rechsteiner as first-teamers, while Chase Clemmons and Dimitri Angelakos were named to the second team. Rechsteiner and the Eagles had an especially strong January. Four nonprofit organizations in metro Atlanta have received donations from Delta Community Credit Union toward their respective mission to support local youth education. The credit union invested $35,000 in the educational services organizations Wednesday, kicking off the 10th year of its “Philanthropic Fund” awards. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta was awarded $10,000 to support its “Big Futures” curriculum, which emphasizes college and career exploration for students in grades 8 through 12. The organization, which offers one-to-one mentoring relationships for area youth, serves families in 12 metro Atlanta counties including Cherokee County. Another $10,000 was awarded to Communities in Schools of Atlanta, a dropout prevention organization that partners with 63 schools in economically challenged areas across Atlanta Public Schools, as well as Clayton County, DeKalb County, and Fulton County Public Schools. The grant will help provide wraparound services and intensive case management to nearly 2,800 students and support the organization's College and Career Readiness Program. Breakthrough Atlanta also received $10,000 to support its Vox Teen Voices program, which offers free afterschool and summer workshops for Atlanta teens. Mental Fitness 21st Century Learning received $5,000 to support its STEAM Academy, which allows many students who lack access to quality, affordable afterschool programs to participate in a STEAM curriculum that includes drones and robotics. Cherokee County and four of its cities have received a federal grant for the creation of a transportation safety plan to improve pedestrian safety. Cherokee County, Canton, Holly Springs, Woodstock and Ball Ground were awarded a $450,000 action plan grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All program on Feb. 1. The grant was part of $800 million in awards for 510 projects through the first round of funding for the program, which provides funding for regional and local jurisdictions to develop a transportation safety action plan aimed at improving road designs to better sidewalks and crosswalks to prevent deaths and serious injuries on the nation's roadways. Day told the Tribune Friday that the public can expect to see the plan in 2024. The next steps are to complete grant award agreements and procure a consultant to complete the study. The study will likely begin later this year, he said. The plan will determine what projects and countermeasures are needed to improve the safety of the county's transportation system, Day said. With this plan and list of projects, the county and the cities can then set forth a strategy and timeline to complete the projects. Day added that the plan will likely make recommendations on intersection, signalization and pedestrian facilities improvements, among other possibilities. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services promoted two firefighters Thursday night at the Cherokee County Fire Training Complex. Fire Apparatus Operator Justin Martin was promoted to the rank of sergeant and Sgt. Nicholas Spain was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. The two were surrounded by family, friends, and fellow firefighters at the event as they were recognized and celebrated for this accomplishment. Fire Chief Eddie Robinson pinned the promoted firefighters with their new-collar insignia. Badges were pinned on the firefighters by family members. #CherokeeCounty #Georgia #LocalNews           -          -          -          -          -          -          The Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast is local news for Woodstock, Canton, and all of Cherokee County. Register Here for your essential digital news.             This podcast was produced and published for the Cherokee Tribune-Ledger and TribuneLedgerNews.com by BG Ad Group     For more information be sure to visit https://www.bgpodcastnetwork.com/    https://cuofga.org/   https://www.drakerealty.com/   https://www.esogrepair.com/       See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Charles Knight on “Robert E. Lee” For More info: WWW.ChicagoCWRT.ORG Douglas S. Freeman's Pulitzer Prize-winning three-volume biography of Robert E. Lee is a masterful reconstruction of the man's life. So exhaustive was Freeman's research that he often boasted he could account for every hour of Lee's life from West Point until his death. Freeman's Lee is thorough, but it isn't THAT thorough. Often neglected in Freeman's Lee and other studies of the general or of his various battles and campaigns is what Lee was doing when he wasn't in the spotlight. Charles Knight's new From Arlington to Appomattox: Robert E. Lee's Civil War Day by Day, 1861-1865 recreates those four years of Lee's life--at least as much as is possible at 150+ years distance. It is often forgotten that in addition to his duties as a general, Lee was still a husband, father, and friend. He lost a daughter, sister, two grandchildren, daughter-in-law, and his home during the war. In2 this presentation Knight shares some of the results of years of research into Lee's actions during the war years; previously unknown sources, inconsistencies that confused Freeman and dozens of other historians over the years, memorable anecdotes of Lee's daily life, and other historical "nuggets" that came to light in his research. Charles Knight is native of Richmond, VA, where he developed a love of history at an early age. He has worked at museums and historic sites for more than 20 years in Virginia, Arizona, and North Carolina, and has given historical presentations to audiences across the country. He is the author of Valley Thunder: The Battle of New Market (Savas Beatie, 2010), From Arlington to Appomattox: Robert E. Lee's Civil War Day by Day (Savas Beatie, 2021), as well as numerous magazine and journal articles, and was a historical advisor on the 2014 film Field of Lost Shoes, about the Battle of New Market. Knight is currently working on a biography of Confederate general and railroad magnate William Mahone; a history of Gen. Douglas MacArthur's Honor Guard company; and editing the memoirs and papers of Gen. R.E. Lee's aide Charles Venable. Knight is the curator of military history at the NC Museum of History in Raleigh and resides in Holly Springs, NC, with his wife and children.

