Where in the world am I? Eurail Travel planning   Hi there, I'm Dr. Mary Travelbest. I'm in San Diego now, sharing my best travel ideas and working on another book for you to enjoy: 5 Steps to Solo Travel, Part C. I'm about to launch on a 90-day trip around the world.   Listener Story Spotlight I want to tell you about a listener named Kristen. Kristen loves to travel. She recently received a Fullbright Scholarship and took a trip with her husband and sons to a foreign country, Portugal, for several months. She's full of great travel ideas and will be helpful as I continue to travel and make my adventures more mobile. She's encouraging me to keep going in my travels and is a professor in Southern California. Quick fire FAQ: The FAQ for today is:  Do you find that air travel dries your sinuses? Do you get dry and scratchy throats afterward? Yes, it happens. Let's talk about how to rid yourself of this in advance.    How to avoid the dryness of airline flights? The answer:   My solution is Saline Nasal Spray. I bought the 1.5-oz size for $4.00, which will last my entire trip. Before you get dry sinuses, squirt some in each nostril and then relax as it goes to work. What are the ingredients? Water, sodium chloride, disodium phosphate, benzyl alcohol, sodium phosphate, and benzalkonium chloride. Water and salt. There are three ways to use it: Squeeze twice in each nostril, and it delivers a spray, a stream, and a drop upside down. Take your pick. 60-second confidence challenge   Advice for Active Seniors :  “There is no shame in prioritizing and slowing down vs. overdoing. Most injuries happen when people are rushing. “Go slower, arrive sooner” is a helpful mantra.”  (Ellen McCabe) If you like today's Confidence Challenge, Chapter 2 of my book dives deeper buy it on Amazon or https://www.5stepstosolotravel.com   See Book A for addressing all of these items.   Today's destination is Eurail Travel Planning I said: You are traveling in Europe in the Summer of 2025. You arrive in Athens, Greece, then go to Krakow, Warsaw, Poland, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, and end in Edinburgh, Scotland, where you leave the EU. You will travel for five weeks. How many days will you want to use the Eurail pass for trains and ferries? Plan the trip, including seat fees and senior discounts with these countries, and suggest other places that would be a good stopping point or worth seeing. I am a solo woman in my prime. Include a mention of the low-cost airlines that I should take when not on the train or ferry.   Answer:   1  Where a Eurail day genuinely saves you money Below is every leg: (a) scenic or pricey at full fare and (b) covered or discounted by the pass if the trip is a low-fare train, like under $10.regional hop, we skip the past day and just pay cash—why burn powder you might need later?    1  Day 3 Athens → Kalabaka  €3 IC seat  Sunset over Meteora cliffs—worth the four-hour train.  2  Day 5 Kalabaka → Thessaloníki  free (regional) No supplement, but one more travel day.  3  Day 9 Krakow → Oświęcim (return) free (regional) Auschwitz day trip; counts once.  4  Day 11 Krakow → Warsaw (EIP)  ~PLN 35 ≈ €8  High‑speed, mandatory seat.  5  Day 13 Warsaw → Gdańsk or Toruń (optional)  PLN 3 ≈ €0.70 Use if you “dive” north.  6  Day 16 Tallinn → Helsinki ferry  deck = free; cabin = ‑20 %  Tallink Silja It counts oas ne travel day.  7  Day 17 Helsinki → Tampere & back  €0–€6 VR seat  Eurail Pendolino; book in app.  8  Day 19 Helsinki o/night ferry → Stockholm  deck = free; cabin –20 % Same Tallink perk.  9  Day 21 Stockholm → Uppsala (return)  €0 (regional) Same‑day out‑and‑back.  10  Day 22 Stockholm → Gothenburg  ≈ €7 SJ seat  Eurail Community 3 h X2000.  11  Day 23 Gothenburg → Oslo  free No reservations.  12  Day 25 Oslo → Bergen  ≈ NOK 50 ≈ €4 seat Bergensbanen panorama.  13  Day 26 Bergen → Flåm train + Nærøyfjord boat  boat covered A rail‑and‑fjord combo.  14  Day 30 Copenhagen → Roskilde day‑trip  ≈ €9 seat  Eurail Vikings have & an easy return.  15  Day 32 Edinburgh → Inverness  £0–£5 seat UK still in the Eurail network.   * Fees are 2ᵈ ‑class, summer 2025 published rates.   Total Eurail travel days = 15 – the cap of the 15‑days‑in‑2‑months Senior Global Pass  2  What about the long, awkward gaps? Why wrestle with two‑day rail marathons when a 90‑minute hop costs less than your hostel?   Segment Suggested airline(s) Typical July fare if bought 3 mo ahead Thessaloníki ✈ Krakow Ryanair, Aegean €55–€85 Warsaw ✈ Tallinn airBaltic, LOT, Ryanair €45–€90 Bergen ✈ Copenhagen Norwegian, SAS €65–€110 Copenhagen ✈ Edinburgh easyJet, Ryanair, Norwegian €40–€80   Question: could you train Thessaloníki→Krakow via Budapest? Yes—but it burns 2‑3 pass days plus €30‑€45 in night‑train supplements. The low‑cost flight is simply cheaper and quicker.   3  Five‑week skeleton itinerary   Week Base & ideas Safety‑first extras for a 65‑yr‑old solo traveler  1 Athens 3 d – dawn Acropolis, Plaka food walk → train to Meteora 2 d (monastery sunsets) → Thessaloníki 2 d for Byzantine walls & waterfront. Central hotels near Syntagma & Aristotelous squares; use the eat taxi app after dark.  2 Fly to Krakow 3 d (+ Auschwitz) → Warsaw 2 d → optional day to Toruń or Gdańsk. Women‑only dorms at Greg & Tom (Krakow) and OkiDoki (Warsaw); trains arrive before dusk.  3 Fly to Tallinn 2 d → ferry to Helsinki 3 d with day‑trip to Tampere—Telliskivi creative city, Suomenlinna flat walks; Bolt taxis for late returns.  4 Night ferry to Stockholm 3 d (+ Uppsala) → train to Gothenburg 2 d → rail to Oslo 2 d. Stockholm hostel “City Backpackers” has curtained bunks; carry Rail Planner live‑trip link to share location.  5 Oslo‑Bergen rail & fjords 3 d → Fly to Copenhagen 3 d (+ Roskilde) → Fly to Edinburgh; finish with Highlands loop 4 d (Inverness, Aviemore hikes) before departure. Fjord cruise boats have good handrails; Scottish B&Bs offer single rooms beside stations.   4  Is the pass still worth it? That's $200-250 saved, plus the flexibility to reroute if wildfires, strikes, or your whims intervene.   5  Quick checklist before you lock it in Buy the Senior Global Pass (15 days/2 months) before prices rise.   Book the four trains with limited seats (EIP Poland, X2000 Sweden, Bergensbanen, Copenhagen reservations) as soon as reservations open—usually 60–90 days in advance.   Use the Rail Planner app to activate travel days on the morning you board; keep two blanks until the very end in case you shuffle plans.   Flights: watch Friday flash sales on Ryanair/Norwegian; they routinely drop

