Join Tim Johnson and Chris Shipley LIVE from the AKC Andrew Downs Studios for Episode 7.10 of Old Man Strength with Iowa media legend Maxwell Schaffer. From his early days as a pipsqueak in Hershey, Pennsylvania, to becoming a radio staple for over 42 years, Maxwell shares his journey through theater, music, family moves, and building a life in Iowa. They dive into the evolution of radio (from spinning vinyl disco records to digital and AI), the lost art of going out to experience live theater and local music, and what he wants to be when he "grows up" — producing plays and acting. This episode is proudly sponsored by:Revelton Distilling Company, Kyle Lehman at Wintrust Mortgage, US FEX Shipping, Jenny Farrell at REMAX Concepts, Styled by JJ BoutiqueLIVE from the AKC Andrew Downs Studios. Real talk, no filters.
John 15As we look at what it means to live a fruitful life as a believer, it all centers on obedience to Christ in his Word and dependence upon him in prayer. We will break down the idea of fruitfulness into three vital areas: personal character, intentional evangelism, and lasting discipleship. This message challenges us to examine our own lives and consider where we have been unfruitful.
Pivots That Pay OffA $6,000 loss on a house flip that turns into 11 leads. Four kids in six years while walking construction sites and picking tile. A partnership offer that lands like a “cinder block from heaven.” Sarah Schaffer's story is the kind that makes you rethink what progress looks like when you're a working mom building a business in real estate. We talk about what drives a smart pivot: leaving a comfortable boutique brokerage to join Sotheby's for continued growth, new standards, and the kind of mentorship that changes how you work. Sarah shares how partnering with Anne Shaeffer reshapes her view of time, boundaries, and long-term sustainability in a career where the phone never stops. We also get specific about the practical systems that keep an entrepreneurial household running, from shared calendars to kids learning real responsibility instead of being “managed” 24-7.Then the conversation shifts into what most people don't see: neurodiversity in the family, a late autism diagnosis at 16, dyslexia, and the hard hindsight that comes with connecting the dots later than you wish you had. Sarah's honesty opens up bigger questions about community, support, and how we advocate for our kids and ourselves. We also hold space for deep grief after a sudden family loss, and how faith and the Live Like Gina Foundation help transform pain into purpose. If you're building a real estate career, navigating motherhood identity shifts, or trying to create real work-life balance without burning out, this one will stay with you. Erich Schaffer argues climate science contains major blunders, chiefly that water vapor cools the planet and provides negative feedback. He explains the greenhouse effect as determined by emission altitude and the adiabatic lapse rate, criticizing older “back radiation” explanations. He claims climate budgets and attribution studies overstate surface emission by assuming Earth's surface is a blackbody, ignoring water's non-Lambertian behavior and ~0.91 hemispheric emissivity, which he says inflates the greenhouse effect and misattributes missing radiation to water vapor. He highlights latent heat cooling and contends empirical “proxy” methods used to infer strong positive water-vapor feedback are invalid due to lapse-rate behavior. He concludes climate sensitivity would drop to ~1 K or less.00:00 Meet Erich Schaffer01:06 Why Climate Basics Matter04:52 Greenhouse Effect Explained07:30 Lapse Rate Physics10:52 IPCC Definition Shift12:38 Debunking Back Radiation16:04 Cloud Window Mistake19:25 Latent Heat Cooling20:40 Who Causes Warming31:04 Reading the Spectrum33:46 What CO2 Forcing Means37:03 Deriving 3.7 Wm241:41 Water Vapor Feedback Setup45:35 Models vs Observations46:57 Empirical Feedback Proxies51:10 Calculating Feedback From Slopes54:16 Super Greenhouse Tropics Claim56:52 Lapse Rate Versus Water Vapor58:45 Moist Adiabats And Latent Cooling01:00:58 Clouds Versus Water Vapor Paradox01:05:21 Water Reflectivity And Polar Amplification01:09:55 Infrared Emissivity Of Water01:15:01 Surface Emissions Overstated01:21:16 Reattributing The Greenhouse Effect01:28:30 Thought Experiments Removing Water Vapor01:34:26 Why Regional Proxy Fails01:40:24 Seasonal Proxy Broken By Inversions01:44:37 Sluggish Troposphere Explains Slopes01:49:33 Wrap Up And Next Partshttps://x.com/erich_schafferhttps://greenhousedefect.com/=========Slides, summaries, references, and transcripts of my podcasts: https://tomn.substack.com/p/podcast-summariesMy Linktree: https://linktr.ee/tomanelson1

