(5:20) I'm not saying, “this is the only way,” this is just the best way that I've seen. (13:30) In order to see the change you have to feel it. Your body has to learn it. When something happens, there doesn't always have to be an issue with it. You can let go of the response and control it. We'll talk about it more today. Have a listen. Highlights: I was leading myself to my own grave because of some teachings that I had likely misinterpreted. (12:15) A lot of people would rather be right and miserable and perpetuate the misery, than dissipate the reactions. (19:35) I want to teach people the skills of having a choice in how they feel. We have often had people who have a single belief of who and what they are. It's not that they're wrong for that, it that they had never tried to challenge it before. People who were “superior” to them had given diagnosis and those were taken to heart. Today we'll talk about it more. Have a listen. Highlights: A lot of people we encounter had their mom, their teacher, their mentor tell them something and that's never been challenged. (13:10) Internally, I don't want to put the keys in the lock that are almost a fit, but to a perfect fit. I'd rather make them on the inside. (19:20) Medical doctors aren't always right and I think they would appreciate if we said; I don't think that's accurate and here's why. And together you could figure out a solution. (30:30) Trauma is not a thing and if me saying that is upsetting, then maybe its an invitation to set down all that. (39:15) Need help unlocking mental, emotional, and physical freedom in your life? (44:25) I started getting these waves of just feeling good to be in my body and this vibrant life inside my limbs. The main goal is to win the war within you. Not just to beat the symptoms, but the full battle that is causing tensions and stresses in your body. Today, we're going to talk about it more. Have a listen. Highlights: The body has some way of remembering how it's reacted in a situation before. (10:10) You are the hardest person you will ever coach. Because you have the same blind spots as the person that you're coaching. (17:00) We are striving for permanence in an impermanent universe. Description; “I feel happy”. Prescription; “I'm doing all of these things so I should be feeling happiness”. Don't let the prescriptions and “shoulds” in life, run over the descriptions, and the present moment. Today, we'll talk about this more. Have a listen. Highlights: In a list, you'll be given prescriptions, not what will become good, natural byproducts of your living experience. (14:30) “Where am I at, where am I headed, and what do I need to shift in order to move in that direction?” (17:00) Take a step back and think, what if everything will just naturally happen, if I just focus on what's important right now? After the 2024 Miami GP, Lando Norris gains his first win and declares his love to everybody. Now, after a grueling two hour race, he probably felt relieved and wasn't actually feeling “love”. Today, we're going to talk about this more. Have a listen. Highlights: In that moment, was he really feeling love? (10:15) Feelings of love and kindness are a direct result of the state that the body is in, in any given moment. (14:20) Like I've been saying for a long time, your thoughts and emotions are a byproduct of the body. (20:00) There is a big difference between your senses, and what you make of your senses. This one's for the women. A man's “addiction” to pornography doesn't mean that there is something wrong with you or that you need to change. It is just the way that his body has found to cope with his discomfort. We're going to talk about this more today. Have a listen. Highlights: Because the “addiction” is no longer sexual, we look at; what are they coping with? (15:50) Depression, shame, and guilt are all mechanisms that are engaged in order to solve an ongoing problem. (17:25) It's a chasing of a sensation all because, the person is unconscious of the way that they have built discomfort into their lifestyle. (25:35) Women, there is nothing wrong with you. And if the guy is wanting to change, that is evidence that he cares and that you are enough. (36:20) Need help unlocking mental, emotional, and physical freedom in your life? If you're going to get help with something, at least get good help. Ruminating on the problem won't solve it, so find someone or something that looks at the source, not the symptom. We'll talk about this more today. Have a listen. Highlights: Do you really want validation on your trauma? (5:20) If you don't want things to continue down their current path, validation will not get you to another place. (7:20) When bad help becomes the main source, it causes rumination on the symptoms, and not on the causes. (16:50) If you're going to get help, then get good help. Therapy is not really as useful as it seems. In reality, therapy gets you to just ruminate on thoughts and situations that are no longer useful to you. Instead of spending time pouting about it, learn from it and move on. Today, we're going to talk about that more. Have a listen. Highlights: When going to some form of entertainment, the emotional controls are almost willfully set aside for the enjoyment of another story. (6:05) No doubt, teenagers all over the planet have these