Ryanair has introduced a €500 fine for disruptive passengers whose "unruly" behavior results in them being taken off the plane. The hope is that the fine will act as a deterrent for passengers who cause disruptions, but is this enough to stop this behavior?Joining Kieran to discuss is Eoghan Corry, Owner and Editor of Travel Extra and Michelle Walsh Jackson, AKA the Novel Traveller.

Have you had to deal with a disruptive or unruly passenger while aboard a flight? Well, in a bid to tackle what they call an “industry-wide” issue - low fares airline Ryanair are set to introduce a €500 fine for passengers who have been removed from the plane due to unruly behaviour. But, is this a fair measure - will it act as enough of a deterrent, and have you had a flying experience ruined by a rude and disruptive passenger?Joining Andrea to discuss is Travel Writer Joan Scales, as well as listeners.

U.S. Global Investors CEO Frank Holmes joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the ongoing momentum in the global travel sector and its impact on two of the firm's flagship exchange-traded funds: JETS, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and TRIP, listed on the London Stock Exchange. Holmes highlighted that both ETFs are powered by smart beta strategies, targeting companies with strong revenue momentum despite what he described as a “negative narrative” surrounding the travel and airline industries. “Even though the fundamentals are so strong, there's a negative narrative towards travel and airlines,” Holmes noted, emphasizing a disconnect between media sentiment and underlying performance data. He pointed out that U.S. gasoline prices remain below last year's levels—a positive driver for both consumer travel and airline margins. This has coincided with a surge in travel demand, with a Deloitte survey showing more than half of Americans plan to take summer vacations. Holmes also noted a significant rebound in European travel, citing recent comments from Ryanair's CEO and the growing economic influence of digital nomads, now estimated to number around 40 million globally. Beyond air travel, Holmes highlighted a resurgence in the cruise industry, which he said is benefitting not only from pent-up demand for experience-based travel but also from airline-linked travel activity needed to reach cruise ports. He remains “extremely bullish” on travel-related industries and expects continued upside for both the JETS and TRIP ETFs through the second half of the year. #proactiveinvestors #usglobalinvestorsinc #nasdaq #TravelETFs #JETS #TRIPETF #FrankHolmes #USGlobalInvestors #AirlineStocks #CruiseStocks #SmartBeta #TravelBoom #ProactiveInvestors

Was it a bold moral stand—or a clumsy rhetorical nosedive? Next, we wade through the murky waters of Thames Water's £122.7 million fine, the biggest in UK history, as they continue to leak both sewage and credibility while drowning in £20 billion of debt. Is failure now the British benchmark for business? Finally, we take off (in budget class) to dissect Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary's eye-watering €100 million bonus. An Irish airline has announced a new based aircraft and three additional routes at Shannon Airport. Ryanair has confirmed that its fourth based aircraft at the facility will enable it to run services to Lapland, Madeira and Madrid from Winter 2025/26. Extra flights have also been added to existing routes to Alicante, Edinburgh, Krakow, Lanzarote, Manchester and Wroclaw. The announcement is expected to boost Ryanair's annual passenger numbers through Shannon per annum by 20%, or 100,000, to over 1.6 million, while supporting 1,500 local jobs. The airline's Irish Growth Plan states its intention to boost its Shannon passenger numbers to three million and its number of aircraft to six by 2030. Ryanair Chief Commercial Officer Jason McGuinness has been telling Clare FM's Seán Lyons only a shift in national aviation policy can bring about a further increase in passenger traffic through the Midwest base.

