The U.S. national debt has surged past $37 trillion, raising alarms about its long-term impact on economic stability and generational equity. While some argue that low interest rates make high debt manageable, fiscal experts warn that relying on favorable conditions is a risky bet. Eroding public investment, budget gimmicks, and declining trust in economic data all compound the challenge. Dr. Carolyn Bourdeaux, Executive Director of the Concord Coalition, is here to explain what's at stake and what can be done.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible! In today's episode for August 31st, guest host Heather leads us through a meaningful journey in Scripture, focusing on Ezekiel chapters 12 to 14 and Revelation chapter 5. Heather invites listeners from around the globe to pause and reflect—not just on the words themselves, but on the way they point us to Jesus, the true source of life. Together, we dig into themes of rebellion, judgment, and hope, witnessing God's faithfulness even in times of despair. As the episode unfolds, Heather unpacks the powerful vision of the Lamb in Revelation, emphasizing that when our first look at the world prompts tears and confusion, we are called to look again—to see the redeeming love of Christ who steps forward on our behalf. Through scripture, thoughtful reflection, and earnest prayer, this episode encourages us to keep seeking, keep worshiping, and keep discovering the deep love of God that restores and renews us each day. Join us as we pray together, hold onto hope, and remember that no matter where we are in our story, we are deeply loved. TODAY'S DEVOTION: At first look, you might weep, but you need to look again. And again we look for answers to the judgment that life is sure to bring—the rebellion that is borne out in each human heart, and the destruction that comes from our own selfish ways. When we take that first look, we are going to weep because we don't have an answer. John didn't have an answer either. He weeps because he realizes that within himself he has no answer to judgment. No one has been found worthy. No one has stepped forward on behalf of this broken and rebellious world. John weeps for himself and his nation, but an elder stops him from weeping. He's told by this elder to take a second look. In this second look, he is going to see an answer. And the answer is not what you would think. The answer is the Lamb. He says, stop weeping. Look. This Lamb steps forward to take the scroll that represents the fury of judgment that this broken and rebellious world has brought on themselves. He's not led or pushed forward. He steps forward because of the love he has for his broken world and for broken people like me and you. This Lamb steps forward to take the scroll representing the judgment due this world. The Lamb is the only one who has the answer for the judgment I deserve in this life. That scroll was nailed with him on the cross. As it were, on the cross he opened the scroll and answered the charges written on it. He absorbed the fury of our judgments. He answered it all with self-giving, radically forgiving, co-suffering love. That's what we are asked to look at again. Then John is told to look a third time. This third look shows him all that the Lamb has accomplished by stepping forward. He sees a vision of people from every tribe and tongue and language, countless millions around the throne, worshiping and adoring the Lamb. Keep looking. When you don't see an answer in the midst of your tears, keep looking. If you look, you will see a Lamb. He alone has the answer you're looking for. He is the answer to your despair and shame, your broken heart and your regrets. He is the answer for it all. He has stepped forward for you out of love, to do what he alone can do. We need to look again—a third time. Then we will see that the Lamb has stepped forward for countless millions of others, other broken and rebellious people like us. He is making them new, restoring their hearts, drying their tears and giving them a new song. Worthy is the Lamb. May God enable us to sing this new song today. And may he cause us to look, and look, and look again. That's a prayer I have for my own soul. That's a prayer I have for my family and for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. Pastor Billy shares a message of encouragement!
In counterbalance to those who crept into the church and led people astray, Jude admonishes us to keep ourselves in the love of God, expectantly awaiting God's mercy. In this message we get an incredible insight into what God's mercy looks like, both to us and in the man-to-man relationship. We can see God's mercy in the context that Jude intended and apply it to our own lives by staying focused on what God has done for us. In doing so we accomplish the purpose of keeping ourselves in the love of God and staying the course toward life eternal. The Mavericks' decision to trade Luka Doncic keeps getting buried... plus, we've gotten to the point where the NFL officiating union has to respond to bogus Chiefs conspiracy theories!
Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless. (Philippians 2:16 NLT) Of all of the people who went into the various portions of the Promised Land that God had allotted to the Israelites, Caleb was the only one who successfully drove out all his enemies. And he did it at the age of eighty-five. Caleb had a strength that never waned because he had a love for God that never waned. Caleb went to Joshua and said, “So give me the hill country that the Lord promised me. You will remember that as scouts we found the descendants of Anak living there in great, walled towns. But if the Lord is with me, I will drive them out of the land, just as the Lord said” (Joshua 14:12 NLT). He had asked for one of the most treacherous areas in the land, Hebron, which was known for its rugged terrain and fierce opponents. Yet the Bible goes on to say, “So Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave Hebron to him as his portion of land. Hebron still belongs to the descendants of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite because he wholeheartedly followed the Lord, the God of Israel” (verses 13–14 NLT). Maybe there is another reason Caleb wanted Hebron. The very word Hebron means “love, fellowship, communion.” This was the place where Abraham met with God face to face. That is what Caleb longed for. While others longed for Egypt, Caleb longed for Hebron. While others looked back, Caleb looked forward. And while others wanted to please themselves, Caleb wanted to please God. That is a key to finishing well. You’re always moving forward spiritually, seeking to grow spiritually, and never looking back. Anyone who is running a race knows that you can’t look back. It’s hard to run while you’re looking over your shoulder. You’ll tend to stumble over your own feet. If you want to finish well, then you have to keep looking forward. Don’t look over your shoulder, and don’t look behind you. Keep moving forward. Every day we should be seeking to grow stronger spiritually and grow more and more like Jesus. Corrie ten Boom was a great woman of God who went through incredible suffering in a Nazi extermination camp for hiding Jews in her home. She said, "If you look at the world, you'll be distressed. If you look within, you'll be depressed. If you look at God you'll be at rest." That is the key. Keep looking forward. As Hebrews 12:1–2 encourages us, “And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith” (NLT). Jesus Christ Himself is watching us. He is the one who will give us the strength to finish this race. People will let you down, and circumstances will disappoint you. Keep looking to Jesus. He is the one you need to finish the race for. Keep going. Run the race of life. Don’t give up. Don’t slow down. We need to keep our focus and remember what our objective is. Let’s finish well. The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. Steve Job ‘You've got to find what you love,' Jobs says Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple, says here that if you want to achieve something truly amazing, you need to be passionate about what you're doing. It's like this: Great work: This means doing something exceptional, something that stands out and makes a difference. Love what you do: This means you're interested in it, you enjoy it, and maybe you even find it fun. The idea is that when you love what you do, it's easier to put in the effort and creativity needed to make it great. You're more likely to: Stick with it: Your passion will keep you going even when things get challenging. Go the extra mile: You'll be willing to put in more time and energy because you enjoy it. Be more creative: When you love something, you develop new ideas and ways of doing things. Steve Jobs is saying that if you want to be truly successful and do something amazing, find something you love to do and pour your heart into it! That's the recipe for great work.

"If you find yourself looking back where you no longer belong, call on Jesus Christ who brings hope and healing amid all your longing. We can only speculate as to the reasons why Lot's wife defied the instructions to not look back. Some theological commentators agree she was looking back with a longing to return. In her willful disobedience, she gazed where she no longer belonged, and her life ended. Like Lot's wife, I no longer belong where I once lived. But, unlike Lot's wife, I found belonging where the Lord brought me. Though I can't return to my childhood home, I've found belonging with the church family that loved me unconditionally during my childhood pain."Leave a comment for our guest author, Sandy: https://incourage.me/?p=236847 --What if you could actually see God clearer and know Him deeper in the middle of your struggles? During this podcast, host Tawana Lowery shares three important strategies that will help us overcome disappointment (regardless of the circumstances) AND … Keep our Joy!! And as the new year approaches, let these strategies arm you with a game plan to transcend the disappointment traps that might arise. SCRIPT: How to Overcome Disappointment and Keep Your Joy By Tawana Lowery (excerpts taken from her upcoming book) 1. The Holiday Seasons is typically a time for celebrating with friends and loved ones. 2. But it can also present the greatest opportunity to experience the pain of Disappointment… · Though we might not want to readily admit it… · Disappointment is big part of life… · Disappointment hurts and stings… · Especially when it involves relationships. · But most of all… disappointment steals our joy. 3. During this Podcast, I want to review 3 Strategies that will help us Overcome Disappointment (regardless of the circumstances) AND … Keep our Joy!! 4. And as the new year approaches, I believe these strategies will arm you with a game plan to Transcend the Disappointment Traps that might arise. 5. Like you… I've had numerous disappointing experiences. · But one that stands out happened when I was only 8 years old. · And it happened during the holiday season. 6. In those days we still called it a Christmas Party. 