Frost may surprise some early risers today. Stu Muck says it's another weather system slowly moving through the state. The good news is that temps will warm, and we should be able to string together a couple days of dry weather. Joseph Schaefer arrived in Canada from Poland in the 1930s and built his career in Montreal's garment district at a time when the industry ran on instinct, relationships, and trust. He had an eye for fashion, a gift for reading people, and a way of doing business that set him apart early. In this episode of Big Shot, Joseph joins hosts Harley and David to reflect on how he found his way into the garment trade and helped shape what Chabanel would become. He shares how he built partnerships that lasted decades, why he never lost a partner, and how he gave others ownership long before equity was common practice. This is a story about a different era of entrepreneurship—one where deals were built on reputation, capital came through relationships, and success depended on understanding both the product and the people behind it. Joseph also reflects on what's changed, why that kind of success is harder to replicate today, and the role his values and faith played in how he built his life and business.—In This Episode We Cover:(00:00) Intro(01:06) Early days after immigrating to Canada(03:10) How Joseph got his start in entrepreneurship(07:38) Learning the craft with help from his sister(09:55) When he brought on salespeople(11:27) How he built Chabanel(14:20) Joseph's approach to capital and equity(18:16) How Joseph won over banks(22:24) Why Joseph's success wouldn't be repeatable in today's market(25:45) How Joseph managed partnerships(29:00) Joseph's legacy(31:52) Joseph's advice for young entrepreneurs(32:50) His relationship with the Bronfmans(35:20) The role of faith in his life—Where To Find Big Shot: • Website: https://www.bigshot.show/• YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@bigshotpodcast • TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@bigshotshow• Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bigshotshow/ • Harley Finkelstein: https://twitter.com/harleyf • David Segal: https://twitter.com/tea_maverick• Production and Marketing: https://penname.co

In hour 2 of The Drive, Zach and Phil continue their conversation on Mike Evans calling out Gabe Landeskog for underachieving. Is it fair to call Landeskog underachieving after a slow start and missing so much time this season? We pivot the Broncos and look at the running back market as David Montgomery was traded this week, Breece Hall was franchise tagged by the Jets, and Kenneth Walker not getting tagged by the Seahawks. Will the Broncos be big spenders at running back, paying someone $8 million or more per year? Today's "Three Count" includes Brennan Marion's comments on the Buffs after their first practice after the death of Dominiq Ponder, Rob Walton reportedly buying a 10% stake in the Diamondbacks 2 years ago, and the Colts placing a transition tag on Daniel Jones. We react to Rockies' Paul Depodesta's comments on why Schaffer was the right hire for their manager and raising the floor of the team by bringing in veterans.
In hour 4 of The Drive, Zach and Phil continue their conversation on Mike Evans' criticism of Gabe Landeskog and his underachieving this season. We pivot to the Broncos as NFL free agency kicks off in less than a week. We look at the running back market as David Montgomery was traded this week, Breece Hall was franchise tagged by the Jets, and Kenneth Walker not getting tagged by the Seahawks. We hear from Mike Klis and his thoughts on the Broncos wanting JK Dobbins back in 2026. Would Dobbins be willing to take a backseat in the Broncos running back room? Could Ben Powers be a cut or trade candidate as he heads into the last year of his contract? We react to Rockies' Paul Depodesta's comments on why Schaffer was the right hire for their manager and raising the floor of the team by bringing in veterans. We wrap up the show with DenverSports.com's Will Petersen joining the show to discuss Mike Evans' criticism of Gabe Landeskog this season.

