Once, when we were in a spot where there was no light whatsoever, no moon and no cities nearby, I stepped out of the car, and the stars were so bright, I was almost knocked on my back. I had an existential moment thinking, "Oh, I'm in a universe I forgot. And look at all these planets that abound." There's a universal form of the Lord described in the Bhagavad-gītā and the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. But beyond that, there's the original beauty of the Supreme Personality of God Himself that's so captivating that He's known as Kṛṣṇa. It means He captivates everyone. There was a song written by George Harrison many years ago, "There's something in the way she moves." Actually it was originally "in the way He moves," but the producers thought, "Well, that won't fly." He was talking about Kṛṣṇa, "That attracts me like no other lover," and he was just singing a song. And there are myriad songs, not just from one who heard about Kṛṣṇa from someone else, but you go to the great ācāryas and poets, and they'll be saying—they'll—they'll want to write the choicest poetry. That's why Kṛṣṇa is called uttama-śloka. Everyone wants to write something to try to describe the limit of Kṛṣṇa's beauty, and they never get to that point of describing the limit, because it's unlimited. It's always becoming more beautiful and more captivating. And without this beauty, we're relegated to the reflection of beauty in the material world. Whatever natural scene we see, if you've ever noticed, it can't completely satisfy the heart. It doesn't reciprocate. There's a verisimilitude. It's the reflection of reality, and therefore we're attracted to it, and it's breathtaking for a moment, but you can't keep it within you. You can't—it doesn't reciprocate with you. But Kṛṣṇa is beauty, because His beauty, His opulence is non-different from Himself. By seeing Kṛṣṇa, the ultimate object for the for meditation—dheyam sadā—one can continuously, says the Bhāgavatam, look at Kṛṣṇa's beauty, and you'll never get tired of it. Other scenes you make you might get used to. If you've seen the ocean enough times, then you think, "Oh, I'm going to go somewhere else." Seeing enough sunsets, you forget about it, like, "Oh, that's suns to get in my eyes. Close the curtains. Let's watch TV." The Bhāgavatam says that everyone's looking for that beauty everywhere. There's never a time we're satisfied by it, until we see Kṛṣṇa, who's the source of all beauty. And this is what's available through bhakti-yoga—is the beautiful form of Kṛṣṇa and the descriptions of His beauty. And Rūpa Gosvāmī said, "This is the second element by which one doesn't even care about—" one who has seen the beauty of Kṛṣṇa and is pursuing the beauty of Kṛṣṇa no longer cares about liberation. They're only addicted to that. "I just want to see the beauty of Kṛṣṇa." ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------

George was quite busy between "All Things Must Pass" and "The Concert for Bangladesh".      However, many of the things he played on were not under his own name!    We look at two projects where George was a significant contributer: Gary Wright's "Footprint", and Billy Preston's "I Wrote a Simple Song".      Excellent playing, and a link between George's Beatles guitar-playing, his work on "All Things Must Pass", and his turn on John Lennon's "Imagine" (when he finally turned back to his own projects with "Living in the Material World!")

Spiritual Gravity: Rising Above the Pull of the Material World

The concept of "Spiritual Gravity" describes the inherent pull of the material world that can weigh down our hearts and souls, leading to feelings of heaviness, darkness, and even depression. After recently returning from a spiritually enriching journey through Morocco and Turkey, I experienced a familiar pattern—a temporary sense of dread or depression upon returning to a more materialistic environment. This heaviness that I felt after returning from spiritual travel reflects the gravitational pull of a world deeply rooted in matter and density. Just as gravity pulls objects downward, the material world similarly draws our spiritual selves into states of depression and disconnection. True spirituality, however, offers an invitation to rise and transcend this gravitational pull by reconnecting with the Divine, seeking expansiveness, ascension, and true fulfillment. The path toward spiritual ascension involves immersing oneself in environments and communities grounded in remembrance (dhikr), wisdom, and true knowledge, as preserved by the Prophets and the hearts of the truthful (as-Siddiqeen). Reflecting on this personal experience underscores the critical importance of spiritual reconnection and highlights the necessity of holding tightly to the lifeline extended by Allah Most High through the ages. Learning how to navigate and ultimately transcend the spiritual gravity of the material world leads to peace, purpose, and spiritual health.

