After his arrest, investigators would learn that, by the time he appeared on the game show, he was also a killer. In the year that followed, Alcala would go on to murder several other women until he was finally caught and convicted for his crimes. At his trial, Rodney Alcala was found guilty of eight murders, among other crimes, but he is suspected of several other murders, perhaps as many as one hundred or more.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAssociated Press. 1980. When Cheryl Bradshaw appeared on the popular game show The Dating Game in 1978, she was charmed by bachelor number one, Rodney Alcala, and by the end of the episode, she'd chosen him to take her on a date. However, just minutes after the episode finished taping, Cheryl met bachelor number two in person backstage and was immediately uncomfortable and quickly contacted producers of the show to cancel the date. What Bradshaw didn't know at the time was that, in doing so, she had narrowly avoided spending an evening in the company of one of America's most notorious serial killers. At the time of his appearance on The Dating Game in 1978, Alcala was a convicted sexual predator who had served time for sexual assault and had only avoided a charge of attempted murder on a technicality. It's a New Year, and a New Switch! Well, hopefully not a "New Switch" in the way we had a "New 3DS." Look, just listen to the podcast and you'll understand what I mean. Anna Bryniarski, James Pelster, Blu Ryder, and Joseph Martin have all the details on the upcoming year, up-to-and-including: - Last call for theories, hopes and dreams for the upcoming Nintendo Switch Successor - Joe talks about the Mega Man episode of the Secret Level animation anthology - Blu and Anna unsuccessfully play Rock Paper Scissors - Public Domain Mickey Mouse gives James a licensed therapy session - What videogames not-of-the-future have we been playing in recent times? Sun Tzu said: "On this episode of the GameCola Podcast, we spend a significant amount of time discussing the subject of "tactics" games. Follow along with Joseph Martin, Alex Jedraszczak, John Rizzi, and Blu Ryder as they discuss their experiences with the genre and more!" Historians have been baffled by the meaning of this passage UNTIL TODAY. - Uh-oh, Jeddy played a videogame and didn't like it again! - Front Mission displays a lot of the major issues with tactics games - Most tactics games we have enjoyed have had significant departures from the standard formula - Mega Man Battle Network 4 is still frustrating for all the same reasons - The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer was very tactical - Tactical videogames we've been playing in recent times [Podcast Intro/Outro “5 is Average” by Meteo Xavier]
If Utahns thought they'd seen the last of Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow after her 2023 ski trial in Park City, they were wrong … kinda. “Gwyn” is back and center stage at Park City's Egyptian Theatre for the U.S. premiere of “Gwyneth Goes Skiing,” a satirical play based on Paltrow's ski-slope collision with retired optometrist Terry Sanderson and the courtroom showdown that followed. Joseph Martin and Linus Karp, writers and stars of the production, join host Ali Vallarta to share their favorite jokes-as-couplets and ask Salt Lakers for help returning to the scene of the crime. Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing, has been on the rise in India. It's a way of saying that businesses ought to act morally and responsibly towards the community and the environment. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has taken steps towards ESG transparency by issuing guidelines to focus on ESG investing. Nevertheless, the likelihood of companies engaging in greenwashing (reporting misleading claims) remains a concern. In this podcast, Joseph Martin Chazoor Francis, Markets Leader, ESG, PwC India, and a member of the Global Sustainability Standard Board, GRI, talks about the importance of ES investing, the recent SEBI regulations, ESG-based mutual funds, and more. Francis says that, along with the SEBI, the RBI recently announced requirements for green deposits to leverage retail investment power for ESG-related transformation. He adds that the country's investment environment is fast changing to support the green transition through ESG transparency because of all these regulations in the capital markets, the rules from various ministries, and the incentives supplied by the government. When it comes to ESG-based mutual funds, Francis points out that there are multiple factors that will affect them. Factors such as the general investment sentiment, and the trend regarding the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI) will affect ESG-based mutual funds. UN PRI aims to "promote sustainable investment through the incorporation of environmental, social, and governance.." However, Francis warns of the high probability of companies engaging in greenwashing and advocates for following sustainability reporting standards that include accuracy, timeliness, balance, completeness, comparability, reliability, and clarity to minimise the risk. On the first day of the war, Ukraine gained a new patriotic hero and Tetyana thought she had lost a son. But the story wasn't quite as it first seemed. Tetyana's son, Roman became world famous for defiantly swearing at a Russian warship which had threatened to bomb him and his fellow border guards on Snake Island, if they didn't surrender. A recording of the exchange went viral and the Ukrainian government declared that Roman and his comrades had died as national heroes. Tetyana was plunged into grief as her son was celebrated as a symbol of national resistance. But, as she recounts, events soon took an unexpected turn. The ramifications of what actually happened at Snake Island have become a battleground in the information war that is being fought over Ukraine, alongside the military battle. And like the conflict on the ground, this fight also has real consequences for the people whose lives it touches. In this podcast series, BBC disinformation reporter Marianna Spring investigates stories from Ukraine, Russia, and around the world, and hears from those caught up in the battle for the truth. Producers: Ant Adeane and Joseph Martin