7. Second only to the last day of school, it was the most anticipated day of the entire year. 8. Each hallway and classroom was covered with beautiful decorations. 9. And the tantalizing aroma of Christmas Cookies hung like a thick fog, consuming every corner of every room. 10. Weeks of anticipation followed by hours of celebration concluded with the most exciting part of the day. · The Student Gift Exchange! 11. The ritual consisted of the teacher passing out each gift (in a very orderly fashion of course). 12. After what seemed a lifetime, she found the present with my name on it. 13. As she approached my desk, my exuberance quickly devolved into disappointment! 14. Because my sweet teacher wasn't holding a beautifully wrapped gift with a shiny bow…. It was nothing of the sort! · Instead, she was carrying what appeared to be a ball of aluminum foil…. 15. With an awkward wince of embarrassment, she placed the horrifying blob on my desk. 16. Well…. my initial reaction was total confusion. Surely my name was not on THAT. 17. It wasn't even a present…. Seriously… who in their right mind would give a ball of crumpled aluminum foil as a Christmas gift? 18. Fighting back the crocodile tears, I quickly snatched it off my desk and placed it in my lap… trying to remain expressionless. 19. As I clutched it tightly, in an effort to hide the evidence, I could feel that something was wrapped inside. 20. I thought… “Should I open it now or wait until I get home?” 21. The thoughts were racing back and forth. 22. But soon my 8 year old curiosity took control. 23. With eyes straight ahead and emotions at bay, I slowly pushed back the foil with my fingertips. · That's when embarrassment gave way to complete bewilderment. 24. Inside the crumpled ball of foil was a small Plastic Donkey. · It was the kind of humble little grey burrow you might see in a Nativity Scene. · It had very sad eyes and a bowed head. 25. A donkey! A plastic donkey! What on earth can you do with a plastic donkey? · Just to add insult to injury, it wasn't even new. 26. As I gazed at this unimaginable nightmare… My mind quickly recalled my shopping trip from the previous week. 27. I thought about the time I invested selecting the perfect gift for my classmate. · It was wrapped with tender care, by yours truly. · Then finished to perfection with a lovely bow! · Yet despite my tireless efforts, this is what I get in return? 28. You know… that event happened more than 40 years ago, and yet the disappointment I experienced is branded in my memory. So… here's the point of the story? 29. Sometimes we give our very best to people and circumstances only to receive a Plastic Donkey in return. 30. Sometimes situations over which we have no control cause embarrassment and heartache, leaving us with a stomach full of disappointment and let-down. 31. But… What if we could overcome those deflated emotions and bounce back with a fervent determination to Keep our Joy? · That's what these 3 Principles will help you achieve. The first Principle is…. “Keep it in Perspective.” 1. A few days after the Christmas party, my mother learned the details behind the gift I had received. · My classmate, Teresa and her family were struggling. · Her father had lost his job, and her mom was fighting a serious illness. · Teresa's family had no money and no insurance for medical expenses. · In fact, the community was providing money for food and other basic needs. · No doubt, they were facing a very bleak holiday season. 2. My mom also explained how that little plastic donkey was part of their family Nativity Scene. · And it just so happened, the little sad burrow was Teresa's favorite character piece. · In actuality, Teresa gave me something very near and dear to her heart. · She gave the best she had to offer. You might even say her gift was sacrificial… sort of like the offering of the Widows Mite in the Bible. 3. Although my hurt from the disappointment was real, learning more about Teresa's situation shed new light on the entire event. · It helped me view it from a higher perspective. · As a result, my disappointed heart was transformed into a heart of compassion. · Keeping it in perspective gave me the emotional strength to keep my joy. The second Principle for Keeping our Joy is… “Keep Giving Your Best.” 1. When we returned to school after the holidays… I decided to give Teresa what she had given me. · She gave me her best. How could I do any less? 2. For the remainder of the school year, I poured into her life as much as possible. · I helped her with homework so she could make better grades. · We sat together at lunch so she wouldn't be alone. · Because we were the same size, I gave her some of my clothes and shoes. 3. Teresa and Tawana became best buds, and we both excelled because of it. 4. She discovered there was a great student on the inside with the ability to learn and grow. 5. I discovered leadership abilities that allowed me to inspire others to excel. 6. Staying true to your core values in the midst of the pain, is vital for overcoming disappointment. · That includes being intentional to give your best regardless of what other don't give you. 7. Think about it like this… · If you want to keep your joy, then be sure to engage in activities that set you up to achieve it. 8. After all, it's very difficult to give your best while experiencing sadness at the same time. Let's wrap this up with the third Principle for Keeping our Joy which is to… “Keep Looking for the Good.” 1. On one of the coldest days of the year, I got caught in a huge traffic jam on the way to have my car heater repaired. 2. The temperature was 35 degrees outside and only slightly warmer inside. · Not exactly the best day to be stuck in traffic with no heat. 3. But while I was sitting in my very frigid car, staring at a endless line of traffic, it brought to light another important truth about overcoming disappointment… · There's a big difference between being cold and being left out in the cold. · The first is simply an unpleasant circumstance of life. The second is a distressing place in life. 4. In the same way, there's a big difference in being disappointed with a temporary situation of life and being disappointed with life in general. · Most disappointments we encounter are nothing more than temporary unpleasant interludes between other normal events. · But problems arise when we allow the occasional let downs of life to create a fatalistic attitude towards life. 5. I've discovered the most effective way to avoid this pitfall is to maintain a posture of gratitude while you're in a disappointment. 