Super Smash Bros. Brawl might have been a hit or miss for fans, but the one thing that people remember fondly was it's Adventure/Story Mode: The Subspace Emissary. Welcome back to Super Crash Bros! This is a podcast series dedicated to kicking open the door to your next favorite Nintendo series! At last we reach the finale of Super Crash Bros with the ultimate crossover fighting gam franchise, Super Smash Bros! Jon and Amanda reunite once again to discuss the madness of Masahiro “Daddy” Sakurai's ultimate creation. They discuss the game's wild origins, starting in 1999 on the Nintendo 64. The game first started as a prototype that Sakurai and future Nintendo president Satoru Iwata worked on. However, they decided to add Nintendo characters for funsies. The duo then discuss the meteoric rise of the series, continuing with Super Smash Bros Melee for the GameCube, Super Smash Bros Brawl for the Wii (along with one of the best story modes for a fighting game ever, The Subspace Emissary),  Super Smash Bros for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, and, finally, Super Smash Bros Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch. Finally, the duo also talk about their favorite weapons and items to use in the game, as well as their favorite characters. Kinda wild Nintendo got away with a lightsaber by calling it a Beam Sword. Come on, come all, for the grand finale of Super Crash Bros!!

Opening season 2 episode 5 comes yet another theory-crafting— today, it's building the PERFECT outfit. Complete with Elmo-colored dress Heely's, Black 3.0 socks, sexy dark-washed jeans, a chinese-collar dress shirt with a minimalist Elmo design, breakaway vest, neon windbreaker, and a wide-brimmed hat with a marijuana plant instead of a feather, the boys have created a magnificent being who can dominate business meetings AND the club. The weekly Writing Prompt comes to us from Reddit user solidsecondplace: There is nothing unusual about a man in a business suit carrying a briefcase, rushing off to work. But since he just quickly passed you as you are climbing up Mount Everest in full winter gear, you have questions. What transpires is a direct transplant of our perfectly dressed man as one of the greatest social media influencers in the galaxy. After spiraling into hypotheticals about how and why this man has the wealth and power he's attained, the boys naturally stumble upon him being none other than Mark Zorkaplex, the alien progenitor of the intergalactic social media platform, Spacebook. Taha leads with the first fanfiction of the show. Embracing this episode's theme of alter-egos, the boys crack open Fake Empires by author CopperBadge, a Superman x Batman crossover that takes a deeper look into the humanity of journalist Clark Kent and the billionaire playboy, Bruce Wayne, respectively. In a tense one-on-one interview between the legendary duo, prior to either confirming their suspicions about each other's superhero personas, we get to see a side of Clark Kent's journalistic instincts as he pokes and prods for the truth. Hunter follows suit with the opening chapter of a legendary story in its own right. At one point the LONGEST FANFICTION EVER WRITTEN, the Super Smash Bros. Brawl inspired Subspace Emissary's World Conquest, by author AuraChannelerChris, has nearly 10 years of consistent development. As noted by the author, this story is about the struggle of a prolonged fight against the Subspace army— a “what if” version of what would have happened if the Smashers had never defeated Tabuu the second time they fought him.

On this Super Smash Bros Ultimate podcast, it's the biggest crossover event in history... and also Smash Ultimate! MAGE CAST is back and I'm featuring @DuctapePlays on this very special resurrection episode of the podcast. We're talking sheer numbers to illustrate just how big Super Smash Bros. Ultimate really is, plus more Fire Emblem characters (plz no), the most awkward tournament trophy ever, differences between the Smash games and ranking them to see if Ultimate is truly the ultimate: Brawl's floatiness, Smash 64's wonkiness, Melee's eloquent movement, and the perfect Smash game. The wonderful accessibility of the Smash series as fighting games, stickers, trophies, and spirits, the creative spirit battles, the World of Light, remembering Subspace Emissary, and we spend a hearty amount of time talking characters: the main roster and our mains, the DLC characters, Fighter Pass Vol. 2, and obscure picks. Smash Bros Cast Episode 6     What the pros want from Smash for the Switch  From NintendoLife article Knockback seems to be a hot topic Thinkamana moderator for the Smashboards forum had this to say, “The oversight is that rage should never have applied to base knockback, as that messes up the consistency of low-% combos; this means that with some characters, the person losing might have fewer viable options,” Dabuz, a long time top ten Smash 4 player had this to say, “It's a great mechanic because it prevents fishing for KOs at specific damage percentages, but it scales largely with the base knockback of a move (that means the amount of knockback a move delivers at zero percent, basically.) This makes multi-hitting moves such as Zero-Suit Samus’ 'up-B' attack extremely powerful because high base knockback ensures one hit leads into all of its 'hits', which causes the opponent to pop out and die at very low percentages, largely due to rage.” Thinkaman’s solution is, “Applying rage to only knockback growth (like all other damage/knockback modifiers in the game) is the number one thing that I'd like to see fixed in Smash for Switch,”   Larry Lurranother top player would like to see the return of DACUS. A technique where you cancel your dash attack and do a sliding up smash. Fine tuning stick controls and upping the speed of rolling onto the stage were mentioned also. Nario, another professional Smash 4 player had this to say about the stages and stage hazards.“I hope we can further develop on that with something like a 'turn off hazards' option for most stages, similar to what PlayStation All-Stars had,” also this,  “Sometimes in competitive play, to have the most fair result, we need to play on extremely conservative stages, (but) that can get stale quickly. This would liven up the stage list by a lot.” Dabuzwould like to see the training mode fleshed more.“There's a lot of stuff missing from the current training mode (frame by frame speed, recording inputs, testing rage, etc.) so I would love to see a more fleshed out training mode. Right now, there's a lot of things that cannot be tested out there.” Multiplayer wasn’t the only area that Nario would like to see more of story mode like brawl had “I'd love to see a kind of story mode or adventure mode, similar to Brawl's Subspace Emissary,”and  “I love seeing characters in a crossover series interact with one another, like Meta Knight, Marth and Ike.” Who do the pros want to see in Smash on Swtich? Zero: I really want Cloud to stay for the next Smash title. I also want Sora to join the roster and for Snake to return. That's my wishlist. Other characters that made the list were Bayonetta Crash Bandicoot Waluigi Ice Climbers Isaac from Goldensun Banjo-Kazooie Tavis Touchdown Characters suggestions from the Discord Poudigne- Rex and Pyra/Mythra Ryno- Dixie and Funky Kong NintenDavid64- Cappy for Mario. Sylux, Trace,or someone else from Metroid. Another FZero character. And Rex of course. Nightcrawlr724- Not that I “want” to see it but I think they will have a ARMS character on the roster. Maybe the 4 champions from BOTW Ganthet-san- Cloud and the same Fire Emblem Characters would be cool. DarkPanda45- Banjo and Kazooie Ctsmitson-Rex/pyra for sure. If they wanted to add more xenoblade representation maybe have Reyn from the first game and Zeke from the second.  Other than xenoblade characters I would really like a monster hunter character, despite MH World not being on the switch. AllexandertheG-Id like to see game n watch back, all rabbid characters from kingdom battle, rex would be cool too Mels-I'll throw in a vote for Travis touchdown to make my man Suda happy Character Spotlight: Mario Mario’s versatile with ranged and up close attacks He can be played as an offensive or defensive character Utilize fireballs to move on opponents that are shielding and go for a grab Mario’s down throw followed by Up Tilt is an excellent combo for players that are at low percent as lon

