What if we recognised that every single thing we do - and everything we avoid doing - is quietly shaping us into the kind of person we're becoming? A conversation about discovering that we're already practising something all the time, whether we realise it or not, and that our choices about where to place our attention might be more consequential than we imagine. What would it mean to get good at the things that truly matter to us, or to surprise and widen ourselves by practicing new things that are outside of our familiar, comfortable range? This week's conversation is hosted, as always, by Lizzie Winn and Justin Wise of Thirdspace. Episode Overview 00:00 Welcome and Introduction to Turning Towards Life 02:21 The Importance of Time and Choices 05:37 Practicing What Matters: Insights from Chloe Caldwell 10:08 The Impact of Our Practices on Our Lives 15:07 Awareness of Time and Intentions 19:09 The Role of Social Media in Shaping Us 24:28 Exploring New Practices and Joyful Experimentation 32:32 The Value of External Perspectives on Our Practices 38:01 Conclusion and Reflection on Our Practices Here's our source for this week: You Get Good at What You Do My dad passed away last December, and he was in the top three closest people to me over my life. He used to have a phrase he used with his guitar students: “You get good at what you do. If you practice guitar, you get really good at guitar. If you don't practice, you get really good at not practicing.” I love this phrase because you can apply it to every single thing in life, in ways both literal and abstract. If you write, you get good at writing If you look at Instagram, you get good at looking at Instagram. If you walk, you get good at walking. If you swim, you get good at swimming. If you write, you get good at writing. If you don't write, you get really good at not writing. If you look at Instagram, you get REALLY good at looking at Instagram. I think my dad's lesson seeped into my brain from hearing him say it so much. It wasn't advice as much as a notion. Now I pass it along to my students and think about it once a day. It seems simple and like something we all know, logically, but the way it is phrased really drives it home. When he died, one of his guitar students wrote, “Rob was good at love and music. It's what he did.” Chloé Caldwell via Cheryl Strayed's Substack Photo by Majkl Velner on Unsplash ---- Join Us Live in 2025 Turning Towards Life Live Season 1, from 10 September 2025 Our Turning Towards Life live programme of community, learning and reflection runs in six month seasons from September. Sanjay Singh is a thoughtful strategist, seasoned executive, and business philosopher whose journey to leading the iconic Cleveland brand Mace Security—and his reflections on it—are remarkable.Sanjay's story weaves together a deep appreciation for manufacturing and a career shaped by curiosity, resilience, and a knack for doing hard things—ultimately culminating in a personal philosophy grounded in introspection and presence. From navigating activist shareholders during a turnaround at Mace to developing frameworks around fear, ego, inquiry, and deep intuition, Sanjay offers a unique lens into what it means to lead with vulnerability and intention. This conversation leans more philosophical than most Lay of The Land episodes—a reflection of Sanjay's clarity of thought, deep presence, and his insights into consciousness and awareness. His perspective on leadership elevates the discussion far beyond the business realm, offering thoughtful takeaways for both work and life.Sanjay also serves on the boards of MAGNET—whose story was shared by Ethan Karp in Episode 139—and The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes. He's married to Erin Singh, CEO of Options Naturopathic, who joined us on Episode 147 to share her own journey.Sanjay is a true student of the world, of people, and of business. What do you need to know about the 2025 real estate market before you buy your first (or next) investment property? Dave Meyer, host of the BiggerPockets Real Estate Podcast and one of the industry's most respected analysts, will tell you everything a rookie real estate investor needs to know when buying in 2025. We're talking about the best markets, predictions, and one type of property that could be a phenomenal buy this year. Dave believes now is a great time to invest and is backing it up by increasing his investments in 2025. But, he says you need to find the “upside” in your market or your strategy to make more money this year. What does he mean? Dave spells out a few key ways to find often overlooked “upside” potential so you can build wealth even with high home prices and interest rates. Which markets does Dave believe have the most growth potential this year? He's laying out his top investing areas and the property types that could see the most demand. Plus, why is it cheaper (and arguably better) to buy a new home in 2025 instead of waiting for homeowners to sell? If you're ready to invest in real estate, use Dave's roadmap to invest better than the rest this year.  In This Episode We Cover: The 2025 state of real estate investing and why Dave sees plenty of “upside” to come Why Dave is NOT focusing on “cash flow” when buying his real estate deals Top real estate markets of 2025 and the cities/areas with the most demand  A “big shift” that is pushing more and more renters to certain parts of the city  Free data you can use right now to see which markets will grow or slow in 2025  Why buying a new build could be a much better investment than buying existing homes And So Much More! Today, we're releasing our 2025 housing market predictions, and let's just say we're feeling optimistic about the future. Many of you may have been waiting for a housing crash or correction. But where is it? In short, it never happened. Home prices kept climbing, rent prices finally stabilized, and mortgage rates stayed at eye-watering highs. What's coming next for the 2025 housing market? Are things about to get better (or worse) for homebuyers and real estate investors? This is when Dave takes out his crystal ball (federal housing data and spreadsheets) to predict what's to come in the new year. He's giving his full forecast on three crucial topics, home prices, mortgage rates, and rent growth, and explaining his predictions and reasoning behind them. If Dave is correct, it may be a good year for real estate investing. Don't believe us? Stick around! Coming up after this episode, Dave is piggybacking off of these predictions to show you why real estate could be the single greatest investment in the coming years. If you're on the fence about buying a home or investing for the first time, this data-driven episode could get you out of analysis paralysis! In This Episode We Cover: Why 2025 is already shaping up to be an excellent year for real estate investors and homeowners Dave's 2025 mortgage rate range and whether we'll see some interest rate relief The reason why home prices could still grow even with so many potential homebuyers sitting on the sidelines Are foreclosures and mortgage delinquencies a threat to the housing market? Why 2026 could be the year everything changes for rent prices (and what to expect in 2025) And So Much More! Links from the Show Join BiggerPockets for FREE Let Us Know What You Thought of the Show!
