The New South Wales public mental health system is buckling under pressure, as the state grapples with mass resignations by psychiatrists. Leaked hospital records from one of Sydney's major hospital emergency departments reveal some severely distressed patients are waiting up to three-and-a-half days for care. And there are now fears the entire system is on the brink of collapse.

Ever since the end of World War II, we have been hearing predictions and warnings about the upcoming Third World War. For almost 80 years the war drums have been beaten, and trillions invested in Mutual Assured Destruction, known as MAD. Not only nations and corporations that can profit from war, but even so-called prophets for profit have been selling imminent war for decades. Now, while the Bible is clear about wars and rumors of wars, too many Christians are obsessed to the point of not fulfilling their true calling. Also on the program, Jim Calhoun stops by to share some thoughts on why the instability in Eastern Europe. Now, do you believe in this ministry? As we seek discernment and the Lord's leading, there is often a need to wait on Him. But many of us struggle with impatience, which can be a result of the need for control and even a lack of wisdom. The Lord promises His goodness, kindness and faithfulness to those who fear Him, so He calls us to trust Him, and to wait for Him with all our soul. We can confidently do this because we know Who He is, and how He has worked in the past. But first, we have to yield our overconfidence in self, rejoicing in His help and protection.

Gill in her own words: “My name is Gill Castle, and in October 2011 I gave birth to my son, Sam, at 34 weeks gestation, a traumatic birth which resulted in a permanent stoma (colostomy). Over the following years I have set out to prove to myself, and others, what is achievable with a stoma, as initially I was presented with a lot of “no, you can't do that with one of those”. I also wanted to overcome the trauma of the birth, which resulted in the loss of my job as a police officer, and which forced me to create a new identity for myself. On my website I signpost people to all the amazing organisations out there who can help, like the Birth Trauma Association, the Masic Foundation, Purple Wings, Samaritans, Colostomy UK to name but a few. Am I superwoman? Absolutely 110% not. Lots of women suffer like me and come out the other side ok. But when you are experiencing such a load of shite there is often no one who has made it out onto the other side who is shouting about the good life that is possible. I want to be that person. I want to show that girl who was living through hell that it can turn out ok in the end. How will I do it? Simply by my actions. I will gladly, happily, discuss people's trauma with them, and discuss my own, in PM, I understand that talking and discussing helps. But I want to just SHOW you by everything I do, every smile I have, that you can be happy, you can do things. The same for people with stomas. But, this is also true for ANYONE. I want to sweep people along with my enthusiasm for life and encourage you all to just get OUT THERE and TRY something. Anything! We all have our own desires and goals. So many people say to me that they would “love” to do something “but I'm too scared” . WAIT UP! Have you actually tried it? How do you know then? I understand trauma, I understand pain, I understand fear. But right now I understand HOPE and JOY. That's it really, just me, doing my thing, being happy, being active and encouraging people to do to the same.” During this episode there is a lot of poo chat and very open and honest conversations about child birth injury and recovering from trauma. If you are not sure if you should listen to this episode- for what ever reason - I would encourage you to ask a friend to listen to it first to make sure it is suitable for where you are in your journey. We had a conversation with Kate Cameron on The Chris & Sandy Show. We talked about many things from family, music, sacrifices, she told some great stories to a whole lot more!Equal parts soul, grit, and grace, Kate Cameron's distinct and unique vocal sound lands somewhere between her Boston roots and her Nashville idols. At times you hear her mirroring soul and rock vocalists such as Susan Tedeschi or Aerosmith yet she also has the singer-songwriter sensibilities of those like Taylor Swift and Miranda Lambert. In 2015 Kate graduated from Berklee College of Music, earning a Bachelor of Music focused in Songwriting. Her time at Berklee allowed her to refine her musical chops before taking on Music City. Kate has been working the Nashville music scene ever since relocating by releasing self-written and co-produced artist projects. Kate spilts her time between Nashville, and South Florida. Her latest single “Wait Up” is a modern Nashville take on a classic soulful feel. The chorus reads, “I know they say a lady is supposed to wait for a man to call her baby but I can't take it, I know they say a lady is supposed to be chased…” is a campy yet bold message that somewhat mirrors back to a Shania Twain perception in a 90's boy band era. The pop acoustic feel and soulful rhythms are played in to embody a fun and empowering song that gives the feeling of wanting to go out on the town.

