My next guest hails from Georgia. He is Avery Dixon, a golden buzzer contestant on Season 17 (2022) of America's Got Talent and a spokesperson against bullying. Saxophonist phenom Avery Dixon rose to fame as a finalist on America's Got Talent and as the show's All-Star runner-up. Among the well-known performers he has been honored to perform with are Grammy Award-winning trombonist Troy Andrews, often known as "Trombone Shorty," and 12-time Grammy Award-winning artist, songwriter, and composer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. Despite measuring under a pound, 8 ounces at birth, Avery has surmounted several health obstacles. He has shown himself to be quite resilient and has refused to let his health problems define who he is. Unfortunately, because of his distinctive voice, which set him apart from his friends, he became the target of bullying. Mr. Dixon claims that the bullying was so bad that he once "considered suicide." Avery nevertheless urges anyone who feels depressed or upset to seek therapy. He has also proven his bullies wrong by receiving numerous accolades for his efforts, including a letter of gratitude from former President Obama. Let's welcome my new friend and talented saxophonist, Avery Dixon, to Autism Rocks And Rolls. https://www.averydixon.com/

This year Apple Music celebrated Black History Month across the service by spotlighting the rhythms of New Orleans, home of Super Bowl LIX. After the big game festivities wrapped, two local legends found time to call up Ebro and share their own Messages straight from the heart of NOLA: Mannie Fresh and Trombone Shorty. In this Black History Month wrap-up special, Ebro compiles both interviews into one episode celebrating the heart of the Big Easy.Listen to Mannie Fresh and Trombone Shorty's Message playlists, exclusively on Apple Music.

The Kansas City Chiefs couldn't make history with a three-peat, but Kendrick Lamar certainly did. The Grammy and Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper delivered a halftime show for the ages, calling out the current administration while featuring Samuel L. Jackson as Uncle Sam to narrate his bold performance. Lamar also brought out SZA and surprised fans with an appearance from Serena Williams, while Drake's reported attempt to block the performance through Universal Music Group failed. The pre-show was a love letter to New Orleans and Black History Month, featuring performances by Ledisi, Trombone Shorty, Jon Batiste, and Harry Connick Jr. And of course, congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles on their Super Bowl victory! This summer I headed West, back to my previous Eagle County, CO homebase, to spend 3 months working as much as possible, so as to pay off all my bills from the previous 3 months ;) I did work almost 6 days a week for those 3 months, AND paid off all my prior months bills, but I also ended up playing almost as much as I worked ;) I am definitely a LIVE MUSIC LOVER and this Summer "Tour" 2024 certainly filled my soul with some SUPER SWEET SOUNDS! Louisiana was in the news recently for enforcing each classroom post the 10 Commandments - while their schools are dead last - at 50th in education. Again symbolic band-aids instead of looking at the cause and finding a cure. Some people don't know their vice from sin - and they probably live in Louisiana with that education system! But the culture and the music and the food, it's a walking city vibe, and maybe most importantly it's the people who never give up - hell the Saints won a Super Bowl! Everything good and bad is available in the Big Easy. Not sure if that makes the city better or worse. But I love it, mostly for its past, but also the present, and of course, its constant perseverance. Moore launched his solo career in 1998 and has nine records under his own name, with the most recent being "With You In Mind: The Songs of Allen Toussaint." Throughout his 25-year career, Moore has played and/or recorded with a diverse group of artists, including Maceo Parker, Joss Stone, Irma Thomas, Leo Nocentelli and George Porter (of the Meters), Tom Morello (of Rage Against the Machine), Corrosion of Conformity, Donald Harrison Jr., Nicholas Payton, Trombone Shorty, Skerik, Charlie Hunter, Robert Walter, Will Bernard, Ivan Neville, Anders Osborne, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. DMB ended their mini fall tour in epic fashion with two-night stands at Mohegan Sun and Madison Square Garden. Nolan went to MSG N2 with friend of the pod Alex and witnessed one of the best shows they've seen - featuring incredible rarities like Spoon, Captain and Last Stop, phenomenal guest spots from Mark Whitfield, Cory Wong and Trombone Shorty, and an insane after-party with Ari Fink. Tune in for our reactions to the last U.S. shows of the year - and Happy Thanksgiving!

