The last few years have been dominated by the global fight against COVID-19 and research efforts continue in search of new treatments and vaccines to save lives.Melbourne-based Dimerix Bioscience is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company investigating a new treatment for respiratory complications as a result of COVID 19 – which was selected for inclusion in the global WHO-endorsed clinical study REMAP-CAP investigating community-acquired pneumonia.Through MTPConnect's Biomedical Translation Bridge (BTB) Program, Dimerix was awarded $1 million in MRFF-funding for this COVID-19 related project. MTPConnect host Caroline Duell catches up with Dr Robert Shepherd, Research & Development Director at Dimerix Bioscience to find out more about this potential new treatment, the benefits and challenges of being part of a unique adaptive clinical trial program and how they managed to manufacture doses for the trial during the pandemic. https://dimerix.com/Uniquest is a Venture Partner in the BTB Program, and Cecile Francis, Uniquest's BTB Program Project Manager joins the discussion. https://uniquest.com.au/
For the 50th anniversary of the IRPP, we are exploring the biggest public policy challenges facing Canada through a series of panel discussions held at some of Canada's major policy schools. This episode is a recording of our discussion on shifts in regulatory governance held on March 22, 2022 in collaboration with Carleton University's School of Public Policy and Administration. What is the role of regulation in government policy and how is it changing? How will the COVID-19 pandemic effect how we craft policy? How can regulation be better coordinated at different levels? Moderated by Robert Shepherd of Carleton University, our panel features Darcy Gray, the Chief of Listuguj First Nation, Catherine MacQuarrie, a School fellow of Carleton's School of Public Policy and Administration, Professor Alexandra Mallett of Carleton, and Kevin Stringer of Carleton University. Each panellist delivers a presentation on an aspect of regulatory governance, followed by a Q&A.

Interesting discussion with Prof.Robert Shepherd, the head of the organic robotics laboratory at Cornell University. We have recorded the first episode of the soft robotics podcast with Robert at RSS 2019. In part 2: Robert shares how the environment plays a significant role in designing soft robot energy density? How we can increase surface area to volume ratio for securing input energy are filled? Why we cannot make DEA at large volumes? Why the modeling of the scaled-down soft systems is hard? Can the material reprogram and compute itself so that it can respond in environment stimulus in different ways depending on the task it performing: shape face changing material, dissipative materials. How we can design an integrated sensing and actuating system perform efficiently? I hope you enjoy the podcast episode -:)
PASTOR ROBERT SHEPHERD makes his third appearance on the show and sharing with all of us how to build yours ministry and why your ministry is not successful.
Ryan Vogel of Utah Valley Univ on the DOJ, politics, and Trump. Robert Shepherd of Cornell Univ on sweaty robots. Carl Butz, The Mountain Messenger on reviving a dying local newspaper. David-James Gonzales, Eric Ruiz Bybee, Grace Soelberg, and Don Izekor of Brigham Young Univ on whiteness in America. Gabriel Filippelli of Indiana Univ-Purdue Univ Indianapolis on a proposed EPA transparency rule.
Robert Shepherd: “Embodied energy: How could soft robots perform operations for longer periods in a reliable and untethered way? How to reduce the complexity required for the control system that's operating the robot?”.
In this episode, we interviewed Robert Sheperd, associate professor at Cornell University, Rob Shepherd received his B.S. (2002) and Ph.D. (2010) in Material Science at the University of Illinois where his research focused on developing polymeric and colloidal suspensions as 'inks' for 3D printers. He also fabricated microfluidic devices to synthesize single micron to millimeter -scale parts (e.g., glass and silicon microgears). Concurrently to performing this research, he received his M.B.A. (2009) at U of I and started a company, worked with several other startups, and gained significant experience with the details of market research, financials, accounting issues, and legal aspects of entrepreneurship. In 2010, he continued his education as a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard University in George Whitesides's research group in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology. In this group, he developed pneumatic actuators in soft elastomers that took the form of a machine capable of moving in multiple gaits: walking and undulating. These actuators have also been used for low-cost manipulators, and in concert with a microfluidic system for biomimetic camouflage & display.
