Beware the Slippery Slope We talk about the two sides of the Israel/Gaza war and how the media has covered what is happening. What we are told is not always correct or complete, and without seeing the big picture, it is difficult to make an accurate assessment. This is true for the wars that have occurred, the experimental gene therapy they called a "vaccine", and even what happened with George Floyd. We have to be willing to question everything. If killing someone in war is OK, then it can be a slippery slope to other bad acts. We can choose to glorify violence and destruction or we can choose to focus on peace and care. Small acts of kindness can have a larger impact than you might expect. Essentially, it comes down to "Do what is right", especially when no one is looking. Economist Christian Briggs joins The Real Story to break down why the deal could solidify U.S. dominance in the global chip race, protect against China's push to control supply chains, and preserve domestic production capacity. But he also warns of the risks: Intel's Foundry business isn't profitable yet, and excessive state involvement could set a dangerous precedent resembling socialism or even communism. We learn from other athletes about "body composition periodization" and share some caution, but also recognition, that elite athletes do "go there" for performance. In track, a new teen sensation has arrived: Cooper Lutkenhaus, just 16, stunned the world with a massive U16 World Record to finish second at the USA 800m trials. He is already the real deal, but that's no guarantee that he's not another star whose flame might flicker. We talk performance trends, hype, and the pitfalls of early stardom. There's also some heat on the track—of a different kind—as sprinters Noah Lyles and Kenny Bednarek engage in a bit of spicy back-and-forth. Genuine beef or PR play? Either way, it's getting people talking. Then we turn to IV drips—vitamin infusions marketed as wellness boosts. Ross and Gareth aren't buying it, calling out the pseudo-science, health risks, and the doping red flags. We also tackle criticism of World Athletics' SRY gene screen for eligibility in women's athletics. Ross breaks down what the critic got wrong and why women's sport deserves constructive criticism and alternative solutions rather than unproductive, false dismissals of proposed solutions. A lively disagreement ensues - let us know your thoughts! And finally—smelling salts banned in the NFL. Players are upset, but should other sports follow? In this week's sermon we continue our series "Tales as Old as Time" with the story of David and Bathsheba. While a story that is not fun to talk about, it shows some ways in which we can prevent falling into sin and shows us that God uses people who have fallen terribly. We're glad that you made it to this sermon! We are also available on Youtube. For more information on our worship services or church as a whole, visit fbcwest.com
The word “jellyfish” may bring up a memory of an unpleasant beach experience, or of nostalgic childhood days watching Spongebob Squarepants. Often jellyfish don't get the love that many other marine critters enjoy, but Spongebob certainly loved them, as fishing for jellyfish was his favorite pastime. Although jellyfish can be a nuisance and a hazard, they are an important component of marine ecosystems. Their lifecycle is fascinating, and their survival instinct is impressive. On this episode of Fish University, we'll dive deep into the world of cnidarians with someone almost as passionate as Spongebob about these brainless, boneless creatures. Ms. Diana Philips joins us from Reef Environmental Education Foundation to share with us her knowledge, passion, and a little humor about these misunderstood denizens of the deep. A Note from James:We kept recording because the conversation wasn't done. Part 1 was about writing and honesty. Part 2? It's about consequences—what happens when people believe their own hype, when we confuse being loud with being right, and when storytelling gets weaponized. Ryan Holiday has written about ego, stillness, and obstacles. But this part of the conversation gets at something deeper: what happens when power and narrative collide. And how do we live with integrity when the tools we use to create can just as easily be used to manipulate?Episode Description:In Part 2 of their conversation, James Altucher and Ryan Holiday explore the darker side of influence—how public figures lose their grounding, how movements become cults, and how audience validation can steer creators away from their original purpose. They discuss RFK Jr., Jordan Peterson, and Tucker Carlson—not as political figures, but as case studies in how public personas evolve under the pressure of attention. Along the way, they wrestle with their own roles as communicators: when to speak, when to hold back, and what it really means to be useful in a world full of noise. What You'll Learn:Why creators are vulnerable to audience captureThe line between healthy skepticism and conspiracy thinkingWhat separates honesty from manipulation in public discourseWhy power often comes at the expense of self-awarenessHow James and Ryan each wrestle with responsibility as public thinkersTimestamped Chapters:[00:00] Continuation from Part 1[01:00] How Personas Get Distorted Over Time[02:00] The RFK Jr. Conundrum[04:00] Audience Capture and Dopamine Loops[06:00] When Truth Becomes Optional[08:00] Jordan Peterson and the Burden of Symbolism[10:00] Platform Power vs. Message Integrity[11:00] What Happens When You Start Believing Your Own Brand[12:00] The "Edge" as a Career Strategy[13:00] The Slippery Slope from Insight to Grift[15:00] Building a Philosophy Business[16:00] How Stoicism Can Be Used or Abused[17:00] Tucker Carlson, Outrage, and Narrative Control[19:00] Being Useful vs. Being Loud[21:00] When You're More Known Than You Are Understood[23:00] The Fear of Changing Your Mind[24:00] When Silence is the Most Ethical Choice[25:00] Creating in Public Without Losing Yourself[27:00] The Most Powerful Words: “I Don't Know”Additional Resources:Ryan Holiday's website: ryanholiday.netEgo Is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday: AmazonJames Altucher on Twitter: @jaltucherThe Daily Stoic podcast: Daily StoicSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The Slippery Slope: A Gobblefunk Day Mix-Up!
Episode 2664 - Vinnie Tortorich and Anna Vocino discuss dining while on vacation, avoiding a slippery slope, and running with weighted vests. https://vinnietortorich.com/2025/06/avoiding-a-slippery-slope-episode-2664 PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS YOU CAN WATCH ALL THE PODCAST EPISODES ON YOUTUBE - Avoiding A Slippery Slope After a lesson in poetry and haiku, the topic of Summer vacation begins. (2:00) People want to indulge on their summer vacations, mostly at theme parks and on cruise ships. Vinnie had a lavish experience on a cruise once, but there was barely a gym! (11:00) He made do with what he had to work with. He also gets seriously seasick. The only thing to do on the cruise was gamble or overeat, neither of which he was interested in. Lately, many of Vinnie's consults have been centered around what a person, or family, eats on a cruise or at theme parks. (17:00) Make up your mind before you leave on how you are going to handle the event. (18:30) It's the key to avoiding a slippery slope! Anna gives a rundown of how you can approach the mindset. (20:00) Ask yourself beforehand about the emotional reasons, mindsets, and triggers you may have. Enjoy yourself, but be reasonable and plan. Anna reads a question from listener Bob Z. (35:00) Bob has a question about running with a weighted vest. It is not recommended to run with weighted vests. The long-term effect on hips and knees is not good. Rucking while walking is just fine, and it's best to have the waist strap that goes with it. Vinnie's new challenge for himself has been building a model train setup. (48:00) Anna's cheese bites are coming out, and Anna and Vinnie share ideas for some NSNG snacks. (55:00) More News If you are interested in the NSNG® VIP group, register here!
