What actually separates a professional guide from a good hunter?Cliff and Jay Scott break down how real experience changes judgment. Calm under pressure, controlling variables, and why most missed shots are process failures. Not shooter failures. The Tricer micro-panning device we discuss at the end of the video, Use CLIFFG for 10% off: https://tricer.com/products/tricer-360From there, the discussion moves into distance, animal awareness, and the concept of the “bubble.” Cliff and Jay explain why getting closer is not always better, especially for wary species like Coues deer. Staying outside an animal's awareness buys time, reduces mistakes, and creates higher-probability shots. This is not about extreme distance. It is about efficiency and control. The back half of the episode shifts into gear and optics. They break down real use cases for image-stabilized binoculars and spotting scopes, where they help, where they don't, and why tripods are not going anywhere. The conversation stays grounded in actual field application, not marketing claims. The episode closes on perspective. Experience, restraint, and patience are skills built over decades, not seasons.00:02:00 – Guiding Experience and Perspective00:06:20 – Booking Hunts and Downside Protection00:09:20 – What Makes a Professional Guide00:17:20 – Staying Outside the Animal's Bubble00:38:10 – Managing Age Class Over Antlers00:40:55 – Harvest Limits and Real Results 00:49:40 – Tag Filling and Modern Pressure00:52:00 – Social Media and Validation00:59:20 – Judging Animals With Confidence01:04:20 – Underrated Hunts and Value01:07:40 – Image Stabilized Optics Use Cases01:14:30 – Tripods, Glassing, and Field JudgmentResources from Jay ScottInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jayscottoutdoors/?hl=enWebsite: http://jayscottoutdoorspodcast.com/Scoring App: https://hornscore.com/The Fastest Way to Get Good at Elk Hunting. Why do so many relationships fail, even if there's love?In this episode, I sit down with Mo Gawdat to unpack the logic, equations, and skills behind relationships and why love itself is actually the easy part.Mo is the bestselling author of Solve for Happy and a former Google X executive, known for applying engineering and systems thinking to life's hardest problems. In this conversation, we explore why 96.8% of relationships fail, what most people were never taught about love, and how relationships can be learned, trained, and improved, just like any other skill. This episode isn't about romantic clichés or surface-level advice. It's about understanding:* why love is logical, not irrational* how we unknowingly block love* why relationships fail when seasons change* and how to become good at relationships, without settling or second-guessing yourselfWhether you're single and looking for love, dating, or already in a long-term relationship, this conversation will change the way you think about connection. We of course also get to know Mo, from his way of thinking all the way through to his current project - EMMA.If this conversation resonates, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Improving your conflict skills isn't about finding the perfect words—it's about understanding why conflict feels so hard in the first place. When your body believes that speaking up could cost you connection, of course it freezes, softens, or stays quiet. In this episode, I talk about how our nervous systems learned early on that conflict wasn't safe, and why that doesn't mean something is wrong with you. When we slow down and get curious about our conflict response rather than judging it, that's when real change becomes possible, and you can actually get good at conflict. Here's what I cover:How shifting from “what's wrong with me?” to “why does this make sense?” helps eliminate the self-criticism spiralThe early lessons your body learned about conflict, compliance, and staying connectedHow people-pleasing and staying small function as intelligent survival strategiesThe questions I offer to help you look backward and make sense of your conflict responseHow attachment patterns shape what your body expects will happen when conflict threatens connectionRegister for my upcoming workshop HERE!Find Sara here:https://sarafisk.coachhttps://pages.sarafisk.coach/difficultconversationshttps://www.instagram.com/sarafiskcoach/https://www.facebook.com/SaraFiskCoaching/https://www.tiktok.com/@sarafiskcoachhttps://www.youtube.com/@sarafiskcoaching1333What happens inside the free Stop People Pleasing Facebook Community? In this episode, I sit down with Tim Sundles of Buffalo Bore for a wide-ranging, no-filter conversation that goes where most hunting podcasts won't.We start with elk cartridges and shot placement. Real-world experience killing elk in dark timber, at bad angles, under pressure. We dig into why larger cartridges matter, how bullet construction and penetration actually work, and why “perfect broadside shots” are often a fantasy for serious elk hunters. From there, the conversation expands into wolves, wildlife management, and what Tim has personally witnessed over decades living and hunting in Idaho and the Frank Church. We talk wolf reintroduction, elk and moose population collapse, government agencies, the Forest Service, and how public land management has drifted far from actual land stewardship.Tim and Kim Sundles run a great YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@buffaloboreammoThe Fastest Way to Get Good at Elk Hunting. Most hunters train hard. Very few train right. In this episode, Cliff sits down with Scott Johnston, co-author of Training for the Uphill Athlete and founder of Evoke Endurance, to break down why high-intensity training actually works against mountain hunters. They unpack the biggest misconception in hunting fitness: trying to train exhaustion instead of capacity. Scott explains, in plain language, why endurance is a metabolic problem, not a grit problem, and why zone-2 aerobic development is the foundation for moving better, recovering faster, and shooting more accurately under fatigue. They connect the dots between mountain hunting, special operations selection, and endurance sports, showing why aerobic capacity directly impacts decision-making, fine motor skills, recovery between stalks, and multi-day performance. Cliff ties it back to real guiding experiences with elk, goat, and sheep hunters who simply could not recover once they went anaerobic. This is not about suffering more. It's about building a system that actually works when it matters.Evoke Endurance Backcountry Hunting Program: https://evokeendurance.com/training-plans/backcountry-hunting-training-plan/TrainingPeaks Marketplace: https://www.trainingpeaks.com/training-plans/other/tp-611567/backcountry-hunting-training-plan00:00:56 The fitness problem in hunting00:02:00 Who Scott Johnston is00:07:00 Why training transfers across sports00:10:20 Fitness as the only controllable00:18:30 Aerobic vs anaerobic systems00:31:30 Aerobic deficiency explained00:37:30 Time commitment realities00:45:15 Why hill sprints fail hunters00:52:00 Recovery and multi day hunts01:11:00 Fitness impact on shooting accuracyResources from Scott and Evoke Endurance:Evoke Endurance: https://evokeendurance.com/Training For the Uphill Athlete: https://amzn.to/4qgQ1WQThe Fastest Way to Get Good at Elk Hunting. You started your business for freedom, but now you're working more than ever. You're stuck in the weeds, and the idea of handing tasks to someone else feels like letting them borrow your own child. Sound familiar? In this episode, Kevin from the Pro Sulum team unpacks the brutal psychology behind why delegation feels impossible—and exposes the three big lies keeping you trapped in your business instead of working ON it. If you're dealing with burnout, working 60+ hour weeks, or convinced that "no one can do it like you can," this episode will challenge everything you think you know about delegation. This isn't your typical "just hire a VA" advice. This is about understanding the psychological barriers, dismantling the lies, and building systems that actually set you free.