Former Etowah baseball star Drew Waters returned to Eagle Peak on Tuesday to see his No. 7 jersey retired by the program. The Kansas City Royals outfielder helped lead the Eagles to the 2017 Class AAAAAAA state championship, then was selected 41st overall by the Atlanta Braves in that summer's draft. Waters was named the Cherokee County Player of the Year as a senior in 2017. He hit .510 with 15 home runs and 41 RBIs before also earning the Gatorade Georgia Player of the Year. In the 2017 draft, Waters became the highest-drafted high school player in Cherokee County history. Waters stayed after the ceremony to sign autographs and chat with fans, while also taking in the preseason scrimmage against Marist. He spent time pre-game with the current players and worked out with the current generation of Eagles, one year after they were the Class AAAAAAA runners-up. After heading to Kansas City in a July trade last year, Waters made his major league debut Aug. 22 and went on to appear in 32 games, batting .240 with six doubles, five home runs and 18 RBIs. Local government leaders in Cherokee County and the cities of Holly Springs and Woodstock are working together to create an area plan for future development at the Interstate 575 and Sixes Road interchange, the county announced. The area in question consists of about 100 acres in the southeast quadrant of the interchange. The land is divided among the two cities and the county jurisdictions. All three governmental entities' comprehensive land use plans show the parcels as potential regional center and employment opportunities. To this end, county commissioners unanimously approved a 45-day moratorium Tuesday on the acceptance of any new applications related to rezoning, development or construction in the I-575 and Sixes Road Interchange area. Holly Springs City Council members are asking county officials to reject a company's application for a proposed storage facility at North Rope Mill Road in unincorporated Cherokee County near the city. The city council voted Monday to recommend to county commissioners that they deny a rezoning request for property in unincorporated Cherokee County within the Holly Springs growth boundary area. The property in question is at 624 North Rope Mill Road, near Sixes Road. The request from Robert Stone is to rezone 11.1 acres from single family residential to light industrial with concurrent variances for an outdoor storage facility for boats and recreational vehicles. The parcel lies within an area that Holly Springs, Woodstock and Cherokee County officials have identified as a potential jobs center, and Holly Springs and Cherokee County have passed moratoriums on new applications for the area. City staff will send a letter to the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners expressing the city council's concerns regarding the proposed rezoning, Holly Springs City Manager Rob Logan said Wednesday. The application is scheduled to be on the Cherokee County Planning Commission agenda in March. The city council also discussed an intergovernmental agreement with Cherokee County to conduct the city's election. The city council will vote on this agreement at the Feb. 23 meeting. According to the GBI, the agency's CEACC Unit and Homeland Security Investigations began a joint investigation into the Sandridges' online activity after receiving a report in reference to their online activity. This investigation led to a search warrant of the Sandridges' home and their subsequent arrests. The Sandridges were taken to the Gordon County Jail upon their arrest. As of Thursday, they remained in custody, according to the jail's website. A spokesperson for the charter school said that Allyn Sandridge is no longer an employee there, but declined to comment further. Sheehan's son, Drew, is a junior tight end for Georgia, so it was about seeing his son experience the pinnacle of college football. Drew played for Woodstock, coached by Brent Budde, and walked onto the Bulldogs' roster last season, and Tom said the last two years have been life-changing. The Bulldogs will be hosting a championship parade and celebration today in Athens, where certainly many more Cherokee Countians will make the trip to revel in the victory. Four points were the difference on Wednesday as the Reinhardt men's basketball team got back on track in the AAC. The Eagles outlasted Milligan 83-79, finishing a second straight win after knocking off Tennessee Wesleyan last Saturday. It's been a season of ups and downs for Reinhardt, but following the two straight wins, it moved to 8-6 in conference play and is one game away from the .500 mark for the season at 8-9 overall. Wednesday's game was a rare moment where the Eagles were outshot by Milligan but managed to still escape with the win. Reinhardt shot 42.2 percent overall compared to the opposition's 54.3 percent and 47.4 percent from behind the 3-point line. Milligan shot 63.6 percent in the second half yet only outscored Reinhardt 48-47. The Eagles' defense made a difference in the first half, finishing with an 8-4 advantage in steals while hauling in eight offensive rebounds to keep possessions alive. The mayor of Emerson and his wife were killed in a four-car crash Saturday in Cherokee County, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office reported, and a man has been arrested on charges related to the crash. According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a four-car crash at about 4 p.m. Saturday on Knox Bridge Highway, east of Fields Landing Drive near Canton. Preliminary indications are that a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling east on Knox Bridge Hwy. lost control and crossed the center line striking a Hyundai Santa Fe traveling westbound. That