"We did this survey with a third-party consulting group who talked to 2,000 brokers. Their perception was that 25% of bills are going to be balance bills; it's actually 3%."Is Reference-Based Pricing (RBP) still something that just creates endless problems for HR?My guest this week is Jeff Bak, CEO of Imagine360. Jeff brings 30 years of healthcare and private equity experience to the table, and he's leading the charge to rebrand and evolve RBP from a defensive "pay and defend" model into a comprehensive, full-stack alternative health plan.In this episode, we tackle the persistent broker misconceptions surrounding RBP, dissecting exactly why the actual balance bill rate is closer to 3% while plan savings average over 20%. We also explore how Imagine360 blends RBP with strategic direct hospital contracts (like Baylor and Northwestern) to give employees a seamless "PPO-like" experience without the inflated PPO price tag. Jeff also breaks down the reality of the No Surprises Act (NSA) and Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) process, and why hospitals are currently winning the majority of those arbitration cases. If you are a benefits consultant or an employer looking to truly break away from the traditional "BUCA" networks, while ensuring your employees aren't stranded with unmanageable balance bills, this conversation is the reality check you need.Thank you to our 2026 sponsors!ParetoHealth: ParetoHealth empowers midsize employers with a long-term solution to reduce volatility and lower overall health benefits costs. Voice Of GO(r)D is very happy to bring you an in depth discussion with Roleigh Martin, a lifelong data systems analyst and inventor, who has written an as yet unpublished book which will be of great interest to many of my listeners.”The Forgotten Half of The Patent Clause” advertises itself as a ‘constitutional law litigation strategy and a citizen's playbook' and Mr Martin joins the show to explain his thesis on how two words in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution, ‘time limited', have been left out of the equation within the only monopoly the Constitution grants, patents for new products. With time limitations being abandoned in the understanding and execution of patent law, Roleigh explains that 58% of our economy are effectively protected from the free market competition that the founders had envisioned for America when they wrote the Constitution. Amongst that 58% includes the manufacture of cars, trucks, and other types of equipment, and a series of past judicial rulings has vaporized the market for remanufacture of patent expired equipment which should, constitutionally, pass into the public domain. This situation is, in part, why we see the prices of cars and trucks have become totally untethered from reality, and way out of the budgets for most people to purchase them, a problem that has created a drag on the economy and radically increased the cost of living for everyone. This problem with abandoning the time limitation on patents has combined with the wicked incursion of the regulatory state into every facet of life, and turned every new vehicle into an expensive surveillance liability that most people wouldn't purchase - if they had a choice.Roleigh goes through the history of a number of cases that brought us to this problem, and then a number of more recent cases, which, when combined with the 2024 Chevron Deference ruling, have created an opportunity to correct this unconstitutional incursion into our economy, and give competing manufacturers access to expired patents as originally envisioned in the Constitution.I sure would like to buy an inexpensive brand new version of a 1983 Ford F-150 or a 1999 Peterbilt rather than a wildly overpriced and larded down with unnecessary surveillance and automation tech 2026 model, wouldn't you?Roleigh's book shows us how we might re-orient industry towards making these offerings a legal reality, and you will enjoy this conversation greatly. You can find Roleigh on Twitter, and read this summary of his idea and his book -https://x.com/RoleighMartin/status/2042726307931287738You can also read over 30 Twitter Articles he has published explaining various aspects of his proposal -https://x.com/RoleighMartin/articlesHow I initially found Roleigh was through this article he wrote connecting truckers to his larger idea -https://x.com/RoleighMartin/status/2039522355702100013I've been honored to be asked to write a foreword to Roleigh's book, and as soon as he figures out a publisher and gets it out into the universe, the listeners of my podcast and readers of this Substack will be amongst the first to know.https://autonomoustruckers.substack.com/I am always open to questions and comments, and especially look forward to any you might have regards this episode and Mr Martin's ideas.Send them here - gordilocks@protonmail.comAnd if you enjoyed the show, tell a friend and send it to them! Word of mouth is the best advertising, and the only type I can afford.Roleigh quite liked my own book, End of The Road - Inside The War on Truckers and if you have yet to avail yourself of a copy, please visit my publishers website, where you can find options for a hardcover, e-reader, or audiobook narrated by me.https://creedandculture.com/books/end-of-the-road-inside-the-war-on-truckers/Thanks for listening!