Our guest today is George Harrison and Bob Dylan superfan Britt Eisnor. Check out her excellent Dylan content on Instagram. This movie is about George's mysticism, more or less, and weaves in and out of his very famous life story. There are some great talking heads, not all of whom are great people (I'm looking at you, Phil Spector) or come of as well as they think they do (and now I'm looking at you, Eric Clapton), and one conspicuous absence. Also, this movie would have you believe that George Harrison only recorded one solo album. It seems like his career as a musician continued on past 1970, but who can really tell for sure? When we're facing externally, we've turned away, and we don't realize our relationship. But when we do turn towards Kṛṣṇa, we become insiders, that means we're inside Kṛṣṇa. We're inside the family again. In Gajendra's prayers, Gajendra remarks that, "My Lord, You're never inattentive to me. It's not that when I pray, then that's when You pay attention." He said, "You're always paying attention." In fact, we're intimately connected with Kṛṣṇa, and we're never intimately connected with the material world. 'Asango hi dhyayam puruṣaḥ,' means we never really have a connection here. So, when we come to devotional service by choice, Gajendra says, then You're immediately responsive, because You're already just waiting. In 1.2.17 of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, 'svakītaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ puṇya-śravaṇa-kīrtanaḥ', the Prabhupāda writes in the purport that Kṛṣṇa wants us to come back to Godhead more than we can desire. He said, "Practically nobody wants to go back to Godhead, but Kṛṣṇa wants everybody to go back to Godhead and be insiders." So that's in this verse, samo 'haṁ sarva-bhūteṣu, na me dveṣyo 'sti na priyaḥ—that half of the verse refers to those who are externally focused, and for them, Kṛṣṇa is dutifully sending the checks. He doesn't even put His name on it. It's like some payment, an alimony payment, or something, whatever it is, but the person doesn't want to disturb the other person's mind, so they don't even put the name on it. They just make a direct deposit so that, "Okay, you don't want to...you don't want to know me anymore, so I'll still pay, but I'll just keep it anonymous." You don't even know where the payments are coming from. People don't even realize God's paying them all the time. He's kindly providing, as Prabhupāda said, for every living being, He is giving all their necessities and more, but everyone just thinks Eh.. there is no God. It's like one fish said to the other, "Do you believe in water?" And he goes, "Nah! I've never seen any water. I don't know what they're talking about." But we're enveloped by God's love all the time. He's providing. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

It is helpful to come down to what the basics are, and then, as Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura said, "Follow the simple path strictly." I just received a quote the other day from a friend, in which Prabhupāda said, "It's illegal to collect a lot of obscure quotes from a lot of different śāstras, just to show that you know more than other people about a topic." He said, "You only need a few books, but get to know them really well. Go deeply within several of these books—Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Bhagavad-gītā, Nectar of Devotion—for the purpose of being very clear about what's important." And Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura said, "Follow the simple path, but do it very strictly." Just because it's simple doesn't mean that you don't have to put your attention to it. You should be very strict about it. And then we also find that it's a lot deeper than we thought. "Oh, just sixteen rounds—that's all you're going to do?" If you actually chant sixteen rounds attentively, you realize that, "Oh, I'm barely doing anything. There's an ocean here, and I haven't even investigated more than just below the surface. What else is there?" And what to speak of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and Caitanya-caritāmṛta! Prabhupāda said on a morning walk, when there was an argument about reading many different kinds of books available from different authors, Prabhupāda said, "Yeah, fine, but assimilate what you have." And if you try to assimilate Bhagavad-gītā As It Is, it may be a lot deeper than you thought. Who can actually assimilate Bhagavad-gītā fully before moving on to every book available at Ras Bihari Lal, "the biggest little bookstore in the world"? I hope there's never an earthquake, because that place will really collapse. Turn The Boring Drudgery Of The Material World Into A Constant Festival | 10 Feb 2025

