This week, Pastor Jeremy continues our series in Acts with this sermon from Acts 22 & 23. He shares that without courage we will not be able to stand firm in a fallen world . . . and that being clever doesn't hurt!
Pastor Daniel shares on the necessity of courage to embrace the new, illustrating through biblical examples—such as the feeding of the 5,000, Peter launching into the deep, and Gideon's transformation—how faith in God's provision, willingness to let go of the old, and trust in His timing lead to spiritual growth, divine encounters, and miraculous breakthroughs.
Welcome to Generation Church! Life can feel like an endless battle against the wind and waves—struggles we didn't ask for, storms we never saw coming. Maybe you've wondered, Why would God allow this? Maybe you've tried to fight your way through on your own, paddling harder, grasping for control, questioning if Jesus even sees you.But what if the storm isn't proof of His absence, but the very place He's revealing His power? In Mark 6, the disciples find themselves in deep trouble—rowing hard, making no progress, exhausted, afraid. Then Jesus comes through the storm to meet them. He doesn't calm the waves first—He walks on them. He doesn't wait for their fear to subside—He speaks into it: Take courage! I am here!Step into this story and see that Jesus is more than enough in the storm. More than enough for our fear, our striving, our need. The very winds that threaten to sink us might just be the stage for Him to show us who He really is.+ + + + +Hey, while you're here, please help Generation by clicking the 'Subscribe' button, then click on the BELL (on mobile devices, also click 'ALL'). Pastor Daniel shares how true courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness to trust God and move forward despite fear, and that victory comes by flooding our hearts and minds with His Word, meditating on it, speaking it, and allowing it to transform us so that we triumph over fear and walk in His strength.
Pastor Daniel continues the theme of courage by discussing how true courage is not the absence of fear, but the strength to obey God despite overwhelming circumstances, by adopting heaven's perspective, standing firm in His ways, and allowing God to continually strengthen and repair the areas in our lives that may hinder our boldness.
Pastor Daniel shares that true courage, rooted in God's strength and presence, is essential for overcoming fear, standing firm in faith, and fulfilling God's will, just as Joshua was called to be “strong and very courageous” to lead God's people into their promised inheritance.

[Mark 6:45-52, Wednesday after Epiphany]
Read Online“Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!” Mark 6:50Fear is one of the most paralyzing and painful experiences in life. There are many things we can fear, but most often, the cause of our fear is the evil one trying to deter us from faith and hope in Christ Jesus. This line above is taken from the story of Jesus walking on the water toward the Apostles during the fourth watch of the night as they were rowing against the wind and being tossed by the waves. When they saw Jesus walking on the water, they were terrified. But when Jesus spoke to them and got into the boat, the wind immediately died down, and the Apostles remained there “completely astounded.” The boat on the stormy sea has traditionally been understood to represent our journey through this life. There are countless ways that the evil one, the flesh and the world fight against us. In this story, Jesus sees their trouble from the shore and walks toward them to come to their aid. His reason for walking towards them is His compassionate Heart.Often in times of fear in life, we lose sight of Jesus. We turn in on ourselves and focus on the cause of our fear. But our goal must be to turn from the cause of fear in life and look for Jesus Who is always compassionate and is always walking toward us in the midst of our fear and struggle.Reflect, today, upon whatever it is that causes you the most fear and anxiety in life. What is it that leads you to interior confusion and struggle? Once you identify the source, turn your eyes from that to our Lord. See Him walking toward you in the midst of whatever you struggle with, saying to you, “Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!”Lord, once again I turn to Your most compassionate Heart. Help me to lift my eyes toward You and to turn away from the sources of my anxiety and fear in life. Fill me with faith and hope in You and give me the courage I need to put all my trust in You. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2024 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. From the responsorial psalm: “For he shall rescue the poor when he cries out, and the afflicted when he has no one to help him. He shall have pity for the lowly and the poor; the lives of the poor he shall save. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you." A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (Mark 6:45-52) But when they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost and cried out. They had all seen him and were terrified. But at once he spoke with them, “Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!” He got into the boat with them and the wind died down. Taking place immediately after the Feeding of the Five Thousand, the account of Jesus walking on water emphasizes that the apostles did not yet understand the divinity of Jesus. Mark ends the passage with this declaration about his closest followers: "They were completely astounded. They had not understood the incident of the loaves. On the contrary, their hearts were hardened." Although they had witnessed a miracle during the day, their hearts remained in the dark, haunted by looming fears. At this moment, Jesus appears to them, in the fourth watch of the night, between darkest night and first light. Calming the wind and the hearts of the apostles, Jesus encourages them and replaces fear with hope and unbelief with belief. God, as a new day begins, help me take on its challenges and anxieties with courage and trust in Jesus. Mark says that as the wind was against the apostles, Jesus came walking toward them and got into the boat with them. No great leap of imagination is needed to see that Jesus is in the boat today in the Church and in the sacraments. And Jesus is present in the people I will meet today. "Yet, if we love one another," John says, "God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us." Lord, let me take heart in your presence today and trust in your mercy; take pity on me and rescue me. Jesus, I trust in you. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Paul is marching to Rome in chains as he must appear before Ceasar to testify about Jesus Christ. His journey has been dangerous and laborious, but God has brought him there safely. This story reminds us that we are to trust in God alone and not the idols of our age while taking courage with the strength he supplies daily. Tonight...we pickup in Acts 23:12. The streets outside have quieted down. Paul had stood firmly with the Lord... and withstood the onslaught from Satan. But just as Satan hounded Jesus all the way to the cross...so he decided to do the same thing to Paul the Apostle... in an effort to prevent the church from growing...and ultimately...prevent people from coming to Christ.

October 27, 2024. Fr. Tyler's homily for the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Gospel Mk 10:46-52 As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, son of David, have pity on me." And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the more, "Son of David, have pity on me." Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you." He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him in reply, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see." Jesus told him, "Go your way; your faith has saved you." Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.