hormonal things that show up, and have situations that they have emotions about. But it's being blown out of proportion to where everybody is being taught, everybody will have emotions that are too big for them and these tools are needed. Instead of; there might be an emotion from time to time, no big deal. (10:40) There becomes such a focus on the problem that it becomes overwhelming and it can seem like there's no hope. Highlights: You're thinking of this creeping up debt as a problem, when all that's happened in the past is that a new solution to the problem has been found. Biology, evolution, science, and religions are all great and can be useful tools in life. But they shouldn't interfere with your experience. We live in the present, the now. Not 100, not 500, not 5000 years ago. Today we're going to talk about this more. Have a listen. Highlights: There isn't a bodiless it out there, like god, that is saying; “this is the case and you must accept it”. But because it's in a book, people accept it. (9:05) Just because you can connect all the dot's on the paper, doesn't mean that you actually understand the paper. (17:20) It's not that science is bad. But in the end, it's not needed to live a powerful life. The effort to try and understand the distant past, has prevented people from making use of the present, in order to have a powerful experience in your life. FAIRO is an acronym for “false ah-ha's impersonating real ones”. Meaning that when an ah-ha moment comes up, no time is wasted in assuming it is the answer and not just an observation. Today we're going to talk about this more. Have a listen. Highlights: There's danger in assuming that an ah-ha moment is the truth. (7:55) The ah-ha moment is the moment when you've conceptualized the world into an idea. (13:30) Assessing someone on a first impression isn't the issue. Clinging to the impression is. Today we're going to do a little bit of a play by play of a book that I recently read. But as we talk, find what's useful, and keep it. then toss the rest out. Have a listen. Highlights: There are humans so busy suffering and chasing power, money, prestige and all the other things that they end up killing each other for it. (3:05) I was making all kinds of claims, but I found a lot of frustration in that that I wasn't willing to admit. When something wasn't working I'd turn it on, and judge myself more poorly because what I assumed was the truth wasn't. (7:15) Continue to look and hear with your eyes and ears, find what's valuable and toss the rest. (35:15) If the body is in a negative state then negative thoughts will emerge. Everyday bliss. Just being in a space where you can enjoy running your body, from just being alive. Not having to operate from a place of constant tension. We're going to talk about that more today. Have a listen. Highlights: When talking about a life, it isn't the big things that I'm talking about. It's how do you open the car door, cut food, talk to your spouse, it's all the little things. (8:10) If the nerve is already agitated to the brink of firing, then the tiniest little thing will set it off. (10:45) People don't want control over everything, they want life to happen in a beautiful way for them, no matter what's going on. (25:25) The inner party, is louder than the outer chaos. Proprioception can be often thought of how you perceive your physical situation, but it goes a lot deeper than that. It is how you perceive yourself in any situation. Proprioception is how you catch yourself in the act of living. We're going to talk about this in depth today. Have a listen. Highlights: The prediction is made first, and only if the prediction is wrong, is more energy spent trying to figure out what's going on. (6:00) We end up limiting our future by never challenging the predictions of the past. (11:20) The physicality of it is an attempt to sideline all of the thinking and doomsday-ing that's happening inside. (21:45) If a reaction to something was less than it was before, and if it stays that way over the course of a day or two, the brain is now making different guesses about the idea that has been adopted. AF 243 - Affirmations & Disbelief Sounding like opposite ends of a spectrum, affirmations and disbelief are not so different. In fact, affirmations come for the disbelief in yourself and the lack of surety. Today we'll talk about this more. Have a listen. Highlights: If you don't go through pain, then you don't gain pain. (3:45) People are trying to find a trauma to blame their problems on, and they feel worse because they're “just that messed up”. (8:35) I can say that I feel like there's something missed in the beauty of life, in its natural form. Although Integrity and honesty may seem very similar, there are a few key differences that make a whole lot of change. Today, we'll talk about that more. Have a listen. Highlights: …under the assumption that in the next 20 years of life, an opinion would and should never change. (5:40) If I could connect to people on their goodness, then positive things would come out of it. But I thought goodness meant that people thought and operated the same way I do. (14:55) At different times in the world, goodness would have been defined differently. (18:00) Only when the perception change, does the reaction change. So Bob is