The car you buy says a lot about the life you think you're going to live. Maybe that's why “adventure vehicle” is one of the most loaded labels in the whole industry. We sit down with John Vincent from U.S. News & World Report to unpack the 2026 Best Adventure Vehicle Awards and figure out which winners make sense for real drivers who need a daily commute, weekend gear-hauling, and occasional dirt-road confidence. We run through the off-road SUV winners by category, including the Ford Bronco Sport, Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco, Nissan Armada Pro-4X, Toyota RAV4 Woodland, Land Rover Defender, and the Rivian R1S. Along the way, we talk about what these rankings actually measure, why size classes can feel inconsistent, and why most of us shop for “someday” adventures even if the vehicle spends 355 days a year on pavement. We also get into how recalls fit into car ratings, plus the practical side of modern tech like buggy infotainment systems and the upside of over-the-air updates. Then it's trucks and camping: Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, Ford F-150 off-road flavors, and why electric pickups like the Rivian R1T are more legit than many people expect. After the awards, we pivot to the fun stuff that makes car culture matter: Jeff's deep dive on white letter tires (raised vs painted, how they're made, and how to keep them bright), and Mike's driving destinations segment on hidden Houston speakeasies that turn an ordinary night into a little mystery tour. Chad's got a new truck, a new boat, and a lot on his mind. The 2026 Ford F-250 Super Duty is built out and beautiful — Avalanche Gray, Bodyguard bumpers, Mickey Thompson tires, Lear topper, the works. Thank you Corning Ford. Now that that's out of the way, Chad goes somewhere unexpected. Black Springs. Growing up poor. Brown bag lunches with cold spaghetti between two pieces of generic wheat bread. Riding bikes until dark. Breakdancing with J.J. and Marcus and Corey on a piece of graffitied cardboard. A nail through the foot. A wood-burning stove. Government cheese. A mom working graveyard shifts at the Veterans Hospital in oncology while going to nursing school and still making it to every game. He talks about what that upbringing gave him. From humility, to discipline, faith, the fear of God, and what it means to be 51 years old, in the best shape of his life, doing exactly what he was put on earth to do. He talks about his dad. Twenty years this August. He's still talking to him. TChad doesn't have it all figured out. He'll be the first to tell you. But he knows where he came from and he's not ashamed of any of it. This Life Ain't For Everybody. This one especially. Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Alex Murdaugh walked into the guest house pacing, shirt half untucked, rubbing his stomach in circles, holding a spit cup in one hand. He told Blanca Simpson to sit down. Then he asked her a question: do you remember what I was wearing that day? The Vineyard Vines shirt? She sat there and listened. In the back of her mind, she knew that wasn't what he was wearing. She didn't know he'd just come from a SLED interview. She didn't know investigators were already looking at him.In this segment of her interview with Tony Brueski, Blanca details the hours after the Murdaugh murders from inside the family's orbit. She walked into the Moselle house twelve hours after Maggie and Paul were found dead and immediately started noticing things that were wrong. Pajamas set out with underclothes Maggie never wore to bed. Pots in the refrigerator with lids on — something no one in that family would do. Maggie's car parked in a spot she'd never park it. One wedding band out of three, found under the driver's seat of the Mercedes. Then came the beach towel in Alex's Suburban — the detail Blanca calls her biggest clue. That towel came from the laundry room. The same room where the pajamas were staged. The same room where the shirt Alex was asking about would have been. Blanca called her husband after the conversation. He told her it didn't sound right. She also reveals a white Ford F-150 at the property on the day of the murders that she assumed was Paul's — until she learned Paul's truck was in the shop. And a tractor with a digging bucket heading toward the back fields. She believes someone was preparing a location to hide evidence. When she tried to share these observations with SLED, they allegedly told her to get professional help.LINKS & LEGALJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Blanca Simpson calls them “the cleaners.” In her telling, Alex Murdaugh did not handle the aftermath of Maggie and Paul's murders alone. Someone moved Maggie's car and parked it in a spot she'd never use — close to the kitchen entrance, as if following Alex's vehicle without knowing the household's parking routine. Someone removed one of Maggie's three wedding bands, and Blanca believes it fell from a pocket into the space under the driver's seat during the rush. If Blanca's theory holds, this wasn't a crime of impulse. It was planned, and it had help.In this segment of her interview with Tony Brueski, Blanca details the evidence trail she pieced together after walking into the Moselle house twelve hours after the murders. The pajamas staged in the laundry room doorway with underclothes Maggie never wore to bed — a detail only someone who knew her daily routine would catch. The pots stored wrong in the refrigerator. The beach towel from the laundry room found in Alex's Suburban, which told Blanca he'd been in the room where the staging happened. She describes Alex arriving at the guest house, pacing, shirt half untucked, asking her to confirm he'd been wearing a Vineyard Vines shirt that day. She knew he wasn't. She later learned he'd just come from a SLED interview. Before any of that, on the day of the murders, Blanca saw