Acts 9:1-19 English Standard Version The Conversion of Saul 9 But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. 3 Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him. 4 And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” 5 And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 6 But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.” 7 The men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one. 8 Saul rose from the ground, and although his eyes were opened, he saw nothing. So they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. 9 And for three days he was without sight, and neither ate nor drank. 10 Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.” 11 And the Lord said to him, “Rise and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul, for behold, he is praying, 12 and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him so that he might regain his sight.” 13 But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints at Jerusalem. 14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name.” 15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.” 17 So Ananias departed and entered the house. And laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you came has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized; 19 and taking food, he was strengthened.

The Power of God for Salvation (Acts 16:14-34) by Harvest Church
To Be Continued...|Chris McGarvey
The early church set the bar for what it looked like to walk in the fullness of our salvation. The original disciples were just ordinary people, made into extraordinary servants of God by the power of Christ. Listen as we marvel at the extent they all went to in their service to God and learn how we might measure up to the original, Christian standard.

During suffering, it's easy to turn inward. We think that giving attention to these things will help us feel better. Instead, Jesus gives us a greater purpose. Even our suffering can be leveraged as an opportunity to testify of salvation in Jesus and we find satisfaction and joy in Him. We see this example in Paul's life. Just after taking a beating, Paul takes the opportunity to share the gospel.
Dr. Chris Jones
At the end of Acts 22, we read Paul's sharing of the gospel, and his witness to Jesus. If we are to witness with confidence for Christ we need to the story of Jesus, and we need to know our personal story of faith in Christ.

We begin the new year with our new sermon series Romans: The Power of God for Salvation Acts 19:8-41 | Blake Arnoult
Because the church had both Jews and Gentiles, there was a great dispute that arose. Some Jews maintained that the Gentiles must be circumcised. As always happens with legalism, the rules keep growing and expanding. When the controversy involves what is required to be saved, it becomes a serious doctrinal question. So the church sends Paul and Barnabas to Jerusalem to decide the issue. What is required for salvation? Why would Paul circumcise Timothy? Why is circumcision so important to the Jews? On which issues should we compromise vs. not compromise? Support the show
Message from Rev. Josh Valdix on November 6, 2022
Paul preaches a message during his first missionary journey. Interesting to note, Peter and Paul preached the same gospel, and the same gospel was preached some fifteen years after Pentecost as was preached on that first day. The challenge of his message for his audience is the same challenge for today...Whose salvation will you embrace? God's salvation? Or your own?ACTS: What Makes Us Who We Are?In 2022 we began a verse-by-verse study through the New Testament Book of Acts. This book records for us the acts of the apostles after the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the formation of the first church. Going through the Book of Acts will help us identify what makes us who we are and helps us chart our course forward.

#wayoflife #christisrisen #christistheanswer #gospel Paul writes, "If the dead are not raised, 'Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.'" (1 Corinthians 15:32). This could be a citation of Isaiah 22:13 where the securing of one's self in the flesh is what establishes life. In other words there is no spiritual dimension. This can also be a summary of the Epicureans who basically wanted to life to the fullest. This means that for Paul if there is no resurrection there is no Christianity, there is no Holy Spirit dwelling in man, and it ultimately means we have no life. This quote is important for this provides the backdrop for Peter giving his defense for healing a crippled beggar. He did not engage in this miracle because of his piety or faith, but only in the power of Jesus of Nazareth whom they crucified, but God has raised from the dead. The resurrection does not just conquer death, but confirms that we are reconciled to God. It means that we are secured in heaven's glory. It means that right now we walk as the Lord's new temple building waiting for the full perfection.

In the first major public address given by the Apostle Paul in the book of Acts, we find Paul addressing the synagogue and publicly declaring the direct ways in which the Christ, the one both crucified and resurrected, is the one spoken of and fulfilling the scriptures which they know and cherish. Even if I caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it. Though I did regret it--I see that my letter hurt you, but only for a little while-- 고린도후서 7:9 지금은 기뻐합니다. 여러분이 하나님의 뜻에 맞게 아파하였으니, 결국 여러분은 우리로 말미암아 손해를 본 것은 없습니다. yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. I. 회개의 Steps (The steps of Repentance) 1. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselve and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 2. (Be Sorry!) After I strayed, I repented; after I came to understand, I beat my breast. I was ashamed and humiliated because I bore he disgrace of my youth.' Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. 3. (Change your direction!) First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and to the Gentiles also, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds. II. 회개의 결과 (The Results of Repentance) 1. When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 2. (Restoration)

Acts introduces the church age with the spread of the gospel and a flurry of Holy Spirit activity. Luke makes it clear to us from page one of the New Testament church that the work of salvation in the hearts of the elect is a supernatural event. God alone receives the due glory for the amazing conversion testimonies of His people from the first sermons of His Spirit filled apostles to the echos of their appeals from gospel preachers to this day. The book of Acts chronicles the obedience of the early church to take up their cross and proclaim Christ to the nations, even if the cost was incredibly high. We ourselves are continuing fruits of their ancient labors, and today we follow their example in baptizing new converts to the Christian faith in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Our text today powerfully reminds us that this event is significant. It represents the culmination of the Spirit's sovereign and miraculous cultivating Word going before, preparing hearts to receive the Word of God, anointing the preaching of the scriptures, appointing Godly parents, preparing conversations, illustrating truths of scripture through discipline and instruction... indeed opening eyes of the spiritually blind and calling forth resurrection spiritual life from the deadness of sinful hearts. Let us consider a textbook conversion account from the biography of the early church...
