Trevor Lock was born in the past in England but now lives in the present all over the world. After being quite naughty at school he studied philosophy at University College London and then disappointed his parents by appearing on cult TV and radio shows in the UK including TMWRNJ, the BAFTA nominated British Comedy Award winning Star Stories and the Russell Brand podcast. He saw the light, abandoned mainstream mass media for the magic and connection of his live comedy events that are a cross between stand up comedy and group therapy. He also coaches communication skills to anyone who'll listen and runs the social experiment Reality Games where people from across the world are set experimental tasks and share their experiences with each other. In this episode I spoke with stand-up comedian Michelle Shaughnessy who talked about too high expectations, opening up to audiences, and knowing your worth. I was aware of Michelle as a comedian before she came to the UK in March of 2022, and had heard her 2020 album 'Botoxic' on Spotify. I was delighted to be able to see her 2023 work in progress show at the Leicester Comedy Festival, which was dominated by the audience-interactive style favoured by comedians like Trevor Lock and Russell Hicks. Michelle is a gifted comic with a naturally disarming manner that easily ingratiates her with her audience. She has a curiosity about people that makes her as confident in the conversation as in her material, and an earnestness that makes her relatable and endearing. She is also a wonderful person to talk to. In this episode I spoke with comedian Trevor Lock, who talked about not reading reviews, being cast by mistake, the magic of nothing becoming something, and how Lee and Herring are unnecessarily kind. The Edinburgh Festival was teeming on Friday 5th August, and we kicked off our run of twice weekly podcasts in style. Hosted by Copi Copstick, with special guests Mary Goggin, Trevor Lock, Matt Price and the ever fragrant Elaine Miller. PS. Totally forgot to mention getting locked in the Surgeon's Hall after-hours; 5 comedians and a surly Glaswegian trying to escape a venue was quite hilarious! https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1223931/

Trevor Lock is an English comedian, actor and playwright. He is noted for the circuitous and surreal nature of his comedy. He managed to come with a new form of comedy which involves audience participation in a show called Community Circle. Trevor's new attempt at making a thing that only some people will like is similar to Community Circle and Girl v Boy but funnier and not as good. Experiments In Participatory Entertainment: We Are Each Other explores the unexpected things we have in common. ‘Superbly comic writing.' (Sunday Times). ‘Funny, moving and clever.' (Scotsman). ‘In a different league really.' (LondonIsFunny.com).

I confessed that the most surprising place to have stand up is Poland after we started finding out the weird places that Trevor thought never thought there will be comedy. Trevor breaks down the reason why he stopped doing standup comedy full time. He explained the reason why he went back to get a job. He talks about being a cog in the machine in the craft if one's good at and how to break out of it. He talks about having no goal, having no structure in being on the arts or even life. Trevor also talks about being in the present and bing afraid to do a stand up comedy show. Trevor shows his appreciation about how comedians such as Jimmy Carr, Richard Herring and Stewart Lee has helped in his comedy career. I asked about trying to be healthy, dealing with bad criticism and learnt how to be okay. We ended off discussing about doing the arts in London. This episode is dedicated to my friend Sarah Munro, who sadly passed away in July. She was a fan of Trevor's work and a revoluntionary badass! Sammie and Trevor discuss why there arn't more women in comedy, safe spaces, the red pill movie & how to build a more inclusive society. Also bonus bumbling rant from Sammie about reports of violent censorship at the Anarchist Book Fair in London. (Nothing to do with Trevor.) RHLSTP #62: Paul Putner and Trevor Lock - TMWRNJ RHLSTP. In this and the next podcast Richard is catching up with some of the stars of the failed 1990s comedy show, This Morning With Richard Not Judy. The triumvirate remember the Edinburgh Fringe 1997, with the stage version of TMWRNJ which led to the TV series and how Trevor and Paul had Richard's penis waved in their face on a daily basis (in a play). They chat about how they were both witnesses and would-be saboteurs to the burgeoning romance between Richard and his one-time Shrine-based obsession, Julia Sawalha. We also chat about the special relationship that Trevor enjoyed with Nathalie and Paul's specialised expertise in performing as russet coloured disembodied heads.
