When Jeff Sandefer and his wife, Laura, started Acton Academy in 2010 with a single school in Austin, Texas, they had no idea that their network of schools would grow to 325 campuses in 26 countries just 13 years later. In this episode, Sandefer, a former oil and gas executive who has taught entrepreneurship at the college level, explains why every child is a “genius” who must embark on their own “hero's journey” and why he believes Acton's model has gained so much traction among “parent entrepreneurs.” (Recorded October 23, 2023.)

This week's episode was just fun, plain and simple. I laughed a ton while we were recording them, I laughed again when editing the show together, it's just a good time with three incredibly impressive realtors that I have the utmost respect for. Our featured partners this week are Black Tie Moving and  Ruby Red Media Bubba Sandefer was employee #1 at Emmett Baird Realty and he feels a deep connection to that brokerage but also the path he took to land there. He is one of those people leaves an impression long after he's left a conversation and 9 out of 10 times it's overwhelmingly positive. Our conversation about his path in the business was great and something I'm sure you'll enjoy hearing as well. There are many times in our careers when we can let comparison slip in and judge ourselves against some of our peers in the industry that may be killing it. The snapshot that we have of their lives is often not near as rosy when you've walked their walk though and with that in mind it was an honor to be rejoined by my friends Shannan McWaters from The Firm and Michael Jacques with Reid Realtors for a segment I titled “Failing Forward”.  As always our show is powered by The Jason Woods Home Loan Team and Sophie Sandlin Raines who are two awesome loan officers with Community Mortgage.  To connect with Bubba, you can call or text his cell at 901-319-0747. To connect with Shannan, social media is definitely the way to go by searching for @shannanmcwatersrealtor on your social media platform of choice.  To connect with Michael, you can text or call him (but you better leave a voicemail) at 901-246-8916 or find him on social media @ReidRealtors  If you need to connect with the show or reach Dane for any of your home insurance needs, you can email him at dwilliams@shoemakerins.com

In this episode, we bring you a keynote address that was delivered as part of the 2017 Education and Freedom Conference, featuring Jeff Sandefer, co-founder of Acton Academy, a new and innovative K–12 school that offers a nontraditional approach to education—an alternative to standardized testing and rote memorization. Sandefer opens his address by questioning the typical education model: “Common Core, standardized tests, control, regurgitation, [and] oversight—19th-century solutions in the 21st century. Perhaps this makes sense to some until you ask the question, ‘What if children really are far more capable than we ever imagined?'” Subscribe to our podcasts Acton Academy Jeff Sandefer — Acton Academy Co-Founder A Field Guide for the Hero's Journey — Acton Bookshop Ian Rowe on “Agency”: Empowering all children to achieve success — Acton Line Podcast See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Has host Becky Hennesy finally met her match in conversational enthusiasm? Guest Jackson Sandefer gives her a run for her money as they discuss how God is using him to revolutionize and reform the way local churches and ministries can reach the youth of the DFW area. During his time as youth pastor at Crossroads Church (Duncanville, Texas), Jackson began to work with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization. The favor he received from teachers, administrators, coaches--and most importantly students--opened the door for Jackson to lay the groundwork for students to launch their own outreach on public school campuses. He simply called them Jesus Clubs and they have struck spiritual gold across several campuses in the DFW area, including Duncanville High School, the largest high school in America.Jackson currently serves as the Director of Youth Alive Ministries (affiliated with the North Texas Assemblies of God District) where he plans to take the Jesus Club concept well beyond the scope of the DFW area. Jeff Sandefer lives a dual life as an entrepreneur and a Socratic Guide. As an entrepreneur, he founded his first company at age 16 and went on to found or co-found seven successful businesses. As a Socratic teacher at the University of Texas, Jeff's students five times voted him the school's Outstanding Teacher and Businessweek named him one of the top Entrepreneurship professors in America. Jeff went on to co-found the Acton School of Business, an MBA program perennially ranked by the Princeton Review among the best in the nation. In 2012 The Economist honored him as one of the top fifteen Business School professors in the world. Jeff is a graduate of the Harvard Business School, where he served for over twenty years on the school's governing committees. He was a longtime director of the Philanthropy Roundtable and National Review magazine and one of the youngest members ever elected to the Texas Business Hall of Fame. Sandefer has worked with entrepreneur-teachers to build a nationally acclaimed entrepreneurship program, winning numerous teaching honors in the process.
