Host Becky Hennesy brings on a new friend and reformer to the podcast. Her name is Deja Ard and her journey to launching a life-changing childcare center is incredible. It's a unique facility because it is specifically designed to assist children diagnosed on the Austism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Deja is all too familiar with this special needs world after her own son  was diagnosed with ASD at age 2. At first she struggled to find answers to help her son's behavior/speech development. Deja explains to Becky how she went through a series of emotions such as denial, depression, stress, defeat, confusion, guilt, anger, helplessness and most of inadequacy. But her determination and perseverance paid off. Plus, a divinely-inspired mission trip to Costa Rica where she met a host of other parents with special needs children.  Deja returned from that trip with a vision to not just help her own son, but hundreds of other families experiencing the same challenges she had. The result was brand new childcare facility called Spectrum of Love Childcare Center located in Duncanville, Texas. As all true reformers do, Deja worked tirelessly to build relationships with others around her. Specifically, she connected with local Independent School Districts, non-profit organizations, and local governmental officials to give her guidance on how to base her programs on the development of functional skills so that children will be successful and independent in school, at home, and in life.Spectrum of Love Childcare Center classrooms are setup to model a structure vital to teaching functional skills within that academic environment. With Behavior Technicians leading classes and using Applied Behavior Analysis Techniques, Deja says unique students will be better equipped for a successful school year and home life. Since the late 1980s, Reggie has been a familiar name for many teenagers who have heard him speak in hundreds of school systems, churches, youth camps and other events around the nation. His impact for the Kingdom is so broad and wide it's nearly impossible to measure. He and Becky share about his latest move to the Dallas/Ft. Worth Texas region, where he's joined the Trinity Church pastoral staff. They also dive into how his role in the Kingdom has reformation roots that run deep into the hearts of America's youth.Links to Reggie's website: reggiedabbsonline.comBorn to an unwed teenager, Reggie was raised by foster parents until he was in the fourth grade, and then they officially adopted him and gave him the Dabbs name.As the Dabbs' reared Reggie, they instilled in him strong moral values, for which he is genuinely grateful. They also ingrained in him the fact that in every situation he faced, he had a choice. What he did with those choices was entirely up to him.In the sixth grade, Reggie began playing the saxophone and hated it. At the insistence of his parents he continued to practice and to play. Not until his freshman year in college did he actually enjoy the instrument, and today, he plays with fervor and expertise. After graduating from college, Reggie began his public speaking. During one speaking engagement, his host asked if he would be interested in addressing a high school assembly. From that small beginning in 1987, Reggie has become a popular public school speaker. When addressing a school assembly, Reggie talks to the kids in a humorous style about choices each of them has when faced with drugs, alcohol, suicide, etc. Reggie gets in kids faces and tells them that he never smoked a cigarette, never did drugs, never drank alcohol, because he chose not to. He assures them that they can make the same kinds of choices.Reggie talks to kids about family and how thankful they should be that they have families.  Most of all, Reggie drives home the fact that “You can never change your past, but you can change your future!”The Reformers Collective podcast is part of the expanding Charisma Podcast Network (CPN).  Click here to visit the CPN main page. What started as an inconvenient water leak under a bathroom sink in Annabelle's home has transformed into a flood of generosity across the north Texas area. That heart to help bring reformation in people's lives is called Furnishing Families of Texas and she's become 'Exhibit A' of how everyday people can help match an available resource to a real need. "In March 2018, we had a water disaster in our home that required us to remove the contents of a bedroom and give the furniture away," says Annabelle. "I called our local Rapid Rehousing program at The Center For Transforming Lives and within minutes they gave me the name of a woman who needed the bedroom set who was just moving into her first apartment."Annabelle and a friend with her that day soon found out that the woman's 7-year-old son didn't have a mattress and had actually never slept in a bed in his life.  