collision caused the Hyundai to lose control, overturn and travel into the eastbound lane where it was struck by a GMC Savana van traveling eastbound. The Chevrolet truck also struck a Mazda 3 traveling west. Emerson Mayor Albert Pallone who was driving the Hyundai, and his wife, Camilia Pallone died in the crash. The driver of the Mazda 3 and the driver of the GMC Savana were transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet pick up, William Bryan Abernathy of Calhoun, was arrested and charged with first degree vehicular homicide, and serious injury by vehicle, DUI and reckless driving. Abernathy was also injured and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed local hospital. The site of the crash is a little over a mile east from where a Cherokee County father and daughter died in a crash on Thanksgiving - Alivia Mynes, an 18-year-old former Creekview High School volleyball standout and college freshman, and her father, Chris Mynes, 52, was the human resources director at Fox Factory in Gainesville, according to their obituaries. A trial has been set for a Woodstock resident and her son facing felony charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the United States Capitol. Lisa Marie Eisenhart, from Woodstock, and her son, Eric Munchel, who lives in Nashville, are charged with entering the Capitol with rioters and disrupting the proceedings there, according to their indictment. Munchel, who has been referred to as the “zip tie guy,” was photographed with zip ties in the Capitol Building, according to prosecutors. He is also accused of carrying a dangerous weapon, a Taser, on the grounds and in the Capitol Building, which is associated with additional charges in the indictment. Attorneys for Munchel and Eisenhart have said they did not bring the zip ties, but found them inside the Capitol. The trial is scheduled to start April 11 before Judge Royce C. Lamberth in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Eisenhart and Munchel have pleaded not guilty on all counts, court documents show.   A tradition to honor deceased veterans returns December17, when military families, veterans and volunteers will gather to place thousands of wreaths on the headstones at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. The Holly Springs City Council is expected to make a decision at its Dec. 19 meeting. Holly Springs uses a plurality voting system, in which the candidate with the most votes is the winner regardless of percentage, and there are no runoffs. If Holly Springs switches to a simple majority system, like for state elections, 50% plus at least one vote will be required for a candidate to win. Under this system, in the event that no one receives 50% plus one vote in the race, there will be a runoff. Establishing a 50% plus one voting system in Holly Springs requires the city to go through the state legislature to change its charter. The city council's next meeting is at 7 p.m. December 19 at city hall.     River Ridge and West Forsyth went back and forth all night, but it was the Knights' big fourth quarter that put them over the top on Saturday's 56-47 win at the Cherokee/Forsyth Challenge. With the game tied 38-34 heading into the fourth quarter, the Knights went on an 8-0 run, with four quick points from Davis Hansraj, to take control of the scoreboard. They did not trail the rest of the way. Those three seniors were pivotal in the Knights' late push, and Hansraj tallied a team-high 17 points on Saturday. Head scored 11 points while controlling the paint on both ends, and McCord had six points. Bret Senay, a junior, finished with nine points. For West Forsyth, Sam Maynard carried the offense with 23 points, 11 of which came in the fourth quarter. Chase Damerell was second in the score column with 10 points, followed by Lachlan Povenz with seven points. After playing a tough intra-county game on Friday night, it was a quick turnaround for River Ridge. Darling noticed the fatigue setting in but credited his guys for returning to form when necessary. Saturday marked the Knights' second straight win since dropping three straight. Hey Sis! Today, I'm continuing the conversation with my Sis Rachel that we started last week. Today's episode may be a little triggering for some of you if you were involved in this type of relationship, so read the show notes and decide if this episode is right for you. Walking away from a toxic relationship doesn't mean everything is going to be great from that point. There is healing work to do. We have to realize that God is the only one who can truly fill our voids, so we can't look for another man to do that In part 2 of this conversation, Rachel tells us all about her healing journey and how she partnered with God. She talks to us about the revelations from God. However, her healing journey wasn't a smooth ride. She learned she really had to trust God in her singleness and surrender her desires for His. Her story is so encouraging because it's a reminder that whatever and whoever God has for you is for you. There's no need to rush. The most important thing is to heal and get it right.  