CTL Script/ Top Stories of December 26th Publish Date: December 26th Pre-Roll: From the Ingles Studio Welcome to the Award-Winning Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast Today is Friday, December 26th and Happy Birthday to Lars Ulrich I’m Chris Culwell and here are the stories Cherokee is talking about, presented by Times Journal Cherokee High School student places in statewide art contest Salleigh Grubbs appointed to State Election Board Georgia DOT suspends lane closures for the holidays Plus, Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on holiday foods We’ll have all this and more coming up on the Cherokee Tribune-Ledger Podcast, and if you’re looking for Community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! Commercial: INGLES 8 STORY 1: Cherokee High School student places in statewide art contest Cherokee High senior Grace Dai just snagged second place in the Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites Art Contest, and her piece, “The Fall of the House of Chief Vann,” is heading to the Georgia State Capitol for the 2026 legislative session. Pretty cool, right? Dai’s no stranger to recognition—she’s been in the Governor’s Honors Program for Visual Arts, featured in the Atlanta High School Art Exhibit, and, oh yeah, she’s also a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. Her art teacher, Morgan Clifton, must be beaming. Grace? She’s clearly on a roll, and it doesn’t look like she’s slowing down anytime soon. STORY 2: Salleigh Grubbs appointed to State Election Board Salleigh Grubbs, former Cobb GOP Chair, is stepping into a new role on the State Election Board. Lt. Gov. Burt Jones appointed her to fill the seat left by Rick Jeffares, who stepped down last week. It’s a “recess appointment,” Grubbs explained, and she’s diving in right away. “I’m honored, humbled—really, all of it,” she said. “Fair elections have been my focus for years, and I’m ready to get to work.” A Marietta native, Grubbs led the Cobb GOP until earlier this year and now serves as the Georgia GOP’s first vice chair. “This is about transparency,” she added. STORY 3: Georgia DOT suspends lane closures for the holidays With the holidays here, the Georgia DOT is giving drivers a little gift: no lane closures on interstates, major routes, or roads near shopping hotspots. From Dec. 23 at 6 a.m. to Dec. 28 at 10 p.m., and again from Dec. 31 at 5 a.m. to Jan. 2 at 5 a.m., you’ll get a break from the cones. But don’t get too comfy—crews might still be working nearby, and emergencies? Yeah, those closures can still happen. Stay sharp, watch for signs, and check the 511GA app for updates. Safe travels, y’all. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back. Break: INGLES 9 STORY 4: High-Scoring Georgia Men's Basketball Continues Non-Conference Roll With SEC play looming, Georgia’s men’s basketball team has plenty to feel good about. Monday night, they steamrolled West Georgia 103-74, improving to 11-1 and keeping their spotless 35-0 home non-conference record under coach Mike White intact. Blue Cain and Jeremiah Wilkinson were on fire, combining for 39 points. Cain dropped 20 on 9-of-13 shooting, adding four assists and three steals. “They told me about the 100-point record after the game,” Cain said. “It’s cool, but we’re just focused on playing the right way.” Somto Cyril? A beast. Fifteen points, 15 boards, four blocks. SEC, here they come. FALCONS: Bijan Robinson was electric, C.J. Henderson clutch, and the Falcons? They held on—barely. Atlanta edged Arizona 26-19 on Sunday, thanks to Henderson’s diving interception with 90 seconds left, slamming the door on the Cardinals’ final drive. Robinson? Unreal. 171 total yards, a touchdown grab, and a spot in Falcons history—just the third player to hit 2,000 scrimmage yards in a season. Not bad company: Jamal Anderson, William Andrews. Arizona? Another heartbreak. Seven straight losses, 12 of their last 13. Brissett’s 203 yards weren’t enough, and a wild Michael Wilson TD catch wasn’t either. Atlanta’s still alive. Barely. I’m Keith Ippolito and this is your tribune ledger sports minute. STORY 5: Incoming Mayor Dennis Nelson shares goals for Ball Ground Dennis Nelson has big plans for Ball Ground. The incoming mayor, set to be sworn in Jan. 15, wants to turn Ball Ground Highway into a bustling commercial corridor and add a new park—maybe even the city’s first dog park. “Right now, it’s just an empty stretch,” he said. “People want to stay local, not drive miles for dinner or shopping.” Nelson’s also focused on the truck bypass project, aiming to keep heavy traffic out of downtown. “Everyone’s tired of the trucks,” he said. A Ball Ground resident since 