Today Matilda and I are joined by the multi-talented Reggie Watkins, host of the podcast "I'm Probably Right," coach and so much more! Here's what you need to know about Reggie: Reggie Watkins was born and raised in San Jose, CA, and has been passionate about acting from the very start. He even performed in the Kids Skits Theater Company in Denver, CO, which gave him a solid foundation. Reggie later went on to play collegiate football as a wide receiver until a torn ACL ended his career at 21. No longer able to pursue that path, he moved to Los Angeles and fully committed to acting. Reggie's first "Hollywood" job was as a doorman at The World Famous Comedy Store, where he earned his stripes performing stand up with the likes of Dave Chappelle and Dane Cook. His first TV jobs were on the ABC Family series "Lincoln Heights," co-starring opposite the late Chadwick Boseman, and a commercial for Bud Light. Since then, Reggie has booked a stream of high-profile projects, including recurring roles on Amazon's critically acclaimed series "Bosch," NBC's smash hit "This Is Us," and a guest starring role on ABC's "The Rookie." Nov. 13th 2020 Reggie will appear as Sgt. Lawrence Sims in Activision's latest blockbuster, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Reggie also hosted his own sports podcast "Talkin Sports with The Franchise" and currently can be found on the Digital Podcast Network show, "Brothas on Football," providing an in-depth breakdown of the game.Reggie is a social activist as well. Inspired to take action during the civil unrest surrounding the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, Reggie co-founded 'The Valley of Change,' a non-profit organization located in the San Fernando Valley, focused on community outreach and peaceful protests for real, systemic change. Reggie is represented theatrically by BRS-Gage, commercially by KMR, voice-over by Dean Panaro Talent and managed by Aligned Talent Group. Thank you for listening! Pittsburgh Trombonist Reggie Watkins has always had a knack for music. He has come a long way from learning how to play the piano at six. Born and raised in West Virginia and spending years in Pittsburgh, Reggie was exposed to musical influences that would later turn him into an internationally-recognized performer, pianist, arranger, and composer. Leveraging his experience fronting a quarter on a cruise ship, he then served as trombonist and musical director for trumpeter and band leader Maynard Ferguson. From there he went on to tour and record with Jason Mraz from 2008 to 2013. He has shared the stage with many great artists from various genres including Aretha Franklin, Dave Matthews, Dianne Shuur, Jose Feliciano, Willie Nelson, Arturo Sandoval, Trombone Shorty, The Temptations, and the O'Jays. He is also a member of the Grammy-nominated Orrin Evans' Captain Black Big Band. He joins us in this episode to talk about his epiphany moment with jazz, his music education and influences, his early cruise ship gigs, his years touring with the Maynard Ferguson band and Jason Mraz, his practice routine, and the honor of playing at Aretha Franklin's funeral.

Quotes: "one of the things he did was he went out and told all kinds of groups—he was on Oprah, he was on every medium he could—to tell people just how dangerous this was." "we’re seeing significant increases in the number of fatalities on the roadways in the United States. And that reverses a trend of over 50 years of declining crashes. And the most likely culprit is the fact that we’re becoming more and more of a distracted driving society." "The current law in Utah is basically, it’s run like a DUI. If you kill somebody and you’re texting and driving, you’re looking at a second-degree felony now." "if you’re on a phone, you can create something called “inattentional blindness” where something is right in front of you, but you don’t see it." "you’re more than twice the level of impairment when you’re texting as you would have been at a .08 blood alcohol level. So twice the crash risk of a drunk driver." "every aspect of life, including criminal cases or slight offenses, the quicker we forgive, the quicker we heal." Full Transcript
