In order for your marketing to be effective, you've got to market to the right people—you have to define your avatar. And a great way to do that is to start with data: Who's actually coming into gyms these days? Nathan Holiday, founder of Level Method, has the numbers. Here, he and Two-Brain Business founder Chris Cooper discuss who's interested in trying fitness programs like CrossFit (and who's not) and how to use that information to build the most effective marketing, onboarding, and delivery systems targeted to that audience.Links:Level MethodGym Owners UnitedTimeline:1:00 – What the data tell us about who's coming to the gym.4:25 – What two-thirds of people coming into your gym look like.9:49 – Business implications: onboarding.12:57 – Business implications: avatars.16:23 – Business implications: marketing.19:44 – Direct marketing with Level Method.

After coming back from deployment with the US Army in 2008, Holiday began his functional fitness career. He sustained an injury to his Achilles in 2011 while training for The Games that diverted his path from athletic self-mastery to one of service in 2011. He explored the teachings of world philosophies, religions, nutrition, and modern sciences and dove head first into coaching and business development. There, he was confronted with the common challenges of athletes plateauing in their progress and/or sustaining injuries plus, not to mention member retention, acquisition and staff disengagement issues on the business side. After a few challenging years, several a-ha moments, and thousands of hours of research and development, he and his business partner Sean Buck created a system for gyms who are unwilling to compromise on the quality and integrity of their service. Level Method taps into a powerful emotional connection between members, their gym community, and their collective pursuit of excellence. “The core of everything we do at Level Method is predicated on the concept of long-term, sustained health, and wellness of both the athlete and the gym businesses,” says Holiday. “Our growth isn't due to flashy marketing and big budgets. It's because it actually works, we've obsessively created something so many gym owners, coaches, and athletes have a need for. We give it our all.” Enjoy the show!
Nathan Holiday created the Level Method in 2016 to solve big problems within the functional fitness group-based model. He started as an athlete, transitioned to coaching, and then opened a gym in 2012. This episode goes over the origins of Level Method, a few behind-the-scenes stories, and a dive into leveraging systems. This week I had Nathan Holiday, founder of Level Method on with me to talk about building systems around your gyms workout programming. Many gyms just look at programming as the end game. As the sole fulfillment piece of their offering. When done right, programming itself can be a powerful tool for ascension, retention and differentiation in your market. In this podcast we dissect program, not from an exercise perspective, but from a systems perspective and how it can be used to run your gym better, provide better service and scale to higher levels of revenue. It's a pattern you know well: A client starts at your gym, makes progress and is committed and enthusiastic. But after a while, the progress slows. The enthusiasm fizzles. So how do you keep clients engaged for the long haul? That's just one of the things Nathan Holiday designed the Level Method to accomplish. This systematic approach to assessment and goal setting incentivizes clients to stay the course by pairing quantifiable metrics of progress with goal setting and accountability. Here, Nathan joins Chris Cooper to talk about how the program can help clients get better results and help gym owners improve client retention.Links:Level MethodAGuardWodifyRegister for the Two-Brain Summit 2020Timeline:1:06 – Why test skills if a client doesn’t care about them?2:23 – The value of regular assessments.6:01 – Connecting long-term goals to short-term achievements.10:50 – Systematizing ongoing assessment.15:18 – The bridge between assessment and results.19:04 – Structuring assessment: global vs. individual reviews.24:06 – How often should you test?28:07 – How to get clients to do goal reviews.