Episode 4   Smash Bros Brawl History Developer: HAL Laboratories, Sora, Game Arts, Monolith Soft, Paon and Intelligent Systems. Development began in October 2005 Release Date: January 31st 2008 in Japan. March 9th, 2008 in North America. Australia was June 26th and Europe was June 27th 2008. Development   In 2005 at a pre E3 press conference President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata announced that the next Smash game was already in development for the Wii. Masahiro Sakurai had HAL back in 2003 and was surprised to learn of its development, because Iwata had told him he would be in charge of the next instalment following Melee. Iwata invited Sakurai to his hotel room in LA and ask him to direct Brawl. According to Did You KNow Gaming Iwata told Sakurai if he didn’t join the team they would just re-release Melee with online play. Sakurai was on board and Nintendo hired an outside studio who according to Sakurai had played excessive amounts of Melee. Brawl’s official trailer was at E2 May 10, 2006. Sakurai told IGN that motion controls would not be included in the game. What it would include was Wi-Fi connection and online functionality. Nintendo wanted Brawl to be the game to take the Wii online. Sakurai and Hideo Kojima were testing online play and Kojima said Nintendo “could put it out right now and it would sell millions of copies.” Sadly that was not the case and the game would miss it’s original release date on December 3, 2007 in order to fine tune the game. The single player adventure mode, The Subspace Emissary was a step above Melee, but because Sakurai wanted to make the game more accessible to everyone, so the hardcore didn’t stick around and went back to Melee for high level play.   Competitive scene   The competitive scene didn't last long last because of how unbalanced the game was. Meta Knight was the only viable option for most players so that made the game pretty boring to watch. Tripping was also added to slow players down, so you would just randomly fall a be left wide open to take damage. The slower speed and lack of moves from Melee like wavedashing, L-canceling and decent air dodge played a part in killing it in the competitive scene. One of the biggest blows to playing the game competitively was the ability to act durring hitstun making combos more difficult. Project M Project  M was a mod that was created to make Falco play like he did Melee that evolved into the game that Brawl should have been. Project M was received many updates and even added Melee characters to the roster of Brawl. When Smash 4 was announced After six years it was shut down the team that had been working disbanded to avoid legal complications. There’s still local scenes having tournaments with Project M, but for the most part is has died the main competitive scene.     Character list for Brawl   Mario Luigi Peach Bowser Yoshi Donkey Kong Link Zelda/Sheik Ganondorf Samus Kirby Fox Falco Pikachu Jigglypuff Captain Falcon Ness Ice Climbers Marth Mr. Game and Watch Diddy Kong Zero Suit Samus Meta Knight King Dedede Wolf Pokemon Trainer Lucario Lucas Ike Pit Wario Olimar R.O.B. Snake Sonic Reception Brawl became the fastest selling video game in NOA history 1.4 million units in the first week. Super Smash Bros Brawl is the 8th best selling Wii game of all time at 12.14 units sold.  Brawl sits at 93/100 on Metacritic IGN 9.5/10 Eurogamer 9/10 Nintendo Power 9/10 Edge Magazine 9/10     My History with Smash Brawl Brawl is one of those games that holds a special place in my heart. When it released my boys were 7 and 5 years old and we spent many Saturday mornings trying to unlock characters and play through The Subspace Emissary. The casual play was perfect for playing with boys at that time. They loved to team up on me and we had many epic matches. My younger son loved playing as Wolf, the older would go for Ike and I loved Ganondorf.     Smash Practice Last time we worked on defensive moves, now let's incorporate that into our movement.
