This Valentine's Day week, we're bringing you a couple's story that is rare and raw. From our Homewood community, JT and Katie Thornbury openly share about the profound emptiness in their lives and marriage prior to knowing Christ—and how they miraculously came to know Him, together, well into their 30s.   For years, troubled pasts and past experiences influenced how JT and Katie approached life and faith. Plus, striving in their careers and in their parenting meant they usually focused on themselves and not on each other. But through a series of hard circumstances and intense searching, JT and Katie found their hearts and marriage healed by Him.   What better way to celebrate Valentine's than to cheer on the Thornburys and their saved marriage? And even better, their secured salvation in Christ!   In this episode, you will learn:   –Without Christ's loving direction, all areas of your life will bend toward emptiness.   –Seek Him and you will find Him; He can use your doubts to draw you to Himself.   –Even after we come to know Christ, every day requires surrender and dependence.   Links:   Reason for God by Tim Keller   Mere Christianity by C.S. What Nightingale was to nursing, Robins is to content.Dave goes sanulus canulus as he follows JR's path finding - well according to John. And a glossy eyed Elis reminisces about utilising a Robins comedic innovation as he crashed and burned at a potentially career-making comedy gig. Because, deep down, we can't but help live like Thornbury's finest. But what of the areas of the show where John forces Elis to let go of his reassuring hand and walk free? Well he battles to maintain his >50% Connection Rate and there's a Made Up Game that will force Elis to rely on his practically otherwise useless NME collection instead.Want to get in touch with the show? fWotD Episode 2686: John Rolph Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Wednesday, 11 September 2024 is John Rolph.John Rolph (4 March 1793 – 19 October 1870) was a Canadian physician, lawyer, and political figure. As a politician, he was considered the leader of the Reform faction in the 1820s and helped plan the Upper Canada Rebellion. As a doctor, he founded several medical schools and incorporated new teaching techniques and medical procedures into his lectures. However, his actions against rival medical schools decreased public confidence in the ability of medical professionals to regulate themselves.Rolph grew up in Thornbury, Gloucestershire, and was educated in medicine and law. He immigrated to Upper Canada in 1813 and lived on his father's farm in Port Talbot, where he practised law and medicine concurrently and opened a medical school called the Talbot Dispensary. In 1824, Rolph was elected to the Parliament of Upper Canada and returned to England to petition the Colonial Office to allow the naturalization of American citizens in Canada. He was elected as an alderman to Toronto's first city council, though he resigned after his council colleagues did not select him to be the city's mayor. William Lyon Mackenzie persuaded Rolph to support the Upper Canada Rebellion in 1837. When the rebellion began, Rolph did not join the rebels at their headquarters and the Lieutenant Governor appointed him as his emissary to deliver the government's offer of a truce. Rolph fled to the US after the rebellion and focused on practising and teaching medicine. The Canadian government granted him amnesty and he returned to Canada in 1843, later creating a new medical institution called the Rolph School in Toronto. In 1851 he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and focused on his political career; upon the formation of the Morin-MacNab administration three years later, Rolph's priority returned to running his school. He retired as dean of his medical school in 1870 and died later that year after suffering a stroke. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:01 UTC on Wednesday, 11 September 2024.For the full current version of the article, see John Rolph on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Amy.

Anthony is just as enthusiastic and passionate and now he is jet-set as well, flying between Melbourne and Bali and discovering new things. Anthony brings his knowledge of the kitchen as well as Mediterranean flavours to the food he is now working with, and he has loved discovering local produce and flavours as well. One of the things we talked about at The Hellenic House Project was Anthony's love of service, so he has had to learn how to deal with not being on the tools in this role. It is always such a pleasure to catch up with chefs I have spoken to in the past and see what they are up to, and I absolutely enjoyed seeing Anthony again. It is really beginning to seem as though I should be in Bali talking to chefs, so just to put that out into the universe, I am definitely keen!

Saturday Morning with Jack Tame
Bob Campbell: Wine - 2022 Thornbury Pinot Gris, Waipara

