Renowned ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro and legendary drummer Mick Fleetwood have teamed up to release a new rendition of the classic "Whiter Shade Of Pale." The single, a reimagining of Procol Harum's iconic song, is the second taste of their highly anticipated collaborative album, set to drop on October 18th via 40 Below Records."Whiter Shade Of Pale" has long been regarded as a timeless classic, and now, in the hands of these two iconic musicians, it takes on a new life. The collaboration marries Jake Shimabukuro's masterful ukulele playing with Mick Fleetwood's dynamic drumming, creating a soundscape that is both haunting and uplifting. Mick Fleetwood shares his excitement about the project: "This is a song I've always wanted to play… of course, the song recorded by Procol Harum was a world-renowned classic… with a melody so strong that it became a gift to us! And Jake totally commands the full need for dynamics and a passionate delivery. At last, I got to play and record this song!!!" Jake Shimabukuro reflects on the collaboration: "This was a song that Mick suggested. Such an iconic piece of music. It truly plays like an anthem. And Mickʻs drumming makes the track feel amazing. I was just transported through his drum sounds." The upcoming album, Blues Experience, promises to be a powerful fusion of their distinct musical styles, blending Jake's innovative approach to the ukulele with Mick's legendary rhythm. Fans can look forward to an album that pushes boundaries while honoring the timeless quality of the music they both cherish. Joining Shimabukuro and Fleetwood on the album are bassist Jackson Waldhoff and keyboard player Michael Grande. Special guest Mark Johnstone from The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band also lends his keyboard prowess to "Need Your Love So Bad" and "Rockin' In The Free World." Over two intense three-day sessions, the band recorded nine tracks live in the studio, with Sonny Landreth contributing slide guitar to the Jeff Beck/Stevie Wonder classic "Cause We've Ended As Lovers." Blues Experience promises to be a landmark release. It combines the formidable talents of Jake Shimabukuro and Mick Fleetwood with fresh, innovative interpretations of blues classics. Fans can expect a bold and forward-looking album that is deeply rooted in tradition.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Jake Shimabukuro, one of the most exceptional and innovative uke players in the history of the instrument, joins host Janeane on Outside the Box.On November 12th, 2021, the acclaimed Hawai'i-born ‘ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro will release ‘Jake & Friends,' his most creatively ambitious project to-date, featuring collaborations with a who's who of music royalty, from Willie Nelson and Bette Midler to Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Loggins. In terms of size and scope and considering the sheer number of legendary stars who graciously loaned their inimitable talents to the project, ‘Jake & Friends' can only be compared to other benchmark duets albums by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, a shining testament to just how far the singularly gifted Jake has come. Listen to the album's first two singles, “Two High,” featuring Moon Taxi, and “Stardust,” featuring Willie Nelson.Jake's own head spins when looking over his high-wattage guest list featured on the album - Willie Nelson, Bette Midler, Jimmy Buffett, Moon Taxi, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Vince Gill and Amy Grant, Jon Anderson, Ziggy Marley, Warren Haynes, Jack Johnson, Jesse Colin Young, Ray Benson & Asleep at the Wheel, Sonny Landreth, Lukas Nelson, Billy Strings. “I have to pinch myself when I see those names on my own album,” he says. “It's like, ‘Did that really happen?' Making the album was a real challenge, but I'm deeply honored that all of the artists agreed to record with me.”Over the past two decades, Jake has proved that there isn't a style of music that he can't play. While versatility for any musician is impressive, what's remarkable about Jake's transcendent skills is how he explores his seemingly limitless vocabulary – whether it's jazz, rock, blues, bluegrass, folk or even classical – on perhaps the unlikeliest of instruments: the ‘ukulele. Responding to the urgent calls of his fervent imagination, Jake has taken the ‘ukulele to points previously thought impossible, and in the process he's reinvented the applications for this tiny, heretofore underappreciated four-string instrument, causing many to call him “the Jimi Hendrix of the ‘ukulele.”

