In this special New Year episode, Jenny and Toni sit down to reflect on a year that felt both impossibly long and shockingly fast. 2025 brought duality, growth, intentional rest, and some of the most meaningful work in PATHPod history. Together, they revisit the moments, conversations, and collaborations that shaped the year — and share a glimpse of what's ahead for 2026.Highlights from Our 2025 Journey Two major PATH retreats — thoughtfully designed, deeply restorative, and filled with community, creativity, and courage. A season of intentional simplification — fewer episodes, more space, and a renewed commitment to “allowing” rather than over‑doing. Behavior‑change in real time — how trimming, focusing, and negotiating priorities mirrored the work we guide our clients through. Solo episodes from Campbell — Toni's community‑rooted conversations during a season when both hosts were navigating big family milestones. Trademarking PATH Positive Approaches to Health — a huge milestone that stretched both hosts into new, uncomfortable, and empowering territory. A powerful fall lineup — inspiring guests, innovative approaches, and rich conversations that carried us through the last quarter of the year. Teaching Kitchen Collaborative SymposiumJenny and Toni share reflections from the December Teaching Kitchen Collaborative Symposium at 1440 Multiversity — a gathering filled with innovation, systems‑level thinking, and a deep sense of community. Key themes included: The expanding role of teaching kitchens in healthcare and community settings Collaboration across chefs, clinicians, educators, and policy leaders Sustainability, resourcefulness, and redefining what a “teaching kitchen” can be Reconnecting with past PATHPod guests and forging new partnerships Celebrating Our GuestsFrom Dr. Jessica's spotlight episode to the inspiring conversation with Maggie Doyne, the final months of 2025 delivered some of the most meaningful stories and strategies we've shared on PATHPod.Music, Metaphors & MeaningAs always, Toni brings her signature soundtrack — songs that capture the spirit of the year, the joy of collaboration, and the magic of showing up. From Phil Collins to Roberta Flack to Broadway classics, the playlist becomes a playful, heartfelt reflection of the PATHPod journey.Looking Ahead to 2026The new year brings a fresh theme, new energy, and another “opening of another show.” With seasons, seasoning, and the ongoing evolution of PATHPod, Jenny and Toni step into 2026 with gratitude, curiosity, and a renewed commitment to helping listeners build their own positive approaches to health.

Wesley has a practice as a new year begins of saying goodbye to those who won't be coming with us. He could have easily done an episode on any number of household names. He could have done the same with people who weren't the biggest names, yet still loomed large for many. But out of all the artists who passed in 2025, Wesley decides to dedicate time to Roberta Flack. The critic and scholar Daphne A. Brooks, a friend of Wesley's, joins him to reflect on treasured moments in Flack's music. They reminisce on the powerful range of her discography, the quiet it kept and the fire it sparked in others.Thoughts? Note: This episode was recorded in October and released a little later than expected — thanks for your patience. In this soulful and reflective episode of Messy Truths, Mar, Nesha, and Azar come together to honor the legendary voices we've lost over the past couple of years—musicians whose music shaped generations and shifted culture. Nesha opens the tribute by remembering the legendary singer and pianist, Roberta Flack, celebrating her timeless voice and the vulnerability she brought to every note. This episode was sparked by the heartbreaking passing of D'Angelo. The trio dives deep into the legacy he leaves behind and the seismic influence he had on Neosoul, R&B, and the culture at large. Naturally, the conversation also turns to the incomparable Angie Stone, whose imprint on music remains undeniable. Together, the hosts pay homage to other musical giants we've lost, including malletKat Pro vibraphone master Roy Ayers, visionary producer and composer Quincy Jones, and D'Wayne Wiggins, co-founding member of Tony! Toni! Toné!, whose artistry helped define the R&B sound of Oakland, California and beyond the Bay Area. Join us as we reflect on the artists whose music raised and moved us. Big Fat Five: A Podcast Financially Supported by Big Fat Snare Drum
Welcome back to Drummers on Drumming. This is another installment of Big Fat Five—the series where I sit down with my favorite drummers and ask them to break down the five records that shaped how they approach the kit. Lately I've been fortunate to have guests who've already appeared in other drummers' Big Fat Fives, and today's guest is one of them: Terry Silverlight. Terry's career is so deep and wide-ranging that I almost don't even want to start listing artists. His discography is massive — you can check it out on his website HERE and he's still extremely active today. He was already recording at 14 on his brother Barry Miles' record, and he hasn't slowed down since. Along the way he's worked with everyone from George Benson to Roberta Flack to Natalie Merchant, just to name a few. This episode doesn't veer from the Big Fat Five format, but Terry interleaves the records that shaped him with the way music has been ingrained in his life from day one. I mention this at the top of our chat, but it's worth saying again here — the through-line of music in Terry's story is undeniable. Toward the end, I also ask him about a session that came up in Aaron Steele's episode a while back, when Aaron brought up Terry's work with the band Change. If you haven't heard that one, go back and check it out — Aaron's a young legend in his own right. - Get Your Copy of the Drummers on Drumming Book Today!
