April 2, 2025 - In response to a campaign by construction unions and Democratic state lawmakers to lower the threshold for imposing lucrative wage and benefit requirements on projects receiving public funds, business interests are urging legislative leaders to preserve the status quo. My tone changes when I talk about professional doctorates because many institutions are designed to extract a lot of value from you while providing little in return. It's not just about getting a degree—it's about ensuring that what you're paying for actually adds value to your life. Some programs are legitimate and well-established, but many prey on people's optimistic beliefs and desperation. Before committing, step back and ask: Do I really need this? Is there a less expensive way to reach my goal? Be practical, analyze the costs and benefits, and don't fall for marketing tactics that make you feel like you have no other choice. A degree should leave you in a better position than when you started—not just financially, but in terms of opportunities and personal growth. The key is making sure you're doing it for the right reasons, not just because it feels like the next step.
Not only has the scandal over Trump officials discussing military plans in a group chat on an insecure commercial platform made the Trump administration look like fools to Americans paying attention, but overseas allies are drawing conclusions about the risk of sharing intelligence with America when its top officials are so careless with sensitive data. The Money Wise guys return this week to analyze another rough stretch for the markets, with the Dow falling 1,114 points (3.1%), the S&P 500 losing 131 points (2.3%), and the NASDAQ dropping 442 points (2.4%). Year-to-date, the numbers continue to slide, with the Dow now down 2.5%, the S&P 500 down 4.1%, and the NASDAQ sinking 8.1%. The discussion opens with a thought-provoking quote from a JP Morgan analyst, emphasizing that while politics may dominate headlines, the stock market operates independently—driven by earnings, growth, liquidity, and investor confidence. Despite market consensus initially expecting a balance between inflationary and pro-growth policies, investors appear wary of the Trump administration's aggressive stance in its first 50 days, particularly on trade and tariffs. The conversation then pivots to Trump's long-held views on trade, dating back to interviews from the 1980s, and how his current policies reflect a long-standing belief that the U.S. has been taken advantage of by its trading partners. While tariffs and trade battles may cause short-term economic pain and potentially slow growth, the team notes that the odds of a full recession remain below 50%. Additionally, they point out that the Federal Reserve has tools at its disposal—such as pausing quantitative tightening or cutting interest rates—to offset economic pressure if needed. The Money Wise guys speculate that Trump's aggressive trade stance might also serve as a strategic push to force the Fed's hand on rate cuts, especially as inflation pressures tied to housing remain a key concern. With producer and consumer price numbers improving, the message was clear: investors may need to endure short-term volatility for the potential of longer-term market strength. A Wary Market The team discusses how the market remains wary of Trump's aggressive trade policies, particularly tariffs on key trading partners, which have fueled volatility and investor uncertainty. While some fear these measures could slow economic growth, others see them as necessary to correct trade imbalances. They also note how negative media coverage and escalating tensions have amplified fear-driven selloffs, leading to market corrections that don't always align with economic fundamentals. The key takeaway? Investors should stay focused on long-term strategies rather than reacting emotionally to short-term fluctuations. In the second hour, the Money Wise guys share The Best Investment Advice Ever . You don't want to miss the details! Tune in for the full discussion on your favorite podcast provider or at davidsoncap.com, where you can also learn more about the Money Wise guys or take advantage of a portfolio review and analysis with Davidson Capital Management.

Host Nikki DaVaughn interviews Dayvid Figler, co-host of City Cast Las Vegas, who recently co-reported a story exposing the tunnel's troubles in Nevada. I am hesitant to call many of the theories about how the California wildfires started "conspiracies" because as our own government has show us, many of those conspiracies all turned out to be true. But a few of the viral theories need to be explored. Is This a terrorist attack? Why were Oregon Fire Trucks delayed for a CA State Inspection? Yes, this happened. Why did so many trees survive the fires when the homes and buildings burned? There are other more wild theories that we can't explain, but seem to far fetched for me to believe. The 1st of August 1798 saw the British fleet sailing towards Alexandria into a land of classical history and mythology, the sun setting like blood over the River Nile and French flags flying over the city. The scene could not be more perfectly suited to the cataclysmic battle that would soon take place there, in which Horatio Nelson would guild his legend forever. Charged with leading a squadron of fourteen ships into the Mediterranean to find Napoleon Bonaparte and his vast fleet, Nelson had chased him all the way to Alexandria which the French had seized along with the rest of Egypt. At last, lookouts spot the masts of Napoleon's ships - a moment of near transcendent excitement for Nelson and the men of his fleet. At last, it seemed, the moment had come for their battle of total annihilation in all its gore and glory. Wary of this, the French commanders urged Bonaparte to withdraw, but in his hubris the French general refused. So it was that the greatest naval battle of the 18th century began, to the thunder of cannons, screaming sailors, and the chaos of gun smoke, soot, splinters and blood…. Join Dominic and Tom as they describe one of the most decisive and dramatic moments of both naval history and Horatio Nelson's life: the Battle of the Nile. _______ Twitter: @TheRestHistory @holland_tom @dcsandbrook Producer: Theo Young-Smith Assistant Producer: Tabby Syrett Executive Producers: Jack Davenport + Tony Pastor Learn more about your ad choices.