out of town, and Lee decided to do a classic rewind of an important podcast. With one of two amazing episodes; this is from September 1, 2021, called The Body-Based Approach to Happiness, Health, and Well-being. In our modern society, we put too much emphasis on our minds, thoughts, and feelings. The problem with this is your mind is just a fraction of your total experience of life. In fact, your whole body is a brain. And I can prove it. Pinch your finger right now and you'll experience pain signals shooting up to your brain. Yet, when it comes to emotional baggage, trauma, addictions, and other mental ailments, we forget about the body and hyperfocus on the mind. If you want to permanently free yourself from these mental diseases, you have to first start in your body. Ancient cultures from all over the world knew how to do this. But we forgot how to do it in our modern world. In this episode, I'm revealing how a body-based approach to happiness, health, and well-being is more effective than any therapist could hope to be. Listen now. Show highlights include: The strange way laws prevent therapists from helping you as much as they could (4:09) Why therapy and counseling can only help a fraction of your mental health problems (even if it feels like they're working) (14:33) How chanting mantras can actually make your anxiety, depression, and even schizophrenia subside (17:11) Why using your body is the single best way to eliminate all your mental and emotional baggage forever (19:32) How to teach your body freedom so you can erase mental health problems, addictions, and even chronic pain from your life (28:38) Need help unlocking mental, emotional, and physical freedom in your life? Comas aren't always, lights out and unconscious for a long time. Sometimes it's just the lack of energy from overstimulation. And in today's world, there's a lot of it. Today we'll talk about it more. Have a listen. Highlights: Everything you see is changing the tension patterns in your body, and that's going to change your perspective of things. (8:00) When you prime your system with; something's gone wrong and we have to find the mystery, you unconsciously live your life that way. What entertains you, trains you. (13:05) When you do something unconsciously, it seems like you don't experience it. (20:35) Instead of wondering why there's little energy to do things, maybe, just maybe, It's being used to process everything you see. The breath has been studied many times over for years. All the little tips and tricks can help understand the breath. But mastering it comes for paying attention to how it feels to you. Today, we'll talk about the breath. Have a listen. Highlights: People tend to try to master breathing by only thinking about breathing in certain regards or certain breathing practices instead of understanding the nature and depth of what breath really is. (6:30) The best place to start, in terms of mastering the breath, is to pay attention to it. How are you breathing during the day? (8:40) How are you breathing? And when you consciously slow it down, what changes? (14:25) You're never going to see the link in how you're breathing and what you're doing and how you're feeling, until you pay attention. Not everything is purely psychological. The biology of a person has a lot to do with their emotions, their thoughts and their moods. So, connection the biology to the psychology can be a key experience to letting go of trauma and addiction. Highlights: I'm taking my years and years of experience understanding how the mind and body are intertwined, to bring the mind and the body together too un-stitch all of the quilted patterns of misery that people have stitched to themselves over the course of their lives. (12:50) There's nothing wrong with allowing breath work to happen, but why not let it happen on purpose? Why not be deliberate with how you use the breath? (14:05) I hold people in this spot, teetering on the edge of play and challenge and discomfort, back and forth to where they can't keep holding on to their old reasons to suffer. And somewhere in the middle of it, the magic happens. (27:05) The key understanding is that people's thoughts and feelings come from their biology. Recovery shouldn't take forever. There's no reason for you to be an addict, or a recovering addict, for a majority of your life. Today we're gonna talk about that a little more. Have a listen. Highlights: If you are not able to live a life free of that thing, and happy, and more capable than you were before, then it doesn't deserve the title of a rehab center. (4:00) I've often compared it to being chased by a rabid dog; you always have to stay one step ahead and you can't stop. (6:55) If it takes 30 years to overcome something that can happen in days, weeks, or months, then whoever's running that program, doesn't have a clue about it. Knowing that there are more than the 5 senses you were taught throughout your childhood, let's talk about another one. Today we're going to talk about the sense of self. Have a listen. Highlights: Humans use a sense of self as a way to navigate the world of society and as a way of motivating ourselves. (9:00) We talk about ourselves as if that's who we are all the time, but really, that's something that is altered. (13:25) That self is whatever I've