Donny Hathaway, born Oct. 1, 1945, in Chicago, became one of the most influential soul voices of the 20th century. From his Grammy-winning collaborations with Roberta Flack to writing the holiday classic “This Christmas,” Hathaway's music remains timeless. Despite his brilliance, he struggled with mental illness and died by suicide in 1979 at only 33 years old. We remember his life, music, and enduring legacy. When Adrián Quesada first heard a song by the Peruvian band Los Pasteles Verdes on the radio, a new artistic world began to take shape. That path led him to compose Boleros Psicodélicos I (2022) and, more recently, its striking follow-up, Boleros Psicodélicos II, released in 2025. During his visit to the KEXP studios in Seattle to record his Live on KEXP session, the Mexican-American musician, composer, and producer—born in the border city of Laredo, Texas—sat down with Albina Cabrera to share the songs that shaped his life. From the vinyl records he discovered during his college years in Austin, to his deep passion for hip hop, and the golden era of salsa and cumbia that inspired him to co-found Grupo Fantasma. Grab your sour-patch straws, stop sour punching your straw, and join us as we slip into the impeccably tailored, morally dubious world of The Man from U.N.C.L.E., where Henry Cavill smirks his way through the Cold War and Armie Hammer glowers in various shades of “angry Russian.” We talk about the opening Berlin chase, the world's suavest tablecloth yank, and why Guy Ritchie clearly decided style was more important than historical accuracy—or sometimes, basic physics. Also, everyone is ridiculously good-looking, and yes, we noticed. Repeatedly. Somewhere between the CIA, the KGB, and whatever Hugh Grant is doing in this movie, there's a plot about nuclear warheads, a fake engagement, and a fashion show that doubles as spycraft. We pick apart the “unlikely partners” dynamic, try to decide if Gaby is the actual MVP, and get distracted by the soundtrack every time Roberta Flack or Nina Simone shows up. (Seriously, this might be the most our Spotify queues have been influenced by a rewatch.) Naturally, we wander into side quests: our rankings of cinematic buddy duos, a brief tangent about how many spy movies would be ruined if the characters had iPhones, and Elise's theory that Cavill's Solo is basically James Bond on a heavy sedative. Somewhere in there we debate who in the group could actually pull off a 1960s double-breasted suit. Spoiler: not all of us. By the end, we're in Istanbul, the team's assembled, and we're low-key mad this stylish mess never got a sequel. If you're into slick visuals, flirty banter, and the occasional implausible stunt involving vintage cars, you might want to give this one another spin—preferably with a drink in hand and your sharpest spy outfit on standby. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1638355

This episode of Across The Margin : The Podcast features an interview with Seattle-based multi-instrumentalist singer, songwriter, and soul innovator Brittany Davis. Originally from Kansas City, Brittany began playing piano and organ at a young age. After relocating to Seattle about a decade ago, their exceptional songwriting caught the attention of Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam, leading to a deal with his label, Loosegroove Records, and the birth of two outstanding albums. Blind since birth, Brittany describes themself as a “vessel of sound,” experiencing music in spirit and colors. To Brittany, everything is an instrument — every sound, object, and moment holds musical potential. Their work spans genres, blending elements of soul, R&B, rock, and hip-hop. Her latest album, a stunner entitled Black Thunder, is the focus of this episode. Black Thunder is a profound, fully improvised, fully realized collection that recalls artists like Nina Simone and Roberta Flack in its immersive, incantatory spirit. Produced by Josh Evans, it features Davis on keys and vocals, Evan Flory-Barnes on bass, and D'Vonne Lewis on drums. The trio — who barely knew each other prior to recording together — improvised Black Thunder in a surge of interactive creativity across two days in the studio. The short window in which to work did away with overthinking and brought each musician's A-game. Steeped in Black and Afrocentric cultural influences, this is Davis's most poignant and cathartic work to date. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