The Personified Vedas say in their prayers to the Lord that this is your greatest pastime, the way you extend yourself to the living beings in this world. And so the attitude and the order. If we pick up an order from the Lord and take it seriously and apply it, especially the order of how to assist him in saving conditioned souls, then Haridas Thakur said, we just want to alleviate your anxiety. And Prabhupada comments there that this is the best kind of service, is to alleviate the anxiety of the Lord. Some souls are lost here in the material energy, and we give them an opportunity to come out. And when we apply these two things, attitude, what's the first thing? Yeah, do anybody here have an attitude. Say, Yes, do your senses have an attitude? Mine do. I describe it as entitlement.I feel entitled to that. It's like no. I really think I should have that. And like no, we can't have it now, or ever. The second is order. If you just take these two principles, two ingredients, and you put them together, then you have a perfect life following the footsteps of Lord Nityananda. And magic happens wherever you go. You turn a boring drudgery of the material world into a festival wherever you go. And it's hilarious fun as Lord Nityananda, he's also funny, and his name Nityananda means he's always having fun. There's never a time when he doesn't have fun. And the only reason I don't have fun, at a certain point I get bored is because of two things, one is attitude and second one is order. And if I just come back to attitude and order, and I adjust them according to Lord Nityananda, then fun, fun, fun - Nitya, ananda! Nityananda is just fun from beginning to end. There's nothing to impede our fun. And the greatest fun of all is to go out as a representative, follow the order and in the attitude of Lord Nityananda, of bringing souls back to Krishna. And how much can you do that? Śamyāprāsa is smiling. How much can you do it Śamyāprāsa? Birds fly as high as they can in the sky. You can do it always. You can do it always and everywhere. That's why Lord Caitanya said 'yāre dekha, tāre kaha ‘kṛṣṇa'-upadeśa, āmāra ājñāya guru hañā tāra' ei deśa' (CC Madhya 7.128). That means world's open for business if you have the right attitude and you have the order, and if you follow the order. I remember first coming to the temple in San Francisco and not being able to look at the Deities. I looked at the flowers instead; that was as much specificity as I could handle. And if you tell somebody God plays a flute, it's like, how do you know and how would a god play a flute? It is almost abhorrent to people to know that there's a God who has specific personal qualities. One other observation I've had about gratitude is that if you have gratitude, it always traces back to a person, because a person means one who's conscious and who can have intention. You can't have gratitude unless somebody was intentionally kind to you. If you find $100 on the ground and you can't trace where it came from, or even if you can, you can't have gratitude for it unless you say something like, "I thank the universe," which people do sometimes, especially in California. Really thank the universe for this? In which case you're trying to personify that the universe has an intention. Why not take it a step further and say, okay, there's a person behind that, there's at least a goddess behind it somewhere. If we have any gratitude, that means there's a person behind it somewhere. Just going back to this sense of 'embrace the personality of God,' that's bhakti and that becomes relishable. It turns the whole bent of the material world—which is deny, deny God's personality—on the tip. And that's what we do. That's what the śāstras do. Every other sound in the material world is an annoyance except for the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahāmantra. And Caitanya Mahāprabhu's clarion call to the world, taking the harinām out into the street was a way of waking everybody up and saying no matter how pious you think you are, you're just in a pit in this mature world. Come out! The saṅkīrtana movement started here at ground zero, Śrīvāsa Aṅgana. There's so much spiritual power in this place because of the event that took place here, which is an eternal event that is still going on because it's a nitya-līlā of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu. If you fall on the ground here in a daṇḍavat, put your heart to the floor; you can feel the pulsation of that first harinām saṅkīrtana or of the nocturnal kīrtana that went on here. And you can pray: please let that vibration go into my heart and stay there and inspire me to take the Holy Name to every town and village, both through nagara-kīrtana and through literary kīrtana, as Prabhupāda said that there is a bṛhat mṛdaṅga. You can chant in the nagara-kīrtana and you can be heard for a few blocks, and nowadays a lot longer because everyone is watching it on YouTube. But when you write down the kīrtana and put it in a