When Jeff Sandefer and his wife, Laura, started Acton Academy in 2010 with a single school in Austin, Texas, they had no idea that their network of schools would grow to 325 campuses in 26 countries just 13 years later. In this episode, Sandefer, a former oil and gas executive who has taught entrepreneurship at the college level, explains why every child is a “genius” who must embark on their own “hero's journey” and why he believes Acton's model has gained so much traction among “parent entrepreneurs.” (Recorded October 23, 2023.)

During his time as youth pastor at Crossroads Church (Duncanville, Texas), Jackson began to work with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization. The favor he received from teachers, administrators, coaches--and most importantly students--opened the door for Jackson to lay the groundwork for students to launch their own outreach on public school campuses. He simply called them Jesus Clubs and they have struck spiritual gold across several campuses in the DFW area, including Duncanville High School, the largest high school in America.Jackson currently serves as the Director of Youth Alive Ministries (affiliated with the North Texas Assemblies of God District) where he plans to take the Jesus Club concept well beyond the scope of the DFW area. Jeff Sandefer lives a dual life as an entrepreneur and a Socratic Guide. As an entrepreneur, he founded his first company at age 16 and went on to found or co-found seven successful businesses. As a Socratic teacher at the University of Texas, Jeff's students five times voted him the school's Outstanding Teacher and Businessweek named him one of the top Entrepreneurship professors in America. Jeff went on to co-found the Acton School of Business, an MBA program perennially ranked by the Princeton Review among the best in the nation. In 2012 The Economist honored him as one of the top fifteen Business School professors in the world.
