The temple was built under Ahilyabai Holkar, the great queen of the Peshwa Empire. According to mythological beliefs, when Brahma was engrossed in the task of creating the universe, two demons, Madhu and Kaitabh, born from the ear of Bhagwan Vishnu, stole the Vedas to obstruct this task. Then Brahmaji came to the shelter of Lord Shri Hari. Vishnu Dev fought the battle that lasted for about five thousand years and finally Bhagwan Vishnu killed Madhu-Kaitabha and freed the Vedas from them. At the time of killing Madhu-Kaitabha, Sri Hari had established Siddhivinayak at this place to pray for the blessing of success and victory from Bhagwan Ganesha.   Learn more about your ad choices. Who were those 7 sons of Devki and Vasudev killed by Kans, the king of Mathura before the birth of Krishna? In the book Sri Hari-vamsa (2nd chapter of the Visnu-parva) it is written that Hamsa, Suvikrama, Kratha, Damana, Ripu-mardana and Krodha-hanta, who are known as the sad-garbha (six unborn children), are the sons of the demon Kalanemi. They performed intense austerities to worship the universal grandsire Brahma, unbeknown to their own grandfather Hiranyakasipu. Brahma, being satisfied with their extreme penances, granted them the boon of protection from death according to their prayers. Later, when Hiranyakasipu heard about this incident, he became enraged and said, “You have worshipped Brahma without letting me know, thus I have no affection for impudent people such as you. Your father himself will kill all of you. In your next life all six of you will take birth in the womb of Devaki and your father Kalanemi will be born as Kamsa. That very Kamsa will be your murderer.” Due to this curse of Hiranyakasipu they took birth in the womb of Devaki and were killed by Kamsa, the incarnation of Kalanemi. Prior to this, they were well known by the names Smara etc. and were the sons of Marici Muni. They laughed after seeing the universal grandsire Brahma running after his own daughter. Due to this offence of looking down on a great personality, they had to take birth as demons. In the Srimad Bhagavata (10.85.47-57) it is mentioned that due to the prayer of Mother Devaki, Sri Rama and Sri Krsna brought back her six dead sons from Sri Baliraja's Sutala-puri: marice sat putra urnayam prathame'ntare devah kam jahasur viksya sutam yabhitum udyatam tenasurim agan yonim adhunavadya-karmana hiranyakasipor jata nitas te yoga-mayaya devakya udare jata rajan kamsa-vihimsitah sa tan socaty atmajan svams ta ime'dhyasate'ntike itah etan pranesyamah matri soka apanuttaye tatah sapat vinirmuktah lokam yasyanti vijjvarah smarah udgithah parisvangah patangah ksudrabhrt ghrni sadime mat prasadena punah yasyanti sat gatim This means that after going to Sutala-puri Sri Krsna told Bali, the king of the Daityas, “O lord of the Daityas, during the manvantara of Svayambhuva, six demigod-like sons were born in the womb of Urna-devi, the wife of Maharsi Marici. Seeing Brahma running after his own daughter (namely Sarasvati) they mocked him. As a result of this sin – hiranyakasipu saksat kalanemi-ksetre – they took demoniac births as the sons of Kalanemi who was the son of Hiranyakasipu. Again from there they were forced to take birth in the womb of Devaki through Yogamaya and killed by Kamsa. Mother Devaki is mourning for them, considering them to be her own sons. Presently they are residing in your abode. To alleviate her maternal sorrow I will take them away from this place to meet their mother. Finally, they will go back to the planets of the demigods having been freed from their curse and from lamentation. These six sons of Marici namely Smara, Udgitha, Parisvanga, Patanga, Ksudrabhrta and Ghrni will eventually attain the Supreme Abode by My mercy.” The seventh child of Devaki and Vasudeva was Balram, who was the incarnation of Sheshnag. Vasudeva prayed hard to Lord Vishnu to save this child. Then, by the power of Lord Vishnu's Yoga Maya, the child was secretly transformed into the womb of Rohini, another wife of Vasudeva (she lived in Vrindavan), while everyone thought that she had lost that child due to miscarriage. Soon Rohini gave birth to the child and it was grown in the village of Vrindavan.

One of the wonderful verses I quoted: “It is the duty of all transcendentalists to cultivate the quality of forgiveness which is illuminating like the sun. The question asked here was - Who were the sapta(seven) chiranjeeve or the immortal seven? Om Swami says that he feels that one should aim for the highest like Sri Hari or mother Divine or any other god one prays to. The rest is immaterial he says. Om Swami says that it is impossible to have a human body and be immortal as the human body is subject to the laws of nature and so will deteriorate and decay. The soul lives on and is immortal and is the centre of one's world. If one focuses on that then they have tapped into the centre of beauty and youth he says. What Is The Significance A Tilak [Hindi]