In this episode of The Science of Creativity, Keith Sawyer talks with Dr. Hansika Kapoor about the psychology of dark creativity — how the same cognitive processes that generate brilliant ideas can also lead to deception, manipulation, or harm. Kapoor explains that creativity itself is amoral: it can be directed toward good or bad outcomes depending on intent and context. Their conversation spans the neuroscience of lying, the overlap between moral and creative cognition, and the role of cultural factors in shaping creative expression. They also discuss recent findings on the "art bias," on using creativity tests in college admissions, and about the cultural practice of jugard in Indian culture. Dr. Kapoor has been a Research Author at the Department of Psychology, Monk Prayogshala, Mumbai since July 2011. Monk Prayogshala is an independent not-for-profit academic research institute, striving to improve the academic research environment in India, starting with the social sciences. She is also an Affiliate at the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut. Her work has been published in several international peer-reviewed academic journals, such as Creativity Research Journal, Thinking Skills and Creativity, and Personality and Individual Differences (here's her CV). She also regularly contribute to popular media publications, including Psychology Today, Mint, and The Wire (complete list). Key topics include: • The concept of dark creativity and its ethical implications • Creativity, deception, and moral reasoning in the brain • Cultural perspectives on creativity in India and the idea of jugard • Creativity as a predictor of educational success • The "art bias" and everyday creativity For additional information: Dr. Kapoor's web site Dr. Kapoor's Psychology Today blog Music by license from SoundStripe: "Uptown Lovers Instrumental" by AFTERNOONZ "Miss Missy" by AFTERNOONZ "What's the Big Deal" by Ryan Saranich Copyright (c) 2025 Keith Sawyer
Send us a textIn this episode, Dale and Brian unpack a simple but powerful principle for growth in business and life: “Get good, then get fast.”Many people rush to move fast — chasing results, efficiency, or success — before they've mastered the fundamentals. Others get stuck trying to be perfect, moving so slowly they never build momentum. Dale and Brian explain how the real key is in the sequence: build your skill and quality first, then develop speed without sacrificing what makes your work great. They explore how this principle applies to entrepreneurship, craftsmanship, and personal growth — and why skipping steps can lead to burnout, frustration, or poor results.Join the brothers for a practical, motivating conversation about growth, mastery, and the discipline of doing things in the right order — because lasting success isn't about how fast you start, but how strong you finish.Episode Highlights: Finding balance between getting good and getting fast.People want to be noticed. The importance of being ‘good'.How to apply this principle.Links Mentioned in Episode/Find More on ForeverLawn:www.foreverlawn.comImpact Without Limits Instagram: @impact_withoutlimitsForeverLawn's Instagram: @foreverlawnincGet Grass Without Limits HereVisit our show notes page HERESubscribe to Our Newsletter HEREDale's Instagram: @dalekarmieBrian's Instagram: @bkarmieFind Our Shorts on the ForeverLawn YouTube ChannelThis show has been produced by Adkins Media Co.

What if joy isn't a mood but a muscle? In this heartfelt, fast-moving conversation, Rachel Awtrey shares how she learned to “nod to hard things without bowing to them" from cayenne-in-the-chili nights and Lego landmines to job loss and grief. She unpacks three kinds of hard days (typical interruptions, long tough seasons, and true tragedies), why we often compare ourselves to an ideal version of ourselves, and how asking for help actually forges your strongest friendships. Along the way, we talk simple practices that change the temperature of your home: taking more meals outside and counting those hours toward the 1000 Hours Outside Challenge, short walks, grounding, ice-rolling for a quick nervous-system reset, and the underrated experience of adult play. If your life is technically “likable” but doesn't feel that way right now, this episode is your permission slip to make some small changes. Sometimes the only way to win is by finding the courage to lose. This week, Anne and Frances want you to “dare to be bad” in order to free up capacity to excel at more important things. They share insight on the power of strategic “no”s, the value of ruthless prioritization, and how Steve Jobs and Apple delivered breakthrough innovation by strategically underperforming. Frances explains why you can't always trust your own instincts, and Anne reflects on the lessons she learned in her early days of parenting. What problems are you dealing with at work?