a white Ford F-150 at the property she assumed was Paul's. Paul's truck was in the shop. She saw a tractor with a front-end bucket heading toward the back fields. She believes someone was preparing a concealment site. When she tried to share what she noticed with SLED, they allegedly told her to stop obsessing and get help. She stopped talking.LINKS & LEGALJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? There was a white Ford F-150 at the Murdaugh property on the day of the murders. Blanca Simpson saw it from inside the house and assumed it was Paul's. She didn't think twice about it — Maggie had told her Alex asked Paul to come home. It wasn't until later that Blanca learned Paul's truck was in the shop. That truck has never been publicly identified. In this segment of her interview with Tony Brueski, Blanca also describes a tractor with a front-end bucket crossing the old landing strip toward the back fields that same day. She believes whoever was driving it may have been preparing a spot to conceal evidence — clothing, shoes, whatever needed to disappear. Moselle had four access points, miles of property, and enough regular tractor activity that fresh tracks wouldn't raise suspicion. Blanca doesn't believe the evidence is still there. She thinks it was buried, then retrieved and moved later. When Blanca returned to the house twelve hours after the murders, the details kept piling up. Maggie's pajamas were laid out in the laundry room doorway with underclothes she never wore to bed. Pots were stored in the refrigerator in a way nobody in that family would do. One of Maggie's three wedding bands was under the driver's seat of her Mercedes. And a beach towel from the laundry room was in Alex's Suburban — the detail that told Blanca he had been in that room.Alex later came to Blanca and asked her to confirm he'd been wearing a Vineyard Vines shirt. She knew he wasn't. When she tried to bring her observations to SLED, an investigator allegedly told her she was obsessing and needed professional help. She stopped talking after that.LINKS & LEGALJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? They also discuss Ford F-150 shortages, millions of vehicles with unresolved backup camera recalls, Tesla's safety test success, MINI's safety push, and Lexus's new three-row EV. Our special guest is Honda's Dillon Kane.

I've been testing various video programs. In this case, I tried a lip-synching feature in Video Express AI. In the past I've had relatively good success with this feature, but this time it's only passable. Every once in awhile in the above video, my lips actually do synch with the song. But this lip-synching feature works much better with words rather than lyrics.Video Express AI is a great program and getting better all the time. And the people behind it are wonderful people. Find out more here: https://videoexpress.ai/secret. Note: that's not an affiliate link. I just like the people behind this program. Right now they offer the service for a small one-time fee. No subscription or on-going payments.Note: In this video I'm lip-synching badly a song I wrote about the Ford F-140 pickup truck. Enjoy the song.Book Marketing Success is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. This is a public episode. Car ads can feel like a game you're meant to lose, and we're not letting that slide. We dig into the FTC's warning letters sent to dozens of dealerships and major dealer groups over suspected illegal advertising practices and break down what the agency is targeting, including price ads that don't reflect the true out-the-door cost. If you've ever shown up for a “deal” that magically required financing, a huge down payment, or a rebate you could never qualify for, you'll recognize exactly why this matters. Then we take a turn into the kind of story only car people can appreciate: a pair of robins built a nest on the wheel of a brand-new Ford F-250 King Ranch at a Kansas dealership, and everyone from national media to Ford itself helped spread the word. We talk about the legal protections around active nests, why the dealership left it alone, and the surprisingly patient buyer who agreed to wait it out. From there, we hit the wider car world: Mary Barra's latest Fortune ranking, the relentless growth of Mavis Tire and what consolidation looks like in service and repair, plus our plans for the Lone Star Street Rod Association State Run in Granbury, Texas at Hewlett Park. We round it out with our cruise-in and events calendar, then get into a real debate starter: Honda pausing Ridgeline production to meet emissions regulations, and what it means when California emissions hardware follows a used car across state lines. Raees tells Officer Sheldon Czegledi, (27 year veteran of the City of Phoenix Police Department and 5th highest paid employee in Phoenix according to an online report) that Gil sells drugs, has cartel ties, and is gambling away all of his money. He further alleges that Gil is being sued for defaulting on loans and debt. He says Jezuz doesn't have a day job and that because the fellas own Ford F-150's they must have been responsible for casing his home. Listen along as Raees does his best to encourage the officer to have Gil and Jezuz arrested because they're partners in crime and should be incarcerated. In an upcoming episode we will share whose license plate that so-called suspect belonged to as it took all of 24 hours to figure out. If Raees had any common sense he probably could have figured it out without calling the police. We suspect he knew already and just needed an excuse for his narrative. Raees tells the officer he has a law firm full of young pretty girls. Pretty cringey Raees. We also share the latest video regarding the lawsuit against Raees Mohamed and Baller Busters by Plaintiff Kristopher Gomez in California. Way to Go Raees! You found your way back on the podcast.