identified as me. It has to do with experiences I've collected, or had powerful emotional responses to, or the things that have felt “important”. (18:45) This search for who you are, is what a lot of people are on. We live in such an immense world. The belief that humans are a superior race and are built to rule all is not true just because we've invaded everything. Today we'll talk more about what's going on in not our world, and what we're missing. Have a listen. Highlights: We are so dependent on our eyes, We are so dependent on our eyes because they are the most delicate of our senses. (4:00) Across the board, humans aren't really doing much difference, except in terms of quality. (13:20) There is something that we're calling life that is massively varied, all of which is experiencing itself in a variety of ways that we humans can't even understand and yet we have the hubris to believe that we are the reason for all of it and that we are more important and better than the rest of it when there's so many places where we fall short and so many things we do not see. (15:30) There's so much that we don't understand about reality, so much that we are missing because our senses are set up to help our species survive the way that this species does. Today, we're going to think about what's really going on when you tell somebody that your day was good, or when you feel sad. Although it might seem like just a simple feeling, there's more to it than that. Have a listen. Highlights: They were creating stories about how they were marred when in reality they weren't, and that goes back to, what are we creating with our own thoughts. (11:50) These experiences are built out of a brain that's just pulling information from the body that it happens to be sitting in. (14:25) It's a lot easier to live in a world where you already know what's going on. (35:25) Emotions are not a reflection reality at all, it is your brain's best guess about how it should respond to the situation. Lee had the question; what is a human? A big bundle of nerves and tissue or some higher and wiser being on this planet? Today we'll talk more about it. Have a listen. Highlights: From the very beginning, human cells are bejng supported by bacteria. (14:15) People are too busy saying we are meant to dominate nature, when really, we are at the mercy of nature the entire time.k (14:45) A human is never existent without the environment it's in. (18:20) If we hold our body in such a way that doesn't make viruses and bacteria the enemy, what could be possible? (30:00) Human is a category, but what does it mean to be you? Today we're talking a little about an experience we had with the human nervous system. Maybe we'll get on somebody's nerves a little, maybe not. Have a listen. Highlights: This whole collection of nerves is providing your human experience. (4:15) Even as he's dead, he treats him with the utmost respect. (13:00) The identification of one's self with the body, on one level, creates a possibility for experience, but on another level, it creates a trap inside that experience. (29:30) The whole nervous system was almost mapped out like a tree. (31:30) Need help unlocking mental, emotional, and physical freedom in your life? With all the clamoring voices declaring the latest health fads and superfoods, so many of which seem to be in contradiction to each other, how is one to know what to do? Do we follow the simple advice of Michael Pollan (Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.)? Or do we micro measure every morsel for optimum productivity and neurological function? Lots to discuss, and, as always, with an eye to making things simpler. Have a listen. Highlights: Nowadays you can walk into almost anywhere and see the teenagers have all the signs of being youthful, but there's something off with their physique. (5:50) There are a lot of experts today that claim to know what health is. But when I step back and look at it, it just seems to be that what we're claiming health is, is really distorted. (9:25) People define freedom as the ability to do whatever you want to do, but I've suggested the following definition; that freedom is the ability to not do what you don't want to do. (21:29) It doesn't have so much to do with your genetics, but the way you learned to eat. So if you change the way you eat, you can actually change what the outcomes are. With the crazy season upon us, don't let that be something to take the happiness away. So many people feel they have more responsibility and expectations on them because of the chaos of holidays. Today we'll talk about that more. Have a listen. Highlights: Everybody has expectations for a holiday when they don't have expectations for an average Tuesday. (2:50) With traditions, is this the kind of experience that you want to have, or are you just putting yourself on autopilot and trying to knuckle through the holiday? (8:25) It's almost like saying, “take a holiday from the holiday”. (27:30) The holidays are a chance for everyone to catch their breath, not just one person. I periodically get people asking me if we do couples' counseling. While we have worked with a number of couples, it's usually one at a time. So I decided to bring on a guest whose approach to bringing what she calls "everyday eroticism" into a marriage that