2018, Nelson’s roots run deep—his great-great-grandfather helped settle the nearby city of Nelson. And now here is Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on holiday foods Commercial: We’ll have closing comments after this. On this Outlast Podcast, We break down Survivor 49, Episode 10, “Huge Dose of Bamboozle.” We dig into how the core trio continues to run the game like an old school alliance, why Rizzo's fake idol play might be the moment he tips into overconfidence, and how Savannah's extra vote turns tribal council into a brutal blindside. We also spend time on Christina's emotional journey, from opening up about her mom's passing with Jeff at the challenge to pushing through a brutal balance beam that tests her physically and mentally. From there, we talk about Sophie's immunity win, the shifting target on Savannah and Steven, and how everyone's “resume” is starting to define who feels safe and who should be terrified. To wrap up, we look ahead to what the preview sets up for Sophie and Sage, touch on the “On Fire” podcast reactions, and call out some wild fake news floating around Survivor Facebook about Mike White.00:00 – 02:00Thanksgiving talk, family Survivor chat, and why this season feels different from last season's Joe and Ava storyline.02:00 – 06:30The trio's dominance, Rizzo's fake idol performance at tribal, and whether he's slipping into dangerous overconfidence.06:30 – 11:30Christina's grief, Jeff asking her to talk about her mom, and how Survivor has shifted into a more compassionate, human-focused show.11:30 – 17:30Reward challenge at the Sanctuary: burgers, hot dogs, chocolate cake, wild new obstacles, and Christina's huge moment on the balance beam.17:30 – 21:30Hunger, exhaustion, and how gaunt everyone looks back at camp; Rizzo's guilt, Joanne trying to keep morale up, and the emotional wall the cast is hitting.21:30 – 26:00Immunity challenge breakdown, the rice offer, why nobody is taking food deals in the new era, and how the 26-day game can still feel harsher than the old 39-day format.26:00 – 30:30Idols and advantages everywhere: flushing Christina and Rizzo's power, Savannah's extra vote, and whether Sophie should flip to a new alliance while playing to the jury.30:30 – 35:30Tribal council fireworks: Rizzo's fake idol show, Christina playing her real idol for Steven, Savannah's extra vote, and Joanne's blindside exit.35:30 – 37:30Next-episode preview, favorite winner picks (Sophie and Christina), Facebook fake news about Mike White, “On Fire” takeaways, and closing thoughts.Christina's grief over her mom adds real emotional weight to the episode, especially during her conversation with Jeff and her grind through the reward challenge.Sophie goes from under-edited to essential, winning immunity and sliding into a key strategic position between the trio and the floaters.Savannah's extra vote is used perfectly to flip the script at tribal and send Joanne home in a clean blindside. The shortened 26-day era is still brutal, with players visibly starving and emotionally raw by the back half of the game.Trust is crumbling everywhere: idols are hidden, information is weaponized, and even close allies openly talk about blindsides as “expected.”Social media and “On Fire” with Jeff Probst are now part of the meta-game, shaping how fans and even players look at moves like Rizzo's fake idol and the rice offers.“You have to assume a lot of people are lying. Even in your alliance, you can't take anything at face value this deep in the game.”“Some of the best Survivor moments are when someone everyone doubts digs in and proves they belong in that challenge.”“If everything feels too good to be true at tribal, you should probably expect a blindside.”“Christina might not win, but getting to the end with that story would still be huge.”“The trio is so confident in their control that they're putting on a show for the jury while everyone else is just trying to survive.”Stay connected with Outlast and the Geek Freaks Network:Outlast on Twitter: @OutlastPodcast1
In this episode of The Journey, I sit down with my friend Mike White to talk about his life, his work, and the powerful story of his son, Connor. Mike shares how he transformed his pain into action by creating Connor's Second Chance, an endowment supporting at-risk youth through Youth for Christ. His commitment to honoring his son by helping others is a powerful reminder of resilience, gratitude, and choosing goodness—even in the hardest moments. If you'd like to support Connor's Second Chance, visit the Community Foundation or Youth for Christ. This is a meaningful, heartfelt episode and I'm grateful Mike chose to share his journey with all of us.
