This Is The Life" "Mr Rock & Roll" "Slow It Down" "Poison Prince"
We tend to think of heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer's as separate problems. But what if they all stem from the same underlying process? On this episode of The Dr. Hyman Show, I sit down with Dr. Eric Verdin, whose research, including work on compounds like urolithin A, is helping reshape how we think about aging and long-term health. We explore why aging may be the biggest driver of chronic disease and what that means for how you approach your health. Watch the full conversation on YouTube, or listen wherever you get your podcasts. We unpack: • How your immune system becomes both overactive and less effective over time • What chronic inflammation is doing inside your body and how to start bringing it back into balance • Why cellular energy and mitochondrial health are key to repair and recovery • How your microbiome shapes inflammation, immunity, and long-term health • The daily habits that impact longevity most and where people get it wrong This conversation reflects a shift in how we think about health, moving beyond treating disease to understanding what's driving it in the first place. How flipped seats are shaping the response to federal immigration enforcement — A conversation with Sarah Curmi of States Win From lawsuits to new legislation, states are beginning to push back on federal immigration enforcement in ways that were once unthinkable. This shift isn't happening in a vacuum. Since the last election, Democrats have flipped 30 state legislative seats—changing who holds power in key chambers across the country. In this episode, Sarah Curmi of States Win explains how those gains are translating into policy—and why state legislatures may be the most important political battleground right now. In this follow-up episode to my episode #50 from 5 years ago, I discuss the necessity of slowing down from time to time. This week, I was forced to slow down, because as I've said many times on this podcast, since I didn't slow myself down, my body did for me- by getting me sick! I give examples from media, including Parks and Rec (a TV show from the early 2000's) and Kiki's Delivery Service (an old Hayao Miyazaki movie from the 80's) and from my own life, of my kid learning to tie his shoes after going to sleep one night, about the necessity of just slowing it down sometimes. In all these cases, slowing down/stopping what they were trying to do led them to 1) be more productive (in the case of Leslie Knope) and come up with 10,000 ideas, 2) learn to tie his shoes (in the case of my son) overnight while sleeping and 3) re-teach herself how to literally fly (on a broom) for Kiki the witch in Kiki's Delivery Service! Action item: in whatever big or small way you can, give yourself a rest this week. Read a book and drink a cup of tea for 15 minutes, listen to a song and dance in your kitchen, take a sick day or a week off (if you have spring break) or just go to bed early and don't get that last work thing or those dishes washed one time. Whatever you have the capacity to do, big or small, will help you to remember that this, right now, is your life. Don't let it pass you by! See you all back here in 2 weeks after I take a short break as well!
Leveling Up: Creating Everything From Nothing with Natalie Jill
What if the reason time feels like it is speeding up has nothing to do with getting older, and everything to do with how you are living? In this episode of Midlife Conversations, we sit down with world-class event coordinator Jessie Schwartzburg for an energizing and practical conversation about taking time to enjoy your time in midlife. Jessie has spent decades designing unforgettable experiences for high-profile clients, bucket-list travel groups, and corporate powerhouses, and her brain works in a way that will genuinely change how you think about your days. We explore why our brains create such vivid memories during new experiences, how small intentional touches can transform an ordinary moment into something people talk about for years, and what it actually takes to stop feeling like life is passing you by. Jessie also breaks down her personal formula for structuring any day or any trip around the four things she believes are the secret to a long, vibrant life: movement, learning, adventure, and connection. You will walk away with practical, immediately actionable ideas, from planning a memorable birthday lunch to finally booking that group trip you have been putting off. This one is a genuine reset for how you are choosing to spend your time in midlife.
Grammy-winning artist Miguel joins science historian Jimena Canales for a live taping centered on his song “Nearsight [SID]” from CAOS. What begins as a conversation about a lyric — “slow it down for me” — opens into a wide-ranging exploration of time itself: how it feels to speed up as we age, how music can stretch or compress our experience of the present, and why certain moments seem impossible to hold onto. Drawing on her work on Einstein and Bergson's philosophy of time, Canales helps unpack the tension between measurable, physical time and lived, emotional time — while Miguel reflects on fatherhood, memory, and the urgency behind wanting to slow a fleeting moment. Taped live at the MIT Museum in Cambridge, Massachusetts on February 14, 2026.
