Let us know what you enjoy about the show! After a long day of navigating life's challenges, join me, as I share a gentle tale that promises to inspire and shift your perspective. Imagine a young monk named Shen, grappling with the weight of his failures, only to discover through the wisdom of his Master Wang that each sunset in life is followed by a dawn. This soothing parable from "The Zen Monkey and the Lotus Flower" by Tenpa Yeshe serves as a poignant reminder that our setbacks are not the end, but rather a prelude to new beginnings. Allow Shen's journey to be your own, as you embrace the natural cycles of life and learn to release the burdens of your past.As we sit together on this metaphorical cliff, overlooking the sun setting in a riot of reds and golds, I invite you to reflect on your own darkness and anticipate the dawn that inevitably follows. Through the story of Shen and his master, find solace in the regularity of nature's rhythms—knowing that, just like the sunrise and sunset, your capacity for growth and renewal is a constant. Let this narrative guide you toward peace and joy, as we remember to live in the moment and cherish the assurance that, after every ending, a fresh start awaits. Thank you for listening, and may you find safety, health, and light in each new day.If you are enjoying the show please subscribe, share and review! Saddhaloka riffs on everything fiery - flames abound, smoke fills the air, the Buddha gets almost apocalyptic in his vision of things. Luminous stuff. This is the first in a two-part series The Burning House - an Image from the White Lotus Sutra referencing Chapter 3 of the 'Sutra of the Lotus Flower of the Wonderful Law' given at Padmaloka Retreat Centre, 2002. *** Subscribe to our Free Buddhist Audio podcast: On Apple Podcasts | On Spotify | On Google Podcasts A full, curated, quality Dharma talk, every week. 3,000,000 downloads and counting!Subscribe to our Dharmabytes podcast: On Apple Podcasts | On Spotify | On Google Podcasts Bite-sized inspiration three times every week. Change Makers: Leadership, Good Business, Ideas and Innovation
How do we support refugees to thrive in their second home? That's the question we're answering in a special edition of Change Makers, hosted by the fantastic journalist and broadcaster Edie Lush. For the first in a new series of the podcast exploring some of the most pressing issues of our time, Edie speaks with three campaigning voices for refugees about why it matters to ensure that we support refugees with human-centred policy and ensure that they can play an important role in the UK's social and economic story. Amos Schonfield is the founder and CEO of Our Second Home – a charity that Seven Hills has been supporting for the past 18 months. It is a youth movement aimed at empowering refugees and asylum seekers to flourish here in the UK and build the next generation of leaders. Amos shares the family history that makes this cause personal to him and what he believes we can all do to help reshape the narrative around refugees. Taban Shoresh OBE is founder of The Lotus Flower and a refugee who escaped the Kurdish genocide as a child. Today, she supports survivors of conflict and displacement through projects focused on education skills training, peacebuilding initiatives for women and income-generating projects. A former Change Makers guest, she returns to share her story of coming to the UK and why she believes it's more important than ever for us to be welcoming to refugees. Lord Alf Dubs is a Peer in the House of Lords and a long-time refugee campaigner, who came to the UK on the Kindertransport from Czechoslovakia, following the Nazi invasion of his birth country in 1938. Having first appeared on Change Makers in 2021, he joins us again to reflect on how Britain has changed in terms of its attitudes over the past 75 years and why he continues to make the case for refugees even at the age of 91. We hope you enjoy this episode and something different to our usual offering. We'll be exploring further vital issues alongside Edie in the new year, so look out for much more. Seven Hills has been fundraising for Our Second Home since 2023, raising more than £2000. Edited highlights of our full length conversation. What is your pain for? Taban Shoresh is the Founder of The Lotus Flower, a UK-based charity that supports women and girls that have been displaced by conflict, and helps them to build sustainable futures. Since 2016, the charity's projects have impacted more than 60,000 women, girls, and community members. Every now and then, you meet someone whose story stops you in your tracks. Taban's story starts with her being arrested in Iraq at the age of four. Three weeks later, she's ordered onto a bus that will take her to the place where she and other members of her family will be buried alive. At the end of 2021, before Russia invaded the Ukraine or the war in Gaza, the number of forcibly displaced people worldwide stood at 89.3 million. There were 27.1 million refugees globally, half of whom were aged under 18, which makes Taban's story one of millions and completely unique. She has experienced staggering trauma, she has known realities that I'm sure I would not have survived, and she has taken all of that pain and turned it into creative leadership of the most consequential kind. As you'll hear, for reasons both global and personal, she's in a hurry. All of us have suffered pain. What we use it for is a question that will stay with me for a long time after this conversation.

