Microsoft announced on Friday that Bill Gates is leaving the board, effective Friday. Gates is also stepping down from his position on the board of Berkshire Hathaway. Apple announced on Friday that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June will be held online because of the coronavirus pandemic. Along with washing your hands and face multiple times a day, you should also wash that extension of your hand and breeding ground for germs — your phone. Tests done by scientists show that the virus can live for two to three days on plastic and stainless steel. As schools suspend classes, businesses close and companies ask their employees to work from home during the spread of the novel coronavirus, the pressure on communications networks will rise. Plague Inc. maker Ndemic Creations says the game has been removed from sale on the iOS App Store in China because the relevant authorities say it “includes content that is illegal in China as determined by the Cyberspace Administration of China.” YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki has repeatedly said that YouTube is trying to be more transparent with creators about changes that will affect their day-to-day lives. The next evolution in that plan is appointing the company's first ever “head creator liaison” to help keep the peace. Last October, Microsoft gave the public a little taste of its dual-screened Surface Duo. The phone is due to be officially unveiled during this October's Surface event and hit the market during the 2020 holiday shopping season. But we could get a much earlier launch of the Surface Duo according to Windows Central. Citing sources said to be familiar with the matter, the software and hardware are finished and that could allow Microsoft to unveil and release the Duo well ahead of schedule. So, the PS5 is on its way, and it's going head-to-head with the equally next-gen Xbox Series X console. And while it's tempting to look at the hefty PS4 sales figures as a sign that Sony's dominance will continue, there is one area that the Xbox One clearly overtook, and that's backward compatibility. Not long after Valentine's Day ends, a massive asteroid estimated to be between 1,443 feet and 3,248 feet long will pass by Earth around 6:05 a.m. ET on Saturday. Based on the size range, it could be anywhere between the size of a suspension bridge to taller than a skyscraper. On Feb. 14, 1990, NASA's Voyager 1 probe snapped a photo of Earth from 3.7 billion miles (6 billion kilometers) away. The image shows our home planet as it truly is — a tiny, lonely outpost of life in an incomprehensibly vast cosmos — and became iconic as a result. At its Microsoft 365 Developer Day, the company detailed Windows 10X, it's next-generation “expression” of Windows 10 which the company will release later this year. And the most remarkable aspect: Microsoft states that Windows 10X updates will take less than 90 seconds to complete. The world's biggest phone show, Mobile World Congress, is no longer taking place this year. After coronavirus threatened to throw MWC into chaos, the GSM Association (GSMA), which organizes the show, has now canceled it. Twitter reportedly planning to cut hundreds of jobs. Twitter is planning to cut hundreds of jobs, with an announcement possibly coming as soon as this week ahead of its third-quarter financial results, Bloomberg reported Monday. Apple Replaces Support Profiles. Apple recently removed Support Profiles from its website, redirecting the page to a new "Get Support" tool that similarly enables customers to check their technical support and service coverage status for iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other Apple products they own. There is, however, one notable difference. iOS 10.1 is now available with Portrait mode for iPhone 7 Plus. Apple just released iOS 10.1, the first major update to the iPhone and iPad's mobile operating system since iOS 10 launched in September.

There's also an Apple Watch Series 1, exactly like the iPhone smartwatch we reviewed below, but with the faster processor of the Apple Watch 2. Here's our updated take on the first Apple Watch, now with new software. The military is concerned that Chinese computer products could pose a cyber security threat. The Pentagon's Joint Staff recently warned against using equipment made by China's Lenovo computer manufacturer amid concerns about cyber spying against Pentagon networks, according to defense officials. New Apple 13-inch, 15-inch MacBooks coming Thursday. With just a few days left before Apple's next product event, the rumors are swirling faster every day, but a new one related to the MacBook is particularly interesting.

Deleting Apple’s pre-installed apps in iOS 10 doesn’t actually ‘delete’ them One of the most talked about features in Apple’s upcoming iOS 10 is the ability to delete many of the apps that come pre-loaded on your iPhone or iPad. But it turns out that deleting the apps doesn’t actually delete them. The Apple TV finally has a chance to be a gaming platform Immersive games require a serious controller and the Apple TV Siri Remote is not a serious controller. Yet until recently Apple required game developers to fully support the Siri Remote for all games, which is likely one of the reasons developers haven’t fully embraced the platform.
Net Neutrality upheld by appeals court. An appeals court in Washington DC has upheld the FCC's Open Internet Order, affirming that Net Neutrality can live to fight another day. While the appellate judges have had to rule in favor of telecoms companies in previous cases, the FCC's law is now watertight and is acting within its powers. The decision is likely to stick in the craw of many networks, including AT&T and Verizon, which fought bitterly against provisions to maintain a free and fair market online. Unfortunately, Net Neutrality still has plenty of critics in high places, and several Republican politicians have attempted to gut the FCC in the hope of getting their own way. Apple kills the Game Center app, but the service will continue. With the introduction of iOS 10, Apple will finally allow users to delete the pre-installed apps – like Compass, Stocks, Tips, Maps, Watch, and more – from their smartphones and tablets. But there’s one app that you won’t need to remove: Game Center. Apple confirms that Game Center will continue as a service, but it will no longer be available as a standalone application on their devices. Batman is coming to PlayStation headset this October. The caped crusader is getting his VR on. Or is it the Joker? Facebook Messenger now lets Android users send text messages. Tired of switching back and forth between Facebook Messenger and SMS on your Android? On Tuesday, Facebook announced that the Messenger app now supports SMS messaging. That means Android users can set the app as their default texting client.
Samsung is adding new obtrusive ads to your old smart TV. If you're Samsung and you want to wring additional cash out of your television business, what do you do? Add annoying advertisements to TVs that people already have in their homes, apparently. The Wall Street Journal reports that Samsung is readying the European expansion of an initiative it started in the United States last June: adding interactive advertisements to the menu bars of its high-end smart TVs. The impact isn't going to be limited just to customers buying new Samsung televisions, either, as the company reportedly plans to use software updates to retroactively bring the ads to older models that people already have in their homes. Fraud Alert: Scammers Get Victims to Pay With iTunes Gift Cards. Everyone likes gift cards — even scammers. A gift card is like cash — a quick, convenient and untraceable way for con artists to get money. And even if the victim realizes they've been scammed, there's typically no way to reverse the transaction. Right now, the popular iTunes gift card is the payment method of choice for many swindlers. Tinder for insurance lets you insure your electronics by swiping right An American startup is hoping to overhaul the stuffy insurance industry with a couple of swipes. On Monday, Trov launched its latest product in Australia: On-demand insurance for single items through its mobile app. Founded in 2012, the company's free iOS and Android app previously allowed people to create a digital inventory of their possessions, but it's now adding an extra level of service. The insurance offering is currently iOS-only. PayPal drives another nail into the Windows Phone and BlackBerry coffins. In February, PayPal launched a new version of its mobile app, 6.0, and it wants iPhone and Android users to upgrade to it until the end of June. Windows Phone, BlackBerry and Amazon Fire users, however, are getting a different message: Paypal is discontinuing the app on these platforms on June 30.
