Research recently published in the medical journal "The Lancet" says that non-infectious health conditions such as high blood pressure are on the rise in Nepal. Led by public health expert Rajshree Thapa, the report finds that a 12-month intervention program carried out by female community health volunteers has not been sustainable. Thapa, who is a Postdoctoral Research fellow at Melbourne's Monash University says communities in Nepal need effective education and monitoring in terms of regular health checkups. She spoke to SBS Nepali about her research, the public health conditions in Nepal, and life as an international student in Australia.

Welcome to a really exciting episode of the Indian Dream - we've wanted to talk to this founder for the past 1 year at least. In this episode, we speak to Vivek Sahni, co-founder and CEO of Kama Ayurveda. For the few listeners who haven't heard of Kama, they are an Ayurveda based Hair & Beauty brand that now has 59 retail stores across the country.Join our No-Spam WhatsApp GroupThe reason we love Kama Ayurveda so much is that they started in 2002 at a time when nobody spoke about Ayurveda or even cared about it. They are pioneers who saw the early signals of the clean beauty movement and the resurgence of Ayurveda in India and staked a claim. This 20 year journey has culminated in Kama becoming one of the best known beauty brands to come out of India with a reported 100cr investment by a Spanish Luxury brand.I'll give you a quick history about Kama and Vivek before we jump right into the conversation with him.The journey to Kama started in 1993 when Vivek moved back to India after studying Design at the Parson's School of Design in New York. After coming back, he started a design studio called Vivek Sahni designs with his partner David Chang. Fun fact - Vivek and Dave ran this design studio all the way to 2013. For the first 10 years of Kama Ayurveda's existence, it was just a side hustle. In 1998 - Vivek worked on a 2 year project to design gift packaging for Khadi India, a government organisation set up to promote the development of Khadi and village industries in rural areas. During this project, they helped create a range of products, protocols, worked with manufacturers, and helped train people to source the best productsThis experience with Khadi India drove the founding of Kama Ayurveda in 2002 as an authentically Indian brand that was steeped in the traditions of Ayurveda. Kama had 4 founders, Vivek Sahni, Dave Change, interior designer Vikram Goyal and Padma Shri awardee Rajshree Pathy. It was Rajshree's connection with Ayurvedic doctors in Coimbatore that led them down the path of Ayurveda. The actual product development took them nearly 2 years and in the end, they started with a range hair and skin products that were authentically Ayurvedic. From 2002 to 2012, Vivek spent about 30% of his time on Kama while the rest was spent on his design studio. The brand grew organically increasing its distribution across pharmacies and hotels in Delhi. We now jump into the conversation with Vivek around 2005 2006, when they got distribution as in-room amenities at Oberoi and The Park hotels and how that impact the brand. Before getting into the episode - please join our No Spam WhatsApp group where we post information about the latest episodes.   Alexis Charles Henri Maurice Clérel, Comte de Tocqueville was born in 1805 into the French nobility and a family estate in Normandy. He died in 1859. His wider family was part of the conservative reaction to the changes brought about by the French Revolution in 1789, but Tocqueville, himself, looked forward. He participated in public office, initially as a magistrate and subsequently as a deputy of the Constituent Assembly, rising briefly to Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1849. He travelled to the United States between May 1831and February 1832 with his friend Gustave Beaumont, ostensibly to study penal institutions, but instead published a two-volume study of Democracy in America. Throughout his life, he commented on contemporary politics and public affairs, including France's occupation of Algeria. The politics of the period were frequently in turmoil and this instability was a motivating concern of Tocqueville in his search for the conditions of a more stable order. What happens when multiple shocks hit us? Have we reflected on 2020 and what have we learned? Have we identified the cracks in our systems? How can we enable ourselves to be better prepared for the next crisis? ⛳️Uncertainty and complexity are states of nature. ⛳️We will never have full knowledge. ⛳️There are no templates to tell us exactly what to do. ⛳️We will always make mistakes. By acknowledging the above, we allow ourselves to experiment, place early bets, fail fast, and try again. We will acquire the missing information. We will figure out where the holes are and will be able to think ahead. Today, my guests are Rajshree Agarwal and Constance Helfat. RAJSHREE AGARWAL is the Rudolph Lamone Professor of Entrepreneurship and Strategy and Director of the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets at the University of Maryland. Rajshree studies the evolution of industries, firms, and individual careers, as fostered by the twin engines of innovation and enterprise. Rajshree's scholarship uses an interdisciplinary lens to provide insights on strategic innovation for new venture creation and for firm renewal. She routinely publishes in leading journals in strategy and entrepreneurship. An author of more than 60 studies, her research has been cited more than 10,000 times, received numerous best paper awards, and funded by grants from