still has to wash the dishes and get the kids off to school, might just be what turns the tides for you. Alexandra Stockwell, MD, is an author, physician, and personal coach turned relationship guide and is here to share her wisdom. Have a listen. Highlights: Understanding gives you enough framework to feel safe to have different experiences. (6:55) People don't honor the “I just knew” piece enough. It's a feeling in your system, it's not an intellectual problem with a person, it's the only thing your body could make sense of. (8:45) You have no chance of creating what you want if you don't know what you want. (23:00) I think the way to be human is to eliminate the taboo as much as we can and be integrated with all the elements that we get to express in a marriage. Fasting isn't the hungry problem that I always thought it was growing up. Although the hunger may set in at some point, it isn't a "no pain, no gain" situation. Today, we'll talk about that more. Have a listen. Highlights: Even though I felt great, there was nothing to show a breakthrough. (11:30) What if fasting is a gift to my body to finally allow it to go through its full cycle? (14:40) Everybody's talking about a painful death, but your body is designed to make that not happen, if at all possible. (17:50) If you give somebody a promise of something that they haven't experienced, they'll make believe what those words mean without realizing that those words connect to something already in their experience. What is faith? Inside of all the confusing definitions, descriptions and depictions, let's look at faith as focus. Let's see faith as where you put your attention. Today, we'll talk about that a little more. Have a listen Highlights: People ask where is god in this and the response is where do you want him to be in this? Let him be everywhere. Why does he need to be in one little pocket. (2:00) If your focus shifts, that doesn't mean you lack faith, it just means that you're interested in something else and your focus has shifted. (10:20) My focus was, I want to live a full life. The life that I feel in my bones that I came here to live. And if I put my focus there, unwavering, what might happen? (15:00) If you don't train your brain to focus on the things that matter to you and that build life and vitality, then how is your body going to know to do that on autopilot? Throughout the years, the biggest ingredient I've found that determines whether a person finds freedom or not is what I'll call "commitment". Not commitment in the sense of making promises, but a drive to "make this work". That drive is what led me to my own freedom. It's not the only ingredient, but definitely one of the biggest players. So let's look at it. Could it possibly be that the main reason we fail is because we are more committed to our story, our comforts, our victimhood, our traumas, our triggers, our diagnoses, and our pains than we are to creating a life of freedom? Could that be the real obstacle? Have a listen. Highlights: I just admit that I cannot do for somebody, what only they can do for themselves. (10:10) To put MD after your name, makes people automatically assume that you're an expert on the subject that you're teaching. Even if that's not the case. (14:00) The experience we're giving is also transmitting how to live a good life from your previous one. (32:40) Are you willing to embrace that your feelings and thoughts could have been wrong because you're finally more committed to letting go of the pain, than being right? Here comes the second half of Amber's inside look at what really happens inside a good rehab center. This time, we'll also discuss what else might help. Highlights: Your life was built to be you. A unique expression of life on this planet that has never been here before and never will be again. (4:00) Most people struggle not because they're stupid and don't understand something, but because the rest of their body hasn't gotten it yet. (19:30) When you're taking a medication, you're inserting chemistry into your body to force that chemistry into a different space. (20:30) The people that are the lowest on the totem pole, they start going to other places for help. It's drinks and drugs and pornography and when they're beaten down from that, they'll find somebody else who will lift them up and in those places they're being molded until they almost form a different breed of human. Amber joins us today for an insider's look at what really goes on at a rehab center. From the schedule, to the therapy, to the classes, there's lots to talk about, including why the success rates are as low as they are across the board and what can be done to turn that around. Have a listen. Highlights: So alcohol became an escape, and at a certain point it became a catastrophe. (6:40) Why is it called recreational therapy, why not just play? (17:25) The thing I'll say is that therapy got me through. It didn't get me over my troubles, but it got me through. (31:10) Everything that you encounter in your life is going to change the function and neurology and synaptic patterns and everything else going on inside you. Pinning that on addiction only is a bit dishonest. (39:35) I'm not worried about sobriety. Only addicts are worried about sobriety. I'm a human being. Over the time that I have been