In our digitally connected yet emotionally distant world, true friendship has become increasingly scarce, with many adults reporting few or no close friends. Biblical friendship involves being present, sharing vulnerabilities, and supporting each other through difficulties. True connections require intentional effort - putting away distractions, being authentic, and making time for face-to-face interaction. Christian friendships are particularly vital as they provide godly counsel, accountability, and support while helping us grow closer to God.

In this podcast episode, Dennis, Stacy Shackelford, and Doc Rush discuss the critical topic of triage in emergency medical situations, particularly in military contexts. They explore the current challenges in triage practices, emphasizing the need for a shift in thinking towards large-scale events and the importance of adapting strategies based on the number of casualties. The conversation highlights the significance of immediate actions in the first hour post-injury and the necessity of training medics to handle chaotic situations effectively. The episode concludes with a call for a more standardized approach to triage that prioritizes population health over individual patient categorization. This conversation delves into the complexities of tactical medicine in combat situations, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing tactics over medicine, the necessity of clinical experience for medics, and the psychological challenges faced in high-stress environments. The discussion also covers the decision-making process in evacuation scenarios, the identification of surgical needs, and the training required for mass casualty incidents. The speakers advocate for a simplified approach to triage and the need for ongoing training to prepare medics for the realities of their roles. Takeaways Triage practices need to evolve with changing conflict scenarios. Current triage systems are not standardized and often ineffective. Immediate actions in the first hour post-injury are crucial. Training should focus on large-scale event responses, not just individual cases. The first pass actions should prioritize stopping bleeding and ensuring airway clearance. Medics should be prepared for chaotic situations and make quick decisions. Understanding the scale of an event is essential for effective triage. The concept of treating the population rather than individuals is vital. Preparation and rehearsal are key to effective triage in emergencies. Triage decisions should be offloaded to allow for rapid response. Tactics often take precedence over medical interventions in combat. Medics should have regular clinical rotations to enhance their skills. Risk management in evacuation decisions is crucial for team leaders. Psychological preparation is essential for medics facing trauma. Identifying surgical needs should focus on unstable patients. Basic principles of triage should guide decision-making in emergencies. Training for mass casualty scenarios is vital for operational readiness. Medics must be prepared for the reality of not saving every patient. Experience and pattern recognition are key to effective triage. Simplicity in approach can lead to better outcomes in chaotic situations. Daily Study: God speaks to us mainly through His written word. However, He is also in the business of giving us dreams and/or visions as part of our toolkit for direction for our entrepreneurial calling. A simple distinction I use between them is that dreams happen when you are asleep and visions happen when you are awake. In today's study I am providing a few basic principles to interpret dreams and visions. This is by no means a complete study on the topic, but it is a great starting point. Completed shortly before Hamas carried out its barbaric October massacre, Cary Nelson's Hate Speech and Academic Freedom: The Antisemitic Assault on Basic Principles (Academic Studies Press, 2024) takes up issues that have consequently gained new urgency in the academy worldwide. It is the first book to ask what impact antisemitism has had on the fundamental principles the academy relies on for its identity—academic freedom, free speech rights, standards for hiring or firing faculty members and administrators, and the ethics of academic conduct and debate. Antisemitic hatred is spreading at a fever pitch. What steps can counter it? What damage to students is done when departments embrace anti-Zionism? In fact, characteristics from both the thesis and antithesis are carried forward into the synthesis.Figure 6 - 25:17In materialist dialectics, it is understood that negation is a process of retention: characteristics from both the thesis (initial subject) and antithesis (impacting subject) are retained in the resulting synthesis.Figure 7 - 30:52The metaphysical “line development” model sees an initial form as being “replaced” or entirely negated into a completely distinct entity.Figure 8 - 33:05The “Spiral Development” model of materialist dialectics sees every stage of development as a higher form of the previous stage which carries forward characteristics from previous stages.Figure 9 - 37:30The cyclical pattern of development is an abstract pattern of dialectical change over time.Figure 10 - 38:56In this example, a new car goes through a cyclical pattern of development in which the third form (new steel) possesses characteristics of the first form (a new car).Figure 11 - 39:40The development of class structure is a dialectical process in which different classes synthesize to form the next era of class society. For example, the capitalist class emerged primarily as a synthesis of the feudal lords and peasants of the medieval era.Footnotes:10) 20:51Conspectus of Hegel's Science of Logic, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, 1914.11) 41:29Conspectus of Hegel's Science of Logic, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, 1914.12) 42:45Karl Marx, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, 1914.13) 43:56Anti-Dühring, Friedrich Engels, 1878.

Don Veinot, Jr. Ron Henzel Don Veinot and Ron Henzel talk to Mary Danielsen about the fallout from the Bill Gothard teachings of the 80s and 90s. Having clearly imploded from aberrant teaching and immoral behaviour, it came to the fore in the recent documentary, "Shiny Happy People" which brought shame to the cause of Christ in a much larger public context. The children who were raised in it seem to be drifting toward deconstruct mode regarding their faith; some who wish to hang on to their faith have a long road of disentanglement ahead. So is there anything to be gained by exposing it today? What exactly was the ignition spark that brought this legalistic belief system into evangelical families in the first place? Cults - and legalists - are not just limited to extra-curricular doorbell ringers but they can and are in the midst of the church doing untold damage. Their work, A Matter of Basic Principles, recently updated and re-released, is a difficult read but Gothard's influence on evangelicalism must be seen for what it is, an absolute tragedy that serves as a cautionary tale to the church.