Today, I am speaking with a rather new solo Workamper who followed her instincts, traded an apartment for an RV, and discovered a lifestyle that finally felt right for her. Shellie Schaffer caught the travel bug about 10 years ago, but it became real three years ago when she realized she was miserable living in apartments and needed a change. What started as a desire to be happier turned into a full-time RV lifestyle that she says she never wants to leave. In this episode, Shellie talks about living full time in an RV with her cat, carrying a motorcycle for day-to-day transportation, and why freedom has always been at the center of her life. With more than 200,000 miles of motorcycle travel behind her and a background in psychology and mental health, she brings a unique perspective to the road. She also shares what she is looking for next as she begins exploring Workamping opportunities, why being a campground host appeals to her, and what employers should know about the skills and mindset she brings to the table. If you are curious about solo RVing, Workamping later in life, or trusting yourself enough to make a big lifestyle shift without overthinking it, then you will enjoy this conversation with Shellie. Her story is a great reminder that sometimes you do not need years of planning or approval from others to know what is right for you. Once Shellie realized that RV living made her happy, she committed to it fully and has never looked back. Traveling with a motorcycle allows her to truly explore the places she visits rather than just do the touristy stuff weekend travelers often do. With a background in psychology and mental health, Shellie understands how to work with people, resolve conflict and stay grounded in challenging situations – all of which are traits campground employers value. Shellie also offered thoughtful advice for others considering the RV or Workamping lifestyle, especially solo travelers. From developing street smarts to understanding your personal support systems, Shellie spoke honestly about what it takes to feel safe, confident and fulfilled on the road. If you would like to connect with Shellie, ask her questions or potentially discuss Workamping opportunities, feel free to email her at shelscha43 @ yahoo.com. Our guest on this week's episode is Marc Schaffer, principal economist at Breakthrough Fuel. Sometime in the new year we will likely find out whether the huge mega-merger between two historic railroads will go through. Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern aim to join forces to create a true transcontinental railroad. But it's not without controversy. What will the effects be on our nation's supply chains? This week's guest offers some insights. Warehouses are getting smarter every day. A study released just after Thanksgiving shows that artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are no longer just experimental tools but are becoming core drivers of productivity, accuracy, and workforce evolution in the warehouse. This is according to a study from Mecalux and the MIT Intelligent Logistics Systems Lab at MIT's Center for Transportation and Logistics. This week we reported on a story about the people behind AI and other leading edge technologies. It wasn't about the software coders who write the instructions for AI and large language models and other platforms. But rather it was about the electricians and manufacturing experts who keep all this stuff running. Teen pain often wants proof, and too many families discover self-harm the hardest way—by finding the evidence. Dr. Amy sits down with returning guest Stacy Schaffer, a licensed professional counselor, to unpack non-suicidal self-injury with clarity and care. We name what NSSI is and isn't, explore why it seems to provide fast relief to hurting teens, and talk through what to do the moment a teen opens up. You'll hear how shame keeps kids silent, how calm presence invites honesty, and why a clear plan beats punishment every time.We dig into real-world guidance for parents, coaches, and teachers: how to thank a teen for their trust, offer choices for bringing caregivers into the conversation, and separate safety steps from secrecy-inducing consequences. Stacy explains the addictive loop—dopamine, relief, and reinforcement—that can build around cutting or burning, and how speaking to a teen's own values and near-future moments (prom, summer jobs, sports uniforms) often lands better than distant warnings. We also highlight the long tail of scars and how regret can surface even after the behavior stops. Most importantly, we share practical tools to bridge the urges: sensory substitutions like sour candy, ice, and specialized fidgets that create safe discomfort; 15-minute “urge surfing” to let intensity pass; and when tracking “sober days” can motivate rather than shame. We cover safety planning—locking up sharps without locking down trust—and the power of a supportive circle of adults beyond the home. Throughout, we keep the focus on curiosity over judgment and parenting the child you have in today's always-watched, always-connected world. If this resonates, subscribe, share with a friend who needs it, and leave a quick review. Mike Evans and Brandon Stokley with Mark Schlereth open the fourth hour talking about RB’s after the Broncos showed interest in Dameon Pierce and whether there are warning signs for the RB stable in Denver. The guys try to pinpoint how to fix all of the penalties the Broncos commit, with one particular player in mind. Aaron Gordon has been banged up lately but there is a young buck who is showing that there may be life after Mister Nugget. Stoke was bummed out that he wasn’t on the Manningcast but apparently, he still got a shout out. The Morning Crew cap off today’s show venting about the Warren Schaffer hire.
In this episode of Always Be Testing, I sit down with Howard Schaffer — a 25-year performance marketing leader, former CMO and VP across major wellness, fitness, and tech brands, and now the founder of HOS Performance — for a deep dive into what really holds companies back from scaling. Howard and I unpack why so many teams are still operating on shaky data foundations, from broken UTM structures to inaccurate attribution and reporting gaps, and he shares the exact diagnostic framework he uses when he steps into an organization. We talk about what every new CMO should evaluate in their first 30–60 days, how to assess channel performance without bias, and why disciplined tracking and clean measurement matter far more than adding another fancy analytics tool. We also get into AI's growing role in competitive research and creative iteration, how SEO is evolving, and why creator-led partnerships are becoming more valuable than traditional influencer deals. This conversation is full of practical insights for CMOs, performance marketers, analysts, and founders who want to understand what's slowing down their growth — and how to fix it.