Canadian punk outfit Silverstein return today with their tenth studio album Misery Made Me, a collection of songs that dares the inner punk to not come out to play.Over a career spanning more than two decades Silverstein have been the voice for disenfranchised youth the world over, with their steadfast approach to music and refusal to confirm to passing fads and trends ensuring they stood the test of time.Vocalist Shane Told sat down to chat with HEAVY about the new album and how it came to be."We wrote this one in the pandemic and it was not an easy record to write,” he began. “Obviously, with everything that we all went through in Canada and Australia, literally the whole world went through a lot of darkness and that's pretty much what this record stems from. When we actually finished writing it and we got together in the studio and hung out together for the first time we had a blast making it. We got to experiment with a lot of cool, different sounds and really put together some unique songs. We're really happy with this album. I think there's something on here for everybody."The press release calls Misery Made Me a step back to Silverstein's punk and hardcore roots, a claim not refuted by Told."I think there's definitely some songs that would fit,” he agreed. “If you listen to a song like Die Alone, if you listen to Don't Wait Up, certainly those songs have elements of some throwback tone and vibe. I think that that's something that we like to do here and there. At the same time, we like to push forward and try to make new things as well. A song like The Altar/Mary, that's quite a bit experimental for us and quite a bit different, so I think it's a mixed bag. I think our older fans will definitely find this record to be for them, and I think that maybe people that are just discovering our band for the first time will also think we sound pretty modern too. It's a good place to be in and it does feel god to be able to make that kind of record."In the full interview, Shane talks more about the songs on the album, the balance between moving forward musically while still clinging onto your heritage, the title and how it fits in with the album, allowing themselves freedom to write and record, tour plans and more.
It's not often that you run into a tall black stranger, but that was exactly what happened to me one evening at a hotel bar when I sat alone, nursing a martini, and a handsome man offered me company. Sparks flew, and I suddenly didn't care about returning home right away to my husband.I reckon you'd love to know what occurred between me and the nameless black stranger. Maybe you should listen to my tale, and then you'll learn more. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