This week, we can develop a practice of excavating the diamonds buried in our hearts. The lotus flower blooms in spite of its murky waters. We do have feelings of fear, jealousy, and hatred, but we can see that these qualities do not serve us. We must let them go if we wish to experience the joy and blessings the Universe wishes to bestow on us. Hatred is poison that we take ourselves, expecting the other person to die. It is only in our own best interest to be willing to let go of negativity, even if we feel justified in holding on to it. Welcome to another inspiring episode of Inspire Us, hosted by Jay Paul Nadeau, a renowned motivational speaker, and former hostage negotiator. Jay was also the author of Take Control of Your Life. In this episode, he continues his insightful readings from the book, The Zen Monkey and the Lotus Flower, 52 Stories That Will Change Your Life by Tempa Yeshe. Today's enlightening tale is The Dancing Monk and the Rainbow. It paints a picture of a youthful monk named Pema, who loves to dance. Despite criticism from his fellow monks, Pema's dance becomes a form of meditation, embracing each minute of life with gratitude, joy, and a deep spiritual connection to the universe. When he dances in rain and sunshine, he not only brings delight and beauty to his monastery but also teaches us the importance of living in the present and weathering life's storms with grace. Paul beautifully adds his thoughts to the story, expanding on the concepts of self-expression, acceptance, and the presence of mind. He inspires us to learn from Pema's example, to stay authentic, and to embrace the things that bring us joy and happiness. He urges us not to let the judgments of others deter us from experiencing the beauty and magic in every moment, whether resplendent or challenging. By the end of this episode, you'll be left with a heartening reminder that "this too shall pass". With these thought-provoking insights, Jay encourages you to live your life proactively, knowing that while storms may pass, joy is a continuous process, and rainbows are around the corner. So why not find your dance, embrace the present moment, and let your spirit shine?

It's time to redefine beauty, worth, and value - it's time to simplify and declutter our lives. Listen now to this enriching episode of the Inspire Us podcast!
In this enlightening episode of Inspire Us, your host, J. Paul Nadeau, a former hostage negotiator turned motivational speaker, shares valuable life lessons drawn from unique and captivating stories. This particular episode explores the enlightening tale from the book 'The Zen Monkey and the Lotus Flower' compiled by Tempa Yeshi. This book offers diverse philosophies and perspectives that help make sense of complex life dynamics. The tale today is about a hare that discovered a gold-plated watering can. While beautiful, it had no usefulness to the hare, thus making it a burden. The wise monkey, Bodhi, taught the hare to appreciate aspects beyond superficial beauty, address unnecessary burdens and experience the joys of sharing. Balancing between the authors' views and his comments, Paul Nadeau draws parallels with our lives, arguing that the beauty of a thing is not only in its appearance but also in its usefulness. Paul delves deeper into the moral of the story by encouraging you to reassess aspects of your life that may no longer serve you. His thoughtful commentaries on self-defeating cycles, personal growth, and lifestyle changes make this episode a must-listen for anyone in search of motivation or a new perspective in life. Join Paul in this inspiring journey as he urges you to take control of your life. He believes that circumstances don't dictate who you are or what to do, but rather, you dictate your circumstances. Besides the enlightening tale, he leaves listeners with a challenge - to live life with intention.