A live road trip check-in should be simple, but when you're a live car talk show, it turns into a full-speed sprint through the biggest stories of the week. We start with some real-time studio chaos, then dig into why Ford F-150 inventory is suddenly so tight and what a supply shock like an aluminum plant fire can do to prices, selection, and dealer lots across the country.Next, we get into the uncomfortable stuff: the FTC asking dealers to report other dealers who break federal vehicle advertising rules. We talk through what “self-policing” could fix, what it could break, and why shoppers should be extra careful with too-good-to-be-true price ads. From there, we vent about CEO compensation, react to Mary Barra's reported pay package, and connect it to GM's decision to delay its next-generation full-size electric truck program while the market leans harder into hybrids and proven gas platforms. Then we lighten it up with car culture fun: a quick hit on WeatherTech money moves, a surprisingly heated floor mat debate, and a game of matching famous car slogans to the right automaker. We also run through a practical recall roundup including Goodyear performance tires, Lexus fuel pump issues, Ford F-150 downshift concerns, and more. We wrap with our Hot Rod Tour Of Texas update from the highway, with the crew rolling from New Braunfels toward Fredericksburg and all the small-town charm in between.Subscribe for more weekly automotive news and laughs, share this with a friend who's shopping for a truck, and leave a review so more car people can find us.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. A modern car can fail you in two very different ways: a broken part you can hear and feel, or a software and security issue you never see coming. We start with the real-world stuff first, running down this week's biggest automotive recalls, including the Ford F-150 transmission problem that can trigger an unexpected downshift, plus a long list spanning Kia, Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Tesla, Volkswagen, and more. We also revisit the Takata airbag mess and the simple step that still matters most: check your VIN and get the remedy done through the manufacturer. Then we lighten the mood with a listener-favorite game: “guess what it sold for.” We throw out bids on everything from a 1970 Dodge Coronet and an underappreciated 1984 Mustang convertible to a true jaw-dropper, a 1958 Chevrolet Impala convertible with a 409 that proves just how crazy classic car auction prices can get when rarity and originality line up.To close it out, we share Texas driving destinations with a Hill Country twist: glamping for grown-ups. Think luxury tents, futuristic pods, hot tubs, big decks, dark skies, and easy weekend access from Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and DFW. We also hit the cruise-in and events calendar and a quick headline on Stellantis partnering with Microsoft on AI and cybersecurity for connected vehicles.Subscribe for more weekly car talk, share this with your favorite gearhead, and leave a review so more people can find the show. Doug Dahl breaks down the spatial math behind cyclist passing laws on two-lane roads. Ford F-150s measure 8 feet wide with mirrors, but most road lanes are only 10-12 feet. Add the required 3-foot buffer and cyclist positioning, and legal in-lane passing becomes impossible for most vehicles. The solution isn't aggression—it's understanding when patience beats risky maneuvers on double yellow line roads. https://www.clarkcountytoday.com/opinion/opinion-passing-a-cyclist-law-myth-and-a-little-patience/ #CyclistSafety #TrafficLaws #RoadSharing #Transportation #TheWiseDrive #Opinion #DrivingSafety #ClarkCounty

Southeast Texas can feel like a straight shot on the map, but it's packed with stops that turn a simple drive into a full day of stories. We build a listener-friendly route through the Golden Triangle, starting in downtown Beaumont with the Texas Energy Museum for the oil boom history that still shapes American energy and industry. From there we keep it walkable and air-conditioned with the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, then step into a restored 1927 station at the Fire Museum of Texas, capped off by one of the weirdest legit landmarks around: the world's largest working fire hydrant. Then we head south for more local character, from Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum's throwback oil-field atmosphere to Port Arthur's Museum of the Gulf Coast, where the region's music and sports history shows up in ways you might not expect. Crossing the Rainbow Bridge adds a scenic moment before Orange, where the Stark Museum of Art and the 1894 Stark House deliver culture and architecture in the same block. We wrap the travel talk with Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, a 250-acre wetlands escape that's perfect if you want birding, trails, and a calmer pace. After the road trip, we go full truck mode with a Ford F-150 Hybrid King Ranch review, including real-world mpg, towing and payload capability, and what BlueCruise hands-free driving can and cannot do.Jeff also breaks down the real reasons capless gas cap design became so common, from emissions control to fewer check-engine headaches. Don closes with a 2026 Ram 1500 Longhorn review, covering the return of the 5.7L Hemi V8 with mild hybrid assist, a standout three-screen cabin, ride comfort, and the price reality of modern “luxury pickups.” If you enjoyed the mix of travel ideas and car talk, subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave us a review.