10I MAY SPEND a good deal of time in confused indecision about what I ought to do next, but when I have at last seen which way is the right way, I run right along it. The next day, in the cafeteria, when Stretch Mitgang passed Veronica and me, I asked her, “Why does he wink at you like that?” “Did he wink at me?” she asked. She smiled and looked in Stretch's direction; then she turned quickly back toward me and twisted the smile into a scowl. “Yes,” I said. “He winked at you.” “He's probably just being friendly, or he's teasing,” said Veronica. “Oh, no,” I said. “It's more than that. He thinks you're quite a little number.” “Do you think so?” asked Veronica. The smile returned.11“STRETCH! WAIT UP!” I called. I had overheard our teacher, Mrs. Collingswood, talking with Stretch about his work. I knew that he was having a difficult time with everything, but that he was particularly bad at arithmetic. He looked morose. “Stretch, I've got an idea for you,” I said. “Yeah?” he asked. He still looked morose, but his eyes flickered with a small hope. “Yeah,” I said. “I think you ought to study with someone and do your homework with someone. If you do that, it will help you keep your mind on your work.” “I do have trouble with that,” he said. “Are you going to work with me?” “I'm afraid I can't,” I said. “I'm too busy with my paper route. I was thinking of Veronica.” “Veronica?” “Sure,” I said. “That way, you'll be doing both of us a favor: me and you. You'll do better in arithmetic, and you'll be able to keep an eye on Veronica for me. See, I don't get to spend much time with her now that I have my paper route. I'm getting a little worried that some other mule might start kicking in my stall, you know what I mean?” “No,” he said. “Never mind,” I said. “It doesn't matter. Just try studying with Veronica and see if it helps.” “All right,” he said. “I can ask her the problems and she can give me the answers.” “I think she should ask you the problems instead, and you should figure out the answers,” I said. “How come?” he asked. “Because she's better at arithmetic than you are,” I said. “You're the one who needs practice.” He expelled one sharp laugh. “That's a joke, right?” he asked. “A joke?” “Yeah. Say—you're not making fun of me, are you?” “Oh,” I said, “now I see what you mean. You mean, what's the sense of Veronica asking you the problems if you don't know the answers? Is that it?” “Yeah, that's right.” “You and Veronica are going to get along really well, Stretch,” I said. In a corner of my mind, I did a little further development work on my vague hunch about the contributions of Frankie Paretti's parents to the vacant look that Frankie wore and arrived at a more coherent theory, a theory that allowed me to predict that Veronica and Stretch would be likely, if they were to have a child some day, to have one about as bright as Frankie, a theory that was to be confirmed several years later, during a high school biology class devoted to the work of Gregor Mendel. “Would you do me a favor when you go to Veronica's?” I asked. “What?” asked Stretch. “I was going to get Veronica some flowers, but I don't have time now. It's already late for me to be starting my route. Here's a dollar. Stop at Anderson's on the way to Veronica's and get whatever you think she'll like, okay?”You can begin reading at the beginning or you can catch up by visiting the archive or consulting the index to the Topical Guide. You can listen to the episodes on the Personal History podcast. Bob Boilen | October 27, 2021 It felt good to be home, if only for one night: home, in this case, being my Tiny Desk at NPR. We were about to film Neffy, our 2021 Tiny Desk Contest winner, at my desk at NPR headquarters. My corner of the NPR Music department looked just as I had left it almost 600 days ago; it's eerie inside and nearly nightfall outside. There's no audience for this Sunday evening concert, just our five-person Tiny Desk crew. We had filmed almost 1,000 Tiny Desk concerts before we abandoned the office in mid-March of 2020. What was then exciting yet routine now felt somewhat like a hallucination. For Neffy, it too was a dream: — a dream come true. Her joy during the recording was contagious. Neffy is Mecca Russell, a young singer who grew up around Arlington, Va., just across the river from NPR. Her Contest-winning song "Wait Up" is about living in New York, most recently during the COVID-19 outbreak, but yearning for home. In fact, Neffy did return to her childhood home, where she recorded her winning song with just her heartfelt voice and her guitar. "I wrote 'Wait Up' like many other songs I've written: sitting on the edge of my bed. But I didn't know it would be the song that would change my life," Neffy told us. "I got to sing lyrics I wrote in the privacy of my room late at night to a vast and loving audience is beyond my wildest dreams. For that, I am incredibly grateful, and quite frankly, still in disbelief." We hear three more songs from Neffy during her Tiny Desk concert. It's a small window into an outstanding talent, and we're so proud to share this extraordinary moment. This week we're going way, way back to biblical times: July 2001 when superstars *NSYNC released their 3rd (and final) album 'Celebrity'. As always, we go track by track to determine which of these songs have stood the test of time and which ones, well, haven't. Also discussed is Willow's new LP 'Lately I Feel Everything', Fergie's 'London Bridge' turning 15, and Laura Mvula's genre-bending EP '1/f'! At the SPA this week: CAROLINE POLACHEK (Bunny Is A Rider), CONAN GRAY (People Watching), LANY (Up to Me), ALESSIA CARA (Sweet Dream), CHELSEA CUTLER (Walking Away), DEADMAU5 & LIGHTS (When the Summer Dies), NORMANI (Wild Side feat. Cardi B), and SHAKIRA (Don't Wait Up).

Liz Astrof is a “stay-at-work mom,” by her own admission—and for her, “work” means writing sitcoms such as Two Broke Girls, King of Queens, and the infamous Roseanne reboot. To celebrate her great new essay collection, Don’t Wait Up, Liz gives us some inside scoop on the surprising sexism behind the scenes of the Roseanne reboot, the feminism of Two Broke Girls, and the future of comedy on television.
On this week's Roundabout Roundup, Catherine checked out TV writer Liz Astrof's memoir/essay collection/parenting book, Don't Wait Up: Confessions of a Stay-at-Work Mom (https://amzn.to/2MfKwaQ). Terri read "Evvie Drake Starts Over" (https://amzn.to/2LJiHs6) by Linda Holmes (http://www.thisislindaholmes.com/), which we'll discuss on a future Round 2 (http://www.parentingroundaboutpodcast.com/round2.html). And Nicole got to ooh and aah over Louis Vuitton goods (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/louis-vuitton-x-exhibition-tickets-63823081555)—while proudly wearing her $10 crossbody bag.