various foundations, including the Kauffman Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the National Science Foundation. She is currently the co-editor of the Strategic Management Journal and has previously served in co-editor and senior editor roles at Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal and Organization Science respectively. Rajshree is a senior contributor at Forbes, providing insights for leading purposeful lives, strategy, and innovation. She has been featured in major media outlets including the Washington Post, USA Today, Time, and the Baltimore Sun, and has appeared in several video interviews and podcasts. Her op-eds have had over 100,000 reads, and her conversation with David Rubin on “The Rubin Report” drew approximately 25,000 views. Agarwal's ability to put complex thoughts into clear terms led one media outlet to describe her as “an economist who makes things understandable.” CONSTANCE HELFAT is the J. Brian Quinn Professor in Technology and Strategy and Senior Associate Dean for Research Innovation at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. Professor Helfat's research focuses on strategic change, with an emphasis on firm capabilities, technological innovation, and top executives. This chapter illustrates the power of chastity, i.e., purity as exemplified in the life of Anasuya. Her purity could transform the great Trinity(the Durlabhaya, i.e., the unattainable) into mere babes in her arms and make them Saulabhya (bringing within one's easy and close reach). The name Atri means one who has transcended the three gunas. Anasuya is one who is bereft of human frailties such as jealousy, etc. and is spotlessly pure. Small Changes Big Shifts with Dr. Michelle Robin

I know but one freedom, and that is the freedom of the mind. -  Antoine de Saint-Exupery What if 2% of your day could optimize the other 98% of your day? This week Dr. Michelle Robin is joined by the Author of Vital Force, Rajshree Patel, to discuss how we can fuel our energy, purpose, and performance with ancient secrets of breath and meditation. Rajshree is a highly sought-after self-awareness coach, mind management and meditation expert, trainer and speaker. Through insight, intuition, breathing and meditation techniques, she guides people to identify what’s working and not working in their personal and professional lives. Over the course of more than 30 years, she has conducted programs in over 35 countries for individuals and at organizations covering topics as diverse as mind management, self-awareness, leadership, conflict resolution and workplace diversity. Join Dr. Michelle Robin and Rajshree Patel as they talk about: How she came to write Vital Force in the midst of her own health challenges and difficult times in her family. What steps we can take to use our source of resilience as we face life challenges. How lessons of past uncertainty can help boost our resiliency in present moments of crisis. Why it’s so important to slow down our mind and how we can begin to do that today. The power of breathwork to aid our internal landscape, thoughts, and emotions. How to be strong, centered, and focused on mental hygiene during the pandemic of COVID 19. Love is misunderstood to be an emotion; actually, it is a state of awareness, a way of being in the world, a way of seeing oneself and others. - David R. Hawkins

One of my favorite parts of the approach she shared is how simple it can be, and how in just a few moments we can completely change our experience. I think you’ll find this conversation to be both useful and inspiring. Topics we explore together include: The development of narrow, limiting thinking when we're young The aliveness we find in the present moment The breath work practice that led to Rajshree’s first metaphysical experience Seeing life as part of us and not separate from us How we can spend a lifetime not realizing that we already have what we’re looking for The vital force that animates all of us How to rejuvenate the vital force inside us The importance of how we enter sleep and how we wake up Some of the limitations with common breath meditation practices Meditation as relaxation for the entire brain Using meditation in our daily activities Self-transcending meditation Life as frequency, vibration, and resonance The struggle that comes with a divided mind Returning to simplicity Here's Rajshree's book, available on Amazon (affiliate link): The Power of Vital Force: Fuel Your Energy, Purpose, and Performance With Ancient Secrets of Breath and Meditation Rajshree Patel is a mind and meditation expert and an international self-awareness coach, teacher, and speaker. She has taught hundreds of thousands of people in more than 35 countries the power of meditation, mindfulness, breath work, and other ancient tools for accessing the innate source of energy, creativity, and fulfillment within. Born in Uganda and raised between rural India and New York City, Patel was working as a prosecutor for the U.S. Attorney's office and the Los Angeles District Attorney's office when a chance meeting with the renowned spiritual master Sri Sri Ravi Shankar changed her life. What happened after this discovery changed her life forever, and the wisdom she has gained has helped hundreds of thousands of people increase their energy, happiness, and efficiency.  If you are looking to increase your energetic capacity, stop dreading the day from the moment you wake up, get more restful sleep or just look at life with a new perspective, Rajshree’s new book, The Power of Vital Force, is the manual you need. By identifying what is working and what is not working in your personal and professional life, you can implement tiny habits with huge results. Optimism is something that anyone can achieve through simple techniques that are already right under your nose. When you are able to fully embrace yourself and wake up every day with the morning miracle, you can manage your day differently, become more efficient and lean into life instead of resisting it.  