Drawing from actual events like the 2021 Ryanair incident in Belarus, he demonstrates how truth provides the perfect foundation for compelling fiction.Michael's journey from journalist to screenwriter to novelist offers valuable insights for creatives navigating multiple storytelling formats.Whether you're fascinated by espionage, curious about the craft of thriller writing, or interested in how personal experiences shape fiction, this episode illuminates how writers transform cultural understanding into narrative gold. The Collaborators A brilliant young intelligence officer and a troubled heiress stumble into a global conspiracy that pits present-day Russia against the CIA in this electrifying, globetrotting spy thriller.  Criss-crossing the globe on the way to this shocking revelation are disaffected millennial CIA officer Ari Falk, thrown into a moral and professional crisis by the death of his best asset, and brash, troubled LA heiress Maya Chou, spiralling after the disappearance of her Russian American billionaire father. The duo's adventures take us to both classic and surprising locales – from Berlin and Tangier to Latvia, Belarus and a semi-abandoned technopark outside Moscow. Follow Michael IdovSend us a textSupport the show"Enjoying 'The Conversation'? With summer just around the corner and thousands of people set to jet across Europe. However, there are growing concerns that some of those flights won't even get off the ground. Last summer travelers experienced the worst air traffic control delays since 2001 and the same is expected again for this year. To tackle this issue, Ryanair are calling for reforms to increase staff numbers and the deployment of better technology. Pat discusses this further with Jade Kirwan Ryanair, Head of Communications at Ryanair.

Popular Irish low-cost airline Ryanair has extended its suspension of flight services to Tel Aviv until July 31, following the Houthi missile strike near Ben Gurion Airport at the beginning of May. More chaos is expected for Israelis over the busy summer holiday period. Mark Feldman, CEO of Ziontours, told KAN's Mark Weiss that his travel agency will now only book flights on Israeli carriers for passengers flying to and from Israel.

//The Wire//2300Z May 13, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: BOMB THREAT GROUNDS AIRCRAFT IN BELGIUM. ARSON ATTACK STRIKES BRITISH PM'S RESIDENCE.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE----- -International Events-Belgium: This morning a bomb threat was reported onboard a RyanAir flight inbound to Charleroi Airport, prompting a security lockdown. Once the aircraft landed at the airport, passengers were evacuated at a remote section of the airport while the aircraft was inspected. It is unclear as to if any explosive threat was found onboard the aircraft.United Kingdom: An arson attack was reported at the Prime Minister's residence yesterday afternoon. PM Starmer's private residence in North London was attacked by an assailant, who set fire to the front door of the structure. One assailant has been arrested in conjunction with this incident.AC: Local authorities are keeping quiet regarding this incident, so details are very hard to verify. However, this appears to be the fairly standard Molotov attack, or something similar.Middle East: President Trump's visit to the region continues, with mostly trade deals being the focus of proceedings so far. This morning the United States and Saudi Arabia signed what the White House calls the largest arms deal in history, a $142 billion agreement for various American arms. President Trump also announced the removal of sanctions from the nation of Syria.France: This afternoon an attempted kidnapping was reported in Paris, involving a family member of a major cryptocurrency exchange executive. The victims, who have not been identified, successfully evaded capture from the assailants who attempted to pull them into an unmarked van. -HomeFront-Maryland: A multi-alarm fire was reported at a vacant mattress warehouse in west Baltimore overnight. Amtrak service was briefly interrupted due to the fire, as the rail lines were located directly adjacent to the burning structure.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: The kidnapping of crypto executives has become a rather common occurrence throughout Europe over the past few years as the cryptocurrency world becomes much more high profile. Several CEOs of crypto exchanges have been robbed, or kidnapped and held for ransom in very sophisticated heists over the past few months alone. Back in January, a family member of a crypto exchange executive was kidnapped in Paris as well, and his amputated finger sent to police. This individual was finally rescued on May 5th by counterterrorism forces. Now, roughly a week later, another high-profile kidnapping was attempted in the same exact city. Black-bag street kidnappings appear to be the main vector for the kidnapping ring, which also bears the hallmarks of a much more substantial organized crime syndicate. Either way, most of the crypto executives that have been involved in these cases have demonstrated rather poor personal security (PERSEC), and have been known to present significant vulnerabilities via posts on social media.Analyst: S2A1Research: https://publish.obsidian.md/s2underground//END REPORT//

Astăzi, situația s-a schimbat.