building and running my business, there have been a good number of arguments made against me and why anything I do won't work. So, today we'll just run over a few of them. Have a listen. Highlights: Therapists consider it unethical to get peoples hopes up and say that it's possible to get over depression and anxiety without medication. (7:25) People argue that I'm not a licensed therapist and I say, I know. Thats why I can do what I do. (10:10) Doctors are too busy labeling what's happening instead of seeing what's there. (29:35) There's things that we can do with stuff that we can see, taste, touch and smell. There's nothing we can do with a theory. As soon as you believe that theory is real, then it's a fight against a phantom. (31:20) Need help unlocking mental, emotional, and physical freedom in your life? Today lets talk about your bag of tricks. All these little tips and tricks that are available at anytime because they come from you. Go ahead, have a listen. Highlights: When people take bits and pieces from other material, sometimes they're cobbling all the little pieces together and in the end they don't get to enjoy that it's not just a puzzle, but a picture also. (4:00) When you're in the here and now, you do not experience anxiety. Anxiety is a future oriented thing. (7:10) Being so focused on doing something right means not just doing the thing. Doing something right is not doing the thing. (11:50) Just by turning a conclusion (an ending) into a beginning (a quest or a question) a whole new world of inquiries opens up. In spirit of upcoming Halloween, Lee is playing devil's advocate with some common questions that we get in mind. Have a listen. Highlights: It's not uncommon for a human being to have assumed that because another person uses a word that their familiar with, that therefore they know everything about that word and subject and can pronounce their opinion on it. (3:15) Assuming that I have to understand your struggles in order for you to let them go is such a big misconception. (10:45) I don't deny what happened in my life, but I don't suffer it. (20:25) Diagnoses are just a snapshot in time of how you are doing at the moment. (26:10) Don't let good experiences be a mountain top experience, let it be the base line. Today, Lee decides to air his opinions about The Freedom Specialist — "You were operating like a non-profit without any of the benefits of being a non-profit." It's what led us to actually create Built for Freedom as a non-profit to be able to offer help and support to people who aren't in a position to afford that on their own. If you'd like to join us in offering scholarships for those in need, you can donate here. Highlights: I didn't realize that I knew something valuable, and when someone pointed it out in a pointed fashion, I went for it. (13:20) These are people that are trying to learn self-defense in order to protect themselves, but I'm teaching it in a way that you cease to become a target in the first place. (14:15) Freedom can spread like a virus. A freedom virus. (23:20) We're not trying to change the medical industry or the psychology industry. This is something totally different. (31:10) This basically eliminates the notion of problems by teaching people how to live so powerfully that what they used to call problems, evaporate on their own because their entire life is just blossoming. School is one example of a social institution where some people thrive and others tank. But what if that has more to do with the way it's set up than whether some students lack the ability to learn. This was Kathy Kolbe's connundrum. Dyslexic, dysgraphic, riddled with ADHD, and a female in the mid-twentieth century is not exactly a winning formula for success. But she was determined to scientifically prove equality. What she produced has been a tremendous asset in helping our clients learn how to succeed at healing, recovery, and happiness in a way that matches their own strengths (instead of being forced to always do things the way the teacher says). It has freed them to finally be and honor themselves just as they are. Today well talk about that a little more. Have a listen. Highlights: There's a lot of people listening that don't realize that when they think there's a deficit in them, they've really just been asked to operate differently than their own strengths. (11:10) Being burned out, hopeless, stressed, and depressed; how much of that is just you trying to be someone that you're not? (12:00) It gave perspective on the way I operate and It gave permission to be me. (27:55) This is not an excuse to cop out on what you aren't as familiar with, but maybe that there are other ways to do it.