BGMania B-Sides #48 of BGMania: A Video Game Music Podcast. Today on the show, Bedroth shines a spotlight on Beyond the Labyrinth, the Nintendo 3DS dungeon crawler developed by tri-Ace and published by Konami. Despite never receiving an official release outside of Japan, the game has developed a reputation among soundtrack enthusiasts thanks to its remarkable score, which blends sweeping orchestral arrangements, haunting melodies, and a sense of mystery that perfectly complements its fantasy setting. Beyond the Labyrinth may be a relatively obscure title, but its music is anything but forgettable. Composed by the legendary Motoi Sakuraba, the soundtrack showcases many of the qualities that have made him one of the most celebrated composers in video game music, from intricate compositions and dramatic flourishes to moments of surprising beauty and restraint. Whether you're already familiar with the game or discovering it for the first time, there's plenty here to appreciate as we explore a soundtrack that deserves far more attention than it has received. Email the show at bgmaniapodcast@gmail.com with requests for upcoming episodes, questions, feedback, comments, concerns, or any other thoughts you'd like to share!
Send us Fan MailEp 89---Carlo sits down with David McGee, a young man from Boyle who has quietly built one of the most niche and impressive YouTube channels in Ireland. Blue Star Line, his channel dedicated to historically accurate 3D ship animations, has over 127,000 subscribers and a single video with close to 7 million views.David talks about growing up beside the boys school in Boyle, his grandfather Dick McGee's influence on his love of photography and storytelling, making short films on a Nintendo 3DS, his obsession with the Titanic since the age of four or five, and how a school musical called All Shook Up set him on the path to technical production. He also covers commissions from Italian documentary companies, drone footage of the hot air balloons at Lough Key that went viral, working on the film "Ann" in Boyle, and what it takes to render a 20-minute animation that can take a month to produce. A genuinely fascinating conversation about creativity, craft and a passion pursued quietly but brilliantly.Check out the full blog post on this episode - https://www.voicesofboyle.com/davidmcgeeJoin us on:( Facebook ) ( Instagram ) ( YouTube )( Website )If you'd like to be on the show or if you know someone who would like to chat with us, then drop us an email at ( info@voicesofboyle.com ) Thanks to Brendan O' Dowd for creating and recording the musical piece for the podcast.

We also cover all the Nintendo and gaming news such as Yoshi and the Mysterious Book getting a release date and price, Nvidia's controversial new AI-based DLSS 5, Pokemon Pokopia's meteoric sales numbers and much more.

"In the year 20XX..." Welcome to Episode 152 of Nintendo Therapy, a show about the latest Nintendo news, rumors, and a celebration of all things Nintendo. This week, we kick off Year of the Backlog with Kevin finally completing Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater from the Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol. 1. Rather than immediately moving on, the conversation turns into a deep appreciation of why Snake Eater still stands as one of the greatest games ever made. We talk about its tight but content-rich design, incredible immersion, unforgettable boss fights, and the emotional weight of Snake and The Boss. It's a masterclass in prequel storytelling, showing how Big Boss's transformation feels earned in a way few franchises ever pull off.On the Nintendo front, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance joins the GameCube Classics lineup, giving fans another reason to revisit (or finally experience) one of the most beloved entries in the series. We also run through the biggest January 2026 Switch and Switch 2 releases, including major updates, new editions, and long-awaited ports.Harrison leads a discussion on the recent spike in Nintendo 3DS prices, exploring why interest in the system is rising again and how renewed demand for dual-screen experiences could influence Nintendo's future hardware decisions. That leads into a fascinating conversation about voice recognition on Switch 2, sparked by new software from Hitachi. We imagine how voice mechanics could be used in classic Nintendo games and remakes, from Hey You, Pikachu and Nintendogs to Animal Crossing, Brain Age, Luigi's Mansion, and more. The episode's Spotlight focuses on Streets of Rage (#50) and Streets of Rage 2 (#49). We break down why Sega's gritty beat 'em up series still holds up decades later, how it stacks up against Final Fight, and why Streets of Rage 2 is often considered the high point of the genre. From iconic characters and co-op chaos to Yuzo Koshiro's legendary soundtracks, this spotlight is a full-on love letter to one of the most influential brawler series of the '90s.All that and more in Episode 152 of Nintendo Therapy.
This week we're joined by Mike Tucker and Quang DX from Bitmap Bureau to talk about the making of Terminator 2D: No Fate. We hear how their lifelong love of Terminator 2 turned into a three-year obsession, why so many classic T2 games missed the mark, and how this project set out to put that right. From painstakingly recreating iconic film moments in pixel art, to difficulty balancing, licensing hurdles, hidden Easter eggs, and expanding the Future War beyond the film, this is the story of how the Terminator game fans always wanted finally became reality. fWotD Episode 3169: Yoshi's New Island Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Wednesday, 7 January 2026, is Yoshi's New Island.Yoshi's New Island is a 2014 platform game developed by Arzest and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS. The third installment in the Yoshi's Island series, it is set between the events of Yoshi's Island (1995) and Yoshi's Island DS (2006). The game was released in Europe, North America, and Australia in March 2014 and in Japan in July 2014.Like its predecessors, Yoshi's New Island's gameplay revolves around safely transporting the infant Mario to his brother Luigi by completing a series of levels across an island. The player characters are dinosaurs known as the Yoshi species; each dinosaur is named Yoshi and has a unique color. In addition to returning mechanics such as hovering, as well as laying and throwing eggs, Yoshis are occasionally able to create massive eggs known as Eggdozers, which can be used to clear paths. The development team chose to create a sequel to Yoshi's Island due to its simplicity in gameplay and construction. The game shared some level design staff with Yoshi's Woolly World, which was developed concurrently at Good-Feel. Yoshi's New Island features a hand-drawn art style where level designs and backgrounds are stylized as oil paintings, watercolors, and crayon drawings.Yoshi's New Island received mixed reviews from critics, who praised its sense of charm and nostalgia, but were divided on its art style, level design, and difficulty. Criticism was directed toward its soundtrack—which some considered repetitive—as well as the game's perceived lack of originality in comparison to its predecessors. The game was reissued as part of the Nintendo Selects line in 2016, and by 2020 it had sold more than two million copies worldwide. Yoshi's New Island was succeeded by Yoshi's Woolly World for the Wii U in 2015.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:55 UTC on Wednesday, 7 January 2026.For the full current version of the article, see Yoshi's New Island on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Bluesky at @wikioftheday.com.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Kendra.

