For us real estate professionals, so much of our life is organized into routines. The busyness of our lives can cause us to not want to move, which actually creates more stress in our lives. However, in being mindful of our bodies wants and needs and taking steps to provide our bodies with what they need, we are actually bringing more connectedness and presence to our workplace and the people around us. If you were looking at your diet, it's really helpful just to write down what you're eating. When you're looking at your pain, it's really helpful to try to name it, number it, and get some clarity on, is it getting better or worse?" - Lucas Rockwood "This is really the only way, and it's really challenging because it's, we, we want to outsource it. As humans, we inevitably create tension patterns in our body from experiences we've had and the way we've lived. Those tension patterns can show up in all sorts of situations, from the way we talk, all the way down to the way we walk. Using new and different movement to mess with those tensions and put a “disturbance in the force” is a ridiculously simple method that can free us from these tensions. Those movements also have the added benefit of revealing all the other patterns we've created. We'll explore this a little more today. Have a listen. Highlights: Any lever in the body will effect something, so let's pull the practical ones. (11:40) It's impossible to lie and hide what's on the inside. It's like whack-a-mole, it'll just pop out another hole. (13:20) On the second day of retreats we have the guys move in various ways to get rid of their physically rigid form, and that will translate to their mentally rigid form. (16:20) Start breathing before the movement, keep breathing throughout the movement, and continue breathing after so that the breath becomes an envelope. (19:45) Hard work is not a virtue. It may be required from time to time, but it's not a virtue. It's taxing on the body, and the body doesn't want it. (23:30) When the movement can be something that is smooth and powerful, there's more power with less effort, and your body doesn't suffer the consequences. How have you looked at movement and exercise in the past? For many, it can be experienced as an awful-tasting medicine with terrible side effects when attempted in the past. For many of you living with fibromyalgia, this has left you frustrated. Learn this week from Rose's personal experience of putting her fibromyalgia into recovery and working with many clients to help them do the same using movement optimally. Rose's story is one of several of those living with fibromyalgia just shared in the new documentary, Invisible the Film. Her story is unique because she was able to recover and continue to stay recovered from fibromyalgia. I hope that hers is a story of hope that will inspire many. At the same time, I recognize that it might be triggering to others who have never recovered and are living or have lived many years with severe symptoms. Rose also has a year-long program called Zero to Hero to help those with fibromyalgia use movement to live better with fibromyalgia.Dr. Lenz is an internist, pediatrician, lifestyle medicine physician, and clinical lipidologist interested in helping those with fibromyalgia and related problems go beyond just learning to live with it and even reverse fibromyalgia. He is also the author of the book "Conquering Your Fibromyalgia: Real Answers and Real Solutions for Real Pain. " It is also available on audiobook with Dr. Lenz as the narrator. If you have questions or topics you would like to have discussed on a future podcast, email Dr. Lenz at doctormichaellenz@gmail.com. You can also share a recording of your question. In this week's episode, we are starting a three-part series about arguably one of the single most powerful treatments for fibromyalgia. It is more powerful than common medications, such as duloxetine, cyclobenzaprine, and amitriptyline. We will discuss the powerful role movement played in treating fibromyalgia in Rose Harwood. She was told at age 14 that she had fibromyalgia and that she should prepare for a life where she had to restrict her expectations of what she would be able to do in her life. She was told that she would have to greatly limit her most treasured activities, including keeping active and becoming an actor. Despite being told this, Rose discovered what made her feel better and what made her feel worse and, on her own, discovered how she could live better and went on to put fibromyalgia into remission despite being diagnosed at a time when relatively little was known, and treatments were limited. Rose's story is one of several of those living with fibromyalgia just shared in the new documentary, Invisible the Film. Her story is unique because she was able to recover and continue to stay recovered from fibromyalgia. I hope that hers is a story of hope that will inspire many. We live most of our days in our minds. Thinking, analyzing, trying to do all the things we're supposed to do as adults in the world... ... and sometimes forget how to BE in OUR BODY. Movement can be a way to get there. Not all types of movements are embodiment practices but movements that help you move from your mind into your body can be exactly the medicine you were looking for to bring your eating more in alignment with who you truly are and the woman you want to become more of. This is what we talk about this week: movement as medicine for emotional eating. Because the more embodied you are, the more natural it becomes to eat in a way that feels good for your body as it is today. Enjoy the listen and remember to make this moment nourishing by grabbing a cup of tea or kombucha or anything else that feels nourishing to you in this moment! With much love, Aglaée p.s. Is exercise what makes us lose weight? How can we balance it with our eating habits so we can be healthy? Being healthy also means losing weight, and if necessary, having good mental health. In this episode, Dr. Tinka Barnes teaches us how we can use exercise to improve our health properly even during the COVID-19 pandemic and how we can use movement as medicine. Dr. Barnes is a board-certified Family Medicine physician who relishes working in the underserved community. She is passionate about educating her patients on how to live a healthier life through nutrition and movement as medicine. "I don't think that we as a population focus so much on our physical activity can really help us from a mental health standpoint.