Peters Township's comeback against Pine-Richland in the WPIAL 5A championship was one for the ages. On their weekly podcast, Post-Gazette high school insiders Keith Barnes and Mike White react to that game and the rest WPIAL championships at Acrisure Stadium. How did Cole Neupaver, Nolan DiLucia and Co. storm back? How impressive were Will Martin's three touchdowns for Seton LaSalle in the Class 2A final? Why were coach Duke Johncour, RB Luca Neal and Avonworth able to repeat in Class 3A? And how did Clairton coach Wayne Wade and star Deon Lovelace-Pompey help the Bears pull away in Class 1A? Our duo tackles those questions; offers predictions for the PIAA semifinals this week and previews of the rankings for basketball season, which begins Friday. It's our 100th episode! We have a bumper edition this week to celebrate with a somewhat eclectic triple feature (as is our wont). Mike White and Sammy join us to discuss Sisters (1972), directed by Brian De Palma, The Brother from Another Planet (1984), directed by John Sayles, and Twins of Evil (1971), directed by John Hough. A sadly still very relevant critique of intolerance and division in the USA wedged between two lurid but very different tales riffing on the horror of psychological duality - there's so much to discuss and we duly do just that in our longest episode to date. Never fear though - it's all killer, no filler! We manage to get deep into The Brother From Another Planet without really spoiling it, and although we do discuss the ending of Twins of Evil, plot is not really the point of most Hammer horror and this is no exception. We do, however, call out Spoiler Territory for Sisters. If you want to skip ahead from that point, you can rejoin the conversation at the 1:35:59 mark to avoid spoilers. Thanks for being withus over this first hundred episodes - we aim to keep going for many hundreds more! Want to get in touch? It's the most wonderful time of year. No, it's not Christmas. It's the WPIAL football championships, with finals in Class 4A and Class 6A slated for Saturday at Pine-Richland. After analyzing the ramifications of the PIAA biennial realignment on football conferences, our Post-Gazette High School insiders Keith Barnes and Mike White delve into the matchups as McKeesport and running back Kemon Spell, who have been to the finals each of the last two years, hope to avenge a 2023 finals loss to the Quips, who have been bolstered by the return of quarterback Marques Council. In the Class 6A final, familiar foes meet as defending champion Central Catholic once again squares off with North Allegheny. They then look deeply at the Friday slate of eight semifinal matchups in Class 1A, Class 2A, Class 3A and Class 5A, featuring rematches from the regular season from Western Hills Conference foes Avonworth-North Catholic and Peters Township-Upper St. Clair from the Allegheny Six. As a bonus, they look at the PIAA Class 1A game featuring Westinghouse and District 5 champion Meyersdale Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Heading into the final weekend of the WPIAL football regular season, high school insiders Keith Barnes and Mike White tell you who should be the top seeds in each classification. Should Aliquippa get one of the two wild card playoffs spots in Class 4A and should Clairton or Fort Cherry get the No. 1 seed in Class 1A? Mohawk's Bobby Fadden is a five-sport athlete who has made WPIAL football history and is one of our Shining Stars. And who wins this week's big games of Westinghouse vs. University Prep (Pittsburgh City League championship), Steel Valley at South Allegheny, Montour at West Allegheny, Washington at Seton LaSalle, California at Jefferson-Morgan and North Catholic at Hopewell. Mike White sits down with journalist and author Clark Collis to talk about his latest deep dive into the world of fear and fascination, Screaming and Conjuring: The Rise of Modern Horror Franchises. Collis explores how films like The Conjuring, Insidious, and Paranormal Activity revived mainstream horror, spawned cinematic universes, and redefined the genre for a new generation. From haunted houses to found footage, Collis traces the eerie evolution of studio horror from the 2000s onward—where box office booms meet demonic possessions, and clever marketing becomes part of the scare.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-projection-booth-podcast--5513239/support.Become a supporter of The Projection Booth at http://www.patreon.com/projectionbooth

On this week's Varsity Xtra Podcast, Post-Gazette high school insiders Keith Barnes and Mike White take a look at what Penn State recruits from the WPIAL -- including Fort Cherry's Matt Sieg and McKeesport's Kemon Spell -- might do following James Franklin's firing as coach. They also look back at interim coach Terry Smith's time in the WPIAL as a player and coach. Later, they tackle some hot topics on the field in Wester Pa. Could Thomas Jefferson or Aliquippa really miss the WPIAL playoffs? Can Fox Chapel's Harran Zureikat break the state record for longest field goal of 64 yards? Trinity's Jonah Williamson and South Allegheny's Drew Cook are this week's "shining stars," and the guys serve up predictions of the top games this week: Montour at Aliquippa; Elizabeth Forward at Southmoreland; South Side at Laurel; North Allegheny at Pine-Richland; Canon-McMillan at Norwin; Central Valley at Hopewell. Off The Bench is back weekdays from 10a to 11a followed by The Stone Shields Show from 11a to noon! In a