Teens today live at the intersection of real mental health risks and viral misused language like gaslighting, narcissism, and DID. On this episode of The Brainy Moms podcast, Dr. Amy sat down with children's therapist Stacy Schaffer to unpack how parents can support mental health without turning every rough patch into a diagnosis. Stacy shares the story behind her new book and the core idea that guides her work: integrate tough histories into practical, present-day tools so kids feel seen, safe, and capable. We dig into the messy middle of modern childhood—where TikTok trends meet group-chat drama and where grooming, exclusion, and “subtle” cruelty often fly under the bullying radar. Stacy offers concrete steps for delaying social platforms, keeping an open pulse on online connections, and having frank, age-appropriate talks about consent, safety, and the law. We also explore why framing therapy as a gift changes everything, and how to invite teens into the process so they feel respected rather than “sent.”A big theme is language. Words like trauma, gaslighting, narcissist, and DID carry weight and meaning; when they get stretched to cover discomfort or disagreement, everyone loses clarity. Stacy walks us through what those terms actually mean, when they apply, and how to teach kids a simple 1–10 scale that builds perspective without dismissing pain. We also clarify dissociation versus dissociative identity disorder and offer scripts that keep compassion high while holding responsibility steady: “You're in charge of all your parts.”Along the way, we talk about modeling healthy conflict at home, building emotion regulation, and helping kids collect “data” from hard moments they survived. If you've wondered how to respond when your teen throws out a buzzword, how to know when it's time for counseling, or how to keep kids safer online, this conversation delivers calm, clear guidance you can use today.About Stacy SchafferStacy Schaffer is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over twenty years of experience helping children, teens, and young adults navigate emotional and behavioral challenges. In this solosode of The Energy Code, Dr. Mike unveils the most comprehensive update yet to BioLight's flagship supplement — BioBlue — and takes listeners deep inside the quantum bioenergetic thinking that shaped its redesign. What began as a methylene-blue-based mitochondrial catalyst has evolved into a next-generation longevity systemintegrating deuterium-depleted water, elevated NMN, taurine, and trace gold-silver resonance compounds. Dr. Mike breaks down the science and reasoning behind each refinement: why Litewater's 10 ppm deuterium-depleted water now forms the clean matrix for all BioBlue liquids, how NMN has been increased ten-fold (10 mg → 100 mg) to meaningfully expand NAD⁺ pools and drive biogenesis, and how taurine stabilizes mitochondrial membranes and calcium signaling for endurance and resilience. He explains the subtle yet powerful tweaks — like a 50 % increase in colloidal gold and silver and a 40 % reduction in fulvic acid — that sharpen redox coherence and enhance longevity signaling. Dr. Mike dives into: Overview of how BioBlue progressed from a simple methylene-blue solution to a full mitochondrial optimization system. Why all BioBlue liquids now utilizes Litewater for cleaner proton flow and improved ATP efficiency. Why NMN increased from 10 mg → 100 mg per dose to meaningfully raise NAD⁺ levels, drive biogenesis, and enhance DNA repair. Why the addition of Taurine – 100 mg per serving for membrane stability, calcium regulation, and long-term mitochondrial resilience. Enhanced Trace Elements – 50 % more colloidal gold & silver plus refined fulvic acid for smoother redox flow and higher photodynamic efficiency. This episode isn't just about formulation — it's about why every molecule matters in the pursuit of mitochondrial efficiency, redox stability, and long-term cellular youthfulness. Mike also previews BioLight's upcoming new website, pre-Black-Friday event, and a soon-to-launch BioBlue Lite product line for those seeking simplicity without compromise. Key Topics Covered Evolution of BioBlue — from the original methylene blue + NMN formula to a comprehensive mitochondrial optimization system. Integration of Deuterium-Depleted Water (Litewater, 10 ppm) — explanation of how lowering deuterium enhances ATP production, redox efficiency, and longevity potential. NMN Upgrade (10× Increase) — new 100 mg per serving dosage for boosting NAD⁺ levels, mitochondrial biogenesis, DNA repair, and energy metabolism. Addition of Taurine (100 mg per serving) — supports membrane integrity, calcium balance, ROS buffering, and cellular longevity signaling. Enhanced Colloidal Gold & Silver (50 % Increase) — improved redox stability, electron flow, and photodynamic synergy with methylene blue and red light. Refined Wu Jin