The question asked was what is the significance of wearing a tilak( a mark worn on the forehead) and why are there different types of it? Om Swami says that he was initiated by his guru Naga baba, and at that time it was the norm to smear three horizontal lines on the forehead made of sandalwood paste with the red vermilion dot in the centre. During those days, he was busy handling many things and the process of grinding sandalwood to make the white paste took time. Further, when smeared on the forehead the powder used to keep falling into the eyes. Om Swami says that he then felt that it was not necessary to do it that way as it represented only a symbol. But since his guru had instructed him that he should not have a barren forehead in front of the society, he started to mark his forehead with a smaller dot of sandalwood paste and vermilion powder. He says, any mark worn is a symbol to remind a person of their commitments in life. For example, many married women in India wear vermilion powder in the parting of their hair to show that they are married and committed. He says that wearing this symbol, for him, is also his way of showing gratefulness to Sri Hari and Ma Tripurasundari, the masculine and the feminine energy who have given him his saffron robes and their vision countless times. The white dot represents Sri Hari and the red dot mother Divine. He says, that the whole universe is there only due to the masculine and the feminine energy coming together and this is his way of respecting both forms of energy equally. Om Swami says that all religions without exceptions have symbols or some such thing that they follow. Initially, the marks or symbols even like turbans etc were worn or kept so that the differences between the different sects were visible to all and they could be identified on those basis. He says, later there comes a time when one starts to love these symbols. Thereafter, these symbols may not carry any meaning and people also may not give it much thought or importance. They just do it because they start to love it and they wear it according to the sect they belong to. Listen to the full discourse to get deeper insights into this topic. Shrimad Bhagavata Mahapurana Synopsis of the Twenty-Seventh Session  Bhagavata Chaturth Skanda (Book Four) Chapter 13 to 20 —————————————————— Sub Story Power of the Sages Ramdasji was shivaji's Guru and the story goes; - One version: He wanted to give up his kingdom and handed it over to his guru. Ramdasji accepted it and said now you have to manage all this for me.  - Other version: Ramdasji came to him and asked him to give him alms, Shivaji took a piece of paper and wrote everything, the kingdom, and all that is mine and put it into his begging bowl. In both cases, the Kingdom now was Ramdasji's and Shivaji was just working for his Guru, hence, with this in mind, never wanting to let his guru down, he never saw the face of defeat. Now, this also tells us why the color of Shivaji's flag is the orche color of the sannyasis robe. —————————————————— Story: Swambhu Manu's son Uttanpad, and his child Dhruv, was followed by Vatsara who was given the thrown. When we trace down the family tree of Vatsara, there was a King called Anga. He was a very pious king and was married to Sunitha, the Daughter of Mrtyu.  Ones when King Anga sat for a Yagna, it so happened that non of the deities came down to take the offering. The reason was that in one of his previous births he had sinned. Hence, on the suggestion of the sages, he decide to pray to Sri Hari for a Son. He was blessed with a son, they name him Vena. However, Vena was a brutal being from the very beginning and he would kill children and animals alike and as he grew up, the devil in him only grew. Anga tried his best to correct his son, but due to his close affiliation with his grandfather ‘Mrtyu', it was not possible for them to change him. Anga first regretted, but later thanked God for giving him an evil son. He felt that this kept him away from getting attached to the material world and one night silently left the kingdom. No one was able to find him and the entire globe sank into darkness.  Looking at the rampant increase in crime all around, the Sages saw of no other means to save this orphaned world, but to crown Vena the King. As soon as Vena was made the ruler, all dacoits and thieves when into hiding, as they feared his brutality. But, this did not solve the problem as Vena himself began to torture and torment the people. The sages again came to advice Vena, and requested him to correct his ways. But, he refused and declared him the only God that could be worshiped. The Sages destroy Vena. It took them only the sound of ‘Hum' to put an end to this demon. However, plunders went rampant again. The sages knew that a righteous ruler was needed. Hence, they requested Sunitha for the body of Vena, which she had preserved and began churning the thighs. From the thigh came a dwarfish strange looking being. Who took onto himself all the evil which was there and asked for instruction. The sages first asked him to wait and later sent him to the woods. Then they took to churning the right arm of Vena, from which emerged a divine couple ‘Prthu and Archi', they were the divine ray of Shri Hari and Lakshmi and were crowned the King and Queen. Their praises were sung, and when Prthu objected to the praises, as he was yet to act, they sang the glories of how divine his rule will be. In the initial days of his rule, the earth refused to provide to the people and there was agony and starvation. He summoned the earth and chased her. She later confessed that she refused to nurture sinners and now that the right ruler had come, who would lead people to divinity she was willing to give every pious soul what they needed. But, they had to request her like a calf does to the cow for milk. Prthu took earth as his daughter and hence, she was called Prithvi. His rule filled everyone with joy and prosperity. He also took to completing 100 yagna, but when he had completed 99 Yagna and was about to being the 100th Indra got scared, that prthu will take...

This morning we were talking about the Ram Katha that happened here at the ashram for five days. For four and a half days or maybe even longer, we only got to when Bhagwan Ram got exiled. Lord Rama reached Kevat. The katha was supposed to be finished very soon. At first, I thought that I should ask the orator that the katha is only for five days and not for a month and then I thought that nothing happens without Sri Hari's wish. At this place, we don't want to talk about Lord's sadness and grief. Mostly a person's bad time is their story. There is not a story about happiness. If you pick up a book that has all good written in it, nobody would like to read it. In a story if there is no grief, it does not become a story. As it is Sri Hari's avatarn day, so at this place it is Bhagwan's wish that stories about grief and sadness are not narrated but stories about happiness are told. For four and a half days, Sri Hari made the orator narrate all the good and happy times. People who were present heard all the good and happy moments of the Lord because somewhere the Lord said that talk about my good times and not about the bad time.
