But if we are talking about using your Wii Remote to aim a virtual gun, I have to give the award for best usage to Resident Evil 4 on the Wii and of course the Metroid Prime Trilogy. Shooting zombies or space pirates never felt so good!! But while all of these are some of the best of the best of the motion control era of gaming, my true favorite lies within a much more lesser known title found on the 3DS (and I think PS Vita) made by Drinkbox Studios. That game is Severed--a game about battling your way through a purgatory-like dreamworld full of demons that you slice and dice with a sword using your stylus! The game's main themes are dealing with trauma, revenge, and loss. And of course, it all ends with acceptance.
Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.Marvel Studios appears to have found the leader of its new mutant team, as Deadline reported last week that Heartstopper and Warfare star Kit Connor has landed the role of Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops, in the future MCU X-Men film. Sources say Connor went through much the same process as Samara Weaving, who was attached as Emma Frost the week prior, meeting with Schreier and Marvel president Kevin Feige alongside a group of candidates who tested after the July 4th holiday before the studio settled on him. Neither Marvel nor Connor has confirmed the casting, and the film, written by Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-creator Joanna Calo, still has no release date. Cyclops has been played on screen before by James Marsden and Tye Sheridan, with Marsden set to reprise the role in December's Avengers: Doomsday. Sony and Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: Brand New Day crossed the one-billion-dollar mark overseas in just twelve days of release, making it the second-fastest film ever to reach that number abroad behind Avengers: Endgame. The Destin Daniel Cretton film now stands at $1.67 billion worldwide, split between $654.3 million domestically and $1.013 billion internationally, which makes it the twelfth highest-grossing movie of all time and only the sixteenth ever to clear a billion in foreign markets alone. Universal had a milestone of its own to celebrate, as Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey passed $1.1 billion worldwide to become the highest-grossing film of his career ahead of The Dark Knight Rises, while also becoming the biggest IMAX release ever with $289 million, and it still has China to open on Friday. James Gunn spent part of a Threads session last week putting down one of the most persistent rumors surrounding Matt Reeves' Batman trilogy, telling a fan who asked whether The Batman Part III was being filmed simultaneously with Part II simply, “I can deny.” The theory had gained steam over years of delays, most recently when a redesigned Part II logo appeared to work a Roman numeral III into the artwork, and it offered fans a tidy explanation for why the sequel has taken so long to arrive. In reality, Part II only began principal photography in London in June, and Warner Bros. has already pushed the film from October 2027 to February 18, 2028. Sony and Nintendo's live-action The Legend of Zelda has cast Australian actor Uli Latukefu as Ganondorf under a multi-picture deal, with Severance's Dichen Lachman playing Impa and The Handmaid's Tale's Yvonne Strahovski reported as a queen character. The late Sam Neill also filmed an undisclosed role before his death on July 13, marking one of the final screen performances of his career.Gareth Edwards has exited Universal and Amblin's untitled Jurassic World Rebirth sequel over creative differences, with the studios now searching for a replacement; David Koepp's script is finished and Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey are all still expected back for a 2027 shoot.A24 released the full trailer for Primetime, the Lance Oppenheim drama that Robert Pattinson produces and stars in as To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen, in theaters September 25.Lionsgate has confirmed that Michael 2 is targeting a production start toward the end of this year or in early 2027, with the sequel to this year's Michael Jackson biopic aiming for a 2028 release.Lionsgate is also developing a new Leprechaun film written by horror veterans Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, reviving a franchise that ran eight movies between 1993 and 2018.Nicholas Hoult has been cast in season 2 of HBO's Harry Potter series as Gilderoy Lockhart, a major character in The Chamber of Secrets that was portrayed by Kenneth Branagh in the 2002 film adaptation.