In this solo episode, Darin dives into one of the most universal modern experiences: the feeling that time is accelerating. Drawing from neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science, and lived experience, he breaks down why time doesn't actually speed up, but our experience of it radically changes. From the impact of digital distraction and divided attention to the way novelty, memory, aging, and even COVID reshaped our internal sense of time, this episode offers both clarity and agency. Darin shows how reclaiming attention, breaking monotony, and creating richer experiences can give us the feeling of having our time back. What You'll Learn Why time measured by a clock is different from time experienced by the brain How attention, memory, and emotion construct subjective time Why boredom feels slow while flow states feel fast How novelty creates richer memories and longer-feeling lives The role of routine and monotony in time compression How digital technology fragments attention and erases memory Why social media scrolling makes time disappear without satisfaction How COVID disrupted temporal landmarks and distorted time perception Why time feels faster as we age The neuroscience behind memory density and perceived duration Whether time itself is an illusion or a constructed experience Practical ways to slow down your experience of time How breaking routine restores a sense of fullness and presence Why life is measured in experiences, not seconds Chapters 00:00:03 – Welcome to SuperLife and the exploration of time 00:00:32 – Sponsor: TheraSage and frequency-based healing 00:02:16 – Why time feels like it's speeding up 00:03:07 – Measured time vs experienced time 00:03:39 – Subjective time and how the brain constructs duration 00:04:38 – Boredom, flow, and why time feels slow or fast 00:05:20 – Memory density and time compression 00:05:42 – Clock models vs attention and memory models 00:06:13 – Novelty, travel, and rich experiences 00:06:34 – Routine, repetition, and unremarkable days 00:07:21 – Divided attention and disappearing moments 00:07:56 – The digital shift and fragmented attention post-2000 00:08:30 – Micro-stimulation and wasted time 00:09:12 – Why scrolling doesn't equal flow 00:09:46 – Social acceleration and modern life 00:10:25 – COVID as a global experiment in time perception 00:10:55 – Loss of temporal landmarks during lockdown 00:11:57 – Sponsor: Caldera Lab and clean skincare 00:13:39 – Research on monotony and time compression 00:14:40 – Aging, fewer neural events, and faster time 00:15:30 – Childhood vs adulthood time perception 00:16:22 – Is time real or constructed? 00:16:57 – Physics, relativity, and subjective experience 00:17:56 – How to slow down your experience of time 00:18:12 – Novelty, adventure, and memory creation 00:19:00 – Sustained attention vs multitasking 00:19:37 – Breaking monotony in daily life 00:20:06 – Reducing digital distraction 00:20:25 – Enjoying life as a scientific practice 00:20:49 – Time as memory, not seconds 00:21:08 – Gaining agency over your experience of life 00:21:29 – Creating a richer year through experience 00:22:10 – Curiosity, adventure, and Darin's fascination with time 00:23:27 – Closing thoughts and call to action Thank You to Our Sponsors Therasage: Go to www.therasage.com and use code DARIN at checkout for 15% off Caldera Lab: Experience the clinically proven benefits of Caldera Lab's clean skincare regimen and enjoy 20% off your order by visiting calderalab.com/darin and using code DARIN at checkout. Many factors of modern life can make time feel like it's moving faster than it actually is: hustle culture at work, a productivity compulsion at home, over-programmed kids – they're all attempts to get as much as possible out of our time and keep up with the frantic pace of life. But life also has moments where time feels like it's slowing down, or even stops. We know that time can't actually slow down or speed up – but why does it feel like that? The Globe's time use reporter, Zosia Bielski, speaks to The Decibel about why our perception of time can change, what it is about this particular moment that's making us feel so pressed for time and how we can take back control of the pace.Questions? This week we're teaching you how to fish slower than a DMV line in February — without losing your mind — AND we're exposing a wild fact about your electronics: they're not paying into conservation like the rest of your gear. Yup… things are about to get interesting!Winter is here, and if you're still fishing like it's July, you're doing it wrong. This week, the guys break down how to slow your presentations way, WAY down without going insane. We're talking winter pacing, mental hacks, lure choices, and how to keep yourself from turning into a human popsicle out there. Then we get spicy: turns out your fish finder doesn't pay into the conservation excise tax system like rods, reels, and tackle do. Yup — electronics skate right around that Pittman-Robertson/Dingell-Johnson share-the-love arrangement. We talk about why, what it means, whether it should change, and how it affects the resource we all depend on.Add in some laughs, rambling, questionable wisdom, and you've got yourself a textbook Jigs & Bigs episode.Tickets for the 300th Celebration Live/Stream Event (You need a ticket to win giveaway prizes!)https://m.bpt.me/event/6733300Consider supporting the show by using the links below, as always; share this show with your fishy friends!Online
Leddy Hammock Highlights: From the lyrics to "Slow It Down" by Daniel Nahmod: It's time to slow it down. Slow it down. Slow it down now. It's time to take a breath. Take a breath and slow it down. It's time to look around. Look around at where we are now, at what (who) we've become, at where we're headed. It's time to slow it down.

It's the end of May, can you believe it? How many of you have said that to someone recently?! I can't tell you how many times I've heard, “How is it Memorial Day weekend already? Summer? If you'd like to feel that time wasn't going by quite so quickly, you need to listen to this episode! See you there….

On today's episode of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's "Politically Georgia" podcast, Greg Bluestein makes his way home from New Hampshire. Bluestein discusses Donald Trump's convincing win in New Hampshire. Bluestein describes Nikki Haley's response to finishing a distant second. What will she do next? AJC Washington correspondent Tia Mitchell, AP politics reporter Meg Kinnard and political analyst Rick Dent join the discussion.