Sun Fulvic Acid (−40 %) — optimizes redox balance and mineral transport while improving synergy between all active compounds. Comprehensive Mitochondrial Benefits — improved ATP efficiency, autophagy, and mitochondrial biogenesis for cleaner, more resilient energy production. New Product Lineup — introduction of BioBlue Lite and BioBlue Leuco Lite (simplified methylene blue + water versions) for accessible mitochondrial support. Key Quotes from Dr. Mike “Deuterium-depleted water doesn't just make the mitochondria go faster—it helps them run truer, cleaner, and more efficiently.” “We've moved BioBlue from a trace metabolic nudge to a real mitochondrial optimization protocol that supports redox cycling, biogenesis, and longevity pathways in a quantifiable way.” “Taurine turns BioBlue from a fast-acting energy compound into a cellular longevity stack—supporting repair, recycling, and resilience.” “By increasing colloidal gold and silver within their optimal bio-signal zones, BioBlue transforms from a chemical redox supplement into a biophysical energy transducer.” “Each change — from Litewater to taurine — was made to help your mitochondria run longer, cleaner, and more accurately. This is longevity through bioenergetics.” Episode Timeline 00:00 – Announcements: Pre-Black Friday + new website 04:00 – The origin of BioBlue and its evolution 10:00 – Introducing the upgraded BioBlue formula 11:00 – Why BioLight partnered with Light Water 12:00 – How deuterium slows mitochondrial ATP production 17:00 – Functional benefits of deuterium-depleted water 19:00 – 10x increase in NMN for energy and repair 27:00 – Synergy between NMN and methylene blue 30:00 – Adding taurine for stability and longevity 39:00 – Increasing colloidal gold for photonic synergy 46:00 – Boosting colloidal silver for redox protection 52:00 – Why lowering fulvic acid improves coherence 56:00 – What's next: BioBlue Light + legacy pricing offer 01:02:00 – Dr. Mike's closing thoughts on mitochondrial optimization Resources & References Deuterium Depletion and Mitochondrial Efficiency Boros, L. Akiva Schaffer's new take on THE NAKED GUN sends up both the cop-story cliches that inspired the 1988 Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker original and the modern action tropes littering the filmography of star Liam Neeson, but at heart it's less a genre parody than a spoof of nostalgia reboots like, well, this one. That meta layer is a major distinction between Schaffer's film and the original, but it's not the only one, so in between rehashing some of our favorite bits we attempt to determine where the new film's ZAZ homage ends and its specific comedic sensibility begins. Then in Connections we use the many elements these two films share — bumbling cops and femmes fatale, a blend of timely and timeless humor, guns — to further distinguish between their approaches to satire, spoofery, and slapstick. And in Your Next Picture Show, our resident Quaid offers a recommendation for Schaffer's podcast with his Lonely Island compatriots and Seth Meyers. Please share your thoughts about any and all NAKED GUNs, or anything else in the world of film, by sending an email or voice memo to comments@nextpictureshow.net, or leaving a short voicemail at (773) 234-9730. Akiva Schaffer prefers to stay behind the scenes. But that doesn't mean he's any less funny than his Lonely Island bandmates Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone. The three middle school best friends started shooting videos right out of college before landing a plush gig making digital shorts for ‘Saturday Night Live,' including hits like “Lazy Sunday,” “Dick in a Box,” “Jizz in My Pants” and many others. In this episode, Schaffer talks about their unusual path to SNL and how directing outrageous movies like ‘Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping' led him to take on a meta ‘Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers' reboot for Disney+ starring Samberg and John Mulaney—and now the huge ‘Naked Gun' reboot starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson. He also explains why he might be single handedly responsible for Netflix deciding to greenlight ‘I Think You Should Leave' with Tim Robinson. In the spring of 2006, 27-year-old Ohio State medical student Brian Shaffer walked into a popular Columbus bar called the Ugly Tuna Saloona, and was never seen again. Surveillance footage captured him entering the bar around 1:55 a.m., but he never appeared on camera leaving. No signs of a struggle. No phone activity. No trace. Nearly two decades later, Brian's disappearance remains one of the most haunting and confounding cold cases in modern true crime history. In episode 361, Jac and Lex unravel the night Brian disappeared, the theories that won't die, and the question that haunts everyone who's ever heard his story: how does someone vanish into thin air?
