Fr Shawn McCain Tirres on Pentecost Sunday (June 8th, 2025) This Pentecost sermon explores how God doesn't just speak our literal language, but communicates with us in every way we grasp truth and reality. The message centers on the "language of love" - the heavenly language of self-giving demonstrated by Jesus that the Spirit empowers ordinary people to speak fluently. Father Shawn challenges the congregation to let their lives be "translated" to others through practical acts of service, from setting up chairs to visiting the sick. Using vivid imagery of sacraments as "mini Pentecosts," the sermon shows how the Spirit continues to work through normal people in everyday moments. It concludes with a call to "re-up" on the commitment to allow our lives to translate God's love to everyone we encounter, crossing all boundaries of difference. The message celebrates both the cosmic significance of Pentecost and its intimate, practical implications for how we love and serve others in our daily lives. John 20:19-23On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews,Jesus came and stood in their midstand said to them, "Peace be with you."When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you.As the Father has sent me, so I send you."And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,"Receive the Holy Spirit.Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained."

La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Delivered by Andrew Jost and Shendy Jost from the Parish of Saint Albert the Great and Jonathan Axel from the Parish of Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Makassar, Indonesia. Acts of the Apostles 2: 1-11; Rs psalm 104: 1ab.24ac.29c-30.31.34; 1 Corinthians 12: 3b-7.12-13; John 20: 19-23.DIVINE BREATH The title for our meditation today is:Divine Breath. People in the Arab world give great importance to the breathcoming from someone who speaks. As a sign of welcome and kindness towardsothers, he speaks so closely that his partner can enjoy the smell that comes fromhim. A stranger must feel strange with the culture like this one, but he mustbe able to accept and understand it. People from the south of Asia alsovalue the smell of their bodies and it's natural to share that smell to thoseclose to them. One needs to give the impression that his presence is marked bythe smell that he sends to the people around him. Many other cultures in theworld have also the same type of relation and communication to other people whocome to have contact with them. However, there is a breath or blowingof wind that overcomes all kinds of odors in all people of the world, namelythe breath of love. The smell of breath of tobacco or roasted meat, certainfruit or fried food does not matter; the most important is the breath of lovefrom each of us that we send to others around us. We can meet anyone who isdifferent from all types of backgrounds, and if our breath is a breath of love, then every one else becomes our neighbours. The Holy Spirit of God blows becauseGod has power to do so. The smell must be a smell from God and it must be thelove of God himself. Love gives life, movement, new spirit, renewal, fellowship, peace and friendship. At the time of the first creation, God formedman from clay, God blew His Spirit on that created being, there was a life thathad never existed before. The people of the early Church were still overwhelmedby confusion, fear and not understanding each other, but the blowing of theSpirit of God gave them new life andability to speak in languages which were understood by many others. Every follower of Christ is unique andthe differences in each of them are special gifts of God that explain theircharacteristics and identity. Breath or smell of love or hatred, diligence orlaziness, courage or fear, smartness or ingnorance can differ from one personto another. But the breath of love of God is only one that blows from HolySpirit to unite and strenthen all. The blast of human hatred is overcomeby the blowing of God's love. The spread of the smell of laziness and loss ofhope is overcome by the breath of divine love which pour new energy andenthusiasm. And this continues as to this day. So the divine breath is the HolySpirit that blows to spread the love of God to all of us. Let's pray. In the name of theFather ... O loving and generous Lord, we are grateful for this PentecostSunday that makes us mature as your sons and daughters, the followers ofChrist. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In thename of the Father ...

Despite knowing the betrayal and the fractures that would happen in the Church. Then, the Apostles go and abandon him when He needs them the most.” —Fr. Sean Conroy “The first words Jesus speaks after the Resurrection were, ‘Shalom'—‘Peace be with you.' In the city of peace, Jesus speaks peace.'” —Fr. Sean Conroy “One of the last things Jesus says before his death, and right after he resurrects—‘peace.'”—Fr. Sean Conroy “Where do we find anxiety? Where do we find divisions in our hearts? What is weighing on us? What do we need to bring to the altar today where Jesus will pour out His peace upon us? Not just what, but who?”—Fr. Sean Conroy Matthew 18: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/matthew/18 “‘Seek forgiveness from your brother before you approach the altar.' ‘This is why at every Mass we have the sign of peace, so we can reconcile with one another before we approach the Lord.'”—Fr. Pentecost comes 40 days after the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit bursts forth on the Apostles “Do you have the presence of peace in your life? Do you have the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life?” —Fr. Sean Conroy “Who do we spend more time with?”—Fr. Sean Conroy “The Holy Spirit wants to give us peace.”—Fr. Sean Conroy “Do you feel called to be a priest by the Father, the Son, or by the Holy Spirit?” —one of Fr. Sean's interview questions upon entering the seminary “In the Holy Spirit, there is no waiting room for God. The Holy Spirit gives us access. Why? Because from the love of the Father and the Son processes forth the Holy Spirit—the personification of the Father and the Son. And in the Holy Spirit, we don't have to wait.”—Fr. Sean Conroy ”The Holy Spirit breaks into our world, and says, come to know The Son in Me.”—Fr. Sean Conroy “Our hearts are restless until they rest in you, Oh Lord.