W muzycznym podsumowaniu marca mówimy o Ukrainie oraz o inspirującym Andriy`u Khlyvnyuk`u, śpiewającym z ulic Kijowa. Zespoły Kraków Street Band, Blue Rumble i All Them Witches wydały znakomite nagrania, a wieść, że Rod Stewart reperuje drogi asfaltowe ubawiła nas w sposób szczególny :) EDIT: Kilka sprostowań bo są konieczne!Płytę Toma Waitsa “Like It`s 1999” nagrano w The Orpheum Theatre w Vancouver w Kanadzie. Był natomiast permanentnym członkiem Screaming Trees i Queens of The Stone Age.PS. Smutna wiadomość o śmierci perkusisty Foo Fighters, Taylora Hawkinsa, przyszła już po nagraniu tego odcinka Pick Please! Charyzmatyczny muzyk zmarł w Bogocie, 25 marca 2022. Welcome to More Christ, where we seek to bring some of the world's most interesting and insightful guests to discuss life's central and abiding questions. In this thirty eighth episode in a series of discussions, I'm joined by the magnificent Mike Aquilina. Mike Aquilina is a popular author working in the area of Church history, especially patristics, the study of the early Church Fathers. He is executive vice-president and trustee of the St. Paul Centre for Biblical Theology, a Roman Catholic research centre based in Steubenville, Ohio. He is a contributing editor of Angelus (magazine) and general editor of the Reclaiming Catholic History Series from Ave Maria Press. He hosts Way of the Fathers, a podcast produced by CatholicCulture.org. Aquilina is the author or editor of more than sixty books, including The Fathers of the Church (2006); The Mass of the Early Christians (2007); The Resilient Church (2007); Living the Mysteries (2003); and What Catholics Believe (1999). His books have been translated into many languages, from Croatian and Portuguese to German and Braille. The Grail Code has appeared in ten languages since its publication in 2006. Critics have praised Aquilina's work for making the Fathers accessible to non-academic readers: "Most scholars … study the paper trail — homilies, letters, teaching manuals, works of theological disputation … Aquilina loves the words, too. But he also finds the sermon in the stuff, the theology expressed in the little things that the first Christians left behind — fading murals on catacomb walls, pottery and dishware, pieces of coinage, ancient hymns and Mass prayers, common household items … The point is that for Aquilina, the little things matter — because they tell us big things about what Catholics believe and how they look at the world." Dr. John Grondelski said in the National Catholic Register: "Aquilina has made a vocation and career out of, in many ways, single-handedly popularizing patristics." Aquilina's 2015 book Ministers and Martyrs was an official companion volume to the NBC series A.D. The Bible Continues. A year later he published The World of Ben-Hur as a guide to MGM's remake of the Lew Wallace classic Ben-Hur. Aquilina is also a poet and songwriter. His poems, collected in the volumes Terms and Conditions (2014) and The Invention of Zero (2020), have appeared in U.S. literary journals and in Polish and Spanish translations. His collaborations with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame artist Dion DiMucci include one book (Dion: The Wanderer Talks Truth) and three albums, Tank Full of Blues (2012), New York Is My Home (2016), and Blues with Friends (2020). The title song of New York Is My Home was recorded as a duet by Dion and Paul Simon, launched by Rolling Stone magazine, and released as a single in 2015. It was used in episode 5, season 1, of the drama series “Horace and Pete.” It was also chosen by clothing designer Ralph Lauren as the catwalk theme for his 50th-anniversary show in 2018. The song appears as well in the Deluxe Edition of Paul Simon's album Stranger to Stranger. Dion's 2020 album Blues with Friends, which included twelve songs co-written with Aquilina, debuted at Number 1 on Billboard and U.K. charts and was Billboard's Number 1 Blues Album for 2020. American Songwriter magazine honored “Song for Sam Cooke,” a single from Blues with Friends, as “Greatest of the Great 2020 Songs.” DiMucci-Aquilina songs have also been recorded or performed by Van Morrison, Jeff Beck, Amy Grant, Christy Altomare, Joe Bonamassa, Steven Van Zandt, Brian Setzer, Joe Louis Walker, Billy F. Gibbons, Rory Block, John P. Hammond, Sonny Landreth, and Samantha Fish. Bob Dylan praised these songs for their craft.

