Oh, you don't have to. It's just the question I ask at the beginning of every episode of… The Paul Leslie Hour, a show that's been going strong for 19 years. How are ya? This particular show is something very special. Mailboat Records recording artist, singer and entertainer Nadirah Shakoor came into the studio to talk about her record, Nod to the Storyteller. She did some great material on the album, including a lot of Jimmy Buffett songs. That album come out on Mailboat Records. Do you have it? Have you heard it? It's a beauty. Many of you know Nadirah Shakoor as one of the great vocalists in Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Bands. There's no telling how many people she has touched with her singing. Now, Nadirah didn't just come in to do an interview. She also sang a few songs, including a couple not on the record. Wait till you hear her performance of “Over the Rainbow,” which she dedicated to Jimmy Buffett. Keep in mind we've got tons of interviews and specials like this that still have yet to come out. They're tucked away in the archives. If you'd like to contribute some dough to keep these efforts going, just go to www.thepaulleslie.com/support and we we thank you. #728 - Sonny Landreth The Sonny Landreth Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour. We've got something exceptional from the archives. This is an interview Paul did with one of the most exceptional musical artists he has ever encountered. It's rare that someone is able to perform at such a high ability in so many ways: as an instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, live shows and on records. Paul has frequently named him as a favorite recording artist for the great sound he gets out of his chosen instrument and his unique vocal styling.  This is an interview with Sonny Landreth, the originally broadcast on the radio in 2008. It's not been heard since the original airplay. The special guest, Sonny Landreth is a master of the slide guitar who joined Paul to talk about his album “From the Reach.” Sonny Landreth is a solo artist, but has worked with greats like John Hiatt, Eric Clapton, and on the road he's also been a frequent guest of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band.  Sonny Landreth discussed his early influences, and recording with the great artists that appeared on From the Reach, people like Mark Knopfler, Eric Johnson, Vince Gill, Eric Clapton, Dr. John, Nadirah Shakoor and Jimmy Buffett. Now that's, but one album in Sonny Landreth's discography. All of his records are really great and worth checking out! You can help The Paul Leslie Hour in our quest to get a lot of content from the archives out there and available to the general public. #518 - Nadirah Shakoor The Nadirah Shakoor Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour. This interview with Ms. Nadirah Shakoor was originally broadcast on the radio and since then has remained in the archives. Nadirah Shakoor is someone who has used her voice to entertain and inspire music fans for her entire life. From being in the group Arrested Development, to writing and recording her own songs and albums, and then her fame as a vocalist in Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band for 26 years now. Whatever project she sings on or whomever she performs with—her voice stands out and is unforgettable. In her life she has recorded with a diverse list of the greats— from Ralph MacDonald, Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau and many others, as well as every Jimmy Buffett studio and live record since 1996. In this interview, I attempted to get a foundation. In I asked about the musical history and background of Nadirah Shakoor and wanted to gain more insight into her personal philosophies. She discusses how her songwriting has changed over the years and how she has changed as an artist. Then she dropped some very big news... the only people who knew were her and Jimmy Buffett. It was as a scoop. She announced she would be recording an album on Mailboat Records, Nod to the Storyteller, which was unprecedented. It was to be a re-interpretations of Jimmy Buffett songs. I've corresponded with Nadirah Shakoor since I was in high school. I wanted to get this interview out there to increase people's awareness of the many facets of her storied and interesting career as an artist. There is only one Nadirah Shakoor. Here she is. In April of 2010, this podcaster set out on a course to be immersed within the pulse of melanated movement,a dark speck of light amongst those sprinkled on southern soil. What was found exceeded my expectations, thus resulting in a host of experiences, friends and memories that have become near and dear to the heart region. The pulse, heartbeat and community of House music lovers in Atlanta became a lifestyle and as a yearly celebration of this culture approaches in a park that I've been in love with for nearly two decades I have been inspired to celebrate it in this mix, done live at Lola in St.Louis. Highlights include Jazzanova, Nadirah Shakoor, Fela Kuti as well as remixes from Osunlade, MAW, and then some and so on...welcome (again) to Mai Haus. Enjoy

Hello and Happy New Year since this is the first instalment in 2011. "Spring came early on Tahrir Square" To make clear this is NOT a political statement as such and I will moderate (delete ;=) any political rant if I were to get any. Furthermore, let me say that for Europeans I would be labelled as a rabid ultra-liberal neo-con and in the States as a pinky liberal socialist softy.. Funny how the word "liberal" takes opposite meanings accross the Atlantic divide. Anyhow, the mix came about when I heard the spontaneous song being broken into on Tahrir Square. It reminded me of what happened in Berlin 20 years ago ( I spent that New Year's in Germany), how hopeful people were and how elated I was to see the change happening in front of me. It turned out to be a change for good, I sincerely hope it will be the same for all the democratic movements in the Middle-East. A technical point, as I have no access to my music library (migrating platform) and no access to my gear, hence my absence since December, this mix was done on a notebook, with ipod headphones, a very limited choice of tools and tracks.. Rough & Raw... But I had to mark the occasion... Deep and a bit dark with a bit of sugar at the end... But with a conscience ;=) Intro Dubya 2011 Tahrir Square Protesters song (Xtian Butchered Edit) 2010 Snatches (Soul Minority Remix) Karol XVII & MB Valence 2009 Choices (the Layabouts Main Vocal Mix). The Layabouts & Kathy Brown 2008 Deep Beginning (Original mix) [Xtian Political Edit Sample]. Karol XVII, MB Valence 2009 Somewhere in Abha (Original mix) [Xtian Political Edit Sample]. Karol XVII & MB Valence 2009 M U S I C [Xtian Edit]. Lovebirds & Vincenzo 2009 Equilibrium. Karol XVII and MB Valence 2010 Superman (Club mix) [One World Edit] Black Coffee featuring Bucie 2010 Pride (Osunlade's Back to Africa Mix). Osunlade Pres. Mel 2010 Juju (Halo and Atjazz Deeply Minded Mix). Black Coffee Ft Zakes Bantwini 2010 Nights in Africa (The Layabouts Main Vocal Mix) [One World Sample]. Renn Here it is. Raw, rough not particularly current but I do not really mind being back with this. Felt the urge.. Highlights: Snatches & Deep beginning from Karol XVII & MB Valence nice deep house! Superman & Juju are fantastic example of Deep and Soulful House. And I love Osunlade's Pride with amazing vocals from Nadirah Shakoor. Will be back with something fun and current. Be kind to me with this one considering the intention and the absence of any gear..

Hey all, found this old mix digging through old CDs. A mix on the housey side of things, being a big fan of the broken beat scene and the likes of Jazzanova clearly shines through here. Favourites include the deepness of Frank Roger's "Bone of my Bone", the massive Phlash remix of "Stuck" by Peven Everett, an early airing of Dennis Ferrer's remix of "The Cure and The Cause" (going out to Vicky and Agata!), it later charted in 2007 and merited a full release, big tune! Hope you enjoy more retro mixes from myself, I'll maybe get my hands near some turntables to record a new mix soon! Love from Australia!