The life long lessons of shifting your mindset, proper breathing techniques, and mental hygiene can help you increase your energy and live in a flow state. Instead of thinking about the life that you want, leap into action and take what the universe knows you deserve. Are you ready to embrace the power of vital force and create a framework to help you live the life you desire? Share how breathwork and optimism play a role in your daily life in the comments section on the episode page.   Quotes “Because of that hand of the Universe or ‘mistake’, I ended up suddenly being exposed to the inner world of mind and emotion and human potentiality so that we could live our best self.” (10:56) “Just like our body, our mind and our emotions, just like our spirit also, run on what we call vital force. This innate source of energy and intelligence that we are born with.” (14:46) “Physiologically, breathing is the number one way to bring in vital force.” (24:42) “If you do these 5 pauses, I am sure you will discover an enormous shift in your outlook, your perception, your mindset, and your energy. It just makes you more optimistic and positive.” (25:50) “Everything is energy, everything requires energy, and the more life we want the more energy we need.” (35:36)   Resources Mentioned Rajshree Patel Website Register for the Essential Oil Hormone Summit Here   Other Resources: The Essential Oils Hormone Solution by Dr. Mariza Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube

On this very special episode of 2 Non Geminis, Lucia sits down with esteemed meditation teacher, inspirational speaker and author Rajshree Patel to talk about everything from how to constructively deal with competitiveness in comedy to how to more consciously date in the garbage fire that is app-based romance. Rajshree offers a spiritual teacher’s wisdom for comedians, and she explains why spiritual practices like meditation actually make comics (and all public speakers) better performers. She offers some pretty mind-altering insight into what it means to live a spiritual life and what self-care really is (hint: it has nothing to do with what smoothie ingredients you use and everything to do with being fully present). Rajshree explains why being present is necessary for success in comedy, how she went from being a criminal prosecutor to an internationally-recognized expert on meditation, and why spirituality is for everybody. Of course, an episode of 2 Non Geminis would not be complete without Lucia mentioning a recent bad date, and Rajshree kindly offers some advice for millennials in the dating game. Copyright is one of those topics over which even two saints disagreed. The legend has it that Saint Columba and Saint Finnian engaged in an argument as Columba had secretly, and without the latter's permission, copied a Latin Psalter owned by Finnian. When Finnian found out about it, he requested the copy, but Columbia refused to give it back. Dermott, the King of Ireland, decreed “to every cow belong its calf, so to every book belong its copy.” In 1925 the former Assistant Register of Copyrights in the United States, Richard De Wolf, pointed out that “the progress of copyright law does not take place by revolutions, but by successive stages. It resembles the growth of a city, in which, as time goes on, some parts are torn down and others are devoted to new uses..” However, this process has been historically riddled with controversy and disagreement, and not only among saints. Authorship rights and other questions related to the intellectual property became issues of major importance with the advent of the industrial revolution, in particular, with the advancement of printing technologies. Even figures like Charles Dickens were concerned with the free circulation of British books abroad. English statutes to protect intellectual property were adopted as early as in 1624. As the international legal mechanisms protecting intellectual property have solidified, the critique, mainly emanating from the global south, about its monopolizing and exclusionary nature has intensified as well. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights contains provisions regarding the protection of private property as well as intellectual property. In particular, Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights provides that “everyone has the right to the protection of the moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary or artistic production of which he is the author.” But is it proper to think of the world of ideas and knowledge, the world, which as Rajshree Chandra argues, is inexhaustible and socially distributed, in the same way as we think of the world of tangibles such as clothes, cars, or houses? And what are the main problems associated with relying on normative justifications for private property while we consider moral underpinnings of property rights over knowledge? And if indeed the moral groundings of the right to intellectual property are the same as those of the right to the ownership of property, what conclusions should be made from the distributional consequences of the transnational enforcement of these rights? Chandra takes up all these questions and more in her fine new book Knowledge as Property, Issues in the Moral Grounding of Intellectual Property Rights (Oxford University Press, 2010).
