But musical stardom needs to compete with high school, the temper of a former Riot Grrrl mother, the morbid obsessions of a goth sister, and the eccentricities of bandmates that threaten to drive him and everyone around him insane. The balance gets harder after a ritual during a party in Portland's Forest Park causes him to wake up one day to discover that the creatures, witchcraft, and metal world he's obsessed with may be a bit closer to home than he preferred. Now he's...sort of a university administrator? But for a sci-fi action school to train the next next generation of ACTION SCIENTISTS including his sorta-secret robot son with the rebooted intelligence core from the Advanced Learning Algorithm Network that nearly killed all life on Earth, and framed Atomic Robo for it, and got Tesladyne shut down by the secret fascist science police, which indirectly threatened all life on Earth (again), and got a bunch of his comrades probably killed and definitely hunted as terrorists for a few years. Uh, but that was the old ALAN. The new Alan is a much nicer fellow, but he's still being kept secret on the Tesladyne campus because folks might link him to all that other stuff and, golly, that wouldn't be pleasant. The first Saturday of May every year is Free Comic Book Day, and for the first time ever the ACP crew are talking about this epic yearly event, what it means to stores, what comics to look out for and if indeed the comics are any good! Then the focus shifts to vintage characters getting a new lease of life in the comic pages of the modern age, and the good, bad and maybe strange choices we get in these reboots. All that and tons of great indie comics to check out, events to put on your calendars and more! Great stuff to check out this week - Free Comic Book Day, Mad Cave Comics, Dick Tracy, Space Ghost, Dynamite, Flesh and Ink, Tribute Press, Heroes Con 2024, Eleven O'Clock Comics, Cliff Cumber, Lawless Comic Con 2024, Steamroller Man, Matthew Schofield, Schism, Mark Abnett, The Last Case of Devon and Taylor, Kill the Bride, TBH Comics, Prawn: The Jumbo Shrimp, Pooh vs Bambi, Zenescope Comics, Complete Darkness 1, Clear Run 2, Art Nine Two Comics, The Black Book, Superpatriot
The Savage Dragon [vol 1] #3 (1992)We complete our run on the Savage Dragon mini-series this week as Dragon returns from a six-day nap to brawl with Bedrock, Youngblood's answer to Ben Grimm or Blok from Legion of Super-Heroes. Chicago is in even WORSE shape since Dragon's been out as Skullface and the poorly dressed Overlord make threatening phone calls and have disastrous Zoom meetings. Plus, the aforementioned Bedrock wants to see if Dragon is government material in the most obnoxiously destructive way possible. All this plus bodacious babes with bodacious trauma!Comic book talk starts at 00:15:42 unless if you'd like to hear us talk about, at length, the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards.Promo from HITHER CAME CONAN (https://linktr.ee/hithercameconan)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter (X) @angryheroshawn and @JenStansfield and email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTPlease rate, review, subscribe and tell a friend!
The Savage Dragon [vol 1] #2 (1992)Carrying on with the saga of The Savage Dragon, we pick up the Dragon in the Chicago sewers looking for an obese spider man (as opposed to Spider-Man or Spider-Ham). Dragon's been running ragged fighting crime and almost gets some companionship from his Daisy Dukes wearing neighbor gal. Unfortunately, Hellrazor and his cronies have taken over the mall, sat on ALL the chairs in the Brookstone and finished off the entirety of the bourbon chicken in the food court, leaving the Windy City paralyzed with fear. But as we've seen, Savage Dragon goes hard….but does he go TOO HARD?!?Also, we have an extended discussion about WrestleMania XL this past weekend. The Savage Dragon [vol 1] #1 (1992)We don't get around to messing with too many Image Comics but Savage Dragon is a great place to start. Outlandish in story and execution, the mighty Erik Larsen gives us a lot to talk about. For example, why does Savage Dragon have so much body hair despite being a reptilian? Is he of Mediterranean descent? Will the hair removal product Nair do the trick? Regardless, this series is wild, filled with chrome skeletons, hilariously timed explosion deaths and one of the most inefficient costume designs of all time.Promo from COUNCIL OF GEEKS (https://councilofgeeks.libsyn.com/)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter (X) @angryheroshawn and @JenStansfield and email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTPlease rate, review, subscribe and tell a friend!

Every now and then I like to highlight the fact that all this China stuff was forcast way back in 2004 by Michael Parenti, who said that the unipolarist neoconservative ideology that had hijacked US foreign policy envisioned a massive strategic confrontation with Beijing. "The PNAC plan envisions a strategic confrontation with China, and a still greater permanent military presence in every corner of the world," Parenti wrote in his book Superpatriot. "The objective is not just power for its own sake but power to control the world's natural resources and markets, power to privatize and deregulate the economies of every nation in the world, and power to hoist upon the backs of peoples everywhere — including North America — the blessings of an untrammeled global 'free market.' The end goal is to ensure not merely the supremacy of global capitalism as such, but the supremacy of American global capitalism by preventing the emergence of any other potentially competing superpower." Reading by Tim Foley.