In 2022 Moore started a new project with Grammy award winning guitarist and producer Eric Krasno. The Krasno / Moore Project's current record is “Book of Queens”. Throughout his 25 year career, Moore has played and or recorded with a diverse group of artists including Maceo Parker, Joss Stone, Irma Thomas, Leo Nocentelli and George Porter (of the Meters),Tom Morello (of Rage Against the Machine), Corrosion of Conformity, Donald Harrison Jr., Nicholas Payton, Trombone Shorty, Skerik, Charlie Hunter, Robert Walter, Will Bernard, Ivan Neville, Anders Osborne and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Les Claypool (Primus) to name a few. With a bachelor's degree in music and business from Loyola University, Moore stays involved in education by constantly presenting clinics and teaching master classes and private lessons all over the world. He has released two books and three video projects. His book Groove Alchemy was picked by Modern Drummer as one of the top 25 instructional drum books of all time. To continue with his passion for teaching and to become more closely connected with his students, he recently launched his own online drum academy, StantonMooreDrumAcademy.com. #IndependentAmericans WILL determine the 2024 presidential election. Especially in swing states. We are the largest, fastest-growing and most powerful group of voters in America. 50% of vets are independents. 60% of young people. We are free agents—and every candidate will have to earn our votes. But beyond the race for President, the independent movement is real, diverse and growing fast. Fueled by disgust with the two parties, generational change, #OpenPrimaries and other election reform, and a new generation of truly, authentically independent leaders, the future of American politics is independent. Independent doesn't mean the middle. It means none of the above. It's not a new party. It's no party. Because America is not a party. It's a mission. #IndependentAmericans are rising up. We may not be ready to win the White House yet. But more and more independent leaders are emerging and winning at every other level of American politics. And our guest coming up is the best and most powerful recent example. He's a man who is more than a breath of fresh air. He's a hurricane of it. A hurricane of hope. A storm of positivity that has hit Colorado Springs, Colorado, and will soon spread nationwide. He's the newly-elected independent Mayor of Colorado Springs. He is Mayor Yemi Mobolade (@yemiformayor). Yemi joins our host, national security and political analyst, 9/11 First Responder and Army veteran Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff), for another fun and fiery episode of the best independent politics, news and culture show in America. Every episode of Independent Americans is independent light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. It's content for the 49% of Americans that call themselves independent. And delivers the Righteous Media 5 Is: independence, integrity, information, inspiration and impact. Always with a unique focus on national security, foreign affairs and military and vets issues. This is another pod to help you stay vigilant. Because vigilance is the price of democracy. What a thrill it is to be able to share this chat with the legendary Ivan Neville.Ivan joined Jeff and Matt for a lengthy conversation to discuss his new album, Touch My Soul. He was also quite generous about sharing stories from many different corners of his career. Touch My Soul is an incredible musical journey featuring guest spots from Bonnie Raitt, Michael McDonald, Trombone Shorty -- and both Aaron and Cyril Neville. Music fans will dig this album, we guarantee that. Our thanks to Ivan for taking the time to chat. You can find more information regarding Touch My Soul here at Ivan's official website.
On his second album released earlier this year, Love You Anyway, Grammy-nominated and Nashville-based R&B artist Devon Gilfillian sets today's political activism against a backdrop of stunning soul music that finds inspiration both from the past and the future. Having gained acclaim touring with a genre-spanning list of icons (from Mavis Staples to Michael McDonald), he recently told NPR that his music could be viewed as "a pill wrapped in peanut butter": Sneaking in a message, while calling everyone out to the dancefloor. Before hitting the road this month on separate tours with My Morning Jacket, Grace Potter and Trombone Shorty, Devon spends today discussing his obsession with Pharrell's production work, why his love for vinyl flourished in his teens, and his recent performance in support of the Tennessee Three, on the steps of the state capitol. We also learn how a conversation with Chaka Khan led to him recording Marvin Gaye's legendary album What's Going On front-to-back, for a special vinyl-only release. You can find Love You Anyway wherever you get music, and visit devongilfillion.com for tour dates, socials and more.