With the release of her latest single, the soulful and sensualromance “You Know What It's Like,” Brenda Russell not only continues to pave the way for her highly anticipated upcoming album Songpainter – her first collection in 20 years – but also makes a triumphant return to the refined classic blend of adult contemporary R&B and urban jazz that launched and defined the trailblazing four and a half decade career of the multi-Grammy nominated singer/songwriter, Tony nominated and Grammy winning Broadway composer for The Color Purple. “You Know What It's Like” is a co-write by the singer and the legendary Roberta Flack. When people assess Brenda's overall career, her success as an artist and with The Color Purple often overshadows the gemsshe wrote that were hits for other artists. Beyond Oleta Adams' “Get Here,” Brenda's gems have been recorded by Luther Vandross (“If Only for One Night”), Donna Summer (“Dinner with Gershwin”), Babyface, The Manhattan Transfer, Patti Austin, Dionne Warwick, Mary J. Blige, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan and Ramsey Lewis. Her tunes have also been sampled by everyone from Janet Jackson and 2Pace to Chance the Rapper and Ariana Grande. In addition, Brenda's co-composition with Brazilian artist Ivan Lins “She Walks This Earth” was recorded by international superstar Sting for the all-star tribute album Love Affair: The Music Of Ivan Lins. Sting's inspired performance of the uniquely beautiful song earned him a Grammy Award in 2001 for Best Pop Male Vocal Performance. Brenda was recently elected into the Female Songwriters Hall of Fame. Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)
We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2017 conversation with Jimmy Webb. ABOUT JIMMY WEBBJimmy Webb emerged as a superstar songwriter and arranger in 1967 when two of his songs – The 5th Dimension's “Up, Up and Away” and Glen Campbell's “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” - were among the five nominees for the Grammy's Song of the Year award. He went on to write a string of major hits for Campbell, including “Wichita Lineman,” “Galveston,” "Where's the Playground Susie,” “Honey Come Back,” and many others. Additionally, he penned “MacArthur Park,” which was a hit for a diverse range of artists, including Richard Harris, Waylon Jennings, Tony Bennett, Andy Williams, and Donna Summer; “The Worst That Could Happen,” which was a Top 5 hit for The Brooklyn Bridge; “Didn't We,” which was recorded by Thelma Houston, Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, and Barbra Streisand; “All I Know,” which became a Top 10 hit for Art Garfunkel; “The Moon's a Harsh Mistress,” which has been recorded by Joe Cocker, Judy Collins, Linda Ronstadt, and Josh Groban; and “If These Walls Could Speak,” which was recorded by Glen Campbell, Amy Grant, Nanci Griffith, and Shawn Colvin. Others who've covered material from the Jimmy Webb songbook include Diana Ross, Dusty Springfield, Nina Simone, The Four Tops, Roberta Flack, The Temptations, The Association, Tom Jones, Dionne Warwick, Cass Elliot, Harry Nilsson, Nancy Wilson, Cher, Bob Dylan, The Everly Brothers, Nick Cave, John Denver, Kenny Rogers, Sheena Easton, David Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Michael Feinstein, R.E.M., Aimee Mann, America, Aretha Franklin, Isaac Hayes, Peggy Lee, Bette Midler, James Taylor, Carrie Underwood, Dwight Yoakam, and The Highwaymen (consisting of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson), who took Jimmy's song “Highwayman” to #1, earning him a Grammy for Country Song of the Year. As an artist, he has released more than a dozen albums. One of the most celebrated songwriters on the planet, Jimmy is the only individual to win Grammy awards for music, lyrics, and orchestration. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Great American Songbook Hall of Fame. Additionally, he has received ASCAP's Lifetime Achievement Award, the Influential Songwriter Award from the National Music Publishers Association, and the Academy of Country Music's prestigious Poets Award. In 2015 he was named among Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time. Jimmy's memoir, The Cake and the Rain, details his formative years and early career through 1973. It's available now from St. Martin's Press.
On this week's episode of You Are What You Read, we are joined by quintessential music maker and founding member of The Four Seasons, Bob Gaudio. Bob's career in music started at a young age. At the age of 15, he co-wrote his first hit, "Who Wears Short Shorts," for a group he started, The Royal Teens. His song, "Sherry," in the early '60s, launched The Four Seasons' incredible string of hits. At the time, he also began a productive and creative relationship with Bob Crewe, a teaming that produced an amazing run of hits for The Four Seasons, including "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Rag Doll," "Walk Like a Man," "Bye Bye Baby," "Silence Is Golden," and in 1967, Frankie Valli's classic, "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You." Gaudio also produced and co-wrote with his wife, Judy Parker, "Who Loves You," for The Four Seasons and Billboard Magazine's longest-charting single (54 weeks), "December '63 (Oh, What a Night)." Bob has collaborated with Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra, and has produced albums for Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Roberta Flack, Barry Manilow, Peabo Bryson and The Beach Boys, to cite just a few. This is a conversation about Bob's greatest hits- the songs we will be tuning up this summer! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
