Kiváló találós kérdés az, hogy ki volt Japánban a Tsutsumi, Mori, Kobayashi, Yoshimoto négyesfogat. Az adásban erre ott van a válasz. Érdekes világ lehetett a nyolcvanas évek második felének Japánja a maga kiemelkedő gazdagságával. Amit aztán egy hihetetlen tőzsdei összeomlás követett. A Nikkei igazi 2023-as felállásához aztán szükség volt a világ legjobb részvénypiaci promóterére, Warren Buffett-re. A japán társadalom látványos problémái ellenére is lenne mit tanulnia a világnak a felkelő Nap országától. Our guest in Episode 27 is the musician, artistic director and all-round Liverpool legend, Jayne Casey. She formed the short-lived but influential 70's band Big In Japan which boasted Ian Brodie, Holly Johnson, Bill Drummond and Budgie in its ranks. Then she founded Pink Military and Pink Industry before finding herself at the epicentre of the dance music explosion of the 90's as part of the CREAM empire. Her two-volume autobiography is out in 2025 and if it's anything like this episode of Misadventure in Music with Ian Prowse and Mick Ord it will be a real firecracker. Enjoy
Ian Broudie and the Lightning Seeds are about to set out on their 35th Anniversary Greatest Hits Tour – aka “beery parties”. He talks to us here about the first bands he ever saw and played in, which involves … … memories of the Liverpool School of Language, Music, Dream and Pun. … the secret of seeming enigmatic: “Never finish your sentences …” … how Three Lions brought a whole new audience and the irony of a singer who didn't front his biggest hit. … why the Ramones and Talking Heads made him sell his old records. … first requirement for success: “being able to make a fool of yourself”. … when Captain Beefheart forgot he was booked for an art show and painted all the pictures the night before. … how a part in a Ken Campbell play launched his career. … seeing the Beatles, aged seven – “Shut your eyes and put your fingers in your ears”. … when Eric's in Mathew Street seemed the centre of the universe. … “for the first time ever I'm not suffering from Imposter Syndrome – I AM THE SINGER!” … Free, Pink Floyd, Elvis Costello, XTC, Big In Japan and the Sausages From Mars. … making records that are “an Andy Warhol pop-art splash of colour on a wall”. Discovered after a twelve hour boat ride to a remote Japanese island, Paul and his wife have been importing this into the United States for the better part of a decade and they have quite a story to tell. Tune in to hear about the magic of Koji, the place it occupies in modern Japan, and how it works in cocktails and highballs. Spoiler alert, but one answer might actually be “with Cherry Coke.” Plus, the state of the world kinda sucks right now but don't worry. Greg has a plan to fix it. I'm just off the heels of a phenomenal trip to Japan. It was precious time, two weeks with the whole family. And though I did not pack my podcaster hat, I couldn't help but immerse myself in the country, the culture, and sought off the beaten trail places where ancient history was kept alive right next to mega-modern skyscrapers. I had to share some of my favorite stories, and moments, with you, and am doing a deep dive into the clay figurines I saw first hand at the Tokyo National Museum that are fixtures on History Channel's Ancient Aliens, dedicating an entire episode to dogus and the connection I feel they have with an ancient spiritual creature from Japan.Let's get into it! Stories from Japan 2024!General comments about the gift of travelWe travel for a myriad of reasons, to reconnect with people; to stretch out of our comfort zones, to shift or expand our perspectives; and at least temporarily to suspend the bellybutton-close vision we have of reality, yes zooming out on that miopic point of view.My recent trip did just that. 6000 miles by plane, Japan is a country that spent most of its history isolated from the western world. Tokyo is a city that is as large as New York City and London COMBINED, which is hard to wrap my mind around. Japanese culture is calcitrant in its manners, formalities, customs, and timeliness. Yes, even in the midst of modern times where everyone is plugged into social media; their culture remains intact. Though I did catch a few moments, slips of some pushing for this steadfast culture to change, subtle glimpses from the youth. Teeny tiny acts of rebellion; anarchy in a sense, but in order to spot them my vision had to become microscopic. And part of my vision came from being confronted by an officer at a baseball game. But more on that later.Sources and MaterialsAsakusa's Sensoji TempleIf you wish to see the objects found in the burial mound I climbed click hereGreat blog post about the place I went on my solo adventure - Todoroki ValleySetagaya - a place of art and literature - guideDid you hear the good news? On this, the week of the NYC premiere of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, we're talking about the pressing questions on everyone's mind like: just why is Ghostbusters so big in Japan? And why does Japan get all the cool stuff like the cool posters, music video, and Frozen Cafe pop ups? Don't worry, we also talk about other things this week too like the premiere event in NYC, Hook and Ladder No. 8 being frozen over to benefit a good cause, Adam Savage's Tested set visit, popcorn buckets, YHS' Firehouse Fridays, and more! But seriously, why does Japan get all the cool stuff? And why does Ghostbusters resonate so deeply there?