We talk with Nathan Holiday, founder of The Level Method (https://www.levelmethod.com/) and talk about how layering on a color belt system to CrossFit helps beginners understand that there are progressions for different areas of fitness and also helps CrossFitters WANT to work on their weaknesses.
Unfortunately, a communication blunder on my part didn't get this podcast out in time before the SELF MADE SUMMIT - but regardless it's an awesome piece with Nathan Holiday, the founder of the Level Method and myself on how to create a new and unique class experience for someone who wants group strength & conditioning. https://www.levelmethod.com/
Keep More Members, Distinguish Yourself & Deliver More Value with Nathan Holiday, owner of The Level Method.
After coming back from deployment with the US Army in 2008, Holiday began his functional fitness career. He sustained an injury to his Achilles in 2011…
Nathan Holiday is the owner of Level Method Gym in Lake Forest, California and the creator of the Level Method which is used by over 150 gyms across the world. The Level Method is essentially a martial arts style color system, that coaches and members can use to accurately assess where they are today, and have a systematic approach to improving their fitness and attacking their weaknesses. It’s a powerful tool for improving member retention, upselling to more services like personal training and programming, creating powerful moments in your community, and differentiating your gym from others in the industry. In this episode, Nathan and I discuss the power of the Level Method and also dive into the business side of running both a CrossFit style gym while launching an online business. We dive into his favorite resources and tools for productivity, which has become a necessary skill for him to thrive in both businesses.
On today's episode, I have on Nathan Holiday of The Level Method. If you are not familiar with The Level Method, it is a belt system that is for functional fitness and group-based affiliate models and things like that. Which I think is super cool to help give a performance-based goal. for people at your gym. Especially for gyms that don't have one. More importantly, Nathan is just an all around awesome guy. We have very similar interests and values, as I learned more as I was doing research for this episode. He's just a really great focused man whos trying to great things for the right reasons. Please if you are a gym owner give Level Method a look, I think that you would really appreciate what he is trying to accomplish with it. I love you all, enjoy the show. In business, the best storyteller wins. One of the first things every entrepreneur does in the Incubator is to map their clients' journey. That foundation helps us plan for better intake and retention. The client is the hero of their story; their coaches are the guides. The Level Method is based in science and math, but it's powerful because it tells a story. As your client moves from Yellow to Red in the Front Squat, they know they've achieved something. Take the best elements of gaming, badging, and martial arts grading, and you have The Level Method. At Two-Brain, we advocate services and products that can measurably improve your gym. We're not interested in dumping more ideas on you; we want to share things that WORK.The immediate benefit that most gym owners see from adding Level Method is an increase in 1:1 training revenue. But long-term, we're tracking LEG and adherence too, because we know that a sticky story draws people back to the campfire. We've been sharing Nate's story since the start, and we're big believers. In 2016 Nathan developed what has become known as the Level Method. This is a completely unique, data-driven system that offers clients unparalleled insight into their fitness and progression. After implementing this tool at his own gym, Nathan has shared this powerful tool with many other gyms now providing unimaginably results for their members. Episode 101 – Level Up with Nathan Holiday & Josh Price This is a VERY visual episode, so I'm going to include the video recording of the discussion. It's not edited or produced (as the podcast always is) but it's worth an hour in front of a screen to see it. If you visited CrossFit.com in 2006 (as I did,) you would have found the original CrossFit message boards. And one of the most-discussed concepts was the idea of a "belt system" for progressions in CrossFit. Many of us sketched out our own, but none were ever perfect, and most weren't even usable. Until now. I think Nathan Holiday has done it. Even Nate failed when he tried it the first time. And the second. But what he has now in the Level Method not only shows what clients need to do to be progressing, but also gives coaches a way to create meaningful moments in the clients life cycle. The Level Method gives you a system for rewarding "moments" in the client's life cycle. I recommend reading "The Power of Moments" by Chip and Dan Heath as soon as you can. Make that your next book. Today we dive deep into the Level Method. Nate is very knowledgeable on the coaching side, and we get technical about energy systems, biomechanics and progressions. After a full half hour of nerd talk, Josh Price joins us to talk about his experience with using the Level Method in his gym and how it has helped his CrossFit gym grow.

This week Grant and Heavey are joined by Nathan and Alex from Level Method Gym. Nathan talks about his invention to assess athlete fitness via a system of colored levels. Similar to martial arts, Nathan's level method helps athletes stay engaged in their individual growth via a belting system layered on top of fitness. While discussing white, orange, blue, and purple, Heavey nerds out on its effect on gym owners and coaches ensuring athletes are progressing in their training.