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. An armed private security guard at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, MI. shot and killed an attacker who rammed his vehicle into the synagogue and opened fire, preventing what could have been a mass casualty event last week, authorities and witnesses said. The incident, which occurred Thursday, March 12, left the attacker dead and one security guard injured, but no congregants, staff or the 140 children attending the synagogue's early childhood learning center were harmed. The attacker, identified by federal authorities as Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, 41, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Lebanon and resident of Dearborn Heights, drove a Ford F-150 through the building's doors around 12:30 p.m., entered a hallway and began firing through his windshield, according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard and FBI officials. Security personnel, including the synagogue's in-house armed team, engaged the suspect. Ghazali was fatally shot during the exchange; some reports indicate he may have inflicted a self-inflicted wound as well. The vehicle caught fire, filling the area with smoke. Temple Israel credited its enhanced security measures — implemented last June in response to rising antisemitism and threats to Jewish institutions — with averting disaster. The synagogue hired Danny Phillips, a former police lieutenant with 28 years of experience, including as an advanced firearms instructor, to lead its armed security team. “In response to the evolving realities facing Jewish communities,” the temple said at the time of Phillips' hiring, it took proactive steps to protect members. In an interview following the attack, Jewish firearms instructor Aaron Tobin told journalist Alan Skorski that beefed-up security and armed response were key to stopping the assault. Tobin, who trains members of the Jewish community in the Detroit metro area, said Jews across the region are increasingly arming themselves and seeking proper firearms training amid heightened threats. “Jews across Detroit's Metro area are getting armed and trained in proper gun use,” Tobin said. He issued a stark warning to potential attackers from Dearborn, a city with a large Arab American population: “Stay away from the Jewish community if they know what's good for them.” The FBI is leading the investigation into the incident, which Special Agent in Charge Jennifer Runyan described as “a targeted act of violence against the Jewish community.” Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer condemned the attack as “hate, plain and simple,” and expressed relief that swift action by security prevented further harm. Temple Israel, one of the largest Reform synagogues in the U.S. with over 12,000 members, has been a focal point for the local Jewish community. No additional injuries beyond the security guard were reported, though some first responders were treated for smoke inhalation. A Cadillac convertible bought after “quite a bit of wine” sounds like a punchline until you hear what happens next. We kick off from Tailpipes and Tacos in Beaumont, Texas with a 1961 Cadillac story that goes from ratty auction find to TV-ready restoration, then right back into the shop for a drivability-focused rebuild. It's a candid look at how classic car restoration really works when deadlines, budgets, and “while we're in there” decisions collide. Then we get hands-on with a Ford F-150 Hybrid King Ranch 4x4 review for anyone shopping a luxury pickup truck that still needs real capability. We break down the 3.5-liter hybrid powertrain (400 hp, 500 lb-ft), the 10-speed automatic, towing and payload numbers, and what fuel economy looks like in the real world. We also talk features that matter day to day, from the quiet cabin and leather comfort to tailgate functionality and driver-assist tech like Ford BlueCruise. To wrap it up, we share upcoming cruise-ins and car shows, plus driving destinations across Southeast Texas: the Texas Energy Museum, Fire Museum of Texas, Spindletop Boomtown Museum, the Museum of the Gulf Coast, the Rainbow Bridge, and Shangri-La Botanical Gardens. We also touch on a major automotive news headline: how US tariffs are adding billions in costs and changing what automakers choose to build here. If you enjoy honest car