He's toured with his band, Chris Daniels & The Kings for 37 years. He's backed up artists like Bonnie Raitt, Garth Brooks, and Sonny Landreth. He's had a record produced by Al Kooper. He's been signed to record labels overseas. The list goes on... I first met Chris during my freshman year of college at CU Denver. He was my music business professor. He was a great teacher of course, but we connected on a deeper level through a mutual appreciation of similar music. In my senior year, I asked him if I could do an independent study with him called, "How To Release A Record." He taught it to me, and gave me three credits for the course! After I graduated, Chris started a similar class for seniors that he said was created because of our independent study. How cool! In 2017, Chris and I collaborated on my full-length record, Reasons For Departure. He produced it! My guest today is Mr. Sonny Landreth. Sonny is a singer, songwriter and guitarist who is probably the most innovative slide guitar player ever. I first got hip to Sonny when I got a copy of his record called Outward Bound, which is still one of my favorite records of his. He's had a very long and successful career as a solo artist with many solo records to his name including the recent- “Recorded Live in Lafayette” which we talk about in this podcast.  I've known Sonny for a while but in this interview I learn many things about his early years and it was a lot of fun to ask him all this stuff. We talk about his meeting Hendrix, early influences, how he got his Dumble amp, Clifton Chenier, getting the gig with John Hiatt, so much more….oh and he shares a lot of slide secrets in this one. Also there is a lot of playing and equipment chat for you gear nerds.  I drove out to Lafayette, La about 2 hours west of New Orleans on a weekday and got stuck in traffic so I was a little late getting to the studio. I finally walk in to engineer Tony Daigle's studio where Sonny records most of his records (and where I recorded the overdubs for my tune Mr. Ed with Sonny from my record Dirty Power. I plug into one of Tony's Fender deluxes and Sonny is plugged into an old Fender Bassman and we let it rip.   How does someone from Breaux Bridge, LA by way of Mississipi become the most original slide guitar player on the planet? My guest today is Mr. Zachary Richard.  Songwriter, performer, poet, activist.  Zachary is like a "Cajun- renaissance" man, who has never ceased promoting and educating others about the French identity of South Louisiana and his Cajun heritage. Beginning his career in the early 1970's up to now- with almost 25 albums to his name, Grammy nominations, 3 volumes of poetry and even children's books, he remains a prolific and passionate artist. (And as you'll hear Zachary has had some great guitarists and musicians in his bands, among them Sonny Landreth and Bill Dillon.)  As you'll hear in this interview, Zachary is also a very soulful singer, and puts his heart into all his lyrics and song ideas. In this episode, Zachary discusses songwriting, his Cajun heritage, guitars, and we also play a few songs together. This episode of the Riff Raff was recorded in the front parlor of my home in New Orleans, LA on a beautiful day on June 4, 2017.                                                                                                                                                      (photo by Shiho Theriot) LINKS  Zachary Richard- Live at Montreal Jazz Festival- (with David Torkanowsky, keys, Yolanda Robinson, BGV, Paul Picard, percussion, Shane Theriot, guitars.) My guest today is Mr. George Porter Jr. George is best known for being the bassist for the “architects of funk” - The Meters, the funkiest band to ever come out of New Orleans and, for that matter, anywhere. His basslines get under your skin and won't let go. Along with Zigaboo Modeliste on drums, Art Neville on keys and Leo Nocentelli on guitar, The Meters invented a type of funk that has been widely copied (and sampled) for many years now.  The day this interview took place I was back in New Orleans recording on a couple of projects, and we just happened to be on one session together. I've known George for years and I mentioned how I started this podcast and wanted to interview him while I was in town for a few days. Knowing I was short on time, George graciously suggested that we do it that night after the session.  In the interview I ask George about his influences, what he looks for in a drummer, trivial questions on various Meters folklore, why Paul McCartney said George was his favorite bass player, Allen Toussaint sessions, the proper way to play “Cissy Strut”, unison guitar/bass lines, etc…OH…and we play a lot of stuff together. Hope you enjoy.  Recorded at the Parlor Studio, New Orleans, LA - Feb 2016. On a session- L to R- Shane Theriot (guitar), George Porter Jr. (bass), Johnny Vidacovich (drums) and Sonny Landreth (slide guitar) Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-riff-raff-with-shane-theriot/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Roadhouse

The 538th Roadhouse takes one set to venture into some new territory, but it's all blues at its root. Jackson Mud, Papa Mali, Sonny Landreth, Clay Shelburn, and Jeff Jensen really step up in this edtion. Looking through the playlist for the hour, I have no doubt at all about two things: that the 538th Roadhouse is another hour of the finest blues, and that it's another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.