stunning intra-division swap, the Cincinnati Bengals acquired veteran quarterback Joe Flacco from the Cleveland Browns on October 7, 2025—the first trade between the AFC North rivals since the Browns' 1999 return. The deal cost Cincinnati a 2026 fifth-round pick, while netting them Flacco and a 2026 sixth-rounder from Detroit. This move comes amid a quarterback quandary: franchise star Joe Burrow has been sidelined since Week 2 with turf toe, projected to miss at least eight weeks, leaving the Bengals (2-3) mired in a three-game skid. Backup Jake Browning's tenure has been disastrous, with eight interceptions against six touchdowns, tanking an offense that ranks last in yards (228.6 per game) and fourth-worst in scoring (17.0 points). Weapons like Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins have been neutralized, as Browning's 64.5% completion rate and turnover woes have stifled Cincinnati's explosiveness. Coach Zac Taylor, noncommittal post a 37-24 loss to Detroit, signaled urgency ahead of Thursday's clash with Pittsburgh. Flacco, 40 and an 18-year vet, steps in as the presumptive starter, released backups Brett Rypien and Mike White to clear space. Why Flacco? His 2023 Comeback Player of the Year magic—leading the Browns to the playoffs—lingers, despite a rocky 2025 (1-3, 58.1% completion, 815 yards, 2 TDs, 6 INTs). Benchings for rookie Dillon Gabriel made him expendable in Cleveland, where Deshaun Watson's Achilles recovery looms. Flacco's AFC North savvy shines: 11 career wins over the Steelers, a Week 3 Browns victory versus Green Bay (Cincinnati's Week 6 foe). His under-center snaps could revive play-action, contrasting Taylor's shotgun-heavy scheme tailored for Burrow. Skeptics question Flacco's arm fading, but at a bargain price, it's low-risk salvation. A 5-4 stretch under Flacco could position the Bengals at 7-7 for Burrow's potential December return, vaulting them into the playoff mix in a muddled division (Steelers lead at 3-1). Chase tweeted excitement: "Old heads know how to win." If Flacco channels his Super Bowl grit, this trade could rewrite Cincinnati's season from farce to redemption. Otherwise, it's another Bengals heartbreak in a rivalry-rich North. Packers vs. Bengals: Week 6 PreviewThe Green Bay Packers (2-1-1) host the reeling Cincinnati Bengals (2-3) at Lambeau Field on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS). Coming off a Week 5 bye, Green Bay enters as a 14.5-point favorite, with the total at 46.5. azcentral.com This Lambeau clash pits a rested Packers squad against a Bengals team desperate for stability after Joe Burrow's season-ending Grade 3 turf toe surgery. espn.com Key Storylines: Cincinnati's offense has cratered without Burrow, ranking last in success rate (36.1%) and allowing the third-most passing yards (1,295). sharpfootballanalysis.com Veteran Joe Flacco, acquired midweek from Cleveland, makes his Bengals debut, but faces a Packers secondary yielding just 205.8 passing yards per game (11th-fewest). bengals.com Green Bay's Jordan Love, fresh off torching Dallas for 319 yards in a 40-40 tie, should exploit Cincy's porous pass defense (27th in pressure rate). si.com RB Josh Jacobs (76.4 PFF grade) bolsters the run game, while rookie WR Matthew Golden adds explosiveness. bengals.com Bengals WRs Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins could test CB Nate Hobbs (concussion protocol, limited). acmepackingcompany.com Injuries: Bengals are decimated—Burrow out three months, S Geno Stone (calf on IR), G Cordell Volson (shoulder IR). espn.com Packers: DT Devonte Wyatt (knee DNP), OT Anthony Belton (ankle DNP), G Aaron Banks (groin doubtful), TE Tucker Kraft (questionable), T Zach Tom (questionable). packers.com WR Jayden Reed remains on IR (foot/collarbone). Buonopalooza wraps up with Howard Morris's caper comedy Who's Minding the Mint? (1967). Jim Hutton stars as Harry Lucas, a hapless Treasury worker who accidentally swipes $50,000 and scrambles to replace it before he's caught. To pull off the fix, he enlists a motley crew of oddballs, including Dorothy Provine's Verna Baxter, who's more interested in perfecting her brownies than in breaking and entering. The ensemble bursts with familiar faces—Milton Berle, Joey Bishop, Walter Brennan, Jack Gilford, and of course, Victor Buono.Mike White, Otto Bruno, and Tim Madigan close out the Buono-palooza celebration with this breezy, big-cast caper.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-projection-booth-podcast--5513239/support.Become a supporter of The Projection Booth at http://www.patreon.com/projectionbooth
Buonopalooza rolls on with Robert Aldrich's Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964). Following the massive success of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, Aldrich re-teamed with Bette Davis for another Southern Gothic nightmare. This time, Davis plays Charlotte Hollis, a reclusive woman haunted by whispers of murder and locked in a decaying Louisiana mansion where secrets fester and madness simmers. The film co-stars Olivia de Havilland, Joseph Cotten, Agnes Moorehead, and—of course—Victor Buono in a pivotal role. Mike White is joined by Tim Madigan and Otto Bruno to dig into the history, the production troubles, and the legacy of one of the juiciest entries in the “Psycho-Biddy” cycle.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-projection-booth-podcast--5513239/support.Become a supporter of The Projection Booth at http://www.patreon.com/projectionbooth
