In Matthew 13, Jesus teaches about the importance of the soil upon which the seeds of the gospel are spread. What kind of soil is your heart? If you prefer to listen, stream, and/or watch, join us and subscribe on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@kingwoodmethodist
In Matthew 13:10-17, Jesus explains why he teaches in parables. The significance of his teaching deepens for us when we understand that Jesus is quoting from Isaiah 6. What keeps you from seeing, hearing and understanding these words of Jesus that “come alongside” his teachings? Our guest preacher for the day is Mwenge Muyombi, lay leader of the Kigoma District in the Tanzania GMC Annual conference. Mwenge's father brought Methodism to Tanzania in 1989 and Mwenge shares how the Holy Spirit empowers the church to feed the orphans and widows and start churches under trees. Tanzanian leadership is largely creating local GMC churches from nothing and bringing people to faith in Christ by sharing the love of Christ. Acts 1:1-11 describes the culmination of the ministry of Christ in His Ascension. We learn why it so critical for us to move from staring up to the sky to getting in the “wheelbarrow”. Luke 24 records two on the road to Emmaus having an unexpected encounter with the resurrected Christ. Their response illustrates that the story we live in, and the story that lives in us, is the story we live out. In John 21:15-25, we see the resurrected Christ commissioning Peter rather than criticizing him. Peter remains mostly like we see him throughout the scriptures, and thankfully Jesus remains unchanged in his grace and love. In John 21, seven disciples encounter Jesus in the course of an ordinary fishing trip. Like those disciples, our way of doing things often doesn't work. Also like them, Jesus is able to supply our needs - and our greatest need is just to be with Jesus. Revelation 12 testifies that we as believers will overcome by the blood of the lamb and words of our testimony. Today we hear about the words of our testimonies from three of our graduating seniors. Lets see what God has done! If you prefer to listen, stream, and/or watch, join us and subscribe on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@kingwoodmethodist
We refer to him as "Doubting Thomas", but he didn't just doubt. Today we look at the other times in the Gospel of John where Thomas stepped forward, was attentive and bold. Peter denied Jesus, but we don't call him "Denying Peter"; rather, we look at the whole of Peter's life, not just a moment. Mark 11 records Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and the day becomes known as Palm Sunday. But Jesus wasn't the only one who came into Jerusalem just before Passover. Will we join the Jesus parade or the Pilate parade? If you prefer to listen, stream, and/or watch, join us and subscribe on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@kingwoodmethodist
In Luke 19:1-10 Jesus enters Jericho and sees Zacchaeus in a sycamore-fig tree. Though despised by many, we find between the lines of the text that his encounter with Jesus transforms his life. The Good News of the Gospel is that Jesus sees us and calls us by name. If you prefer to listen, stream, and/or watch, join us and subscribe on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@kingwoodmethodist
In Luke 4 Jesus reveals his identity in his hometown of Nazareth in fulfillment of Isaiah 61. No one is surprised by his claim, even with the familiarity of knowing him as Jospeh's son. But everything changes when Jesus recalls the history of Elijah and Elisha. Won't you just let Jesus love you? In John 1 we find the foundational statements of who Jesus is a the second person of the Triune God- one Substance but 3 persons. A resilient faith is built upon embracing the truth that each of us is an intentional creation of God. Today's sermon in our series on “Resilient Faith” is based on passages in Ecclesiastes and Matthew that illuminate the importance of building a resilient faith by being connected to God through prayer and each other through community. Throughout scripture, God is consistently reaching to lead his people to be who He created them to be. In the season of the exiles returning to Jerusalem, God uses Ezra to call the people back to faithfulness. We also find a peculiar emphasis in what this means in the Wesleyan Methodist heritage as “Scriptural Holiness”.
