On this episode of The Backstretch Podcast (Season 5, Episode 4) we break down a HUGE week in NASCAR:  Henderson Motorsports runs inside the Top 10 with Corey LaJoie in the Truck race at Daytona… until disaster strikes. Chris explains what happened. What Matters, What Doesn't Tyler Reddick wins the Daytona 500, putting Michael Jordan in Victory Lane as a Cup Series owner — does that matter? Fans voice frustration over fuel saving and drivers riding half throttle — but did it actually impact how the race played out? NASCAR announces 150,000 fans attended the Daytona 500 and more than 450,000 were on property for the week — do numbers like that matter? Then, we go Five Minutes on Turn Five with Daytona 500 champion Michael McDowell — a thoughtful and insightful conversation you don't want to miss. Back with Chris for Say What? We react to Ryan Blaney's comments about the Stage 2 caution incident and the late blocks from Justin Allgaier and Riley Herbst — is blocking becoming a Daytona problem? Kyle Busch's post-race audio sparks debate — what do we think of the No. 8 car bailing at the end? Plus — our featured Backstretch Conversation with NASCAR President Steve O'Donnell, talking about the state of the sport and what's ahead. And to wrap it up, Chris puts the crew chief hat back on as NASCAR heads to EchoPark Speedway (Atlanta) — what makes it different from Daytona, and what are the biggest challenges teams will face? It's insight. It's analysis. It's real talk from the garage. Hit subscribe and join us every week on The Backstretch.

In this segment, host Clay Edwards breaks down the controversial Daytona 500 Victory Lane moment where team owner Michael Jordan was accused online of inappropriately touching driver Tyler Reddick's young son. Clay debunks the claims as a misleading camera angle—Jordan was simply removing ice from a Gatorade bath that had slipped down the child's shirt during celebrations. He calls out the overzealous conspiracy theorists, tying it to broader Epstein obsessions that erode credibility. Hear Tyler Reddick's direct response defending Jordan, emphasizing their close relationship and the joy of the win, as Clay warns against jumping to baseless accusations that harm legitimate discussions.

When the cars are equalized by rules, what separates champions from contenders is how well you manage your biology under pressure. The mid-season grind hits everyone in NASCAR – that point where months of travel, heat, and relentless pursuit of speed create a perfect storm of fatigue. But what's actually happening inside your body goes far deeper than just feeling tired. We're talking about cellular exhaustion that affects everything from reaction time to decision-making quality. This episode dives into the hidden science of peak performance during racing's most demanding stretch. You'll discover how elevated cortisol changes your brain, why your mitochondria (the tiny power plants in your cells) might be underperforming, and the five-step reset protocol that top teams use to maintain their edge when others fade. From sleep discipline and supercharged hydration strategies to micro-recovery techniques and nutrition pivots, these actionable steps create a competitive advantage that shows up exactly when the stakes are highest. The cars might be equalized by regulation, but people are not. Send us a textDelaney Dunn's racing journey is one of perseverance, breaking barriers, and finding strength in what makes her unique. Racing for 11 years since age 15, this 26-year-old driver from Otis, Maine has transformed from an uncertain rookie into the newly-crowned "Queen of the Oval" in the Ladies Acceleration Tour. The path to Victory Lane wasn't straightforward for Delaney. After eight years without a feature win, she finally broke through at Oxford Plains in a rental race car - a moment she describes as feeling "like I won the Oxford 250." Her determination was tested further last year when she was involved in a viral crash with an ATV on track, an incident that could have ended her racing career. Instead, she bounced back stronger. What many don't know about Delaney is that she races while being on the autism spectrum, receiving her diagnosis at 17 after she had already begun racing. Rather than viewing this as a limitation, Delaney considers her autism a "superpower" that enhances her racing abilities, giving her a sixth sense when it comes to car handling and translating sensory input into actionable feedback for her crew. Now competing in a 2009 Chevy Cobalt in the Ladies Acceleration Tour's four-cylinder "hornet" division, Delaney races alongside women aged 16 to 56 at tracks throughout Maine and New Hampshire. She's achieved the remarkable feat of securing a top-three finish at every currently active racetrack in Maine, winning at three of the five venues. With four races remaining and points standings incredibly tight, Delaney remains focused on consistent performance to potentially claim the overall championship. For aspiring racers, especially young women, her advice is simple: "Start early, earlier the better." Her story stands as powerful proof that with persistence, support, and self-belief, remarkable achievements are possible regardless of your starting point or the challenges you face.Feel inspired by Delaney's story?