6. Shivering in the car that morning, my choices were very simple. Either complain and grumble or be thankful and humble. · I chose to wrap my mind in a warm blanket of gratitude. · I decided to focus on the long list of things I was thankful for. 7. Of course, I didn't relish sitting in a cold car during a two hour traffic jam. · But, I couldn't change it. · And, honestly, the situation could have been much worse. 8. So I began to recite (out loud) all I was grateful for. · Things like warm clothes, warm socks and boots, · a full tank of gas, · a semi-hot cup of coffee, · good health, · money in the bank, · friends and family who loved me, · and so on and so on. 9. As I focused more and more on the good, my stress began to dissipate. · I became less focused on what was trying to steal my joy and more centered on what would revive it. 10. I believe when we form the habit of looking for the good in the “not so good” we actually Teach our Minds to be Joyful. Closing 1. I'm not suggesting we should never admit or feel Disappointment. 2. It's part of life because …. a. We live in a fallen world full of fallen people doing fallen things. 3. But I am suggesting that we use the Plastic Donkey's of life as a reminder… To Keep it in Perspective, To Keep Giving our Best and To Keep Looking for the Good. 4. When we do so… we Keep our hearts and minds positioned to KEEP our JOY (during the holidays and throughout the year). Last week, we started to answer Anna's question about how do we keep looking to God in the hard times. If you have not listened to last week's episode, I highly encourage you to go back and listen to it! As I shared last week, it probably doesn't come as a surprise to us that we are living in some pretty dark times. We have the war in Israel that just broke out, people are more confused than ever by what is right and what is wrong. Outside of a college just the other day, there were protesters that were advocating murder. I wish I could share that this world is going to get better, but unfortunately, it's not. The Bible talks about this in Isaiah 60:1-3. It says, “Arise, Jerusalem! Let your light shine for all to see.For the glory of the Lord rises to shine on you. Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, (this is talking about what we're seeing today) but the glory of the Lord rises and appears over you. All nations will come to your light; mighty kings will come to see your radiance.”How do we stand strong during this time? How do we, like Anna asked, keep looking to God even in the hard times? Last week, we began talking about the armor of God and we started digging into the first piece, the belt of Truth, but before we get back into that, let's go back and read Ephesians 6:10-18. It says, “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.11 Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God's righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.[e] 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.[f] 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. We have to put on the whole armor of God. But what does that actually mean? I sure don't carry around a Roman's armor with me everywhere I go. When I wake up in the morning, I don't put on my belt and my breastplate, and my sandals, and my helmet, and my shield and my sword. On this week''s AMA episode, Anna asks, "How do we keep looking to God even during hard times? Sometimes I struggle with not looking to God as soon as something goes wrong but I want to." Anna, this is such a great question. This is going to be a two part series, because I want you to really get this! It most like comes to no surprise to you all that we are living in some very interesting times. The world is getting darker and darker. Every time you turn on the news, it seems like there's something else to be concerned about. We are living in a world where it seems like everyone is so confused, they don't know what's right and what's wrong anymore, they are without hope…and then on top of that we have an enemy who's number one goal is what John 10:10 tells us…it's to come into our lives, to steal, to kill and to destroy. So, with all this craziness, how do we keep looking to God even in the hard times? Well, first of all, let me tell you…there is hope! As Christians, when the world is so confused and have questions…they don't have answers, but as Christians, we do have answers and we do have hope. Ladies, this world is going to get darker and darker, but we have hope! Isaiah 60 verses 1-3 says, “Arise, Jerusalem! Let your light shine for all to see. For the glory of the Lord rises to shine on you. Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, (this is talking about what we're seeing today) but the glory of the Lord rises and appears over you. All nations will come to your light; mighty kings will come to see your radiance.” Ladies, while this world is getting darker and darker…God says you as a part of the body of Christ are going to get brighter and brighter! People will be amazed by your brightness, and they will be drawn to you. They want what you have! Ladies, you don't have to worry about the enemy…you don't have to worry about his agenda to steal, to kill and to destroy. You can stand strong and have hope even in the darkest of times. You have a God who is fighting for you. Who will never leave you nor turn His back on you. Deuteronomy 1:30 says, “The Lord your God is going ahead of you. He will fight for you, just as you saw him do in Egypt.” This is talking about what Moses freed the Israelites with the of God from the Egyptian people who were holding them as slaves. Deuteronomy 31 says, “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” How do we stand strong and courageous. How do we not allow ourselves to be afraid and panic.
