Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta took up the modern dress and used conveyances like you'll see a picture of Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta coming into Radhā-kunda to emphasize the point of yukta vairāgya. Let's use everything, all technology, modern appearances, and so forth, in order to spread Kṛṣṇa consciousness all over the world. Meanwhile, the babājīs in Radhā-kunda, as an example, were still wearing the very scant dress of Rūpa Sanātana and not touching the world. They wouldn't wear shoes and so forth. What did Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta do? He wore shoes into Radhā-kund, and you'll see a picture of him in a car, a nice car, a convertible with a European jacket on, coming into Radhā-kund, then he had shoes on, and so did his followers. He was making a point there that this is yukta vairāgya. We should use everything in order to attract people to Kṛṣṇa consciousness and not alienate them nor should we alienate ourselves and stay aloof from everyone. So Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta brought that mood. He instilled it in the heart of his disciple Abhay Caranāravinda, who later became a sannyāsi and was awarded the title of Bhaktivedānta amongst his peers who had noted his scholarship. And then, of course, Prabhupāda, which was a term of respect that his disciples asked if they could call him as he had called his spiritual master. So Prabhupāda said that the grandfather, or the great grandfather, as the case may be, is more merciful than even the father. We can take much from Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvati Ṭhākur and get his mercy to empower us to use everything in Kṛṣṇa service and also to preach Kṛṣṇa consciousness all over the world. He won't mind a bit if you sacrifice to your peace of mind to go out and give others the chance to take Kṛṣṇa Consciousness in fact this is the emblem of advancement in spiritual in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, not that we keep it for ourselves, or that we go in and stay aloof and just chant for ourselves. Now I'm going to read you just a few of his final instructions that he gave, and you'll be surprised how relevant and practical these are. Vasishta poursuit l'histoire de la reine Lila qui, accompagnée de la déesse Sarasvati, continue son voyage dans les différentes vies qu'elles a connues. In this episode of Cyrus Says, bestselling author Kavita Kané joins Cyrus to discuss her revolutionary approach to Indian mythology, where she highlights the lesser-known women who played pivotal roles. With eight bestselling novels, including Karna's Wife (2013), Sita's Sister (2014), Menaka's Choice (2015), Lanka's Princess (2016), The Fisher Queen's Dynasty (2017), Ahalya's Awakening (2019), Sarasvati's Gift (2021), and her latest Tara's Truce, Kavita has been at the forefront of bringing feminism to Indian mythology. In this episode, she dives deep into the story of Urmila and Lakshman, where Urmila, unlike Sita, didn't have the choice to accompany her husband to Vanvas. Kavita elaborates on Karna, the unsung hero of the Mahabharata, through the eyes of his wife Uruvi, a courageous Kshatriya princess who falls in love with Karna and dares to choose him over Arjun. Uruvi's journey to reconcile with the social implications of her marriage and gaining acceptance within Karna's family is a gripping tale of love and intelligence. The conversation also covers the Apsaras' art of seduction and how Satyavati wielded more political power than Draupadi. Kavita shares her motivation behind writing these stories, her fascination with characters from the epics who are often overlooked, and how she uses fiction to bring their narratives to life.Tune in to this insightful episode and discover Kavita Kané's inspiration and process behind her groundbreaking work!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When the soulful rhythms of Kirtan music and the rich wisdom of Bhakti Yoga merge, a portal to spiritual ecstasy opens. For this episode I had the privilege of sitting down with Vijay Krishna from the Kirtaniyas, whose life story is as enchanting as the mantras he chants. Vijay's journey is a testament to the transformative power of devotional music. His insight into balancing the reverence for tradition with the vibrancy of personal expression invites us all to find our unique spiritual cadence. Together, we traversed the narrative landscapes from his birth, cradled by mantras, to the magic of performing Kirtan in unexpected venues across the globe. Our discussion ventured into the heart of Bhakti Yoga (The Yoga of Devotion), underscoring the embracing of the beautiful nature of this path. Vijay's experiences as a mixed-race individual in the world of sacred music reveal the universality of mantras beyond cultural divides, inviting us to embrace a broader perspective on devotion and inclusivity.Embark on this sonorous journey where we shed light on the intimate ripples of evening ragas along India's sacred rivers, the electrifying fusion of Kirtan with contemporary genres, and celebrate unity through diversity.IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:

I remember the first time I saw a sign for Yin Yoga at a studio I was going to in downtown Portland. I peaked in one day, and saw what looked like a bunch of people super relaxed and blissed out. Needless to say, I was utterly freaked, and vowed never, ever, ever to go to Yin. For those unfamiliar with Yin Yoga, it's a style of yoga–as I've learned from our guest today, yoga instructor Sarasvati Hewitt–that derived from the martial arts, adapted by Paul Greely and others in the US, and which draws on yoga postures that, essentially, you stay in for 3-5 minutes and sometimes much longer, really leaning into the stretch, and the silence.I wouldn't have been able to stay in one posture for so long at the time, and I certainly couldn't imagine making myself comfortable. I was all in for Ashtanga Yoga, Crossfit, Mountain Biking–and any sport I could go hard and never stop. The more pain, the better.I was not alone in this view….And I was not ready until I had to learn to get comfortable with slow discomfort, for truly being present with myself and taking care of myself. Until, I was ready.Yoga teacher Sarasvati Hewitt. was also initially aghast at a practice of slow, very intentional, very present, very slow–did I say slow–yoga. But she was equally intrigued by the science that supported this ancient-meets-modern-world practice. And it turns out, according to Sarasvati's intense studies into the neuroscience of yin, this yoga practice, treats sleep disorders, mental health conditions, addiction and general human-ness. In this conversation, we explore the science and the art of yin, how Sarasvati stumbled into this fascinating world of ancient art and modern science, how she is dedicated to teaching this style–and more importantly, how this practice can work for everyone.Find Out More about Sarasvati Hewitt and her upcoming Yin Yoga Teacher training, classes, and retreat in Salyulita Mexico:https://www.sarasvatihewitt.comhttps://www.instagram.com/sarasvatihewitt/https://www.facebook.com/sarasvatihewittyogaSomatic Coaching and Transformational Breathwork with Melissa–Book a free, no-strings attached call to find out how embodied coaching and breathwork can help you uncover your worth, discover who and where you want to be, and catapult you into your purpose:Book a Free 20 Minute Call with Melissa