Annabelle and her friend responded by saying "not on our watch!" Within a day the boy was sleeping in his very first mattress. Since then Furnishing Families of Texas has either purchased or negotiated the donation of over 300 beds, bedding, and housewares for single mothers and their children. What makes Annabelle's story even more amazing is that she operates strictly by a simple website and word of mouth to locate families who need helping hand with basic home furnishings. According in her website, the DFW Metroplex has one of the highest homeless, single mother family populations in the nation. Furnishing Families of Texas is committed to breaking the cycles of homelessness and generational poverty through teaching and experiential learning.Furnishing Families of Texas partners with local charities that help desperate families get a roof over their head. Their conversation reveals how The D.O.C. (Terry Lynn Curry) is currently experiencing a personal reformation on a spiritual level with God. In fact, he says something in this podcast that he had never publicly shared before concerning his new mission in life. (You'll have to listen to find out!)He and Becky talk openly about how God's mission for Terry never wavered even though he wasn't actively serving Him until very recently, when a divine revelation of who He is radically changed Terry's entire perspective on life. The D.O.C. was on his way to becoming a household name in the emerging rap culture in the late 1980s. But in November 1989, he was involved in a near-fatal auto accident. Curry was thrown out the rear window, slamming face-first into a tree. His injuries required 21 hours of plastic surgery, and he spent 2½ weeks in the hospital. He could not speak for about a month, and he was left with a different, raspier voice. It also altered the course of his musical career. No longer a primary voice on albums, he transitioned to becoming a song-writer for many of the most famous artists in American rap culture. Over the past 30 years, the D.O.C. has been widely recognized as one the OGs (original gangsters!) in rap music, even though he only produced a few minor albums after his accident. And for those who are curious: The D.O.C. stands for Dallas Oak Cliff! The Reformers Collective podcast is part of the expanding Charisma Podcast Network (CPN).  Click here to visit the CPN main page. Janet was actually engaged to be married to a man and was going through church-based pre-marital counseling. But one night when her fiance was working late, Janet was invited to hang out with another girl friend. Later, that friend invited Janet to go ahead and stay the night at her apartment. That evening turned out to be the beginning of a long journey. Janet fell prey to the friend's unexpected sexual advances. How is it possible that a grown woman who was completetly heterosexual into her 20s suddenly embraces the gay life? Becky investigates to find answers to how the power of freewill sinful choices can so quickly and easily plunge a church-going self-professed Christian into deep bondage.Today Janet operates a ministry to help others struggling to be set free from the grip of homosexuality. She's a firm believer that people are not born homosexual, but that all are born to a sinful nature and that homosexuality is one of the many ways sin expresses itself in people.Important links...Janet Boynes Ministries(Book) God and the LGBT CommunityBook) God and Sexuality: Truth and Relevance Without Compromise(Book): Called Out: A Former Lesbian's Discovery of FreedomSave the dates! Host Becky Hennesy has a heartwarming chat with her good friend Dehavilland Ford. She is a rising new voice in the realms of the prophetic and racial reconciliation. The insights Dehavilland shares with Becky are critical for the Body of Christ to hear in this hour. In the current struggle for the American church to experience racial reconciliation, Dehavilland explains the Biblical balance between righteousness and justice, the importance of reasoning together with others in the Body of Christ, embracing the concept of deep listening, and why it's a mistake to leave a long-standing relationship over a misunderstanding of each other's cultural background. Dehavilland also shares with Becky her remarkable journey to faith in Jesus. It's a wild ride worth a listen. Born to parents addicted to crack cocaine and other drugs, she was taken from her home and thrust into the foster care system. For four years, she lived with Chris Rock's family (yes that Chris Rock). Her story also includes undergoing a forced name change, searching for personal identity, living in shelters and eventually homeless on a park bench in New York City, experiencing the Toronto Blessing, and much more. Another highlight of their conversation is how Dehavilland discusses the delicate transition from being single in her 30s to instant motherhood after marrying Will Ford who had previous children from a prior marriage. Today Dehavilland and her husband Will operation a ministry called 818 The Sign. It's a global effort with a goal "to raise up a new generation of prophetic leaders by training them not only in the gifts of the spirit, but also in biblical righteousness and justice to tackle the issues facing the hour in which we live."Save the dates!