(29:10) Your perception of the world, your instinctive reaction to the world, is the place where freedom can be put on autopilot. And that is markedly different than Kathy's conation. (34:45) Need help unlocking mental, emotional, and physical freedom in your life? Are you really what you eat? Most of the research seems to point that direction. At least we can say that what you put in your body has an enormous effect on how you experience your life. Meet Glucose, that wonderful saccharine molecule that has a tendency to break down arterial walls and pump the pancreas for all of its insulin. It's the bad guy in so many diets. Yet when eaten after other foods, those foods often nullify the blood glucose spikes that are the hallmark of diabetes. Simply the order the food is eaten changes that. And that's just one way to play nicely with the bad guy so Mr. Glucose doesn't bully your innards as much. Today we'll talk about this more. Have a listen. Highlights: She's very careful to mention that you are the scientist of your own life. If it doesn't work, change it up. (6:20) When handling one part of the human body well, it cascades to other things. When handling two parts well, it seems to give exponential help to the body. (7:40) Making the argument that you get all these antioxidants from a big spoon of honey is not going to work when they can all be gained in a blueberry. (:) It was all sugar. What if we could look at a diagnoses not as limitations but as possibilities like many cultures have done over the millennia? People with multiple personalities have the ability to split their emotions and other changes in the body. Yes, I said an ability. Instead of thinking on diagnosis as a disorder. Maybe we can think of it as a strength. We'll explore more of this today. Have a listen. Highlights: The difference between somebody with multiple personality disorder, and a normal person, is that the former's personalities don't talk to each other. (7:15) We had a client who claimed to have OCD. So we did a cognitive test on them and they were high in facts and structure. So what if it's not a disorder, but instead a strength? (12:05) Back then the answer was to cast out people with multiple personalities. To put them through some kind of experience that maybe un-fractured the mind a little. (22:20) A person with different personalities, has many different personas and masks. The fact that they can take them off at will is amazing (24:55) Need help unlocking mental, emotional, and physical freedom in your life? As my dad battles his cancer, his doctors are prescribing him with more and more pain meds. But as they give him the substances to shut off his pain signals, they aren't even questioning whether or not this is adding to the massive bowel obstruction seen on his CT scan. Nor are they even considering any option that is not a drug to alleviate his pain Yet I show up and give him simple things to do to ramp up his own internal pain killers. These are things "pain doctors" should know, but instead they give me a quizzical look like I'm an alien. All because they aren't questioning whether or not the method they're used to is the only or even best way So today we'll talk about the possibility that comes from being willing to question. Have a listen. Highlights: There's lots of places where people just swallow the information instead of questioning. (8:30) None of them have ever experienced it. And that led to the question, “Why am I listening to them if their answers will only ever keep me on the roller coaster?" (12:25) What we're dealing with is your biology. What we're dealing with is the comfort of your system, and how your mind makes sense of that. (13:50) Doctors are trained to never suggest that they don't know what's going on. (30:45) It was a really hard thing for this man to even question his own practice. (34:40) Need help unlocking mental, emotional, and physical freedom in your life? Let's get real about what it feels like when emotions and behaviors take over. When that happens, what do you do? Today we'll also talk about questioning things. Not necessarily everything, but all the things that, when questioned, add up to a lot more freedom. Have a listen. Highlights: Question everything. If it's helpful and useful to you, then question it. (14:00) In any conflict, there's ten fights and nine of them are going on inside yourself. (21:25) If there's somebody that's saying “I've had a worse life”, I won't deny that. But what do you want to do now? (26:00) In the moment that “I don't know if I can let this go” is said, then nothing is being let go. But once it is questioned, then it has already been let go. Lee brought up the question “is angustia sin?” Angustia is the constriction brought by chemicals in the body from their experiences. Sin is something offencive against moral law. So when you experience something that is against your own morals and your own laws and you feel that disappointment, or that constriction, you feel angustia. Today we'll explore that more. Have a listen. Highlights: The more experience and interaction there is with certain concepts, the more the brain can fine tune its understanding of the world. (26:30) When sin enters into a being, the PH levels change and they cause changes in the body that are “leading toward death”. (27:10) When you get down to the bottom, a person experiences their sin in angustia. When the life is being squeezed out of their body by themselves. (39:15) If karma is taken as “what goes around comes around”, and somebody does good in order to get good in return, but they don't get that good, they'll experience disappointment. Which is angustia, which is sin. (39:40) The idea that life is a byproduct is a great way to measure whether or not what you are doing is in harmony with the life that you are. As we get older and spend more time on this planet, we often create and experience what might be dubbed turmoils and