Sermon: “Christ in the Passover” – Avi Snyder, Jews for Jesus The morning worship service of First Baptist Church of Kearney, Nebraska.
04-06-25 Sermon: “Christ in the Passover” – Avi Snyder, Jews for Jesus The morning sermon of First Baptist Church of Kearney, Nebraska.
St. Luke United Methodist Church—Bryn Mawr, PA. Centering on the life and legacy of Sojourner Truth, this message challenges traditional interpretations of 2 Corinthians 5:16–21 that promote cultural conformity in the name of Christian unity. Min. Harris reclaims reconciliation as sacred coexistence, not submission, through Africological theology, womanist spirituality, and bold biblical exegesis. From the African origins of humanity to the silenced wisdom of the poor and prophetic voices of Black women, this sermon invites listeners to reimagine what it truly means to be “new creations” in Christ. Tune in and discover how genuine reconciliation allows every culture to worship God without erasure or apology.
As we grieve, lament, and question the pervasive presence of death in this world, our perspective is that of Mary and Martha: we wait between the promise of resurrection and its possession. But we do not wait in vain. Christ has in fact been raised from the dead, and his resurrection guarantees both the resurrection of all believers and the triumph of God's kingdom. Christ precedes and makes possible the fact of Scripture, both in its writing and formation, but also in the continuing reading and exegesis of Scripture. This fact is the unifying center of the faith, in answer to the multiplicities of Christian faiths now exposed in this politic moment, pointing to a deep theological crisis. “Christ Alone” Hebrews 4:14-5:10 October 27, 2024 Dr. Geoff Chang Sermon Application [file] Hebrews 4:14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. [15] For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. [16] Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 5:1 For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. [2] He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness. [3] Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as he does for those of the people. [4] And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. [5] So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”; [6] as he says also in another place, “You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.” [7] In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. [8] Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. [9] And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, [10] being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.
Throughout the book of Romans, the Apostle Paul compares and contrasts two different ways people try to be found righteous before God. One is a lot of work for the individual and ultimately never works. The other is counting on and trusting in the completed work of Jesus Christ and never fails. Antinomies, dualisms, alienation, and divide, are reflected in every realm of human thought from the psychological, the philosophical, gender relations, and even religion. Male/female, Plato/Aristotle, Spirit/flesh, sociology of religion/religious studies all represent a partial truth grounded in the lie of division and antagonism. Jesus Christ is the singular synthesis, bringing together that which cannot synthesize itself, thus he is healing, fulfilling and completing the fractured human image. Become a Patron! Feast of Christ the King, 2023.
Given on the feast of Christ the King, 2023; the Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost.
In the second half of verse 2 of our text, John says that Jesus is the propitiation, “not for our [sins] only, but also for those of the whole world.” This little phrase has sparked a lot of theological controversy. Those who oppose the Reformed (Calvinist) view of salvation say that this verse refutes the doctrine of “limited atonement” - that Christ died only for the elect. However, Calvinists rightly respond by pointing out that this verse cannot mean that Christ actually satisfied God's wrath on behalf of every person, or else everyone would be saved. Scripture is clear that the wrath of God abides (remains) on those who do not obey Jesus (John 3:36). Thus they argue that the “whole world” refers to God's elect from every tribe, tongue, and nation, not to every person who has ever lived.
“When sinners leave the service of Satan and the friendship of the world, that they make peace with God and join Israel, they must not marvel if the world hate them, if their former friends become foes. By such methods Satan discourages many who are convinced of their danger, and almost persuaded to be Christians, but fear the cross. These things should quicken us to [ask] God for protection, help, and deliverance.” -Matthew Henry