Physical media is officially on the clock: PlayStation has announced it will stop supporting discs (January 2028), and we have thoughts. Paying extra for a disc drive that's about to be a paperweight, digital games that never got cheaper, movie libraries deleted overnight, the used market vanishing — we break down what a disc-free future means for gaming dads, whether Xbox follows suit, and why Nintendo cartridges might end up the last physical format our kids can inherit. Meanwhile, Jeff's first-ever playthrough of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time levels up — off the phone and onto a proper (borrowed-from-the-kids) 3DS, after an hour-long road trip with his teenager to snag a used copy that felt like lining up for a midnight launch. Motion-control archery, a time-travel puzzle at the bottom of a well, and a genuinely terrifying Ganondorf. And fresh off six months in Colombia, Trevor has a parenting confession: what do you tell your kids after they watch you play "nope, only English" with a police officer at a traffic checkpoint? A very dad conversation about shades of truth, bending rules the smart way, and why granola bar thieves should learn to hide the wrappers. Plus kids "failing successfully" with Canada's famous bagged milk — and we're closing in on Episode 400! Subscribe to the Podcast! Cuarto programa de nuestro especial por el 40 aniversario de The Legend of Zelda, y toca hablar de una de las obras más importantes de la historia del videojuego: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. We play Chapter 5 and 6 of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. Along the way, we discuss the sparsity of Ganondorf, the new tension between the elemental forces of Sacred Power and Gloom, and the impressive achievement of a retelling of Ocarina of Time with less moral complexity.

There is a notorious IGN top 100 list from the year 2010, going over the top video game villains. Some of it is expected. The aliens from Space Invaders. Bowser. Ganondorf. Some of it is weird, but acceptable. King Hippo, for example. However, some of this bends the known understanding of "video game villain". Number six may shock you. It's time for some wild Nintendo debates! This week, we dive deep into The Legend of Zelda and answer the most important question: Which Zelda characters would make the best (or worst) spouses?
Nintendo and Sony Pictures are making a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, but that opens up a Breath of the Wild-sized amount of questions. What game should the movie adapt? Should it be standalone or the start of a saga? Who should play Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf? The brothers answer these questions and more with their pitches for the movie. We're back for part two of our Breath of the Wild / Tears of the Kingdom hot takes (and a few Age of Calamity ones in there too!). This week, we're tackling subjects like: was Yunobo the best character across the Wild era games? Do the Divine Beast dungeons offer a more welcoming for new players puzzle experience? Was it disappointing the Pirates in Lurelin were just Moblins? Are Remote Bombs the best rune/ability? Is Colgera seriously the most disappointing boss in the game? Was Calamity Ganon more interesting than Ganondorf? All this and so much more, PLUS our thought on the Nintendo Museum and strange American geography! Come have a blast with us! One of our favorite segments returns this week! We asked for YOUR spiciest hot takes regarding Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, and boy oh boy, you guys delivered, SO MUCH SO that this will be PART 1 of a two part episode! We're reacting to all sorts of takes, including: is Tears a great experience, or just glorified DLC? Is Cece's Mushroom hat better than the Couples Mask? Would Kohga have been a better choice of villain than Ganondorf? Do fighting bosses again in the Depths diminish the impact of fighting them in a dungeon? Speaking of, are the dungeons of Tears and Breath of the Wild better than many traditional dungeons? All this and so much more! If you want to contribute next week, feel free to do so, and we can even get Age of Calamity in on the action! Until next week! Support The Zelda Cast on Patreon! In honor of actor, LGBTQIA+ advocate, and poet VINCENT CALVARESE—a member of the CULT AND CLASSIC FILMS family—we are rebroadcasting a favorite, joyous episode: our “VIDEO GAME FAN FILM” pairing featuring the famed THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: HERO OF TIME (2009) and the lesser known and larger budgeted MEGAMAN (2010)! Sick of not having a film adaptation of the classic games we know and love? Well, these