book and send it out like a message in a bottle to the world, then it can go everywhere. In fact, he noted that some devotees had given books to the son and daughter of one of the American presidents, and they carried them right into the White House. He said we would not have been able to take the nagara-kīrtana inside the White House, at least not at this point in history, but the books went in. So all this preparation for spreading the Holy Name of the Lord started here at Śrīvāsa Aṅgana. In this episode we explore how our "material world" influences the manifestation of TMS/MindBody Syndrome. Interestingly, the very symptoms that one experiences is influenced not only by one's own personal experiences, but also subconsciously through collective and cultural influences. This leads to the infinite expression of TMS symptoms that one may experience at any given time.Since your belief system is also a factor of the world in which you live, it can be difficult to break free from the mythology of physical symptoms resulting from physical causes. This is especially true when navigating the medical system (both conventional and alternative) as well as simply going about daily life in relationships with friends, family, and the general public.Healing TMS means breaking free from the belief system from which TMS is bred, seeing the holes in the materialistic logic so that you can embrace the truth of the multidimensional mindbody phenomenon.Hopefully you can start to get a glimpse of freedom from TMS - it's closer than you might think! For more support in your healing, check out the TMS Free Life Program (https://www.alter.health/tms-free-life) or 1-1 coaching with Dr. Ben (https://www.alter.health/mind-body-coaching) Links to more good stuff - GREEN FORCE! - www.visfoods.co (use the code AlterYourHealth for $10 off)- Eat More, Weigh Less Program - www.alter.health/eat-more-weigh-less- 1-on-1 Nutritional Analysis Package - www.alter.health/nutritional-analysis - Get the Alter Health weekly WFPB Meal Guides: www.alter.health/meal-guides- Thrive on Plants Program: www.alter.health/thrive-on-plants- TMS Free Life Program - www.alter.health/tms-free-life

There's a mode of chanting the holy name of the Lord, an attitude that is especially important, because there's not just chanting the holy name, but there's also avoiding offenses. They're called aparādhas. The word aparādha, ārādhana means proper mode of worship, and aparādha means not worshiping properly. It has to do with one's attitude. The aligning mode for chanting, or the advice which aligns us for chanting properly is 'tṛṇād api sunīcena taror api sahiṣṇunā amāninā mānadena kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ (Śikṣāṣṭaka 3)', and that is don't look for respect. Find your respect from your own sincerity and worshiping Kṛṣṇa, who will recognize you and appropriately engage you in service,.But give respect to all others without expecting respect in return. Is that fine? Audience:Yes! There's something to practice and also consider oneself very humble, whatever position we have as Vaiṣṇavas is marked by being humble. Kṛṣṇa tells Uddhava, when he's describing bhakti yoga, that the main point is one should show respect to all living beings. He said, The Vaiṣṇava is so respectful that he or she will offer obeisances, heartfelt obeisances, even to a dog, because he sees Kṛṣṇa there within the heart and sees the living entity as a spark of Kṛṣṇa So take this with humility and also make a discipline of not criticizing vaiṣṇavas. How may one do that? You can become preoccupied with your own shortcomings, not so that you become morose or disappointed, but do make a catalog of all the ways in which you feel that you can improve, and whenever you feel an urge, it's one of the vegas, I want to find fault in somebody that, instead of doing that, go back to your list and say, let me work on all this first, and as soon as I'm able to overcome all my faults, then maybe I'll think about it. It's procrastination for the right cause. Don't criticize vaishnavas, okay. Audience :Yes! And never write ill about vaishnavas on the internet, okay? Audience : Yes! And don't even read it. It's not your duty to read a criticism... Right around Thanksgiving (the American one, THE ONLY ONE), the Material World got a whole lot more material! The Harrison estate graciously reintroduced one of George's most acclaimed records to the world; via a sparkling, glorious Paul Hicks remix in honor of its' (approximately, infinite) 50th anniversary. There are many iterations of this current reissue, as Beatleworld continues its transition from “marketing exclusively for the masses” to “marketing primarily for boomers with loads of disposable cash”. In arguably the greatest national tragedy of 2024, Theater Tony (The Annoyance) and Theatre T.J. ("Madonna: The Musical") could only afford the 2-LP/streaming version of this title. (Producer Casey, please put an “awwwww” drop here. K? Then do it, damn it!) But fear not! The guys delve into this reissue with their usual panache, like a couple of panache-holes, but also find the holiday spirit to ask other hard questions, like:

Today, Dr Sharon Greene tells us how archaeologists explore how people lived in the past, what they believed and so on through the material remains they left behind. This can sometimes confirm or deny what the written records tell us – but most often it adds another layer to our understanding medieval Ireland. We chat about disciplinary challenges, how scholars can work together, Killeen Cormac, ringforts, cattle, sheep, St Brigit, ogham stones, the 'remote' western islands and settlement cemeteries. Prabhupāda said, "You have to engage in Kṛṣṇa Consciousness seriously." And he said, "You also have to be careful and not assume that I'm over the disease completely, to be attracted to the sense objects. One should not tempt fate or think one's entitled or think I'm liberated. We should always think, 'I'm not liberated, therefore I can't cut corners.' If you stay on the safe side and remain humble and think that at any moment I can be overcome by the powerful waves of sense gratification and you cultivate the higher taste for Kṛṣṇa Consciousness, it becomes possible to stay in that position even up to the time when we leave this material body and be attracted to the form of Kṛṣṇa, to the name of Kṛṣṇa, and not to anything in the material world. That's important because we are given a certain amount of time in this life. We have an āyu (time span), and when it runs out and there's some excuse why the body gets vanquished, when it's over, then one has to be ready for the test, the final test - 'ante nārāyaṇa-smṛtiḥ', which is the beginning admonition of Śukadeva Gosvāmī for everyone that "You should be ready at the time of death to remember God." So you have to practice it throughout your lifetime in all circumstances—to remain conscious of Kṛṣṇa while navigating the material world. One should try to have that superior taste for Kṛṣṇa, be attracted to the Deities, and not to the forms of the material world, which are so prevalent. You have to be self-observant and notice how you're feeling and how you're doing it. See that you feel that you're getting more enthusiasm to do more service, instead of feeling diminished or in a situation where, although you're feeling out of balance, you don't want to admit that you are, which can be dangerous because It's much more appealing and also realistic to understand the situation one's in now. As Kṛṣṇa says in the bhāgavatam (11.20.26) "sve sve 'dhikāre yā niṣṭhā sa guṇaḥ parikīrtitaḥ," in this verse the word "guṇa" means a good quality, and that good quality, he says, is to be self-obserant and understand what your qualification is at the present time and act according to that. And if you do what you can with what you have right now, you feel that you are getting strength from that, and you're feeling encouraged, and that's a sign that you're in a normal condition and that you're well situated. If you feel on the other hand that you are out of balance, it could be that you're not doing enough sādhana. That's another thing, because there are ways in which, when I start to feel dissatisfied with life or with Kṛṣṇa Consciousness, and start to consider that, well, it's all a show because I'm engaging in such a way that I'm doing it for show. I'm not doing it actually because I have a clear idea that it's in my best interest or that I enjoy doing it. May be also that sādhana has gone off into niyamāgraha—that I'm not really paying attention. So you have to be aware of that also. That's important because oftentimes, or mostly, my feelings of uneasiness about my life and feeling out of balance have to do with not having enough contact with Kṛṣṇa. In December 1982, the Police flew to the Caribbean island of Montserrat to record their fifth album. The executives at A&M Records were excited. A year earlier, the trio had generated hit singles like “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” and “Spirits in the Material World.” Suddenly, they were filling arenas. But the atmosphere in the recording studio quickly turned sour. Guitarist Andy Summers sniffed at lead singer Sting's demo of “Every Breath You Take” as cheesy pop. Drummer Stewart Copeland bristled when the singer tried to give him orders. And Sting, who had been contemplating going solo, was tired of pretending this was still a democracy: Why were they arguing about whose songs were best? Wasn't it obvious? This oral history, including interviews with Sting and the other members of the band, takes listeners inside the making of “Synchronicity,” one of the most popular records of the 20th century – and what eventually tore the band apart.