fWotD Episode 3012: Mario Party: The Top 100 Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Sunday, 3 August 2025, is Mario Party: The Top 100.Mario Party: The Top 100 is a 2017 party video game developed by NDcube and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS. It is the fifth handheld game in the Mario Party series, as well as the third and final Mario Party game for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. The game was first released in North America in November 2017, and was released in PAL regions and in Japan in December 2017.Mario Party: The Top 100 is primarily a compilation of 100 minigames from across the series, specifically ones from the home console installments. The game offers several game modes centered around playing the minigames, including a mode that sees traditional Mario Party gameplay with up to four characters from the Mario franchise, controlled by humans or artificial intelligence, competing in an interactive board game. The game received mixed reviews, with general praise for its premise as a minigame compilation and criticism toward its lack of content aside from the minigames. A similar entry, Mario Party Superstars, which also features 100 minigames from the home console games, was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2021.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:40 UTC on Sunday, 3 August 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Mario Party: The Top 100 on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Joanna.
In this episode, John and Ryan bring a fastball of nostalgia and digital reckoning to your speakers. The duo dives into EA's announcement to shut down Anthem's servers in January 2026, dissecting the legacy of a game that promised big but struggled to soar. Then it's a deep-tech discussion as they unravel the silent killer behind your favorite handheld and console games—bit rot in SSDs affecting Nintendo 3DS, Vita, Switch, and even the shiny new Switch 2. Should collectors be worried? To close things out on a high note (and a few strikes), they revisit the chaotic joy of Mario Superstar Baseball on the GameCube. Is it still a home run, or does it whiff in today's gaming landscape? fWotD Episode 2974: Donkey Kong Land Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Thursday, 26 June 2025, is Donkey Kong Land.Donkey Kong Land, known in Japan as Super Donkey Kong GB, is a 1995 platform game developed by Rare and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy. It condenses the side-scrolling gameplay of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) game Donkey Kong Country (1994) for the handheld Game Boy with different level design and boss fights. The player controls the gorilla Donkey Kong and his nephew Diddy Kong as they defeat enemies and collect items across 30 levels to recover their stolen banana hoard from the crocodile King K. Rool.Development began in 1994, before Donkey Kong Country's completion, and lasted a year. Rare's Game Boy programmer, Paul Machacek, developed Land as an original game rather than as a port of Country after convincing Rare co-founder Tim Stamper it would be a better use of resources. Like Country, Land features pre-rendered graphics converted to sprites through a compression technique. Rare retooled Country's gameplay to account for the lower quality display, and David Wise and Graeme Norgate converted the soundtrack to the Game Boy's sound chip.Donkey Kong Land was released in mid-1995. It sold 3.91 million copies and received positive reviews. Critics praised it as successfully translating Country's gameplay, visuals, and music to the Game Boy, though they disagreed over whether it was an equal experience. Land was followed by Donkey Kong Land 2 (1996), Donkey Kong Land III (1997), and a Game Boy Color version of Country (2000), which attempted to replicate the SNES Country games more closely. Land and its sequels were rereleased for the Nintendo 3DS via the Virtual Console service in 2014, and on Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo Classics service in 2024.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:36 UTC on Thursday, 26 June 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Donkey Kong Land on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Kevin.
Released in 2011, the Nintendo 3DS was the last dedicated handheld put out by Nintendo. Sporting two screens, glasses-free 3D, and a host of other hardware features; it also boasted a games library full of memories. Even if more than a few of those games are locked behind a defunct eShop. Matt & Geoff are joined by Jared from Play Along Podcast to discuss Streetpass, the first 3D Pokémon, and how little we actually used the 3D slider. Enjoyed this console retrospective? Video games made their way into American homes as early as the 1970s. But it wasn't until the console wars in the 1990s that in-home video-game consoles became nearly ubiquitous.
