Courtville recently displayed at an incredible antiques fair in the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York and our very own Alyce got to check out an exhibition of one of the most prestigious art deco artists while on her travels.  Tamara de Lempicka had a fascinating life, one that has now been made into a broadway musical. We rarely get a chance to talk about psychedelics on the Radio Juxtapoz podcast, but we are jumping right into the ether now. In conjunction with the Outsider Art Fair 2022 and their 30th anniversary, Radio Juxtapoz sat down with Psychedelic Solution founder, Jacaeber Kastor, artist Fred Tomaselli and writer Carlo McCormick for a special conversation around the fair's exhibit, Field Trip: Psychedelic Solution, 1986-1995. Kastor was a pivotal figure in transforming the way we look at psychedelic art, from collectability, viability and historical precedent. Through Psychedelic Solution in NYC, he brought so many psychedelic artists to prominence, from poster artists to musicians, Rick Griffin to Giger, comics to just the best trip you will ever see on canvas. Alongside Tomaselli and McCormick, the three talk about their own experiences with psychedelics, how these types of art practices have an almost folkloric history and what the OAF will present from March 3—6, 2022 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in NYC. If there was ever a piece of art history that Juxtapoz likes to know more about, its Outsider Art. We could always use a crash-course, a 101 if you will, on the genre and its place in what know about not only outsider cultures in general, but creating artwork with no knowledge of the structures of the art world. From the Jean Dubuffet coining the term Art Brut in the 1940s to Roger Cardinal in the 1970s bringing the term "Outsider Art" to prominence, there has been an enduring if not increasingly complicated relationship between the genre and the institutional art world. Can Outsider Art remain, well, Outsider, when shown in museums and placed into the history books? Today on Radio Juxtapoz, we talk to gallerist and curator, Andrew Edlin, not only of his namesake gallery on the Lower East Side but the owner of the increasingly influential and popular Outsider Art Fair, taking place in NYC from January 16-19, 2020 at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Part 1 of 2 covering Play NYC happening at the Metropolitan Pavilion this weekend hosted by Playcrafting! Hell of a day. For now I just want to cover some big stuff. No recaps of games (don't worry) or anything, just giving a big shoutout to Playcrafting and Decoy Games. I had the honor of participating in Decoy Games first ever Unleash Cup. It was a great day. Even though I will not be giving a play by play of the tourney, I do have some words to share and feelings to express. It was a great event and I am happy to have a chance to share it today. Seeing as it is Saturday, we will be having a Part 2 coming out that will be a recap and cover all the games I got to play at Play NYC. I saw some familiar faces and met new ones. Christina Ha joins Stacy again (having been interviewed by Stacy in CCP episode 144 and episode 245), this time to discuss the third annual Cat Camp event, to be held this June 1 and 2 in New York City at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Christina, who is one of the co-founders of Meow Parlour cat café, founded Cat Camp in 2017 as a resource for the many people who were asking her about how they could help cats and learn more about them.   Cat Camp is for anyone who likes cats, whether you’re a cat owner who wants to learn more about your pet, a shelter or rescue worker or volunteer, or just someone who thinks Cat Camp sounds interesting. Basically, Christina tells Stacy, “If you love cats, we’ll have something for you this weekend.”   In past years, between 2,000 and 3,000 people have attended Cat Camp each year, and this year looks like it will be just as well attended, with people from 30 states and 9 countries having already purchased tickets. This year’s speakers include many previous CCP guests, including Jackson Galaxy, “Kitten Lady” Hannah Shaw, Nikki Martinez, and Dr. Mikel Delgado, plus many more.   This year, Cat Camp is really “leaning in” to the “camp” theme, with speakers (aka “camp counselors”) also holding small-scale “counseling” sessions on more in-depth topics. Attendees will be able to ask the experts directly about the topics at hand. Understandably, these sessions sold out immediately!   Cat Camp will also have tons of vendors this year, with offerings from jewelry to veterinary advice. In addition, Meow Parlour will be setting up an onsite cat café at the event for the first time. Cat Camp has also partnered with ASPCA this year to offer TNR certification during the event.