trauma. But these aren't always bad. These biologically intense experiences often create tensions, emotional patterns, and behaviors. As a result, we unwittingly change our instinctive reaction to life. But this doesn't always have to be an accident. Consciously creating those kinds of experiences while also deliberately redirecting the response in the body generated what might be dubbed "positive trauma", or what one author and researcher calls transformation through turmoil. Today we'll talk more about this. Have a listen. Highlights: If trauma is defined as a seed idea at a time during physical or biological intensity, then there's no need to call it good or bad. (8:45) “Do you know the type of intensity and care that has an intention that is good for you?” (15:30) Being grateful for not just the results, but the process of trauma as well, was refreshing. (17:25) There are ways to court this conscious discomfort. (29:00) Oftentimes, the way out is in. In resisting discomfort, we are keeping it around. As humans, we inevitably create tension patterns in our body from experiences we've had and the way we've lived. Those tension patterns can show up in all sorts of situations, from the way we talk, all the way down to the way we walk. Using new and different movement to mess with those tensions and put a “disturbance in the force” is a ridiculously simple method that can free us from these tensions. Those movements also have the added benefit of revealing all the other patterns we've created. We'll explore this a little more today. Have a listen. Highlights: Any lever in the body will effect something, so let's pull the practical ones. (11:40) It's impossible to lie and hide what's on the inside. It's like whack-a-mole, it'll just pop out another hole. (13:20) On the second day of retreats we have the guys move in various ways to get rid of their physically rigid form, and that will translate to their mentally rigid form. (16:20) Start breathing before the movement, keep breathing throughout the movement, and continue breathing after so that the breath becomes an envelope. (19:45) Hard work is not a virtue. It may be required from time to time, but it's not a virtue. It's taxing on the body, and the body doesn't want it. (23:30) When the movement can be something that is smooth and powerful, there's more power with less effort, and your body doesn't suffer the consequences. We all know that feeling when you're watching a movie and you feel the stress and the tension just like the character on the screen. This is your body creating a tension pattern around something that you subconsciously enjoy. There are many things people do to control these states — like chants or meditations — but not all of these are beneficial. None are better or worse than others, but they aren't always everything they are cracked up to be, despite the propaganda. Today we'll explore some things to watch out for. Have a listen. Highlights: Every human life seems to have a different expression of human-ness (2:00) Whatever activity you engage with, however good or bad, it is conditioning your mind and your body to function in a certain way. (7:40) You didn't break your brain, you just taught your body an uncontrolled skill (9:40) If you are training and then the army invades, and you're exhausted, then your training didn't serve you well. (12:05) Do you want an employee that sits down for their lunch break and wakes up 13 days later? You're going to be functional in society when you're in these ecstatic meditative states. (15:35) Meditation is not designed to cope with life. It's a place where something very, very deep within a person can open up in really profound ways and you can grasp the nature of your own existence. You know that feeling when you want to ask for something but you don't want to seem weak or helpless? Or when you feel guilty because somebody else didn't communicate clearly and you “let them down”? These are the times when we, as adults, forget that we can actually ask for things. We spend all out time telling our kids this, and yet often don't do it ourselves. It might surprise you how freeing it is to ask for things — to "use our words" — instead expending all that energy in the constant chess game of manipulating other humans, holding expectations, and then hoping people read your mind and do what you want. Just ask. Here's more on that. Have a listen. Highlights: Alive and Free go hand in hand. The more life you have flowing through your body, the more alive you will feel and the more free you will feel, regardless of your circumstances. (1:50) We set up this expectation that if somebody really loves me then I shouldn't have to communicate what I want from them. (6:45) I'm too lazy to care enough about the other person to communicate effectively with them and then I want to blame them for lack of communication. (14:40) You don't actually love people. You love the idea of them, and when they don't measure up to your idea you get upset about it. (17:00) There is some courage in putting yourself out there and appearing vulnerable (8:50) When you are honest, you have the most power in any room. Everybody else is busy trying to manipulate other people into believing them. (20:35) Need help unlocking mental, emotional, and physical freedom in your life?
