RUNDOWN Episode 335 opens with a classic Mitch-and-Hotshot cold open built around a unique problem: there's no area code 335. But that doesn't stop Mitch from spinning it into a musical deep dive centered on the new Eddie Vedder Cup, the tongue-in-cheek prize for the Mariners–Padres rivalry. The two riff on San Diego's surprisingly rich musical heritage — from Blink-182 and Stone Temple Pilots to Iron Butterfly and Heart — as Mitch tries to reel in Hotshot with rock trivia and storytelling. Then it's a packed slate of sports. Mitch breaks down the Mariners' stunning three-game sweep of the Padres, with big contributions from unlikely heroes like Dylan Moore and Rowdy Tellez, and serious praise for the bullpen and manager Dan Wilson. Brady Farkas and Joe Doyle join to analyze Seattle's weirdly dominant road performances, the emergence of Brian Woo as a potential All-Star and ace, and what to expect with George Kirby's return. On the football side, Mitch unpacks the Seahawks' 2025 schedule, including an unprecedented ESPN+ Monday Night game with a 10 PM ET kickoff. He also dives into the quarterback gauntlet Seattle won't face — just two of the top 12 QBs from 2024's passer efficiency ratings. Chance Miller, AD at Coastal Carolina, discusses a groundbreaking promotion giving free concessions to football attendees — and how it actually boosts revenue. Mariners' No-Table give their scouting analysis on the Mariners' rotation depth and the likelihood of a Cole Young call-up. Nick Sheridan, Alabama's co-OC, gives us an inside look at Jalen Milroe — his arm, his speed, and what Seattle fans should expect from their rookie quarterback. The episode wraps with “The Other Stuff” — from John Madden: The Movie to Scottie Scheffler's third major win to Brock Purdy's $265 million payday. Offense vs Minnesota Starts at 1:00 This game was like losing the equalizer in British People Football. Alex Orji has 12 rushing yards which is concerning. They're not running QB power which is not even an expensive install. No we do not want Rich Rodriguez back! But they're not running the offense that optimizes this team's strengths. Alex Orji opened it up a bit in the passing game and at the very least kept the ball out of harm's way. The whole philosophy of this offense under Harbaugh was that you have an NFL quarterback and don't have to run a lot of College Crap™ - but now they should. Offensive line loses Myles Hinton in this game. Semaj Morgan played very little of a role. Nick Sheridan is killing it at Alabama! [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Defense vs Minnesota Starts at 38:37 Not a whole lot of nits to pick considering they were down their two best players. A bit of a sharp drop-off with a lot of the backups. Not much to say about the starting defensive line - they're awesome. Zeke Berry had the play of the game. Barham always finishes his tackles, Hausmann was out of position at times, Rolder has been improving every game. Wink's defense blitzed less which was nice; had a bad one on a 3rd down conversion, though. 3. Hot Takes, Game Theory, and Special Teams Starts at 1:00:50 Takes hotter than Nick Sheridan in the first half of the Georgia Alabama game. The Minnesota guy touched the ball before ten yards so quit your yappin'. The off-sides was very close. Is there a kicker in Michigan history you would take over Dominic Zvada? Going for it on 4th and 1 makes sense when you have Kalel Mullings. Tommy Doman: fine. 4. Around the Big Ten with Jamie Mac Starts at 1:36:00 Indiana 42, Maryland 28 Indiana is 5-0 for the first time since 1967. Will #9Windiana finally stop being an internet meme?? USC 38, Wisconsin 21 A tale of two halves, USC mostly shot themselves in the foot in the first half. Nebraska 28, Purdue 10 This game was tied 0-0 at halftime, if you're a computer science major this spells NOOP. Penn State 21, Illinois 7 Illinois scores six minutes into this game and decides that they're done. Drew Allar descends back into 2023 Allar. Ohio State 38, Michigan State 7 The Jeremiah Smith coming out party. Sparty can't convert in the redzone. Oregon 34, UCLA 14 UCLA is very bad!! Rutgers 21, Washington 18 Washington outgained Rutgers 521 to 299! Washington is not as bad as their record but they may be limping a bit into the Michigan game. On today's Locked On SEC, we continue our spring previews with the Alabama Crimson Tide, as we catch up with Luke Robinson of Locked On Bama, first touching on the Chris Low piece revealing some behind the scenes regarding Nick Saban's retirement and the hiring of Kalen DeBoer, as Saban reveals some reasons why he decided to step away. Then we start previewing the Alabama offense as we ponder if Jalen Milroe will take that next step in his development. Luke thinks the Bama running backs will be just fine, but can a Bama WR emerge as go-to target? Will it be Kendrick Law or perhaps the freshman Ryan Williams? How will the offense look with Nick Sheridan and Jamarcus Shepherd? And we touch on the defensive side as Kane Wommack has a lot of piece back like Deontae Lawson and Malachi Moore. Who else will emerge from the group to lead this defense in 2024? And what's the floor and ceiling when it comes to win totals for the Crimson Tide this season? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! On today's show, Alabama has their new offensive coordinator... again. With Ryan Grubb jumping to the NFL after never coaching a game at Alabama, new head coach Kalen DeBoer will turn in-house to tight ends coach Nick Sheridan who has experience as a play-caller from his time at Indiana, and knows DeBoer very well from their time together at numerous stops. Also, it sounds like Bama will lose assistant Paul Constantine, while it seems like Mizzou will keep Kirby Moore as their OC.ESPN and the College Football Playoff agree on a new 6-year extension worth an astounding $7.8 billion. Greg Sankey and the SEC are paired up with the Big10, and it seems pretty clear they will want a bigger chunk of the pie when it comes to revenue distribution. But first order of business - the schools need to agree on the new CFB Playoff model and how many conferences and teams get automatic bids. Lastly, we have a ton of stars from the SEC getting invites to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, while the SEC Women's basketball Tournament sells out of ticket books already. Before he even coaches a game, Alabama loses new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb to the NFL as he become the OC for the Seattle Seahawks. Grubb was seen recruiting for the Tide the past few weeks, but in the end he gets to remain in Seattle with his family. Reports also say that offensive line coach Scott Huff will follow him to the Seahawks, which leaves two big holes for new head coach Kalen DeBoer at Bama. So where does the Tide go from here? They could stay in house, and promote within with several candidates like WR coach JaMarcus Shepard or TE coach Nick Sheridan. Some have even floated the idea of Deboer naming himself the new offensive coordinator. But a lot of signs point to the Tide targeting Mizzou OC Kirby Moore who was outstanding last year for the Tigers, and he worked with DeBoer at Fresno State. We also touch on some of the other news Around the Conference as Kentucky targets a Boise State assistant as their next OC, while Tennessee loses their running backs coach, and Auburn sets a date for their Spring Game. The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds in Las Vegas and Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund back in Seattle - got together early Friday morning to put together a nearly hour-long Pac-12 Championship pregame show that outlines what they expect to see in this highly anticipated matchup of two top-5 teams. To start, the guys go back and talk a little bit about what the Huskies and Ducks have done since UW's 36-33 win over Oregon back in mid-October. The Ducks have been flying, while the Dawgs have also found ways to win but in much different ways. They look at the matchup of Oregon's offense, led by Bo Nix against Washington's defense. How much will a player like Tuli Letuligasenoa help to neutralize Oregon's vaunted run offense? And with Washington's rotating cast at safety, how much will a player like Kamren Fabiculanan play? And with the emergence of Tez Johnson, would UW put Jabbar Muhammad on him like Muhammad played slot corner against USC? And how big will the play of Carson Bruener be? After a quick break the line is flipped and the guys talk about Washington's offense against Oregon's defense. What is going on with Michael Penix Jr.? And is it just him or are other factors at play when looking at how the Huskies' offensive numbers have declined the second half of 2023? And where will be the places Washington can attack the Ducks? There's also some coaching carousel talk, especially when it comes to the UW assistants like Ryan Grubb, JaMarcus Shephard, Nick Sheridan, Julius Brown, and Inoke Breckterfield. And is an extension close between Washington and Kalen DeBoer? Scott also provides a recruiting/portal update and talks about the news that Courtney Morgan has been promoted to General Manager? Who will take over as Director of Player Personnel? And don't forget, the Washington Men's Basketball team is playing Colorado State in Las Vegas tomorrow night at 4 pm PT on the CBS Sports Network.