A little about our guest:  Rachel L. Stephens, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker and currently serves as a grief counselor for children and adults. Mrs. Stephens earned a Baccalaureate in Social Work from Rust college in Holly Springs, MS, and a Master's of Social Work from Union University in Jackson, TN. Rachel is active in community organizations that encompass all fields of social work specific to advocating for children and families. She received intensive play therapy training at the Johns Hopkins University's School of Education In Baltimore, MD, and has obtained her certification as a Registered play therapist with the Association For Play Therapy. Rachel is happily married to her husband, Davis, and recently had her beautiful baby boy, John Elijah Sis, part 2 is just as good as part 1. This conversation is so juicy and will be eye opening for many. It may make you realize some things about yourself, and may even make you grateful that you walked away from your previous relationship. Kick off those cute shoes and turn me up in those earbuds, Sis! This is a must listen episode that you won't want to miss. Remember, the gratitude journal challenge is going on now. Hey Sis! Today's episode may be a little triggering for some of you if you were involved in this type of relationship, so read the show notes and decide if this episode is right for you. Have you ever been in a relationship with someone, yet you were still lonely? Were you ever in a relationship where you were disrespected, degraded, used, and verbally, emotionally, and even financially abused? Have you ever struggled because you did things in a relationship that you weren't proud of just to be seen and loved by a man? Today, we are talking to another one of my sisters from another mister. She is being super vulnerable and sharing all the deets about a past toxic relationship that was a turning point for her. The conversation was so good and deep that I split it into 2 episodes.  In part 1, Rachel takes us through all that she endured in a particular toxic relationship. Rachel believed she was making sacrifices for the sake of building a future with this man. However, he had other plans and took advantage of her kindness and all she was willing to give. A local nonprofit is asking for help to save a 250-year-old church in Holly Springs in need of repairs. The historic Lebanon Church on Sixes Road has not had services in 30 years, Sheila Reed said, but she and a group of residents are trying to make sure the building and its history aren't lost. Reed, who occasionally attended services at the church as a child and whose grandparents were members, said the group hopes to raise $55,000 for repairs to the church to potentially use the building again for services and open it to the community for events.

Stuff In This Episode:  We talk with former Director of Creative Media for Football at North Carolina State University, Mike Jones, about what's next in his career and how he got to this point. Mike shares how it has been a life-long dream to work for the Charlotte Hornets, and the dream started as a player, then after he obtained a B.S. in Sport Management with a minor in Coaching from Liberty University in May 2018, it changed to being an agent. Shortly after that, he got experience with his first camera and fell in love with Photography.  Mike sought out mentors, worked hard, and created a career for himself as a creative, even though he struggled with that term. Mike shares stories of "making it happen" and working with celebrities. We discuss advice for creatives to make their dreams happen Be consistent. Do good work where you are at. You can get noticed. Network. Don't be afraid to seek help and take risks to make your dreams come true. It's Tuesday. To attract celebrity clients, you need to act like you've been there and not just "fan-girl" out. In This Episode:   Brandon's approach is sustainable; he believes your diet should be the way you eat and not a fad diet filled with restrictions.  With so much conflicting information about what to eat, it isn't easy to find reliable science-based strategies that work for a lifetime. Learn the sustainable way to approach food, nutrition, and lifestyle changes. The yo-yo diets stop here. The new Fire Within App, now available on Apple and Android, has six weeks of weight training, body weight, and abs program. We break down some of the most common fad diets with the pros and cons of each. We talk about counting macros on apps like my fitness pal and Sarah's experience where she tracked it for a year, which is why Brandon doesn't coach macros. It is possible that for some, it leads to a constant measurement of everything that can lead to eating disorders. Brandon talks about his approach and how he trains his clients. Jenny talks about her evaluation with Brandon and what she learned. With so much information about diet and exercise, where do you start? We talk about that. Everybody is different, and the goals should be personalized and based on their goals. A critical aspect of a successful and sustainable approach to fitness is to start by understanding your why. One tip is to just keep asking why at least seven times to uncover the intrinsic answer to why you want to work out and then use that as your motivation to keep going. Stick Figure Suicide was a punk rock band from Milltown, New Jersey. The band was formed in 1997, and were part of the emerging emo-punk rock scene of the late 1990s in the Northeast. Their music has been described as a mastery of “old-school hardcore moves and hyperspeed tempos” with clean, precise, over-driven guitars, and they are classified as a blend of fast and melodic hardcore-punk, with lyrics that are occasionally humorous. They drew comparison to the music of the hardcore punk band Minor Threat, and even Against All Authority. Maximumrocknroll described their songs on the Road Kill EP Split with Mohawk Barbie as “displaying some pretty good energy of their own with their early '90s style hardcore.I got Paul on the Skype and this is what we chat about: How to develop a screaming voice Dave Smalley Trash this CD comp Slicing his hands up at their first show Vintage Vinyl Their drummer over selling them to get them on shows Their song Dred Playing with Anti Flag Getting in a fist fight  The Road Kill EP Meeting Dave Smalley And a ton more