Welcome to “Inspire Us,” hosted by motivational speaker and acclaimed author J. Paul Nadeau. Paul's journey has seen him go from being a hostage negotiator to helping people with inspiring words and stories that boost hopes, dreams and mental well-being. This episode takes an interesting spin as Paul dips into Buddha's philosophies and relates it to his teachings on how to take control of our lives and beat self-sabotage. On this episode, Paul selects a story from the book "The Zen Monkey and the Lotus Flower" authored by Tempa Yeshe. He reads the narrative and then dissects it, threading his ideas and philosophies through the framework. The story of Tenzin and the Master acts as a focal point, with Paul expounding its central message - the power of living in the present. Buddhists teachings emphasize on being in the present moment, letting go of things we can't control, and releasing the past. Paul touches on the danger of dwelling in past memories, particularly the negative ones. He surmises that such actions inhibit our ability to embrace the present and to move forward. Similarly, while planning for the future is vital, he warns against the danger of living in an unguaranteed future. This episode serves as a beacon of understanding about how the present moment is the most important. Life is a series of nows and it is in these moments where we decide how we feel and the thoughts we entertain. Paul's aim throughout the podcast episode is simple - to help his listeners—not just through sharing stories—but by showing how to extract profound lessons from them. Listen in for a journey of self-discovery.
hi friend!let me just say that this was not the episode i was planning on recording but i am so freaking thankful that i did!on today's episode we're chatting about this phase of life everyone seems to be in - including me - where we're in a state of discomfort & ready to make a change, whether that's in our relationships, our work situations, our living situations - whatever.literally...everyone i know is in some state of growth right now...it's wild & so cool to see!that being said, that also means that we are met with analysis paralysis. we're being met with an internal resistance; we feel like we can't move the needle forward.here's the thing though...we absolutely can! we are beyond capable of going after what we want & getting ourselves out of this discomfort, thereby allowing ourselves to become the beautiful lotuses that we are!here are 4 steps you can take to get yourself out of the muck & onto the surface in all of your glory!1) acknowledge where you are2) start to research, make a plan for where you want to go3) loop someone in for accountability - a loved one, a significant other -- who is going to hold your feet to the fire (so to speak) when you want to bail on this shift?)4) baby steps - what's the first thing you can do to move the needle forward now that you've decided to make a change?i'm in the midst of the process as we speak, so if you want extra accountability, send me a message on instagram & let me know i can best support you in this season!xoxo
Today we are using the potent symbol of the Lotus Flower within our meditation. The Lotus flower is so important in symbology within the chakra system because the Lotus represents spiritual enlightenment, beauty, fertility, purity, prosperity and eternity. Its roots sit deep in the mud under water and the long slender stem reaches for the light and air above the water line. Without our roots deep in the dirt we cannot grow.If we are feeling stuck in the mud it is a wonderful reminder that this is a very necessary part of our growth, that there are nutrients within the mud that give us the strength to blossom into our potential and purpose! “Life sprang […] from the lotus.” In this first episode of Season 3, I delve into a flower that's closely tied to divinity and many Eastern faiths: the lotus flower. It's an integral part of many creation stories, whether Hinduism, Buddhism, or the imagery of ancient Egypt. Let's wade in together to take a closer look at a flower that not only offers spiritual guidance but informs one country's rich culture and even the creative process.Gathered: Storied Botanicals is a monthly podcast with room and the will to grow. This week's But Why bitesize is extraordinary and a little different. In normal circumstances, these mini episodes involve a very complicated edit, but not this week. In this episode Clemmie is looking at war with child genocide survivor Taban Shoresh, who founded Lotus Flower, a non-profit that supports female conflict survivors and refugees in Kurdistan, Iraq. And this shortened episode is simply her first answer. You can find the full episode wherever you get your podcasts. With a political activist father during Saddam Hussein's regime, Taban was imprisoned with her family aged just four, and they narrowly escaped being buried alive. After a year dodging bombs and bullets, they were finally flown to the UK by Amnesty to start a new life. In 2016 decided to give up her successful City of London career and establish Lotus Flower. It now supports women and girls who lost everything at the hands of ISIS, including their homes and loved ones, and who also suffered barbaric crimes such as slavery, rape and torture. "There's no murky water too dark or too deep or too dirty for God's love to take root. God wrote love and mercy into the pages of Scripture and into the flowers and wind and trees. There's no murky water too dark or too deep or too dirty for God's love to take root. There's no light or warmth too far from the layered depths of loss we find ourselves swimming in. Whatever thing you're losing hope for, whatever on-going struggle you face day after day, God's mercy is moving alongside of you and will not leave."Leave a comment for Tasha: https://incourage.me/?p=234378--Stay organized and inspired this school year with an (in)courage Planner!
