Ohsweken Speedway Mini Stock Racer Ashton Dickie joins the show to chat all about dirt racing! We also look ahead with Cam to see what is in store of the youngster in 2024. As once again he will be racing a Sprint Car on Friday Nights at Ohsweken Speedway before loading up and heading to the asphalt Saturday night in the pure stock class at Flamboro Speedway driving for BT Racing this year. We brought up on the stage Rodney Rutherford to go head-to-head against Cam in Checkers or Wreckers with Rodney Rutherford winning the round and taking home a tumbler.

We now officially start our stretch of interviews featuring the cast of Friday Night Thunder. This week we welcome Aaron Turkey driver of the #68 360 Sprint Car for Glen Styres Racing at Ohsweken Speedway. We talked with Aaron briefly about his racing career before we dived into how Aaron got involved with Friday Night Thunder and how he has been enjoying the show. It is that special time of the week when we drop a brand new episode of the True North Racing Podcast. We were joined by co-creator and director of Friday Night Thunder, Laura Milliken. We were also joined by two of the assistant directors in Melissa Jim and Neil Annett. We got to learn how Friday Night Thunder as created and what we can expect from season 3. During our first segment with Laura we dived into her beginnings before Friday Night Thunder. Laura would go on to talk about her involvement in many of the productions Laura has been apart of. Laura took the time to open up about her early life, her sobriety and how Friday Night Thunder had brought her close to people that would treat her like family. Then we got on the topic of Friday Night Thunder and what it meant to Laura. We learned about how the show was created and how in 2019 they hit up Ohsweken Speedway to film different drivers and start telling their stories. Jon was then joined by Melissa Jim and Neil Annett, and we got to learn about their roles in the show as Melissa is not only an assistant director but the go pro director as well. Neil is an assistant director and works on the story telling side of the series. Melissa start her journey working with Big Soul Productions and has been apart of the Friday Night Thunder since day 1. We would talk about how the series has evolved over the years and what difficulties they faced when COVID would shut down Ohsweken Speedway for two seasons. Neil is currently working on her second season of Friday Night Thunder while they currently work on Season 4 of the show.

This week for episode 99 of the True North Racing Podcast we are excited to be joined by Cam Thomson. On this week's Smart Sports Podcast, we are talking junior hockey. And since the Provincial Junior Hockey League kicked off over the weekend, we thought it would be great to have one of the local teams on the podcast. This week, Port Dover Sailors head coach Mike Tobin joins us. He talks about his Sailors 2019-2020 season, PJHL, the Bloomfield Division, and junior hockey in general. SHOUT OUTS • The Port Dover Steelheads bantam team continued its dominant ways this weekend in Ontario Football League action. The Steelheads crushed the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 54-0. This victory improves the Steelheads record to a perfect 3-0 so far, where they have been incredible on both sides of the ball. What's even more impressive, is the fact they haven't allowed a point against so far in the 9-vs-9 division. They began the season with a 56-0 win over Tottenham, and then beat Halton 34-0. • Hurricane Hannah Ferrell raced her way to the Strickland's Brantford Chevrolet Crate Sprint Cars checkered flag Friday night at Ohsweken Speedway. The Delhi District Secondary School graduate, Ferrell got by Jesse Costa one last time, and with two laps to go, earned her first career Crate Sprint Car victory. This week we are in for a treat. I like to call our guest the professor of rugby in our area. Ian Fitzgerald, fondly known as Fitz to pretty much everyone, is, like always, on the road coaching rugby. He joins us by phone in Guelph, where he is helping out with the Ontario program. But that isn’t why Fitz is on the podcast. Last week, Fitz and his Niagara Rugby Union Thunder U18 girls team arrived home from France, with gold medals around their necks. The Thunder, made up of young women from all over the NRU, including members of the Norfolk Harvesters, won the Paris World Games rugby 7s title. Hayden was back on his home track at Gopher Dunes over the weekend, and tore it up at the Rockstar Triple Crown MX Series. In the fourth stop on the series, Hayden earned his first top-10 finish of the season in the Pro 250 division. In the first moto he placed 11th, and finished the day with a ninth, to give him 10th overall on the day. Next up is a shout out to big weekend in local sports. If you’re looking for something to do, or watch, there is plenty, including the Norfolk RAM Rodeo at Timmerman’s Ranch which runs all weekend. On Sunday the Tour de Norfolk hits the roads, beginning in Delhi, while the North Shore Challenge open water swim event takes place in Turkey Point in the morning. Final shout out goes to Ohsweken Speedway. On Monday and Tuesday, the stars will race in the Northern Summer Nationals, featuring Tony Stewart, Christopher Bell, & Rico Abreu. Tuesday things wrap up with the Race of Champions.

This week we put a wrap on the 2018 season for the sprint car division and to help us out we invited Todd Buffenbarger from tjslideways.com. Todd sits down with us to discuss 2018 seasons from the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars, the All Star Circuit of Champions and the USAC National Sprint series. We also talk about the recent silly season news in the sprint car world. Todd is a native of Michigan so we also discuss the state of sprint car racing in the state of Michigan along with some of the unique events hosted in the state. At the end we talk about the Canadian Nationals held at Ohsweken Speedway in Ontario, Canada and why all sprint car fans should visit this event.
