PREMIERE: DJ Spider - Incineration Of Years And Truth [Spinning Plates]

Spinning Plates welcomes New Yorker DJ Spider onto its roster to kick off 2022 with his ‘Enter The Void' EP, backed by a remix from Phil Moffa aka The Butcha. Rob Hampton, better known to most as DJ Spider, has been releasing his twisted take on Techno and experimental electronica for over a decade on the likes of The Trilogy Tapes, REKIDS, Vanguard Sound! and Berceuse Heroique as well as his and Dakini's own Plan B Recordings and its sub-labels BTU and Sublevel Sounds. Here he joins the roster of Spinning Plates, the London-based label that's established itself as a go to purveyor for leftfield leaning Techno, Electro and more. ‘Incineration Of Years And Truth', our premiere for today, completes the EP, edging things into a dubby territory courtesy of smooth chord sequences, spiraling echoes and bumpy, reduced drums. DJ SPIDER: This record is dedicated to my good friend Mike Huckaby. He planned on remixing "Incineration of Years and Truth" back when I originally made it in 2011, but we never got around to actually making that happen. I'm also honored to have my other close friend Phil Moffa on remix duties. There were many sessions in Phil's studio (Butcha Sound Studio, NYC) where we used to jam with Mike whenever he would come to New York to DJ or hang out. We used to play with synthesizers for hours. We were all good friends and it was perfect to have Phil on this record as well! Mike taught and inspired us to have fun with making music and push ourselves to be the best that we can be. We will love him forever. https://soundcloud.com/djspidernyc https://www.facebook.com/djspidernyc https://soundcloud.com/spinning-plates-records https://www.instagram.com/spinning_plates_records/ www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_itsdelayed_ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed

On Monday's episode, Rob and I discussed how to effectively manage Filipino VAs and foster a long-lasting working relationship with them. Now that we've got that covered, we move on to the second part of Rob's problem: scaling his business. This is a topic we are well-versed in for two reasons: we managed to double our revenue last year, and we are actively trying to replicate that growth this year. We've revamped our systems and put simpler processes in place to try and achieve that growth. In this episode Rob and I talk about how he can do the same for his business. Some conversation points: Systems and processes he needs to put in place for himself and his team Product launch process put together by Jacqueline, our Director of eCommerce Why a “minimum viable product launch” is a bad idea Perfecting product photography Maximizing visuals for customers who don't read More efficient returns process Supplier agreements and warranty claims Other things to pay attention to when scaling We'd like to thank Rob for joining us in this episode, and I definitely had a blast talking to him. Have you ever hired a Filipino VA and was so pleased with them that you felt like you hit the jackpot? They're incredibly talented, they get things done the way you want, they're just downright fantastic. With them helping you out, you get more time to focus on business direction and you couldn't be happier. But then, and seemingly for no reason, your incredible VA suddenly disappears. What just happened? Rob Hampton, our guest for today's Under the Hood episode, experienced just that. This, along with many other problems such as declining work quality and failing to communicate regularly, is not an uncommon problem in the outsourcing world. But building a team of loyal Filipino VAs is not impossible. It boils down to one thing: understanding their culture. We've managed to put together a team of awesome Filipino VAs who've been with us for a while now. They've done tremendous things for our business and we would not have grown so much in recent years if not for their help. Rob and I discuss how to build such a team, and how to manage VAs in a way that fosters a long-term relationship. In more detail, we discuss: what his niche is and how he came about selling on Amazon his early experience getting betrayed by his own supplier and how he bounced back from that his experience hiring Filipino VAs cultural differences between Westerners and Filipinos how much freedom to give them while still holding them accountable rules to set when working with a VA for the first time pay structure, and whether VAs should be paid a fixed monthly/bi-weekly salary or paid hourly instead benefits such as 13th month pay, paid time off, and company lunches tips and best practices on communication Hiring people is challenging, but when you hire someone with a different culture from the other side of the globe, things get a lot more difficult. Filipinos in particular are known to be loyal and have a knack for making people happy, and it's not in their nature to knowingly do things that will disappoint you. If you put in the effort to understand their culture, traits, and customs, they will stick with you and do wonders for your business. Resources mentioned: EcomCrew courses Under the Hood Episode 96: Our Philippines Team – Hiring and Maintaining a Team of Rockstar VAs If you want to be featured on your own episode and get free business advice from us, sign up to be an Under the Hood guest here. Until then, happy selling.