reviews, local car culture, and road-trip ideas you can use, subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review. A House of Lords committee described the situation as a "concerted campaign of misinformation," warning that false narratives and deliberate anti-EV propaganda by some in the media are a major barrier to EV uptake in the UK.MOST UK BUYERS MISS EV GRANTCarwow research found that 64% of in-market UK car buyers were unaware of the Government's EV grant, despite 73% of those who did know about it saying a full £3,750 discount would make them more likely to choose an EV. EVs now account for just under a quarter of new car sales, with only 8 of the 46 qualifying models eligible for the maximum grant amount.MERCEDES SETS OUT 2026 GLA PLANMercedes will launch the third-generation GLA later in 2026 on its MMA platform, offering hybrid and fully electric variants with an 800V system, a new vehicle supercomputer, and over-the-air update capability. The merged line could follow the Macan and Cayenne model, where parallel ICE and EV versions share a name despite using distinct platforms.SK BATTERY AMERICA CUTS 958 GEORGIA JOBSSK Battery America has cut 958 workers — 37% of its workforce — at its Commerce, Georgia plant, citing weak US EV market conditions. The plant had supplied cells for the Ford F-150 Lightning, Volkswagen ID.4, and Hyundai and Kia models, with Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff blaming the losses on the Trump administration's stance on EVs.VOLVO EX60 BETS BIG ON CENTRAL SOFTWAREVolvo has positioned the all-electric EX60, due for customer deliveries in September, as Europe's first "true" software-defined vehicle, combining in-house batteries, motors, core software, and the new SPA3 platform under one roof. The centralised software architecture replaces dozens of supplier ECUs and kilometres of wiring, with Volvo claiming the freed-up space gives the D-segment SUV cabin room comparable to older E-segment cars.REDWOOD SHIFTS EV BATTERIES INTO SECOND-LIFE STORAGERedwood Materials is expanding into second-life battery energy storage after finding that incoming used EV packs are retaining more capacity and arriving in better condition than originally modelled. The strategy centres on a 12 MW/63 MWh second-life BESS project in Texas — claimed as the world's largest — with Redwood targeting GWh-scale deployments for data centres, renewables, and utility-scale installations.
Jason Noel, founder of Fat Fender Garage in Gilbert, Arizona, joins us this week with a story that's less about horsepower at the beginning — and more about perseverance. Jason didn't grow up chasing race cars. He was a finish carpenter by trade, building doors and crown molding before the 2008 housing collapse wiped out his business and forced a complete reset. What came next wasn't a hobby gone wild — it was a deliberate rebuild. One old truck led to another, then to customer builds, then to something much bigger than he ever planned. Today, Fat Fender Garage is a full-scale restoration shop specializing in classic Ford and Chevy trucks, known especially for early Ford F-100s and modern Coyote swaps. Along the way, Jason learned that if he wanted the quality and timelines his customers expected, he'd have to take control of the process. That meant bringing paint, upholstery, parts manufacturing, and now even chassis production in-house. What started as flipping a few trucks for fun has grown into a 75-person operation building high-end custom vehicles and engineered components designed to compete at the top of the industry. In this episode, Jason shares the hard lessons from early customer builds, the philosophy behind vertical integration, why he chose to compete directly with established chassis manufacturers, and how telling the real story — wins and failures alike — became the backbone of Fat Fender's marketing success. If you're into classic trucks, modern restomods, or the realities of scaling a business in the automotive aftermarket, this is a conversation you won't want to miss. The post TMCP #639: Jason Noel – Fat Fender Garage, The 20-Year Overnight Success first appeared on The Muscle Car Place.
Some stories are so improbable that if they weren't true, you'd never believe them. Dean Otto's story is one of them. A lifelong athlete, sales leader, and dad, Dean was out for a Saturday morning bike ride in Charlotte when he was hit from behind by a Ford F-150, paralyzed from the waist down, and given just a 2% chance of ever walking again. Less than a year later, he crossed the finish line of a half marathon—running side by side with his neurosurgeon, Dr. Matthew McGirt, who had performed the complex spine surgery that saved his mobility. But the comeback is only part of the story. Dean chose to forgive the guy who hit him, invited him into his life, and turned a horrific accident into a lesson in grace, courage, and belief. We can't wait to hear more about this one… Dean, welcome to The BrandBuilders Podcast!