Saturday Morning with Jack Tame

Why I chose it:  - Pinot Gris is to wine what mashed potatoes is to cuisine – a bit taken for granted. It's a comfort wine, a crowd pleaser that is quietly growing both locally and internationally.  - This is classic example – smooth textured and pleasingly fruity – seductively easy to drink.  - Pinot Gris falls into two categories: Lusciously intense wines in the style of the French wines from Alsace and the leaner, drier and often tangy wines Pinot Grigio from Italy. (both are made from pinot gris grapes). This follows the French model.  What does it taste like?  - Attractive floral/honeysuckle aromas and flavours suggesting ripe pear, nectarine and peach with a subtle spicy influence. The wine has a nice sweet/sour balance with some pleasing tension.  Why it's a bargain:  - A lot of bang for a high quality wine priced at around $15  Where can you buy it?  - The Good Wine Co., Auckland $13.99, Vino Fino, Chch $13.99 and Wine Freedom Ltd, Otago $13.99  Food match?  - Quite a versatile food wine, my favourite match is onion tart. The sweetness in the onions matches the subtle sweetness in the wine.  Will it keep?  - Drink up. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Les Thornbury is a documentarian and astute student of nature and people, in other words, of life. After time spent in Vietnam aboard a "wallowing, wood-hulled minesweeper," he retuned home in 1972 and borrowed an old, spring wound Bolex film camera. He wrote and then made a documentary of the Currituck Banks along the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  A second film about the NC Coastal Area Management Act followed. Both were televised statewide and Les' fate was sealed. After graduating from college, Mary Thornbury, alongside a long a successful career in Human Resources, joined Les in many assignments for filming profiles of the distinguished recipients of the North Carolina Awards, the highest honor bestowed across numerous areas for individuals in North Carolina. This married couple have one adult son, David. While officially retired, they are migrating back into the documentary world, this time taking advantage of the many technological advances that are captured within the Android phone that Les holds in his hand. They are doing profiles on seniors and their varied artistic pursuits. They're in the early stages of this latest engagement of their lifelong passion. We will share updates on these profiles as they become available. Join us for this wonderful conversation!  Support the showHave comments or questions for us? We're back, again! Jeez, we spend a lot time not recording this podcast. Anyway, you get what you're given. If you want more, become a Patreon! This Patch opens with Dion telling us about his recent trip to Texas and a close call with a tornado. We then discuss people who think they're cool for not liking nature and using TikTok to follow live events. Christian then recalls a time that he went for dinner with a couple of friends who refused to start eating until his meal arrived. Is this considered polite? Should you prioritise letting your food go cold above everyone starting to eat at the same time? Can you at least start with a couple of chips? We then talk about expecting cold meals through meal delivery services and Dion and Christian harmonise over a Thornbury pizza shop. Dion doesn't wait for his Mum to sit down for dinner; Christian's Nonna refuses to ever sit down. Josh then asks Dion and Christian a very important question - what's your end to end approach to dipping a full bowl of chips into a very small bowl of sauce? Will you ever decide to not sauce a chip so that other chips may be fully loaded? Why are wedges always served with so much sauce? Finally, we discuss whether you need to acknowledge a stranger who is walking by you on the street. Josh surprises them with a mini “Hi”, Christian pretends he doesn't see them and Dion still has no idea. Josh decides whether movement on an aeroplane is a shimmy, a shuffle or a slide past. Christian then completely loses the plot over someone saying “hey stranger” to him and Dion and Josh try to calm him down.       We also play Oh Wow and Time To Think Follow us on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Twitter and Facebook to see clips from the show: linktr.ee/welcometopatchwork For a couple of dollars a month you can sign up to our Patreon page and get a bonus Patch every off week! Got a question for the trio? - https://zfrmz.com/uLtjhyBskV96PY6eJfaI https://propertyplanning.com.au/propertyplannerbuyerprofessor/ In this week's episode Dave, Cate and Pete take you through: 1. Listener questions This episode is dedicated to answering questions we've received from our listeners. If you've got a burning question that you'd like to ask the trio, submit your question online here. (AML to add in the link) 2. Can I access the First Home Owner Grant if my partner has already accessed government assistance? My question is, if I'm buying a property on my own but am living with my partner who has bought a property and received the First Home Buyer Assistance Scheme (transfer duty reduction) already, can I also still qualify for a first home owner grant myself? 3. How do partners and de facto relationships impact eligibility requirements? The trio discuss the Victorian SRO criteria for receiving the First Home Owners Grant and how partners must be disclosed on applications, even if they will not be on the property title. But what if your finances are separate, can a government still find out? Tune in for the answer 4. Is there a way you can get around it? The trio discuss a potential pathway to explore in order to receive the grant. However, take note! It's best to run the scenario by the SRO or a professional for their advice and don't forget to get it in writing. 5. Is now a good time to subdivide and build our dream home? We owned a unit in Thornbury and purchased an entry point house in Reservoir during the pandemic. The block is 536m2 and we are looking at subdividing the block and building a 3br townhouse at the back to live in as our family home (2 young daughters). I would like to explore whether the next 12 months would be a good time to commence the planning and building process for the back town house or whether the current climate with building materials and inflation mean it's a bad time to subdivide and build? 6. As with any major decision, ensure that you are thinking about the longer-term In true Property Planner style, David poses some key questions to our listeners about their long-term lifestyle plans and understanding how a subdivision and family home fits into the overall plan. “How long will this home meet your lifestyle needs? “, “Are you sure you will be happy living in the back property for 5 to 10 years if that is required from a financial standpoint? “, and “Will you enjoy living next to your tenants?“ are just to name a few questions to ask. 7. What are your thoughts on Point Cook as a location? I'm curious about the neighbourhood Point Cook in Melbourne. It seems to have plenty of amenity and has been suggested as a future 2nd CBD hub for Melbourne in some articles I came across. I also think it's great that it's one of the most multicultural neighbourhoods in Australia. What are your thoughts on it as a neighbourhood to live in. Are there any areas you find better than others? 8. Investment and lifestyle analysis for Point Cook If our listener loves Point Cook as a home and community, then that's enough reason to purchase a home there. However, Cate shares some key points for Point Cook which could make it a problematic investment. Visit the show notes - https://propertyplanning.com.au/listener-questions-bought-off-the-plan-my-situation-rates-the-market-is-worse-i-need-the-fhog-but-moved-in-with-my-partner-help-is-it-a-good-time-to-subdivide-suburb-analysis-and-mo/