filmmaking fans promise to fill the void (and operate with a razor-thin budget!)It's a revisiting of "Attack of the Fan Films," this week on CULT and CLASSIC Films Podcast!Listen: Wherever you get your podcasts & at cultandclassicfilms.com/Watch: youtube.com/@CULTANDCLASSICFILMS/Subscribe at patreon.com/cultandclassicfilms for EXCLUSIVE cult movies sent to you every month!Buy exclusive films at cultandclassicfilms.com/Host: Nate WyckoffPanelists: Jeffrey Tucker & Greg JohnsonMore on THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: HERO OF TIME (2009):"Hero of Time" is a remarkable fan film that takes inspiration from the legendary video game series "The Legend of Zelda" by Nintendo. Released in 2009, this independently produced film captures the essence of the beloved franchise and brings it to life in a new and captivating way. The story follows the adventures of a young hero named Link, portrayed by actor Adam Boyes. Set in the world of Hyrule, Link embarks on a quest to rescue Princess Zelda, played by actress Hannah Fierman, from the clutches of the evil Ganondorf, portrayed by Kody Sabourin. Along the way, Link encounters various allies and enemies, as he learns to wield the power of the Triforce and becomes the hero of legend.Directed by Joerg Sprave, "Hero of Time" showcases impressive production quality considering its fan-made origins. The film expertly recreates the enchanting landscapes and iconic settings from the original video games. The attention to detail in the costumes, props, and practical effects pays homage to the source material while adding a unique cinematic flair. The performances in "Hero of Time" are commendable, with Adam Boyes embodying the quiet determination and bravery of Link. Hannah Fierman's portrayal of Princess Zelda is both strong and compassionate, providing a compelling counterpart to Link's heroism. Kody Sabourin delivers a suitably menacing performance as Ganondorf, capturing his villainous essence with flair and intensity. What truly sets "Hero of Time" apart is its ability to evoke the spirit of "The Legend of Zelda" series. The film seamlessly integrates elements from the games, such as iconic music, sound effects, and familiar items like the Master Sword and the Hylian Shield. Additionally, the film skillfully incorporates key themes from the franchise, including the concept of destiny, the power of friendship, and the triumph of good over evil.Despite its limited budget, "Hero of Time" manages to captivate fans of "The Legend of Zelda" and engage newcomers to the franchise. Its ambitious storytelling, combined with the dedication of its cast and crew, results in a fan film that is a loving tribute to the source material. "Hero of Time" serves not only as an enjoyable cinematic experience but also as a celebration of the enduring...

After a long, long layoff, Definitive Ranking returns to the Zelda Cast, and what better game to usher its return than the most recent entry into the series: Tears of the Kingdom! We're going through ten critical categories that make up the ingredients to a Zelda game - world, story, pacing, art style, dungeons, bosses/enemies, items, gameplay, extras, and music - and assigning them each a score to see where Tears ranks among the hallowed halls of greatest Zelda games of all time! Some of the scores will be no-brainers, while others might leave you scratching your head, so come along and play with us, and of course, be sure to share what you think! A packed week means a packed show. A Zelda Movie? Grand Theft Auto 6? Transparent MMO Design? What do all these things have in common? They all happened this week. Garrett is back in the World of Warcraft and for Retail no less with the Season of Discovery around the corner. If there is a fence, Kyle is behind it, maybe even still purchasing the wood. Remakes, remasters, 2024 incoming, and more.
We've got an action-packed episode this week, as we're relying on our amazing Zelda Dungeon Writing Team's Daily Debates to power the show. We're answering a bunch of different debate questions including: Does the new Animal Crossing LEGO make Zelda LEGO more likely to come? Should Nintendo produce their own Halloween merch? Should the series ever retire Ganondorf? Should the next 3D Zelda game take place in a land other than Hyrule? What would a Pokemon/Zelda crossover look like? What can Zelda learn from Super Mario Bros. Wonder? What's the most disappointing final boss in the series? Which game didn't capitalize on its mechanics? Was Nintendo "lazy" bringing back Korok seeds? All this and so much more, PLUS Zelda's Percentages returns next week, so go to the tweet here and get your question added to the show!
